In the most comically overblown denouncement of a campaign flush with repudiations, McCain called the N.C. GOP “out of touch with reality and the Party,” “dead wrong,” and suggested the ad introduced issues of “race” that were inappropriate, which it did not.
For his crusade, he earned himself no less than two and a half hours of bashing on Friday’s “Rush Limbaugh Show,” where the conservative host mocked the senator for teaching us all that being of independent mind is something to be prized above all else, except for when being a Maverick means ignoring the Maverick himself. “We’re all Independents now, Senator,” Limbaugh hooted during each call from an angry North Carolina Republican.
By Saturday morning, the McCain news e-mail list, which had previously delivered to my inbox no fewer than 50 Jeremiah Wright stories since the story broke, sent me the New York Times’ editorial that validated McCain’s new notion that mentioning Wright had become “shameful, ugly, race-baiting, and manipulative.” I half-expected the next news story to inform me that McCain had joined the call of Al Sharpton to “shut down” New York City in light of the Sean Bell verdict, so deep into the weeds of liberal racial demagoguery had he creeped. In classic style, McCain’s sense of “right” was the only sense of “right” acceptable in this incident, and it happened to be decidedly, err, left.
Forget the McCain nose plugs. We need McCain paddles.
Because I guarantee you, this is not going to be the last time McCain runs to the left with his knee-jerk denunciations of conservatives as racists based on evidence he doesn’t even bother to look at.

I said it once before, he really didn’t need to say anything at all. I was told that this was a classy thing for McCain to do, you know, to stay above the fray. Looks like he ’stepped in it’ on this one.

It’s really sad that so many people who voted for McCain in the early primaries instead of the more conservative candidates. When the election came to my state, McCain has already wrapped up the nomination. My vote was meaningless, and my candidate later dropped out. As much as he makes me angry, I still want him in the oval office, not Obama.
That’s as far as I will go with the McCain bashing today. When Reagan gave us the 11th commandment, some took it more to heart than others.
The only one dumber than McCain is Obama. McCain has already started his run to the middle. He’s going to find out the hard way, during the general election run, that the Dem candidate won’t be so “above the fray”. At the very least, he should keep his mouth shut about North Carolina. The man must be senile!

I had a Maverick once. It was hard to start, blew out a lot of smoke and veered left frequently.
You’d think that when one democrat candidate is dodging imaginary bullets on a tarmac and another has a nutjob preacher with open-mouth-insert-footitis, that republicans would have a candidate that could rise above the fray. Not a chance. It’s all different shades of pale.
It’s getting that a independant party could back a Potted Plant into a run-off.
The only thing that McCain could do to top this would be to pick a dhimmicrat as his running mate.

I’ve noted many here who always comment that McCain is better than this or that. They also say that those of us who “hold our nose” or refuse to vote for him are failing this country. I disagree. The best I can do for my country, besides what I have already done, is never give up my values, ethics and beliefs for a temporary victory that turns Conservatism back to the Stone Age. I won’t do it.
So, you’re available to run a write-in campaign? I think we can get the blessing of Zombie Reagan; your co-blogger has an in with him.
Maybe we should write in Abraham Lincoln. How about that? Should we do that?

I was so outraged Friday or Saturday with both his response to NC’s ad, and his comments in N’Orleans blasting the “administration”, i.e. Bush, rather than School Bus Nagin, and their inept former governor, I fired a reply in no uncertain terms that they were not getting a dadgum dime from this household as long as he keeps up like this! He moderated and tempered his response over the weekend, so I’m sure he heard from more folks than lil ol’ me!

I do not believe that McCain meant any sort of harm. Making this a battle over “race”, and involving the Republican Party in the fray will only hurt the Republican Party in November. The Democrats are doing more than enough harm to themselves without our help.
Reverend Wright is a non-issue in this election cycle and McCain was right to tell the NC GOP to let that sleeping dog lie. It is merely a cheap-shot to equate Obama to others’ radical ideas. Obama is capable of doing that all on his own as he has capably proven time and again.
That being said, Reverend Wright will marginalize himself soon enough.
McCain is doing “big picture” campaigning at the moment. Like it or not, this is the sort of behavior which could land him in the White House. There’s just no need for him, or the Republican Party, to come out with guns blazing at this moment in time. There will be plenty of time later to fire of some well-placed howitzers at the USS Obama!
I’m of like mind, Dave. I’ve been wavering, sort of like McCain on how many people he can please and still remain on his “bipartisan fence.” He really needs to focus on the national election, butt out of state matters that do not concern him, and keep his trap shut.

Uuuggghhh, I don’t want to vote for this clown, I really don’t. However, I fear what will happen if either of the two socialist dims get in. Hubby tells me hold my nose and pull the lever for him as he doesn’t want to be the last man out of Iraq or the last one killed because as evidenced by B. Hussein Obama’s statement last Sunday that he will “listen” to the good General, it’s obvious he and his “advisors”-perhaps one Bill Ayers, already have their plans for Iraq and nothing Petraeus says will change his mind. So, it is with a heavy heart that I will have to vote for this clown (the circus must be short a lot of performers) just because he has the “malkins” to finish the job.
Before he left this last time, my cousin came to visit us with his family. He was one of the last men out of Viet Nam and he and my husband went on the porch and discussed his experience. I don’t know, I guess I just have to do it.
I’ll vote for McCain, because if Obummer and what’s her name goes in, this Country will be doomed for the next thirty years. People might feel they’re preserving their principles,by not voting,but what good are principles with a Democrat President and congress? I’ve been going back and forth about whether to vote for McCain or not. My husband and I discuss this frequently. I am inclined not to. I just can’t put my seal of approval on him. We survived eight long years of Bill Clinton and I truly believe we can survive four or eight years of another lib in the WH. Hopefully, we’ll get a Republican Congress out of it, maybe with some real conservatives, which would be a real change! The Supreme Court does make me nervous in this scenario, but am I the only one out here who doesn’t trust McCain to put a real conservative on the court anyway? He wouldn’t want his precious McCain/Feingold overturned, now would he?

Swallow the bitter pill. We put ourselves in this position…we have only ourselves to thank. We couldn’t unify, we couldn’t pick a solid candidate, and we waited for the second coming of Reagan. And it didn’t happen. Look, McCain is a moderate hack, just like the liberal and “conservative” hacks littered throughout our congress. And no matter what, we’re in the rebuilding process. For now, since we’re in a very critical war, I’ll be damned if I don’t vote for John McCain. We have two options- look forward to an election in 2016 where we have 8 years to plan and rebuild when minimal damage is done, or look forward to one in 2012 where socialist programs and a watered-down military kills our economic and political power throughout the world. It’s easier to replace a broken window than rebuild a burnt-down house.
The NC GOP episode is just another episode of John McCain’s arrogant attack on conservatives and Christian conservatives in particular. I am tired of being called a racist and told to “get over it” by a man who claims to be the leader of the GOP.

As many have said, why should anyone just settle for someone they believe is bad for the R party and bad for the US - just because the alternatives are bad doesn’t mean we have to vote for McCain - which is exactly what his people are banking on (not him though, his head is too far up his behind). In the long run, which is really more important if you could see beyond your own little world, it may even be doing the Republican party a favor by pushing it back towards it’s conservative base and a true representative if we have to take 4 years of a democrat POTUS, as long as we do our best to get Republicans in at local level and Congress come November, which is what I have stated I will endeavor to do, but you somehow chose to ignore that part..

I guess my one other observation is that I find it interesting that many here ask us to support McCain, that is, to compromise our value system and political beliefs for the good of the Party. My position is simply this — one is to vote for JSM this year to put the best possible person into the WH for the next 4 years. I’m not asking for anyone to “compromise” anything, just to acknowledge that NOT voting for him, by DEFAULT, works towards putting someone far, far worse into the WH for at least the next 4 years.
I have a compromise for mcamnesty. Afterall, isn’t he the king of compromisers, or is that only reserved for liberal democrats such a kennedy. I will vote for and support “you” in your bid for the presidency, if “you” will denounce amnesty for illegal aliens of ANY sort and adopt a policy of immigration enforcement and attrition. Deal?

We haven’t had a conservative in the White House since the morning of January 20, 1987. Election after election, we get to choose this liberal Repubilcan over that liberal Republican, and it’s gotten to the point where the worst candidate the party has to offer gets the nod.
At some point you have to make a decision along the lines of whether the party is really interested in representing your interests. It’s the same reason Ronald Reagan left the Democrat Party, and he was right to do so. Should the Republicans continue to ignore us, especially given the incredibly obvious opportunity to give America real leadership against these two extremists, then it’s time to look elsewhere.
The party chose the candidate most like the opposition. That’s not getting my vote. I’ll vote write-in or see what the Libertarians have to offer.
