Wait a minute: Bush just said “jihadist”

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 29, 2008 11:04 AM

The President is holding a news conference in the Rose Garden. Responding to questioning from Martha Raddatz about Iraq and Afghanistan, he talked about taking the fight to “jihadists.”

Red alert! Red alert! Summon the State Department language police!

He used one of the Forbidden Words:

Federal agencies, including the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the National Counter Terrorism Center, are telling their people not to describe Islamic extremists as “jihadists” or “mujahedeen,” according to documents obtained by The Associated Press. Lingo like “Islamo-fascism” is out, too.

The reason: Such words may actually boost support for radicals among Arab and Muslim audiences by giving them a veneer of religious credibility or by causing offense to moderates.

Can’t be “causing offense to moderates” now, can we? Guess Bush didn’t get his own feckless State Department’s memo.

What about the Iraqi interpreter who was shot and who thought he was going die, when he told a US commander that he wanted his heart to be buried in America? Or howzabout:

“Thank you, America.” That message was delivered Thursday to the American people from the Iraqi people, by way of Iraq’s interim Prime Minister Awad Allawi.

Not convinced yet? How about this one:

We all thank America for everything and for giving us a chance at freedom. Your soldiers are very brave. Their families are sacrificing a lot for us too and we are thankful.”

You are attempting to paint a narrative that quite frankly you “He shouldn’t say it because it isn’t true.”

Math Man, yet another astounding comment from somebody with “boots” on the ground I see. Yeah, those “patriots” are sure doing wonders for Iraq, terrorizing innocent Iraqis who just want to live in peace and get on with life. Yep, the Mahdi Army wouldn’t possibly be funded by Iran and doing its best to destabilize things for Iraq, now would it? Or how ’bout those “patriotic” criminal elements breaking away from said Mahid Army, trying to trump it’s more pure, terrorist brethern by profiting off of crime, kidnapping, intimidating, and other “patriotic” criminal activities.

My, somebody has been consulting his magic 8 ball and I don’t think it’s Gen. Petraeus.

Your knowledge of who exactly is a patriot and who’s a terrorist is sad and pathetic. Wake up and smell the putrid remnants of Western civilization, will ya? How could you be so blind and ignorant sir/madam? Have you not ascertained that most of the violence against our solders is from Iranian and Saudi jihadists? “Patriots” indeed! They are Islamic jihadists that would love to kill you and your family in your bed and would not blink an eye in doing so! You need to get a clue and determine for yourself what is happening with Islam and the jihadists that would kill us all if they could. Perhaps when they detonate a nuclear bomb on one of our cities you can call them “patriots” and continue to admire them.

I normally don’t respond to your like but you managed to get me really annoyed. Okay, I’m sorry… those aren’t patriots. They terrorize people who disagree with them. They make people afraid. What about the boy who was set on fire because his father was a member of the Iraqi Security Force? This boy didn’t do ANYTHING but had connections to the Iraqi Security Force indirectly. How can you justify that as a patriotic act?

Speaking as someone who is actually a soldier and hear almost daily straight from the horse’s mouth of people who been down range, they say what it is like is that they clean up the area then the terrorists come down and mess it up again. The groups do it to make people afraid to change. They terrorize so they can control.

Additionally, I read in a newspaper about a man in Iraq who lost his best friend and son to the Basara attack and it was due to American bullets and what he said was, “I have nothing against Americans. It is because of them I can walk down the streets and feel safe. I blame the militias for what happened.” Yeah, the media would occasionally get quotes from disgruntled Iraqis but you’d get that anywhere. I’m sure if you asked the Germans after WWII how they felt about the occupation, you’d get the same thing even though the allies worked hard to rebuild Germany.

Also you simplified the matter. There are many conflicts going on in Iraq. Yes, you have the reminients of Saddam’s regime who want to gain power again but MOST of the deaths occur because of fighting between Shiites and Sunnis. The foreign fighters you talk about are contributing to that holy war between the two factions. Some, who are Al-Qaeda connected, are attacking the US not for just the occupation but also just because of the simple fact that they are American.

If we weren’t in Iraq, those same groups would filter into Europe or America and cause people harm JUST for being an American or European. I don’t understand why people don’t get that!

other items on an “as availible” basis.

I am not suprised abt State, I’ve often wondered if we could simply close it, moving the 3 or 4 employees who actually perform a valid function to other departments.

A large part of State’s huge uptick in out-of-control-Anti-US behavior needs to be attributed to the Chief Exec., since human nature is such that bad behavior increases until reined-in. But word-banning? I find no surprise from an admin. where a Pres. can — contrary to his oath — sign a law that bites a big chunk from Freedom of Political Speech.

GWB loves US so much that he gave his political life to keep us safer and more secure.

Reminds me of something I read in a book, “He gave his only begotten son…”

I don’t think Bush is Jesus. I don’t think he sacrificed his political future for the sake of his country.

No matter what his personal political career was ending in 2008. Nothing he does not can change that. Even presidents who leave office very popular (Clinton) cannot be re-elected.

I think Bush started the Iraq war to be re-elected in 2004. In 2003, he figured (correctly) that the war would still be popular in 2004 and he could run on the protect American line. He sacrificed the lives of 4000 American men and women to keep himself in office 4 more years.

He also sacrificed the future of the Republican party and the conservative movement. They both are discredited by his awful performance.

Remember, that image of Bush strutting around on the deck of an aircraft carrier (like a peacock) was a political stunt. He didn’t need to wear a flight suit.

The leader of Iraq murdered hundreds of thousands more, we had citizens beheaded on video, people killed in Spain… and you dare to say it was for an election. As God is my witness, may we never meet on a street. For the others here, I apologize, but to you, lgm…. never.

    I disagree.

The reasons for the war in Iraq are many fold, and I agree with all of them, but chief among them is the fact that had there not been a military response against a known enemy of the U.S. for the attacks of 9/11, the outcry from the American people would have been deafening.

Furthermore, the Republican Party would have been excoriated for their inaction, and rightly so, dooming us to political defeat for the next century and garnering us the label of the “party of cowards,” a.k.a., the Democrat Party (cheap shot but I couldn’t resist).

This of course assumes he isn’t indicted for war crimes.

He shouldn’t say it because it isn’t true. The people shooting at us in Iraq are not making holy war against infidels, they are trying to get a foreign occupying army the heck out of their country — patriots.

Naturally, LGM would call terrorists patriots. Because if you didn’t, you might be an Islamophobe.

Have you joined al-quedia yet? Because they are in Iraq and they are making this a holy war. That’s their motto. It’s NEVER been Iraqi freedom.

If it is, please explain to why they are willing to kill innocent Iraqis in the HOPE (usually they fail) of trying to kill USA forces?

The number of foreign fighters in Iraq is estimated to be in the hundreds, and almost all in Sunni areas. Those are not the most violent places at the moment.

    Ever heard of al Sadr?

Well everyone, I guess LGM has been brainwashed by 7th-Century men who stand against everything he/she fights for everyday here on Mrs. Malkin’s blog.

We will defeat the JIHADISTS no matter how many liberals join the ranks of osama!

So let’s keep on evangelizing Muslims in Africa and the Middle East, let’s keep the noose tight around the Taliban, and let’s show liberals how to take care of an enemy!

So, US President/Commander-in-chief is busy re-paying his wahhabBi masters in Riyadh for making him rich. Ofcourse, nothing less than Islamization of US is acceptable to the wahhabbis. and given time, Bush will sell US out to his masters. Right now, he is busy protecting his masters from those rogue terrorists, with US blood and money.
And Americans watch instead of impeaching a traitor. Good for Bush and his wahhabbi family in Riyadh.

There is a difference between being p.c. and using accurate language. A Jihad is usually used in Muslim circles as a personal spiritual war. The Hymn “Onward Christian Solder” is not a war cry. To use the word incorrectly would only provoke rational people like you if the tables were turned. It is like calling a Christian a cannibal because of transfiguration. Some will hate us for no reason. Most just want to live their lives in peace like anyone else. Hate and ignorance have blinded people on both sides.
