Wait a minute: Bush just said “jihadist”
The President is holding a news conference in the Rose Garden. Responding to questioning from Martha Raddatz about Iraq and Afghanistan, he talked about taking the fight to “jihadists.”
Red alert! Red alert! Summon the State Department language police!
He used one of the Forbidden Words:
Federal agencies, including the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the National Counter Terrorism Center, are telling their people not to describe Islamic extremists as “jihadists” or “mujahedeen,” according to documents obtained by The Associated Press. Lingo like “Islamo-fascism” is out, too.
The reason: Such words may actually boost support for radicals among Arab and Muslim audiences by giving them a veneer of religious credibility or by causing offense to moderates.
Can’t be “causing offense to moderates” now, can we? Guess Bush didn’t get his own feckless State Department’s memo.

Didn’t I just read about them via Canada?
It’s time we set up our own - well funded - advocacy group.
Oh-wait-we don’t have Saudi oil $$$.
They CAIR-(and et.al) have our $$$
This media we have is the worst. Absolutely the worst. Pathetic, moronic assholes. They do not listen to reason, they only ‘feel’. I am so tired of liberalism…..sheeesh!
why is it we’re the only ones who have to tailor our language?
meanwhile, ‘death to America’ doesn’t really mean death to America…it’s just a metaphor.
It was easier than saying “prayer-rug totin’ bomb tossin’ nutjobs”.
“jihadists”
Oh, and don’t forget: “illegal aliens”
There, come sue me now.
If you’re a “moderate” Muslim, by the very definition of the word, you’re supposed to be opposed to violence perpetuated in the name of Islam, right?
So how could you be offended by calling something you oppose what it really is? I smell a stinky, stinky scapegoat…
Jihadists, islamists, extremists, terrorists, evildoers, scum, lowdown dirty rotten scoundrels, etc… Need I go on?

YES YOU MUST. My personal favorites:
Psychopaths, homicidal maniacs, Islamic sociopaths and murderers, vicious thugs, Allah-twisted miscreants…
“There appears to be a whole lot of Jihadization going on.”
Don’t leave out ignorant losers.
Don’t forget: “Followers of Pedophile that Married his 9-year-old Cousin.’
I wish they’d find that creep who murdered his two daughters…
How about Allah or Mohamed or Prophet…as these are routinely used by terrorists while killing innocents. Are these banned too?
He shouldn’t say it because it isn’t true. The people shooting at us in Iraq are not making holy war against infidels, they are trying to get a foreign occupying army the heck out of their country — patriots.
The number of foreign fighters in Iraq is estimated to be in the hundreds, and almost all in Sunni areas. Those are not the most violent places at the moment.
ooohhhkaaaay — we pause for a moment from bashing JSM …
to bash GWB …
/sigh
//W has used jihadist since about, um, ‘04 …

hey, it’s m. moore!
/do you realize just how stupid you sound?
We are going to politically correct ourselves into an early grave!
The State Department has not been on the side of the United States for some time now. No Secretary has been able to get it under control due to the fact that you cannot fire entrenched bureaucrats that make up their own policy. For that matter, look how elements of the CIA have been running against this president since he took office.
Their direction to not call a murderer a murderer is absolutely unconscionable! Another example of a government out of control and out of touch with the people that it is supposed to protect! What a statement it makes on Condi Rice….
lgm,
If you can pull your head out from your nether region for a minute…
Us?
What about the Iraqi interpreter who was shot and who thought he was going die, when he told a US commander that he wanted his heart to be buried in America? Or howzabout:
Not convinced yet? How about this one:
You are attempting to paint a narrative that quite frankly you “
Heshouldn’t say it because it isn’t true.”Really? And you’ve just touched down from your trip from Iraq I take it?
Math Man, yet another astounding comment from somebody with “boots” on the ground I see. Yeah, those “patriots” are sure doing wonders for Iraq, terrorizing innocent Iraqis who just want to live in peace and get on with life. Yep, the Mahdi Army wouldn’t possibly be funded by Iran and doing its best to destabilize things for Iraq, now would it? Or how ’bout those “patriotic” criminal elements breaking away from said Mahid Army, trying to trump it’s more pure, terrorist brethern by profiting off of crime, kidnapping, intimidating, and other “patriotic” criminal activities.
My, somebody has been consulting his magic 8 ball and I don’t think it’s Gen. Petraeus.
Your knowledge of who exactly is a patriot and who’s a terrorist is sad and pathetic. Wake up and smell the putrid remnants of Western civilization, will ya? Oh, that’s right, you’re just another useless, armchair quarterback naysayer with a wannabe military philosopher’s cap on his furrowed forehead.
lgm - “The people shooting at us in Iraq are not making holy war against infidels, they are trying to get a foreign occupying army the heck out of their country — patriots.”
How could you be so blind and ignorant sir/madam? Have you not ascertained that most of the violence against our solders is from Iranian and Saudi jihadists? “Patriots” indeed! They are Islamic jihadists that would love to kill you and your family in your bed and would not blink an eye in doing so! You need to get a clue and determine for yourself what is happening with Islam and the jihadists that would kill us all if they could. Perhaps when they detonate a nuclear bomb on one of our cities you can call them “patriots” and continue to admire them.
Maybe it is time the State Department learns to just suck it up too. If a liar does not like being called a liar, all they need do is quit lying. Barring that, they should expect to be called for what they are. Seems to me that the same thing holds true here.
30 pcs of silver #7 and Craig #8 nice list of names for the enemies of Western Civilization! Pay no attention to the Seagull.
LOL, I get extra backlash for calling them illegal invaders.
JonR (#20)
I haven’t ascertained it and it isn’t true. Check Juan Cole for informed updates on Iraq.
The number of foreign fighters is small. Until the “Anbar Awakening”, most people fighting us were Sunnis (who have Iran more than we do).
When the jihadists flew planes into office buildings full of civilian workers, they weren’t invaders - they were “freedom fighters” and we Americans got what we deserved.
/sarcasm
What color is the sky in your world, lgm?

Juan Cole? Oh you mean the leftist tool that couldn’t even tolerate Bahai and takes his view of the world through”anti- America because it’s a colonial power” glasses. Nice reference……. couldn’t have shone a light on your Soros guided thought process better.
Very funny. Moderate muslim makes me laugh all most as much as muslim sensibilities.
It’s strange that President Bush is labeled a cowboy, for saying what he thinks and doing what he says, when “maverick” is much more applicable and appropriate. As far as the “jihadist” comment is concerned, that’s a o.k. with me - call’em like ya’ see’em.
Okay Tre, normally I am not a vengeful, sick or twisted person. However, I do take exception to men who beat (defenseless) women and children. I would say killing two innocent (even if only relatively speaking) teenage daughters would qualify as an unusually heinous crime meriting the use of the perpetrator to serve as an example.
Wrap him in bacon, stick a spit up his nether regions and slow roast him in the bacon like those bacon dogs the other day.
And people wonder why I am not a cop or a lawyer?
Sorry if I spoiled anyone’s lunch.

Unlike you, I don’t have any sophisticated knowledge of…well, anything, but I do know a coward when I see one. I cannot fathom why you come here and make such stunningly stupid statements but I suspect it is because you crave the the attention, albeit negative. Perhaps it is because you are an unfortunate looking little girl and can’t stay inside the lines in your Hannah Montana coloring book. Whatever the reason, you bring ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of any value to any of the conversations I have read on this blog in recent history. I will leave you with this bit of advice, brazenly lifted from Monty Python. Shut your gob you bloody twit. Have a day, good bad or otherwise. I don’t care.
LGM-
I normally don’t respond to your like but you managed to get me really annoyed. Okay, I’m sorry… those aren’t patriots. They terrorize people who disagree with them. They make people afraid. What about the boy who was set on fire because his father was a member of the Iraqi Security Force? This boy didn’t do ANYTHING but had connections to the Iraqi Security Force indirectly. How can you justify that as a patriotic act?
Speaking as someone who is actually a soldier and hear almost daily straight from the horse’s mouth of people who been down range, they say what it is like is that they clean up the area then the terrorists come down and mess it up again. The groups do it to make people afraid to change. They terrorize so they can control.
Additionally, I read in a newspaper about a man in Iraq who lost his best friend and son to the Basara attack and it was due to American bullets and what he said was, “I have nothing against Americans. It is because of them I can walk down the streets and feel safe. I blame the militias for what happened.” Yeah, the media would occasionally get quotes from disgruntled Iraqis but you’d get that anywhere. I’m sure if you asked the Germans after WWII how they felt about the occupation, you’d get the same thing even though the allies worked hard to rebuild Germany.
Also you simplified the matter. There are many conflicts going on in Iraq. Yes, you have the reminients of Saddam’s regime who want to gain power again but MOST of the deaths occur because of fighting between Shiites and Sunnis. The foreign fighters you talk about are contributing to that holy war between the two factions. Some, who are Al-Qaeda connected, are attacking the US not for just the occupation but also just because of the simple fact that they are American.
If we weren’t in Iraq, those same groups would filter into Europe or America and cause people harm JUST for being an American or European. I don’t understand why people don’t get that!
Does anyone have audio or a transcript of the President just speaking?
I will call em like i see em “people who wish to cause me harm”…
then there is this: “people who intend to cause me harm who are going to die”
and my favorite ” Did i fire 5 shots or 6 ? Well i will tell ya in all this confusion i kinda forgot myself… but you got to ask yourself one question… do you feel lucky … WELL DO YA PUNK?? ….
The enemy of my enemy is my friend and once we crush our enemy you will again be my enemy….so therefore i have decided to nuke both of you … have a great day ….
Actually JonR, reading the bulk of his comments where these creeps are concerned, admire is simply too weak a term.
Adore is closer, I think…
——————————
Carry on Sir! Doesn’t bother me in the least. I thought it was quite creative… in asymetric warfare we all need to think along unconventional lines.
I’ve always thought that our military should put together a “standard burial kit” to be used in the standard burial of any jihadist.
I would think the minimum such a kit should contain would be:
I am not suprised abt State, I’ve often wondered if we could simply close it, moving the 3 or 4 employees who actually perform a valid function to other departments.
A large part of State’s huge uptick in out-of-control-Anti-US behavior needs to be attributed to the Chief Exec., since human nature is such that bad behavior increases until reined-in. But word-banning? I find no surprise from an admin. where a Pres. can — contrary to his oath — sign a law that bites a big chunk from Freedom of Political Speech.
Yes, I know the argument: he didn’t think SCOTUS would let it stand….
That doesn’t relieve his obligation to the Constitution, nor to his Oath of Office.
Understand, I’m not a tin-hat: I’m not accusing GWB of treason: that’s silly. It is just one more straw with an “R” on it, placed on the camel’s back. GWB’s term may be abt over, but the “fenceless”-pain will last and last.
And, we’ve let the mallowmar wing of the party w/dumbocrats stick us w/another one. One as bad, or worst.
Its going to be a long eight years…

ROFL, that was truly inspired. Thanks.
Say lgm troll since when do “patriots” go around blowing up market places? How is that freeing the ‘yoke of American oppression’ from the Iraqi people? Dunce.
lgm, I usually stay away from feeding the trolls, but your “patriot” comment has my blood boiling. You get your news from Juan Cole? That explains so much! For those who aren’t familiar with Mr. Cole, here’s a quick read (second story down) — and be sure to read the “clarification” at the end. What a complete ass. But it gives a good perspective on how lgm’s twisted mind works. Lovely how the “academics” stick together. (Scary enough for me to wonder what’s to happen when my daughter goes to college — and she’s only 7 now.)
What was the BS they said? Calling a Muslim a “jihadist” is like calling a Christian a knight in shining armor?
What PC moron dredged that up?
To All the PC Morons:
CRUSADE!, CRUSADE!, CRUSADE!
Awww, c’mon, how else are they going to rid the population of undesirables like the mentally handicapped they recently used?
Talk about sick and twisted!?
WOW
Just when we thought he could not lower the stupid bar any lower, he dug a hole 4 rungs down.
WOW
If we call them “polygamists”, which is a practice allowed by the Quran, then liberals won’t care about them or their constitutional rights any more. And Texas can take all their children away from them under the excuse that they teach their children to obey their parents - we can’t have that in OUR society - and they are in imminent danger of becoming child brides or suicide bombers when they grow up.
ROFLMAO
LGM, you pig. You don’t know squat about anything that deals with those who serve and those of us who send them off. You adore the jihadist because you hate the military. You admire them because you loathe those who serve. Getting your info from left wing, anti-military, anti-American websites is your business. You don’t know anyone who has been killed, or injured or who has been over there. Yeah, you say they’re small numbers, you forgot to say that many of the Iraqis train in Iran but that doesn’t fit your agenda. You are a keyboard warrior mathboy and that’s all you’ll ever be.
IMHO the State Dept. is full of it…their restriction of words used is a direct violation of the 1st Amendment. Maybe some of these state dept. lawyers need to take a refresher course on the constitution…they are all lawyer are they not?
Say what you want about the President, but he was wonderful today. He did not give an inch, he was to the point, and he stated his case clearly.
The blame truly belongs to congress. Harry and Nancy are ineffective and are nothing but obstructionists. We need to drill ANWAR, build refineries, and NOT open up our reserves unless it is absolutely necessary. Should supply of foreign oil is cut, then maybe…. Right now is not the time. IN the meantime we should be looking for replacement sources of oil, as we are looking for viable fuel alternatives.
The oil industry’s top executives were grilled before the arrogant U.S. House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming on April 1, when it is the latter who bear the responsibility for the very problem of rising costs of gasoline and diesel fuel.
Ramirez’s cartoon was a great illustration of the hypocrisy of this congress! http://www.townhall.com/funnies/cartoonist/MichaelRamirez/2008/04/11
Transportation is vital for our economy to survive.
I was told by leftists back in the days I still was in uniform, that my service in Nam was basically waging war on “patriots”…… never thought history would repeat itself…. but it sure has….. Wipe “patriot” from the lexicon….. it doesn’t mean anything apparently. ( shaking head)
I saw on Glen Beck last night that in the 70’s when we were planning on building 100 coal to gas plants…the price dropped from 39 to 8 bucks. So we only built 1.
GWB loves US so much that he gave his political life to keep us safer and more secure.
Reminds me of something I read in a book, “He gave his only begotten son…” I’ve always believed in GWB. Sure he had to pander to the Dems which has us in so much of the financial turmoil we experience, but he has stood by his principals, and his oath to the American people. We can count on him. He will not let us down. I miss him already.

Drama Queen said (#48):
I don’t think Bush is Jesus. I don’t think he sacrificed his political future for the sake of his country.
No matter what his personal political career was ending in 2008. Nothing he does not can change that. Even presidents who leave office very popular (Clinton) cannot be re-elected.
I think Bush started the Iraq war to be re-elected in 2004. In 2003, he figured (correctly) that the war would still be popular in 2004 and he could run on the protect American line. He sacrificed the lives of 4000 American men and women to keep himself in office 4 more years.
He also sacrificed the future of the Republican party and the conservative movement. They both are discredited by his awful performance.
Remember, that image of Bush strutting around on the deck of an aircraft carrier (like a peacock) was a political stunt. He didn’t need to wear a flight suit.
#48-lgm,
Weren’t you politely dismissed earlier today? Go lay down by your dish.
He sacrificed 4,000 lives to stay in office? You blind foolish person! ( sorry if I get banned) The Islamic scum killed over 3,000 men women and children in OUR country. The leader of Iraq murdered hundreds of thousands more, we had citizens beheaded on video, people killed in Spain… and you dare to say it was for an election. As God is my witness, may we never meet on a street. For the others here, I apologize, but to you, lgm…. never.
LGM, newsflash mathboy, OIC of the Keyboard Brigade of Warriors-he was a pilot. Not even you would look good in a flight suit and I say this as having one of the ugliest cousins in the world who is a Navy pilot, even Steve looks hot in his. You on the other hand, well it’s not worth getting banned over.
Just for one day, let’s nobody even bother replying to lgm. I learned this in dog obedience class when I took my beast, Eddy: The way to get your animal to stop objectionable conduct is to simply ignore it.

We may have to do this several times to alter lgm’s behavior, but trust me, it works.
vickisoup
Ahhh words of a sage. I ‘ll do just that… thanks for a “cooling” suggestion.
Okay Vickisoup, I will try this, some days are better than others though!
OK, I should clarify my earlier comment: The way to stop objectionable attention-grabbing conduct, as lgm exhibits, is to ignore it. Other objectionable conduct, which I’ll leave to your imagination, the experts say it’s OK to step in and yell, “Bad Dog!”.
Yikes, and Double Yikes!! That didn’t come out the way I intended at all, when I wrote it today on the run at work. I am a major supporter of President Bush, and here is what I meant to post:
On April 29th, 2008 at 5:10 pm, lgm said:
I disagree.
The reasons for the war in Iraq are many fold, and I agree with all of them, but chief among them is the fact that had there not been a military response against a known enemy of the U.S. for the attacks of 9/11, the outcry from the American people would have been deafening.
Furthermore, the Republican Party would have been excoriated for their inaction, and rightly so, dooming us to political defeat for the next century and garnering us the label of the “party of cowards,” a.k.a., the Democrat Party (cheap shot but I couldn’t resist).
I’m with you vickisoup. I will TRY to ignore him, but he’s like a hummingbird on crack, jumping from thread to thread, lobbing his mindlessly tedious vomitbombs. My patience with people like that is at an all-time low.
#50:
While currently a President of the US who has served 2 terms cannot be re-elected, he certainly can be appointed to the US Supreme Court (Howard Taft).
GW Bush will likely fade into obscurity once he leaves office 1.20.2009 .
This of course assumes he isn’t indicted for war crimes.

Don’t hold your breath.
It will NOT work. I was the leader of the:
I G N O R E

pack. He would post something stupid and I would go right behind him with:
I G N O R E
H I M
to no avail. The next post would be someone who would confront him. It is best to poke fun at him, slap him down, insult him and tell him to scat.
Chances are, after every vile he said on this thead, you will not get banned.
Soap, I know you’re right…. but I do love to fight…….. I really need therapy! Where’s my Bushmills?
Naturally, LGM would call terrorists patriots. Because if you didn’t, you might be an Islamophobe.
Have you joined al-quedia yet? Because they are in Iraq and they are making this a holy war. That’s their motto. It’s NEVER been Iraqi freedom.
If it is, please explain to why they are willing to kill innocent Iraqis in the HOPE (usually they fail) of trying to kill USA forces?
Ever heard of al Sadr?
Well everyone, I guess LGM has been brainwashed by 7th-Century men who stand against everything he/she fights for everyday here on Mrs. Malkin’s blog.
We will defeat the JIHADISTS no matter how many liberals join the ranks of osama!
So let’s keep on evangelizing Muslims in Africa and the Middle East, let’s keep the noose tight around the Taliban, and let’s show liberals how to take care of an enemy!
allah akkbar, LGM
And to the rest of you: God Bless!
No worries! I always ignore “little goofy men” - aka lgm
It’s Zio-Nazis and Crusaders versus Jihadists and Islamo-fascists.
So, US President/Commander-in-chief is busy re-paying his wahhabBi masters in Riyadh for making him rich. Ofcourse, nothing less than Islamization of US is acceptable to the wahhabbis. and given time, Bush will sell US out to his masters. Right now, he is busy protecting his masters from those rogue terrorists, with US blood and money.
And Americans watch instead of impeaching a traitor. Good for Bush and his wahhabbi family in Riyadh.
I feel so sorry for these extremist Muslims young children, who are brought into this world seeking only to be loved and are taught only to hate. Their families have sown the winds of destruction for these children reject reason and compromise and kill anyone, including their own families, who disagrees with them. No Muslim is safe with such monsters amongst their midst. They have created a society filled with mass murderers.
There is a difference between being p.c. and using accurate language. A Jihad is usually used in Muslim circles as a personal spiritual war. The Hymn “Onward Christian Solder” is not a war cry. To use the word incorrectly would only provoke rational people like you if the tables were turned. It is like calling a Christian a cannibal because of transfiguration. Some will hate us for no reason. Most just want to live their lives in peace like anyone else. Hate and ignorance have blinded people on both sides.
