Countdown to May Day: “Amnesty for all”

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 30, 2008 03:25 PM

Yesterday, I gave you a preview of the open-borders circus slated to open tomorrow morning. Expect protests at ICE offices, protests at businesses that support worker verification, raw reconquista hatred, student truancy encouraged by illegal immigration-sympathizing teachers and principals, and the usual flag wars. Organizers anticipate smaller numbers this year, but the militant undercurrents will remain.

I have asked before whether Barack Obama would be marching this year, as he did last year, with the pro-illegal immigration crowd. Will he stand “shoulder-to-shoulder” with them again?

One race panderer on board: Jesse Jackson, whose Rainbow-PUSH group has teamed up with Latino open-borders groups to organize the Chicago May Day demonstration tomorrow.

Here is their “list of demands:”

Our Demands

EQUAL RESPECT / EQUAL PAY FOR EVERY WORKER
Legalization for All NOW !
Second Chance for All NOW !
Defend the Right to Organize
Fight for a Living Wage
Legalization for Elvira Arellano and Flor Crisostomo

PEACE BY JUSTICE, SECURITY BY RESPECT
End the War in Iraq, bring the Troops Home
Respect for the Self-Determination of Nations
Clean Up for Vieques
Replace Globalization with Nobilization

KEEP FAMILIES TOGETHER
Stop the Separation of Families
Stop the Hate, Stop the Violence,
Stop the Guns, Stop the Drugs
Health Care for Every Family
Equal, Quality, Respectful Education
A Moratorium on Mortgage Foreclosures
Naturalize Foreign-Born Spouses of LGBT Couples
Refugee Rights for LGBT People Fleeing Persecution

FAIR TRADE MAKES FAIR BORDER,
Renegotiate NAFTA
Good Jobs on Both Sides of the Border

VOTE FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT VOTE
Vote for the Children
Vote for those without papers
Vote for those in and out of prison

How about Teddy Kennedy? Will he come out again and share his Spanish warbling?

Here are more details on the Bay Area goings-on:

Organizers in cities and towns around the U.S. are hoping to bring back the historical significance of May 1st in international labor and workers’ struggles, and to reignite the labor movement by integrating recent undocumented workers’ struggle for amnesty. Marches, rallies, and other gatherings on that date will focus on issues such as federal agencies and ending harassment by local police, raids, and the separation of families in immigrant communities; stopping the use of “no-match” letters to intimidate worker organizing efforts; holding elected officials accountable to supporting immigrant rights; funding human needs and services instead of militarism and war; and amnesty for those who do not have current documents.

Under the broad theme of Workers Uniting Without Borders –Amnesty for All, protesters will gather in San Francisco on Thursday, May 1st for a 2:00pm rally in Dolores Park, a 3:30pm march to Civic Center, and a 5:00pm rally and musical performance. The final planning meeting will take place on April 24th at 7pm at 522 Valencia St., near 16th St. BART. In Santa Cruz, march participants will wear green in solidarity with campus workers. There will be a 12pm rally in Quarry Plaza, followed by a march to a 4pm celebration in San Lorenzo Park. A march, rally, outdoor film screening, and other activities will take place in Watsonville starting at 4pm in the Plaza. An Immigrant Rights May Day March in Oakland will gather at 3 pm at Fruitvale BART Plaza for a march down International Blvd. to a 6pm rally at Oakland City Hall (14th & Broadway). In San Jose, an Immigrants Being Active Participants in Change march will gather at 4pm in the Mi Pueblo Foods parking lot (Story and King Roads) and will head down King Road and Santa Clara Street to San José City Hall (Santa Clara and 5th Streets). In Fresno, a March for Immigrant Rights will gather at 3pm in the Fulton Mall Free Speech Area, with plans for a 5pm march (imc_video.gifVideo). In San Diego, the community will gather at City College, march down Broadway to Pantoja Park, and then the day’s events will continue with a public assembly at Memorial Park at Oceanview and 30th .

Keep me posted if you plan on covering or protesting the circus in your neighborhood.

I am REALLY tiring of these invaders demands. Throw them out and make them take their anchor babies with them. Then tell us “you broke up families”. Family’s are together. Problem solved.

And while we are at it, first order of business for congress that cares about America and it’s history, is to clarify the 14th amendment so that “birthright citizenship” is ended immediately and made retro back to 17 years. Many beleive the constitution does not need to be amended (requiring 2/3 majority), just clarified for the courts (only simple majority). This move would cut off the argument about the “but my baby is an American citizen” crap. Illegals and their supporters use these anchor babies a shields by taking advantage American generosity and compassion.

Yes that’s right, reality is merely someone else’s philosophy. One can and should reject perceived reality because it is just an opinion. Marxist philosophy seeks to create a different version of reality that will get forced on everyone. Mayday is a holiday that encourages putting the blinders on and not believe what you see, hear, or previously were taught.

I believe in respect for all illeagal immigrant workers…we should send them back across the border with the same amount of dignity they used heading north.
    I believe in keeping families.
together, deport them all illeagal imigrant families together irregardless of where they were born.

I believe in fair trade, we should keep gaps in the border wall at well regualted leagal crossing points so all incoming and out going cargo may be inspected, and all border crossers have valid and proper visa’s and ensure they properly depart when they expire.

I believe in voting, as long as you are a leagal citizen, for our leagal childern to be in safe schools. Vote for our health care system, and to be rid of those who pay no taxes and are a drain on the system. Vote for those who have no papers make sure they get their plane tickets home, and they board their flight, and finally if you are in prison, there is probably a good reason for that and should stay there until your sentence is over, then properly deported back whence you came.

So you are OK with any number of illegal immigrants as long as they speak English. The moment we have such laws, I am sure an astute businessman will start ‘English in 24 hrs’ classes across border.

I am all for making English as primary language of this country; but asking all to just speak English will only hurt tourists. Solution to illegal immigrants is not simple, my friend. Yea, some might say to just enforce current laws; but where will yout get additional money to even have police officers check immigration records of anyone (millions) in doubt? Increase taxes - not a single penny of which is paid by illegals?

This might be a really long post, apologies beforehand.

Let’s break this list of demands down. I’ll skip some for space, but lets have some fun with it!

EQUAL RESPECT / EQUAL PAY FOR EVERY WORKER Legal citizens do usually get a competetive wage. When you’re legal, you can too!

    Legalization for All NOW !

I agree! You can find a local immmigration office near you, its in the phone book! or Google!

    Defend the Right to Organize

This is given to people who organize these events in spades. I dont remember an ICE raid on one of them, though there needs to be.

    Fight for a Living Wage

We are! The faster you get out of our country, the more surplus for those who are citizens looking for better opportunity, as a result of others not bleeding us dry.

PEACE BY JUSTICE, SECURITY BY RESPECT

Respect doesn’t keep illegals out. This should read “Peace by Enforcement, Security by Fencing” to be more accurate.

Respect for the Self-Determination of Nations

I have no respect for another bordering nation being “self determined” to come here and take what they don’t deserve and don’t assist in paying into.

    Replace Globalization with Nobilization

What the hell does this mean? ROFL

    Stop the Separation of Families
Stop the Hate, Stop the Violence,
Stop the Guns, Stop the Drugs

Oh, we’re working on that too….now about that fence……

    Equal, Quality, Respectful Education

Good Luck with those, amigo. Our public schools arent exactly up to par on the world stage. We want those too.

Good Jobs on Both Sides of the Border

We dont do bad here, but if you don’t like how things are back home, maybe you should go back and try and fix it, instead of draining our resources and surplanting your culture here?

VOTE FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT VOTE
    Vote for the Children
    Vote for those without papers

English translation: Don’t remove the anchor baby laws so we can continue to abuse it for our own end, and make sure that you try and get laws passed that make it wrong to check ID at the polls, so mi amigos can vote without being checked too!

Not my usual stuff, but work is busy. :(
But this garbage gets me hot under the collar. I enjoy the right, and believe in the idea, of free speech for all. But for those who are not citizens to cross our border illegally (and by doing so become criminals in the act), who refuse to assimilate to our culture and language…then DEMAND we capitulate to their whims while they bleed our economy, social programs, health care services, job market and education systems dry

I say send them ALL home. I want my country back. Build the fence. Enforce our current laws.

If you want something to respect…how about respecting our rule of law, our culture, and our borders. That would be a good start.

I have the solution. And yes at least TRYING to enforce the laws is one answer. Look, this problem developed over many years and will take many years to solve. I am not big on a border fence frankly, though it won’t hurt. The solution is comprehensive and frankly logical.

ATTRITION THROUGH REMOVAL OF THE MAGNETS THAT DRAW AND KEEP THEM HERE. By eliminating the magnets you eliminate the reason to come or stay. Also, making life miserable while being here illegally just gives that extra boost. No need to spend a lot more $. Here is the plan (espoused by many but never by the MSM).

    1. Cease birthright citzenship and make retro active back to 1986.
    2. End all entitlements to illegals
    3. Health care only in life threatenting situations
    4. Increse fines on businesses hiring illegals to 1st stike $10K per, 2nd strike $100K per, 3rd strike loss of business charter and seizure of assets and 1 year mandatory jail (model after Sarbannes Oxley)
    5. Give businesses an easy and accurate way to verify SS#
    6. When encountered by police in routine work, deportation
    7. Anyone caught in the US illegally, and has not reported to ICE, is deported immediately. No asking for refugee assylum or hearing of any sort. You had your chance to do the right thing so bye bye. All of their possessions in the US (house/car/etc) to be seized and auctioned to pay for deportation costs.
    8. If caught 2nd time in US illegally, banned form ever coming again for any reason (ie no visa) and deported immediately
    9. 3rd time caught illegally here, a mandatory 1 year sentence in prison
    10. Pass constitutional amendment that the gov’t can NEVER give amnesty to ilegals for any reason in the future.

See, no hope of citizenship, no $, no freebies, so why stay or come in the first place? I am sure other items could be included but this would take care of most. Now, to be fair, I would delay enacting these changes for 1 year to give the illegals here time to take care of their personal business (like sell house/car/belongings) and provide businesses time to find and train replacements. I would entertain some kind of very strict worker visa program once the “all clear” signal was given. As word got out that the party was over, those contemplating coming illegally would stop. Afterall, what is the purpose of spending $K to be smuggled in if there is no payoff in the end. Sorry for length but important.

They differ on the solution but the majority opposes it. The so called “elected representatives” refuse to listen, but it is there for everyone to see. So your statement is ridiculous an uninformed.

More likely, ICE would send every agent to get a good count of just how many visa’s they need to rubber stamp once the congress finally manages to force amensty down our throats. That way they have a head start with pre-filled in forms, rubber stamped, just waiting for a name. I have NO FAITH in ICE to even minimally enforce the laws they are tasked with.

Doesn’t that need a constitutional amendment? And why 1986? Why not 2008 or 1950? The fight on deciding the date will just drag for years and we will have more illegals during that time:(. The easiest would be from now-on.

    >5. Give businesses an easy and accurate way to verify SS#

It is already there in many states and also we have SAVE act coming into picture while giving out Driver’s License to immigrants. Till now the only use of this is in harassing LEGAL immigrants because of extremely poor implementation. An illegal gets by since he/she has a stolen SSN of a citizen. A legal immigrant has valid SSN and gets caught up in the bureaucracy b/w DMV, USCIS and the FBI. Correcting this system would need millions and if our politicians can scrap some PORK projects to fund this, it would be a dream come true.

Weary Citizen #64 great list of how to deal with our unwelcome guests. These people really need to start walking on egg shells instead of rubbing their illegal activities in our faces. Most people I talk to are losing their patience with the inaction of government at all levels and the brazen actions of the invaders every Mayday. The average American citizen is just about at the breaking point and it is only going to take one spark that will ignite a push back that may be anything but peaceful. I agree with many others on this site it is time to lock and load. If the illegal enablers want my guns ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE!

    Marches to close some intersections
Organizers of tomorrow’s May 1st march and rally in downtown Santa Rosa say thousands will take to the streets to call for an end to local immigration raids and unfair free trade agreements that are part of he root cause of international immigration.

Davin Cardenas, an organizer with the Graton Day Labor Center and a key organizer of the May 1st march, said the event has three goals:

Demonstrate local support for the creation of a “county of refuge” for undocumented immigrants in Sonoma County.

To call for the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department to end its local cooperation with federal immigration officials.

To end free trade agreements, such as NAFTA, which event organizers said have further impoverished millions living in developing nations, forcing them to seek economic opportunities in other countries.

Two marches, one beginning at 12 p.m. in Santa Rosa’s Roseland neighborhood and the other at 1 p.m. at Santa Rosa Junior College, will meet at Juilliard Park on Santa Rosa Avenue.

A counter demonstration organized by the Sonoma County chapter of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps is scheduled to take place at 100 Santa Rosa Avenue beginning at 12 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m.

“We’ll be there to protest illegal immigration, the fact that the march is happening is perfect opportunity,” said William Gifford, director of the local chapter of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

Gifford said he and others will call for Sonoma County not to become a “sanctuary area” and would like more cooperation between sheriff’s deputies and federal immigration agents working in the area.

Gifford said the one thing they share in common with organizers of the May 1st march and rally is a condemnation of NAFTA, which he said has forced many U.S. jobs to places like Mexico.

“NAFTA has affected us and some of our jobs and companies and corporation have moved to Mexico, where they’re paying lower wages and sending products back to us at premium prices,” said Gifford. “The American consumers have not seen any real benefit from the relocation of American jobs.”

The Roseland gathering will begin on Sebastopol Road just west of Dutton Avenue. From there demonstrators will go east on Sebastopol Road to Railroad Avenue, then Fifth Street, around Santa Rosa Plaza, up First Street and down Santa Rosa Avenue to Juilliard Park.

This route is expected to periodically halt traffic at several intersections as marchers take up one lane of traffic.

The second march from Santa Rosa Junior College will travel down Mendocino Avenue, Healdsburg Avenue, B Street, Fourth Street and Santa Rosa Avenue to Juilliard Park. The march will use the sidewalk and is not expected to affect traffic.

Directly. LAPD had to go through special training on how not to offend the illegal invaders. That’s tax payer money down the drain and time misspent. Instead of trainging them how to treat the rock throwers, they should be on the street cracking up their gangs.

Here’s an Idea, police department always run these stings with putting a cop on a corner posing as a prostitute then they ticket, jail, find the guys trying to purchase the illegal labor.

Why don’t they do that to contractors that hire illegals. Dress some cops up like illegals, put them at home depot, and when the people come to hire them, FINE THEIR A$$E$ like there is no tomorrow. Watch the work dry up for the illegals and the wages go up for the legals. NO WORK, NO STAY.

The fines could be used to fix the mess the illegals will leave behind.

I think if we put it in term of prostitution the Politicos will listen.

I’m John Ansell and I approve my post.

I love the sign “We are workers, not criminals”.

It cracks me up that they believe that they can simply declare that they are not criminals. I didn’t realize you could do that. I wonder if they’ll continue to believe that when someone commits a crime against them and attempts to shrug it off by saying “I’m not a criminal”.

The fact is that they are in this country in violation of it’s laws. Yet, somehow, they believe that this does not make them criminals. This shows that they are either completely illogical, completely detached from reality, or completely lacking in integrity. Take your pick. Whatever you choose, it says a lot about the quality of the human beings we’re dealing with.
