Al-Qaeda leader in Somalia flattened by missile strike; World press fumes, whines
Here’s a couple of paragraphs from one international News Bureau’s reporting on the airstrikes that killed Al-Qaeda’s leader in Somalia:
U.S. missiles destroyed the house of the man believed to be the top Al Qaeda commander in Somalia, killing him and 10 others Thursday in a pre-dawn attack that analysts warned could torpedo peace talks but have little impact on the Islamic insurgency.
The killing of Aden Hashi Ayro comes amid escalating fighting and a spiraling humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa nation….
The talks offered a slim hope of bringing together the disparate groups in the armed opposition. But Thursday’s attack damages the negotiations before they begin, said Rashid Abdi, an analyst at the International Crisis Group think tank.
It may also undermine the new prime minister, who wished to include more extreme fighters in the talks despite opposition from the president.
“However much the Americans claim the war on terror is one thing and the peace process is another thing, it’s not that clear-cut,” Abdi said. “This will definitely have political repercussions.”…
Analyst Iise Ali Geedi of Somali University said the killings will fuel suspicions that the United States is using the talks as a fig leaf.
“The U.S. is entertaining Somalis with empty diplomatic efforts — and is chasing its terror suspects on the other hand,” he said. “I would like the U.S. to support reconciliation rather than carrying out attacks.”
Here’s another:
A US air raid in Somalia has killed up to 30 people, including two senior leaders of the armed opposition group al-Shabaab.
Four aircraft bombed the town of Dusamareb, 300km north of Mogadishu, on Thursday.
Among the dead was Aden Hashi Eyrow, the military commander of al-Shabaab, the Union of Islamic Courts’ (UIC) former military wing.
Bob Prucha, a US military spokesman, told the [other] news agency that US forces had attacked a “known al-Qaeda target”.
Mukhtar Robow Adumansur, an al-Shabaab spokesman, said: “It is true that infidel planes bombed Dusamareb. This was an unprovoked attack["]…
Somali intelligence sources said Eyrow was trained in Afghanistan as a mujahid and later, worked with the Taliban before Afghanistan was attacked by US-led forces.
He then returned to Somalia to establish al-Shabaab as the military wing of the Islamic courts.
Make your guess and then click through to see which is which: can you tell AP’s reporting from Al-Jazeera’s?
You’d think this ought to be easy, but it’s not.

Just as they are sooo close to peace. Oh my!
wOOt! P0Wn3d, sucka.
ah shucks…. buh bye scumbag.
torpedo peace talks? how about put a hellfire missile through the “peace talks”?
“Missile torpedoes talks”
Nyuk,nyuk.
I guessed correctly but only because there was such a focus on explaing who Eyrow (Ayro) was in the second article.
The problem that I see these “analysts” having is confusing al-Qaeda members with anyone who should be allowed to discuss a peaceful settlement.
I like how the one news agency referred to him as a former “military commander” of al-Shabeeb. The only al-Qaeda reference comes from an “infidel” source.
Hope he’s enjoying his stay in Hell!
how can you have peace talks when it is an honor to lie to your enemy and to dangle the carrot in front of them while preparing to attack them in the future? to believe that ‘peace talks’ were really going to accomplish something is idiocy.
i guess his roosters have come home to roost, hey?
Please read the article. It makes sense. You have to wonder: if you kill one bad guy at the expense of starting a humanitarian crisis (many innocent people dying of starvation), is it worth it?
Are those filthy Ba$tatds dancing and handing out candy in Gaza yet?
Tens of Billions of US Tax Dollars spent for years and no candy?
Call Jimmy Carter and complain.
What difference between the AP and Al-Jazeera? The AP will never call a terrorist a terrorist. He is either a “militant” or an “activist.”
I still remember Mogadishu… revenge is sweet. Oh and as for starving, nimrod? The Islamic pigs having been starving that country for decades…
The ‘infidel planes’ was the clue for me, other than that, it was hard to tell. This is the only kind of ‘peace talk’ that the jihadis understand, has been through time immemorial, why the left doesn’t understand that, I’ll never know.
Starting a humanitarian crisis, lgm? It’s been going on for decades!
We might as well take out the bad guys; any crisis will be blamed on the U.S. anyway
Good Riddance.
Some how I can’t get the picture of Slim Pickins riding that torpedo out of my mind…
Is there a difference between AP and Al Jazeera?

Actually it was a nuke dropped from a B-52. Sorry old SAC guy! We used to love watching Doctor Strangelove especially when on Alert.
Looks like our troops continue to take care of buisness. No virgins for you!
Deal with it. It’s called payback, it’s a bitch, and it ain’t over yet!
Boomer
funny how no one ever asks what happens when the virgins run out …
These morons who whine about consequences regarding the peace talks are very, very ignorant of the reality of the people being spoken about in these reports. The slightest perceived offense is followed by savagery, burnings, beheadings and bombings. If we rollover to every potential threat coming from them it will only encourage more despicable behavior.
As others here have mentioned already, peace talks are only a smoke screen for these animals. They will lie to your face and then at the most opportune time for them they will attempt to kill you once again. Those who do not understand this are living in some sort of altered state of mind and are no more than useful fools for the killers from islam.
Afterwards, the musical accompaniment to the mushroom cloud:
“We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when…….”
An operation like this is a positive on many levels. It shows intelligence is working and penetrating their operatons. It takes out a bunch of the bad guys. It sends a message to would be jihadists that there is no safe place. I don’t spend much time worrying about what the media, foreign or domestic has to say about actions against the terrorists. I spend zero time caring about what individuals have to say about the consequences of our actions. It’s that kind of thinking that led our enemies to believe they could attack us with impunity.
That one deserves the virgin camel. Thanks SAC for keeping the friendly skies that way!
Worst part about SAC was the location of the bases. Yeccch.
Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish and OIC Keyboard Warrior guess you’ve missed the last 20 or so years. They’ve been causing their own humanitarian crisis.
Hey lgm I did read the unbiased AP article and the following passage might interest you:
” Sheik Muqtar Robow, a spokesman for the al-Shabab militia that Ayro led, called Ayro a martyr for the Islamist cause.
“Our brother martyr Aden Hashi, has received what he was looking for — death for the sake of Allah at the hands of the United States,” he told The Associated Press.
He said another senior Shabab leader, Sheik Muhidin Mohamud Omar, also was killed in the attack.
Somali government officials have said Ayro, who was believed to be in his 30s, trained in Afghanistan before the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on the United States and is the head of Al Qaeda’s cell in Somalia.
Few Somalis had heard of him before 2005, when Ayro desecrated a colonial Italian cemetery in Mogadishu, throwing hundreds of exhumed corpses into the sea. He then built a mosque on the site and began training fighters there.
An International Crisis Group report linked Ayro to the murders of four foreign aid workers, a British journalist and renowned Somali peace activist Abdulqadir Yahya.”
Sounds like a true humanitarian to me and certainly the best hope for peace in the region //sarc off.
It sound like we were able to help him and his buddies get to their paradise a little earlier than planned.
Hey lgm (does that stand for “loser going mental”) Is the Daily Koz a moonbat short today?
Now, that is a good use of tax payer money. Condi, take notice, and stop giving those terrorists money and weapons.
Is that a new weapon?
Why not Minot? Freezing is the reason!
We used to say SAC really stood for Simulate, Authenticate, and Cheat!

Didn’t Pres. Reagan bomb Kahdafi and suddenly that terrorist saw the light:

I also remember the French gvt. not letting us fly over that country so the mission lost a pilot and plane.
I personally boycotted anything French – sure did miss my favorite French perfume.
That would be a problem only if…WE KILLED THE LAST F*&#ING FARMER IN SOMALIA!
A tip of the hat to the late, great Sam Kinison.
LGM,
Personally, I think the absolute and unconditional obliteration of our enemies, regardless, is a good thing.
If there is a “humanitarian crisis” (which we didnt cause, btw…), then we can deal with it.
After the bad guys are all dead and gone.
Whacking a senior terrorist leader sounds like an excellent way to begin peace talks. It makes war so much less attractive to the other side…
If this has the effect of escalating the civil war in Somalia, lots of innocent Somalis will die of starvation. Maybe it’s worth, but if it doesn’t give you pause, there’s a moral screw loose (bring on the snark).
Think of a thriller movie where the bad guy tries to incite a civil war in a third world country to settle a personal score. We may have done just that.
“Think of a thriller movie where the bad guy tries to incite a civil war in a third world country to settle a personal score.”
i’ll try and type slowly, just for you to be able to comprehend:
dude was al-q. dude wants us dead. dude has made various statements and actions to said effect over some amount of years. we found dude’s location. we killed dude. dude can no longer do what he did as mentioned in the 2nd and 3rd sentences. this is a good thing.
this has never made sense to me, they treat women like crap then are all excited about “paradise” with the virgins…. treat the one’s on earth with the respect they deserve, dont expect getting any rewards later for the treatment your dishing out now.
Planes are just planes, Mukhtar. They have no religious affiliation. We infidels learned that the hard way. The pilots were infidels, and unlike your pilots, they’ll be back…again and again and again.
Hey, nice catch Ayro !!

Hey lgm, they just whacked 11 terrorists. Look at all the FOOD that saves for everyone else! Problem solved.
That was close to what I was going to type. I will add that ours are trained to take off and land.
Oh i must respond…
We will hunt terrorist down no matter where you are. If you help, harbor, aid or support terror groups thwn you maybe subject to some shell shock….
Please see answer above.
If we want to win this war it is time to fight terrorist like a war not a police action. As General William T. Sherman said:
“Every attempt to make war easy and safe will result in humiliation and disaster. “
#46 AJ, what if those ‘virgins’ turn out to be lesbians?
These jihadist always claim they want to die for Allah and then they go and hide in bunkers and dress like women to hide from the very people who are working over time to grant them that wish.
Our military is trying to give jihadist their dying wish. A little more sincereity from them about their dedication to die for Allah is all I am asking.
arent all lesbians virgins?
My biggest problem with this thread is that HUGE portrait of Mr. Reno that pops up everytime I open this post’s comments. (shudders)
Hate to tell you this, but there is a dead giveaway in one of them that let me know without clicking which report was which.

You’re from my neck o’ the woods. Bartlett H.S. – 1967.
Seems like we could have used the millions of dollars wasted on killing a couple whack-jobs in Somalia some better way…
…like maybe building a fence between the USA and Mexico??

dude, this entire op was prolly under 6 figures …
…Oh yeah or giving it to me rather than literally burning it up???
Folks, there is only lip-service to the war of terror. Charades like this occur periodically so Bush can say, “See, we our war is working!” Sorry, the terrorism that exists today is not a threat, and it does not justify the cost of supporting the defense contractor establishment.
Easy fix, shred the pork, build the fence… Hillary’s pork alone would almost cover it.
and you know this lil tidbit how?
“does not justify the cost of supporting the defense contractor establishment.”
which regular points out — “they always tell on themselves?”

“Our brother martyr Aden Hashi, has received what he was looking for — death for the sake of Allah at the hands of the United States,” he told The Associated Press.
Reminds me of the US General during the Iranian Hostage Crisis who responded to one of the Mullahs saying that the Iranian people were looking forward to being martyred by the Great Satan America by stating that he looks forward to the opportunity to grant them their wish. Maybe sooner….
The only thing I found different between the two was that one used the word infidels, and one didn’t.
I imagine the poor schmuck living next door now has to change his bedsheets.
lgm, as usual, doesn’t quite get it. He more than likely thinks that Jimmy Carter was responsible for bringing peace between Egypt and Israel.

Thank you to our Armed Forces for another kick-a$$ job defending freedom!
Wouldn’t it be better if we dropped a really BIG missle on the whole of Somalia? Now I’m confused,is Brucie and lgm the same person?
Yes gippergirl, this was a great day for justice. Night all………

well, i think lgm is against the fence, so …

Aden Hashi Ayro when he gets to hell: “72 Virginians? I thought it was 72 VIRGINS! Curse you OOOOOSSSAAAAMMMAAA!!!!”
Ok, so that’s not exactly new material, but there are SO many great jokes about that subject. And, at the risk of being too racy: virgins? Really? At least qualify it with “young”; what happens when they get there and it’s a bunch of 70 year-old spinsters?
Well, ain’t this a derned shame…./sarc off
Uh, isn’t that how Al-Gayda works when they send their suicide /car bombers?
Sayonara scumbag, too bad Dracula still isn’t alive he’d stick your head on a pole.
Re; “I would like the U.S. to support reconciliation rather than carrying out attacks.”
Reconciliation
is in the eyes of the beholder…
Now that;s funny right there. I don’t care who you are.
They dont get 72 virgins. They get a 72 year old virgin.
ROFLMBO.
That’s a good one mate. Peace negotiations work when you negotiate from a position of strength. You need to deter the other party by making the prospect of a confrontation something they’d like to avoid. Killing Al-Q’s lead man in Somalia does just that. Now put that screw back in and think on that.
This person was a terrorists, LGM. It’s us for them, and thank goodness for our military. It’s not how I want things to go down, but there is really no other choice.
Now, as far as humanitarian crises go, give to your local shelf or donate to USAID. Just think how many meals Obama could have provided if he hadn’t brought that $99/lb. slab of meat.
See? It’s the selfish elite as to why we have starvation.
And if you want to feed the Somalis, be my guest, LGM! I actually think you have a legitimate point for once. Trouble is, most liberals don’t know the trouble it takes to do that (ie military escort intervention) or they simply don’t have the stomach for it (excuse the metaphor).
I would if I could.
The reality is starvation is a big problem mostly from selfishness.
“Unprovoked attack”???? Whooooooo!! That’s a good one. The only problem with this incident is that not enough of our enemy has been killed. But I have faith that someone is working hard to solve that problem. This person is not a Democrat.

lgm, to refresh your memory of a much-publicized period in our nation’s history, there was a military operation in Northern Kenya dubbed “Operation Provide Relief” which was tasked with providing logistical support to non-government agencies delivering food to starving Somalia in 1992. Warlords in Somalia compromised that mission which led to Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. I was present in Somalia from Dec 92 – July 93 with 2nd Bn 9th Marines in the “famine triangle”. They were starving then too, and had been for a decade, due to their own civil war. The starving did not start with our presence, though we did accomplish much to end it; until 1993 when former President Clinton pulled out the military due to the attacks outlined rather accurately in “Blackhawk Down”.
You really should think your arguments through prior to posting such ridiculousness as “innocent Somalis will die of starvation” since that situation has been going on for over 25 years.
You need to consider that salaries have the least to do with the cost of the operation. The hardware cost of the missiles used to terminate this lowlife man is where the cost to the American taxpayer lies.
Of course, the cost of the missile includes all the payoffs to the defense contractor establishment, so we have some bloated executives and their cousins sitting in their bazillion dollar mansions smoking Cuban cigars while tax money is supporting them.
Then there’s the misinformation of the American government. C’mon folks, the terror threat is for practical purposes nil. Bush and his Democrat friends want you to think that a terror threat exists (1) to make it look like the government is doing something good and (2) to keep the ignorant American populace willing to surrender their rights in exchange for the promise of safety. Fortunately, polling data tends to confirm that most Americans are skeptical of the bogus war on terror.
gippergirl (#78) is a freaking moron for thinking that some two-bit thug in Somalia’s death makes her safer. She’s more of the problem, not a solution.
Rest in Pieces.
Though my sleep patterns didnt change last night due to this piece of human trash being thrown out finally, I did take some comfort that someone ELSE, somewhere else, is safer as a result of his death. Just because we here at home might not feel the immediate effect of this strike, doesnt mean someone closer to his neighborhood doesnt.
And somehow, I dont think gippergirl is out killing innocent civilians and plotting the death of infidels and jews. So gipper, if you’re part of the problem, i’ll also accept you’re part of the solution and call it even
But to be honest Bruce, how many attacks on american soil have there been since 9-11 by these “two bit thugs”?
I cant count any. I would say someone is doing their job, somewhere.
Bruce = lgm
you keep throwing this baloney out, is it hard to breath with that head of yours in the sand?
