Hillary Clinton’s Commoner Tour: Fanfare for the Common Candidate

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 1, 2008 11:15 AM

Have to admit, I snickered heartily at the video clip of Hillary Clinton struggling to operate the coffee machine at a South Bend gas station mini mart yesterday. Via Allahpundit:

When the phone rings at 3am, you can be sure that Hillary’s minions will have her coffee already poured so she doesn’t have to fiddle around with all those damned complicated buttons again.

Hillary also deigned to get out of her vehicle to observe the common practice known as pumping your own gas–unfamiliarity with which she and Nancy “Blink Blink” Pelosi share. Afterwards, she eagerly expressed interest in seeing a local family’s “pigs and chickens.”

Next up: Hillary munching down fried Spam sandwiches on white bread slathered in ketchup.

***

The British press had fun tittering about Hillary’s coffee machine battle, but not much other MSM commentary on the little episode.

Contrast that with the concocted controversy over the first President Bush’s visit to a grocers’ convention–an infamous incident manufactured by a New York Times reporter who wasn’t even at the event and then perpetuated by liberal editorial boards looking for a fable to fit their Republican-as-elitist narrative.

Remember?

***

Since a commenter mentioned it, here’s Aaron Copeland’s Fanfare for the Common Man. Good background music for the Hillary spectacle:

***

Update 11:45am Eastern. Meee-chelle, ma belle is back in the limelight to argue that the Obamas are more regular than anyone else. What was that about arugula and bitter people? Move on, people:

If Michelle Obama had her way, her husband Barack would be a teacher, a writer, a singer, a dancer — anything but a politician with the chance to make history as the first black president of the United States.

She described to an audience in Indianapolis how they struggled, like any other young couple in Middle America, to raise two children and pay off debts.

“We are still so close to the lives that most Americans are living,” she said. “And I don’t know about you but for most of my lifetime, I’ve felt disconnected from Washington.”

The Obamas hope the “regular guy” narrative will resonate with the white working class voters that the Illinois senator has had trouble winning over and who may be the key to his White House bid.

Now she portrays herself as a working gal starting the day pumping the gas and having her gas station coffee. Rest assured that Hillary didn’t drink gas station coffee during all those years she and Bill were going to Rennaisance Weekend on Hilton Head with all their high fallutin wealthy Ivy League friends. If any gas station attendant ever tried to get onto Hilton Head for Rennaisance weekend, the poor guy would be given the boot in about two seconds. Here is my prediction for Hillary’s next working class adventure.
Hillary shows up at a NASCAR event wearing her Jimmy Johnson Tshirt and cap and telling the audience how her granddad used to take her down to a dirt track where she raced and got to be great buds with Richard Petty.
