Early counts: “Red Ken” Livingstone, UK Labour party getting whomped.
Counting still continues but early reports have the execrable crypto-Commie getting paddled.

The real significance of the affair is this: only in a frivolous and debased country could a man as inarticulate, rude, and uncouth as Livingstone be considered fit for public office of any kind, let alone an important public office.
As for the Conservative winner, Boris Johnson, he’s a piece of work and I’m not a big fan. Even among the feckless Tories, BoJo has distinguished himself as a real waste of distinguished hair.
Not only has he tried to renounce his American citizenship, apparently more or less on a whim, he’s also a useless appeaser who wants to give nukes to Iran.
But as with many elections this year, I’m resigned to counting the “least worst” outcome as a victory.
Yee-haw! Zippidy-doo-dah! Enthusiasm!
Well, maybe this will help (from the first link) about the election’s consequences for Labour:
Sky’s political editor Adam Boulton says the result is “beyond the worst” predicted by most analysts.
“This a shattering result for Gordon Brown and Labour,” he said.
“200 seats lost was very bad, 300 seats lost was chronic. Beyond that is panic territory.
I blame George Bush!

Yeah, pretty much. Even the Conservatives over there are flakey. Great Britain, where 50% of my heritage originates, is an early precursor of what will happen to the US. Too bad Dems or Republicans couldn’t be bothered to care about our country, save a few and the wonderful, Conservative folks I have the honor to blog with on this wonderful site.

The best decision I ever made was leaving not-so-great Britain 30 years ago, it was moving left then . My fear has always been that USA is slowly sliding into the abyss that Britain finds itself, but coming to this site regularly cheers me that that won’t happen without a bitter fight. It’s ironic that the ‘conservative’ elected in London would be quite at home here in the Democrat party.

Well, as much as one can disagree with Johnson - if this election finally marks the end of the political career of Red Ken, it is still a good day….
Good to see the weak kneed Jihadist enablers in the Labour Party going down in flames. Of course the Tories are conservative-lite and doubt they will do much better. The PC culture is destroying what used to be Great Britain I wonder if they have any men on the British Isles. The last decent leader they sported was Margret Thatcher and she had more gumballs then any of the men I have seen in the British political arena since she left office.

I used to love visiting England, Scotland, and Wales, but I won’t go there any more. Too sad.
I’m keeping my hopes high on this news. First the French turnaround (uh…notwithstanding Sarkozy’s randy ways, of course), now in Britain…yes. I’m keeping my hopes high.
You’re right, Little Ma, even though Red Ken is out, look who’s replacing him. There is no more stiff upper lip, they all went wobbly years ago. I still visit every 5 years or so, but it is a shadow of what it used to be.
After living there for 5 years from 2001 to 2006, there is little that will change there…rearranging the chairs on the titanic is all this is. How long before sharia law is the “law of the land” and they raise the black flag of islam at 10 downing? Anyone?

Do the schools teach children about the extraordinary courage of the British people during WWII? Do the children know what it means to have a fierce love of freedom? Britain’s children probably don’t understand the history of their country any better than our children understand the history of ours. It breaks my heart.
In the late 1930s-early 1940s, when I was in grammar school, we included “The White Cliffs of Dover” among the patriotic songs we sang during weekly school assemblies. I don’t often wax nostalgic, but this thread brought back memories.
I’m very glad Ken is gone, but Boris as mayor of london… everyone I’ve spoken to is pretty much just laughing about this over here. Better to laugh than cry. And there’s next to no-one in our government that I’d trust in anything more challenging than a middle management position, so I guess he’s not too far off the “least worst” solution.
But hopefully this is a sign that come next general election we’ll get the conservatives in. Not because their policies are hugely different (the name ‘labour’ is a bit misleading since the move to ‘nu-labour’, more left of centre than actual left wing), but at least they won’t have spent the last 10+ years in power getting complacent. So we might see a bit of change.

Although it is a small one, there is a net gain here.
No matter who the mayor of London is going to be, it won’t be Ken Livingston, a POS of the highest order.
In a game of incrementalism, it’s a start that countries throw out extremely liberal politicians of the Schroeder, Chirac, and Livingston model who prove themselves unworthy.
Next may come not electing extremely liberal politicians in the first place to give them an opportunity to screw things up as they always do.
In this country we could start by not giving Obama or Clinton the possibility to be voted out of office later.
It’s a small start, but I don’t think it’s going anywhere. The conservatives in the UK have David Cameron, and that’s it. That party is filled with people who are so old, so dead and so boring that you’d have a hard time determining if they weren’t dead in their seats when you tuned in to BBC Parliament.
Now if the BNP gets more votes in the next election, that could be a big impetus for change. Just having one or two BNP MPs will really liven things up in the two huge slumbering parties.
I’d like to remind my fellow American conservatives that the “Conservative” Party in Britain is much different from ours and is not necessarily more allied with our ideals as the Blair/Brown Labour Party was. At least not as far as Foreign Policy issues are concerned.
The fact that the a party named “Conservative” overwhelmingly won over the Labour is not a good sign for us.
Red Ken can always get a job as a street sweeper in Pyongyang or Havana.
