Ohio Democrat attorney general’s “raunchy frat pad”

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 2, 2008 04:47 PM

Admits extramarital affair. Three aides of his are fired or forced out after an investigation.

And he refuses to step down.

Ohio’s attorney general admitted an extramarital affair with an employee Friday, soon after three of his aides were fired or forced out after an investigation found evidence of sexual harassment and other misconduct.

Leader of both parties were critical of Attorney General Marc Dann, one of several Democrats swept into office in 2006 after a scandal over state investments sullied Republicans. He apologized to his wife and supporters but promised not to step down.

“I’m embarrassed. I have taken responsibility for what I’ve done,” he told reporters.

Dann had lived with two of the aides at an apartment during much of his first year in office and some of the alleged harassment by one of the aides occurred there.

“I did not create an atmosphere in my public and personal life that is consistent with the important mission of the Office of Attorney General …,” Dann said. “I am heartbroken by my failure to recognize the problems being created and by my failure to stop them.”

Ohio GOP deputy chairman Kevin DeWine called for Dann’s resignation, saying he turned the attorney general’s office into a “raunchy frat pad.”

Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland said the investigation showed a “double standard” with Dann staying while some employees were let go.

What’s the matter with Ohio?

Strickland and DeWine had no clue there may be an issue, but now they appear to be outraged? We can’t keep our most closely guarded war secrets out of the NYT headlines, but this behavior was unnoticed?

How about staying out in front of the problem curve. Dog piling somebody who screws up doesn’t make you look more ethical, or more of a leader. We need elected officials to police their own, not just tongue click after someone finally goes too far and gets busted.

Doesn’t anyone mentor in government, or just come down from the mountain after the battle to shoot the wounded?

We always here that the rumors of misconduct were common knowledge after one of these guys gets taken down. The leadership vacuum is appalling.

Another Democrat sleaze story, carefully released on a Friday afternoon to minimize news coverage and collateral damage.

Marc Dann reacts as a Democrat always does, using the same bob-and-weaves that Spitzer and McGreevey used: “I am heartbroken by my failure to recognize the problems being created and by my failure to stop them.”

It never has anything to do with what is right or not, or what he did…but some “failure to stop” himself or to “recognize” that he was sleazy and disgusting.

Of course, being a Democrat means never having to say you’re sorry for being sleazy and disgusting, or to resign unless the heat gets really hot.

Dann can always move to Detroit and run for Mayor….he sounds like an improvement.

Rusty the point isn’t about Democrats or Republicans. It’s really about a man who holds a position in a public office doing something wrong; a man who is looked up to and is supposed to be honorable. And he did something morally reprehensible and is now refusing to take responsibility for his actions. Sure, stepping down is harsh. But when you’re in a PUBLIC OFFICE the consequences become a bit more severe. Shame on all Republicans and Democrats who can’t keep their personal lives clean.

Of course, Traficant and Dann come from the same bastion of wholesome liberal values - Youngstown… sadly, the place where I grew up and still work.

Ted (”Teddy the Love Gov”, I forget who coined that, wasn’t me) Strickland’s reaction should come as no surprise to anyone. Just consider his vote on the APA/pedophilia resolution in the House. Also consider his voter fraud/tax fraud dance (video with info at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EABS4P0kVCo&eurl=).

I hold out some hope that Ohio voters will realize before 2010 that corruption pervades all parties, and that we can get a governor - and a state legislature - that has at least some clue what it’s doing and get this state’s act together.

    But I don’t hold out much hope…
