Ohio Democrat attorney general’s “raunchy frat pad”
Admits extramarital affair. Three aides of his are fired or forced out after an investigation.
Ohio’s attorney general admitted an extramarital affair with an employee Friday, soon after three of his aides were fired or forced out after an investigation found evidence of sexual harassment and other misconduct.
Leader of both parties were critical of Attorney General Marc Dann, one of several Democrats swept into office in 2006 after a scandal over state investments sullied Republicans. He apologized to his wife and supporters but promised not to step down.
“I’m embarrassed. I have taken responsibility for what I’ve done,” he told reporters.
Dann had lived with two of the aides at an apartment during much of his first year in office and some of the alleged harassment by one of the aides occurred there.
“I did not create an atmosphere in my public and personal life that is consistent with the important mission of the Office of Attorney General …,” Dann said. “I am heartbroken by my failure to recognize the problems being created and by my failure to stop them.”
Ohio GOP deputy chairman Kevin DeWine called for Dann’s resignation, saying he turned the attorney general’s office into a “raunchy frat pad.”
Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland said the investigation showed a “double standard” with Dann staying while some employees were let go.

So, has AFP identified him as a Republican yet?
There’s only one thing to do in a case like this….Roadtrip!
Wife by his side for photo op in 5…4…
Good gawd, my wife would kill me - well I am a Republican.
I’m not defending the A.G. here, but really….
Strickland and DeWine had no clue there may be an issue, but now they appear to be outraged? We can’t keep our most closely guarded war secrets out of the NYT headlines, but this behavior was unnoticed?
How about staying out in front of the problem curve. Dog piling somebody who screws up doesn’t make you look more ethical, or more of a leader. We need elected officials to police their own, not just tongue click after someone finally goes too far and gets busted.
Doesn’t anyone mentor in government, or just come down from the mountain after the battle to shoot the wounded?
We always here that the rumors of misconduct were common knowledge after one of these guys gets taken down. The leadership vacuum is appalling.
Should any body be that suprised by all this. Dems can do it because they do no wrong or they cry crocodile tears I’m so sorry. Yet if a Republican got caught his/her fellow Republicans would kick their butt so far out of office his/her head would not know what hit them. Ohio AG is a troll
Maybe the aides called someone a c#*t.
Don’t these guys remember John Wayne Bobbit?
Come to think of it, It’s the only time you’ll see a Democrat fight. When their power is on the line, they turn into mighty warriors.
Did the AG mention this conversation wasn’t helping his children?
That might help
In “The Columbus Dispatch” report, Dann’s political party was not mentioned until the 24th paragraph.
Do you think he might be a…..
DEMOCRAT?
Annie Liebovitz could not be leeched for comment.
Senators Craig and Vitter could not be reached for comment.
Touche, Rusty. Dang, that hurt.
Another Democrat sleaze story, carefully released on a Friday afternoon to minimize news coverage and collateral damage.
Marc Dann reacts as a Democrat always does, using the same bob-and-weaves that Spitzer and McGreevey used: “I am heartbroken by my failure to recognize the problems being created and by my failure to stop them.”
It never has anything to do with what is right or not, or what he did…but some “failure to stop” himself or to “recognize” that he was sleazy and disgusting.
Of course, being a Democrat means never having to say you’re sorry for being sleazy and disgusting, or to resign unless the heat gets really hot.
Dann can always move to Detroit and run for Mayor….he sounds like an improvement.
Yo Yo dawg, it aint nothin’ but a sex thang, chill. Remember, theres a D behind his name. Thats like a hall pass……..

Nor the degenerate Massachusetts Godfathers (Ted Kennedy (D), Barney Frank (D), Gerry Studds (D)) who set the bar and gave aid and comfort to all of their successors by refusing to step down.
Must be a Spitzer fan.
Just imagine his shock and dismay when he first learned the full details of everything he had done. If only he would have found out in time to stop it!
Brother.
Brian, I am not arguing that there aren’t skeletons in the Dems’ closet. Just that the GOP isn’t exactly a well-oiled resignation machine when someone does something stupid.
And I would have gone with Kennedy (who did temporarily leave his seat) and Representative Jefferson.
Frank and Studds didn’t do anything wrong.
Amendment: Frank didn’t do anything wrong. Studds did something wrong but not something worthy of resignation. His constituents (which included my parents) forgave him immediately.
Are all dumocraps also sleaze-bags? This is getting ridiculous!
Why does he even have a choice whether to go or not - it’s a public office, kick his butt out!
Wasn’t Studds the one boffing a 17 year old? Last I checked, that is illegal! And Franks had a male prostitution ring run out of his condo! He said he didn’t know, but I can’t believe you believe that, Rusty!
It’s not just Ohio. Poor character is spreading like the plague.
Franks and Studds didn’t do anything because liberals say they didn’t( sarc off). Slime defending slime… sorry I’m being so pejorative, but I’m getting really irritated with liberals these days.
I’ve heard this in several places. This is the first that mentions what party he is in.
I’m right here in Columbus. This guy is a real piece of work. He rented an apartment with several of his aides and it was used for affairs and partying!! He should resign immmediately but he refuses and the Gov is being a typical Demoncrat.

Vitter and Craig may not have stepped down, but there were certainly calls from the GOP for them to do so.
That’s more than can be said in this case, I should think.

meatpieandtaters, you hit the nail on the head-and its going to get worse before its better-it won’t matter who is running the show.
I’m a FL transplant from Ohio. Lived there 16 years and got the heck out. I got a $400 a month raise by not having to pay state income tax, city income tax, school income tax, township tax, tax, tax, and more tax! What a bunch of nanny ninnys.
O.K., so Ohio has a coupla’ sleazy public figures. Up here in Wa. State we’ve got Baghdad Jim McDermott! Wanna trade???
This is becoming a dog bites man story.
As Rush says, politics is Hollywood for ugly people.
I automatically presume all politicians are sleazy. Then when they live down to my expectations, there’s no heartburn.
What does Marc Dann the purveyor of law and odor look like
I listened to his “news conference” during lunch hour. Rush’s 1st hour was preempted because of it. The guy is a pig, an unabashed, low rent pig. And that’s his strong suit.
This “affair” should help the hapless republicans in Ohio. They may not take advantage of the situation, but it certainly is an opening for them.
MrOlympia #29, sorry about duplicating part of your post but when I started my post the forum was at message #17 and when I posted we were at #35 and you had posted in-between. I had not read the posts between #17 and #29 before posting my pic…
I’ll see your McDermott and raise you a Kucinich.
rowsdower; Throw in a James Traficant and I think you got the game won hands down.
Huh?
Barney Frank and male prostitution from his apartment
Darn, I fold………..
#25, in the time and place the late Gerry Studds was having a queer relationship with the 17-year-old House page, the age of consent was 16.
Studds *did* receive a censure by the House (420-3 vote).
We can hope the people of Ohio insist on this A.G.s resignation.
LOL Spo-Con, sorry to ruin the game for ya.
Rusty the point isn’t about Democrats or Republicans. It’s really about a man who holds a position in a public office doing something wrong; a man who is looked up to and is supposed to be honorable. And he did something morally reprehensible and is now refusing to take responsibility for his actions. Sure, stepping down is harsh. But when you’re in a PUBLIC OFFICE the consequences become a bit more severe. Shame on all Republicans and Democrats who can’t keep their personal lives clean.
Hey, Bill Clinton (sometimes known as President Clinton, and other names) got away with it, so why shouldn’t AG Dann? After all, if the highest position in the land says that it all depends on what you call ’sex’, then Dann should definitely be in the clear!
The problem is that (with the exception of Kaisch, Blackwell and Pryce) Out (Ohio) Republicans aren’t much better. I mean if you didn’t see the R after his name, you’d think that Senator sonofavitch was a D.
Of course, Traficant and Dann come from the same bastion of wholesome liberal values - Youngstown… sadly, the place where I grew up and still work.
Ted (”Teddy the Love Gov”, I forget who coined that, wasn’t me) Strickland’s reaction should come as no surprise to anyone. Just consider his vote on the APA/pedophilia resolution in the House. Also consider his voter fraud/tax fraud dance (video with info at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EABS4P0kVCo&eurl=).
I hold out some hope that Ohio voters will realize before 2010 that corruption pervades all parties, and that we can get a governor - and a state legislature - that has at least some clue what it’s doing and get this state’s act together.
But I don’t hold out much hope…
Maybe this is hoe Ohio’s way of keeping immigrant vaginas happy for May Day
(see today’s lead story ” My immigrant vagina is angry” and other militant May Day moments)
hello no he doesn’t step down, he gets removed from office, hung and quartered. Guarantee you we start punishing these worthless dick’s and it will stop, one way or the other…but NO, we don’t want to hurt anyones esteem or hold then accountable. What BS.
What’s wrong with Ohio?
Well, it was a key battleground state. For the most part, you had Southern (Ohio) conservatives and Northern (Ohio) liberals. The strongholds were Cincinnati and Cleveland, respectively.
Thanks to the overall disintegration of the GOP (poor leadership), we lost the war. Now we’re blue from top to bottom.
