Subsidizing gangs to gang-bang?
I thought the D.C. police had won the liberal lunacy award of the week with their Orwellian crime-fighting strategy of renaming gangs “crews.”
Los Angeles may edge them out, though.
Fox 11 reports that tax dollars in L.A. meant for gang prevention went to hardened gang criminals. That’s right. City anti-gang money is going to convicted criminal gang-bangers who are hired as “gang intervention” specialists–while continuing their criminal activity.
The conduit? L.A. City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, who justifies the public pay-offs to gang members as a way to “keep the peace.”

There’s a very angry part of me that thinks a bullet between they’re eyes would be cheaper.
The sarcastic side of me then wonders between who’s eyes – the gangbangers or the dimwitted libs who think bribery and a blind eye is an enlightened way.

An LAPD officer called in to John and Ken today (KFI 640 AM for those not here near fun city). He said he stopped a guy in Watts wearing the Grape Street Crips colors. Before he got out of the car he stated he was a Gang Interventionist. He repeated several times he worked with Hahn’s office.

Let me understand this: paying off gang members to keep the peace? Sounds like the old-fashioned protection racket- “As long as you keep paying me ‘protection money’ I’ll make sure nothing ‘bad’ happens to you.”
This confirms something I’ve suspected for quite awhile. In order to be a politician, in this day and age, your intelligence and common sense levels have to be pretty low. That, and corrupted morals, makes one successful in office.

If Janice Hahn is worth her salt she will get a percentage of the money paid to gangies as a kick back. Perhaps the Mayor has his snout in this same trough and if not then some other kick back venue. L.A. smacks of Mexican government caliber corruption but where is Eliot Ness. Al Capone must be dancing in the street, where ever he now resides, because corruption and crime are now city council revenue streams. Only in Mexico (and by definition L.A. and perhaps Chicago). The land of the free and home of the paid.
No doubt there should be a full investigation by the FBI. Will there be one? Most of us on this site (except the trolls) know the answer to this no-brainer.

lgm, it is amusing how often you get your facts ‘misconstrued’. I was in Iraq. There were WMDs (mustard gas), and WMD material prepared for manufacture of WMDs within months. What is surprising is that the Bush/Rumsfeld administration did such an abysmal job telling folks about it. Of course, the MSM was prepared to not pay attention, but – it was there. We do not know what was convoyed to Syria – in the convoy a lawyer told us not to hit. We do know that everything was in place to produce WMD within months, and that there were artillery shells prepared for bi-chemicals found. IF you ignored all of the data not reported by MSM, I forgive you your ignorance. IF you discounted it due to your belief in MSM rather than ‘ground-truth’, I indict you as one of the masses who bought the “Bush Lied!” ignoramuses. Oliver North was convicted of a felony. His conviction was overturned not because he was found innocent, but because the court held that he had in effect confessed to the crime in testimony he have under immunity.
In other words, he is a convicted felon whose conviction was overturned on a technicality, the kind of technicality people here rail about here. I’m not saying he should go to jail. But he should not be held up as an upstanding citizen.

Did you then miss the part where police officers Chuck Garcia and Ryan Moreno who worked as gang officers for 10 years claim that gang intervention workers were getting paid to help stop gang violence but were part of the problem and not really stopping anything?

Being in a gang is not a crime. We have a Bill of Rights to protect that. It is the crimes that need to be addressed. Better people who understand the problem as it exists to help solve the problem then when Laura Bush was set up to head anti-gang efforts.
Anecdotally, it sounds believeable to me that Janice Hahn would engage such dumb behavior. She wins the prize for being the dumbest member of the City Council on a consistent basis – which is saying something since there are some olympic quality idiots on the Council.
