Elizabeth Wurtzel (”Obama’s Other Radical Friends,” op-ed, May 2) can be forgiven her youthful fascination with radical bomber Bernardine Dohrn. We all have ideas at 15 that seem silly from the perspective of middle age. Barack Obama’s reported close relationship with Ms. Dohrn and Bill Ayers is much more troubling and raises legitimate questions about his judgment and maturity.
In a 33-year law-enforcement career I had occasion to arrest many charming criminals. One of the most engaging was a California radical, rapist and prison escapee associated with the Symbionese Liberation Army (remember them?) who was living in Louisiana. When, after an intensive undercover investigation, I confronted him with his true name, he stuck out his hand and said “You must have talked to them in Oakland.” Indeed I had, and what I learned was chilling.
From all accounts, Mr. Ayers and Ms. Dohrn are equally charming. That does not nullify their crimes. Placing a bomb is one of the most evil of acts because the effects of a bomb are totally indiscriminate and incredibly devastating. Just ask a young Iraq War veteran who will live the rest of his or her life minus body parts. Just ask the families of those killed by Timothy McVeigh in the Federal Building in Oklahoma City.
There is little moral difference between Mr. Ayers and Ms. Dohrn and McVeigh. Timothy McVeigh was simply a less charming individual and a more successful bomber. He received just punishment for his crime. Mr. Ayers and Ms. Dohrn did not.

Eventually, the CACF was viewed as a failure (the final report says it had “little impact”) – what did Obama learn from that?
Finally, there is a question of shared values; setting aside Ayers’ bomb-tossing proclivities of the 70’s, he has a very hard left approach to education; for example, he explained to Hugo Chavez and a Venezuelan audience that public education was a way to promote the revolution…How much of this did Obama know then? Or is this just another situation, as with Jeremiah Wright, where Obama simply didn’t know anything about the fellow with whom he was associating?

Disgusting. Between Wright and Ayers, this Obama is still in the running for President? It’s amazing how far down our country has fallen. Seems the only thing a lot of voters care about, is not about character, but about “how much entitlement will I get from this candidate?” That and only that.

This photo show the absoulte hypocracy of liberal America bashers. If Mr. Ayers feels this way, then he is free to leave. But why doesn’t he? Because he could not get away with bashing another country in that country and make a wonderful living out of it.

While we all have associations of which we’re not proud, we don’t all claim they are part of us, or call them “mentors”.
Actually, I like the fact that this picture came out. It show, AGAIN, the VERY poor judgement of Barack HUSSEIN Obama shows in choosing his friends and “mentors”.
Just as well I can’t go to link from work. I have been having computer problems all morning and all I need is something else to get the old “Tasmanian Devil” I keep fairly well suppressed spinning this morning. From what I gather it is another bit of performance art designed to show how oppressive this country is to voices of decent.
If this dyed in the wool communist anarchist type wants to really experience the benefits of the People’s Revolutionary Movement why doesn’t he just relocate to the People’s Republic of China or North Korea. I think we could even get enough of us to pitch in to by him and his fellow terrorist bride one way tickets to either destination.
Sausage being a British subject you probably don’t understand how seriously we yanks take this little piece of cloth and all it stands for.
I wish we had an honest press that would help MM and others to keep stuff like this in the public’s eye. We just can’t let Obummer be our next POTUS, because he simply doesn’t have this country’s saftey and welfare at heart. He’s shown me this by whom he’s chosen to associate with, Rev Wrong and Ayers, and his willingness to “talk” with Iran.
Why are people like this allowed to remain in the US? If they hate the US so much – LEAVE! The fact is, it wouldn’t matter where they lived, they are just hate-filled people who want to destroy, and any excuse will do.

Everyone should read the article about Ayers that was published in the NY Times on September 11, 2001 in which Ayers says he is not sorry about bombing the Pentagon or NYPD Hdqrs. or any of the other places where they tried to kill and maim people. Alan Colmes, the sorry spectacle on Fox News, says that there is nothing special about the Ayers quotes being published on September 11, 2001. But to the broader point, Ayers and Dohrn gave their children Muslim/Arab names. These two are undoubtedly supportive of militant Arab causes, something the MSM does not wish to investigate. This subject is fertile ground for any journalist who wants to dig in.

I must say…Obama’s constant defense of his relationships with certain individuals is reminiscent of a past president who was constantly quizzed regarding some of his “relationships.” I seem to remember an interview on 60 Minutes where then Mrs. Clinton said, if you don’t “trust” him don’t vote for him.
Aaahhh…but of course, some voted for him only to be shocked by his behavior with a certain intern in OUR oval office. I do hope we have learned a valuable lesson – where there is smoke there is fire and scratch this radical nutjob off the ballot!

The difference is pretty clear. One is meant to hurt people or damage someone else’s property. Burning a flag does neither of those things.
One of the reasons I think, even in my liberal mindset, that America > Europe is because of our great respect for free speech. Mohawk writes of flying his Confederate flag. Flying the colors of a defeated enemy isn’t allowed in some European countries. Nor is Holocaust denial.
Nazi flags and Holocaust denial are clearly boorish and stupid and terrible. But we still let people who have those beliefs talk about them. That principle applies to flag burning as well. Just because most don’t like it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be protected.

The connection between Obama and Ayers is that they live in the same neighborhood and sometimes sit in the same room. Fox has the extra tidbit that Ayers contributed $200 to Obama’s campaign. Ayers never has been convicted of a crime.
Did you cover the Republican Congressman who gave a speech at a local branch of the US NAZI party? Did you post the picture of the Congressman posing in front of the swastika? Did you rant about McCain accepting the endorsement of a man he had called (rightly) an “agent of intolerance”?

abstractmind, I’m by no means arguing that the North didn’t have their share of problems. Lincoln’s pre-1863 views on shipping slaves back and his suspension of habeus corpus are nothing to be proud of.
The American casualties list is obviously a bit stacked since it counts people on both sides of the lines. But I don’t see where I said something that was inaccurate.
Although American history is of great interest to me, it also represents a bit of a threadjack so maybe I should pipe down for a bit.
I did indeed. In the same story, it was blatant, and stated, that the Republican party there disavowed him, and doesn’t endorse, sponsor, or assist him in any way. He claims the R, but it doesnt claim him. And no one else should either. But you forgot to mention the denial part, because it doesnt support your argument or world view. Be honest, when you put something like that out there, if you dont mind.The other 2, I would need to see the story again, not familiar.
No matter how you cut it, all of the people running for POTUS aren’t worth a wooden nickel. But the more one looks at Obama, the worse he appears. There’s more than enough proof he’s not qualified for the job. But then again, neither is Hillary. McCain has the experience, but…I don’t trust him to do the job.
So what does that leave us?

Given the context, it may well have been a humanitarian gesture. How many really wanted to return to Africa as opposed to being slaves in the United States? Certainly he knew the Southern states would be a hostile environment for freed slaves.
Just as today we hear “What do we do with all the illegal aliens?”, then Lincoln would hear “What do we do with all the freed slaves?”

Sending slaves back to Africa, based on the fact that many were sold into slavery by tribes that conquered them in battle, would have been a death sentence. The moment they got home, they’d have been slaughtered.

As you undoubtedly know, after the war those former slaves who wished to go returned to Africa, and founded Liberia. But it was strictly voluntary.
Problem is, these people really don’t know much about history, and you can’t really get into much discussion with them without getting into it to some degree.

This story and the last one on the murdered officer are loosely linked together. For about 30 years the authorities and that’s means the police, lawyers, judges, juries and politicans have been creating the atmosphere that encourages this type of behavior. They have looked the other way as these people rampaged through the streets anytime they pleased they still are. This sadly is a chickens (liberal chickens) coming home to roost moment like we see more of each and every day. The liberals have created a monster right under Americans noses and many citizens through ignorance or apathy have allowed it to get to this point. Our leaders have allowed people to come here and stay that hate our guts. They have looked the other way more often than not. How do ya’ll feel about that? No doubt, but as the other poster noted Liberia did become a country of former slaves. But no solution was without problems. And as we have seen it has taken a long time for all wounds to heal.
But if we want to talk about the evils of the past, lets go no further than the founder of the Democratic Party – Andrew Jackson. He destroyed an Indian tribe in Mississippi and literally stole their land for himself. Then he “bought” 100 slaves to farm that land. Later as the populist president campaigning for “change”, he sent the settled Cherokee Indians on the “Trail of Tears” so that Georgians could steal the gold found on their land.

Burn or step on a US flag in front of me or within my sight, Rick Monday’s act will seem like Sunday School. I promise! Wright & Obama, Ayers & Obama… has this country set the bar so low that this defines a serious presidential candidate? I was just reading over at HOT AIR that Obama got the teamsters endorsement because of a back room deal he’s made with them to end their federal oversight if elected. believe you me…i’m part cherokee. I learned well the history lesson of the Trail of Tears. Approximately 4000 Cherokee died during that process. Jackson originally signed the act that made the removal possible, but the law was enforced by Martin Van Buren later, including his orders to have Cherokee placed in concentration camps before having them forcibly moved.
The total deaths indicated were greater than those of 9/11.
But that tends to be forgotten, sadly.
