This comment is directed toward those who are hot for McCain, using the argument "any vote not for McCain is effectively cast against him."

NB:
because I'm not at home -- I'm surfing using my PDA, which has only a limited input buffer -- I'm only able to hit the high points.

I remember early on, when Conservatives were grumping about <strike>a$$hat</strike>McCain, warning those who'd listen that his entire past history argued against trusting him -- he has a history of proudly lying to people's faces.

The McCainanites mount a few major arguments, with a lot of circular logic about him having heard the people & promising to do the people's will. Overlooking, of course, that 6mo. previous he'd called those very people all the names from ignorant (the kindest) to bigoted native-ists (the harshest).

The major arguments of those supporting McCain were:
he'd "heard us on the fence"
     he'd appoint conservative judges
he is pro-national security & defense
     he's fiscally conservative
     he's fought for pro-life causes
     he's honest (?)
Oh, and of course -- he's promised

There are others that don't surface as often. Others are actually justifications for a point included above. "He's a war hero" is one such.

The Fence, the border, & national security:
Well, I think Michelle and others have completely punctured the "he'll build the fence" canard. And to those who say: "make him promise, then hold him to it!" How, exactly, would we do that? Do you remember how hard it was to get congress to standup to the less, shall we say, conservative notion's of GWB's?

Do you know why? Because, due to the structure of the Republican party, the President -- when a Republican -- is the head of the party. Go against him, and you might not get your funding... all the more important since CFR.

An aside:
This ability to use funds to either punish opponents or "buy the election" of allies explains why GWB fought so hard for people like Chaffe, pouring tons of money into his bid, insuring his win in September 2005, against Stephen Laffey, (endorsed by the Club for Growth, and other 3-legged Conservatism organizations...). At the time Chaffe credited his win to independents & disaffected Dumocrats. It also explains why, the critical 4 days prior to the election, the RNC pulled all funding from Senator Santorum. Santorum was well know to oppose GWB pet projects, such as the drug program and NCLB. This was done even though Santorum had seriously wounded himself by throwing his support - along with GWB behind Arlen Spector, (another RINO). I remember the news reports that all the media spots Santorum had purchased set for those critical 4 days were defunded. The reason given was a lack of funds, that Santorum was "Safe", and Chaffe needed the funding. From this you can see the wisdom of acting against the President's interest when he heads your party. NB: I know this is a long aside, but I think it sheds some valuable light on the matter...

If you think that McCain meant that he'd build the fence, why? Look at those with who surrounds himself & who he demeans & castigates. The Race he loves, the most Liberal of Progressive Dems' buttocks he finds kissing-sweet. His party, the Conservative movement, the American people generally and those who believe in National Sovereignty -- these are those for whom he has no use for. By his own words, they are bigots, hates, etc. He calls himself a conservative, a follower of the fine conservative tradition. What needs to understood is when using this label, saying he was a "Reagen Foot-soldier", it is his little contemptuous joke on those too young to remember his past antics.

Conservative Judges
People are very fond of telling me that we don't really know McCain's heart -- he's heard us, after all, he'll be afraid of bucking the American People. And, he's promised to nominate conservative judges... at least they'll be more conservative than those picked Hillary or B.O.

These people have a point, of course. Johnny did promise to pick conservative judges for SCOTUS --- just not as conservative as are Alito, Roberts, or Thomas. They are too (nasty? evil? ... no its) conservative. And seeing the chains that CFR has put on the members of his party, who will push him to the right? Or, (as I think is more the likely,) will he simply respond as he did when confronted about his insistence on keeping the "Social Security for Illegals" provision in his Grand Amnesty bill with "Ch!ck@nsh!t!!" Which brings us to the next point.

McCain is Fiscally conservative
Overlooking for the moment that earmarks are a drop-in-the-bucket compared with the Social Security/Medicaid/freebies for illegals, for McCain's true outlook on fiscal policy & taxation I have only 1 word: McCain-Lieberman. There are more examples, but this is getting overlong for a post on someone else's blog.

For the Pro-life cause, look here:http://hotair.com/archives/2008/01/22/audio-laura-ingraham-slams-mccain-on-the-wisconsin-right-to-life-case/

and:

http://www.stoptheaclu.com/archives/2008/02/03/mccains-pro-life-credentials-questioned/
(with a bonus: StopTheACLU includes the observation that McCain' consistent stand is against free political speech...)

or:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1793339/posts

On McCain's Word:(via his oath-of-office), I suggest McCain-Fiengold: an attack on the 1st Amendment.

For the view he's strong on the WOT, we can discuss that after he closes Gitmo, mainstreaming the prisoners there into our civil legal system. We'll get the fun of paying the Jihadists for their trouble by paying for their endless appeals and the damages for the time we kept them from their Jihad. After that, they can run off again & blowup more of our people. This while he downsizes the Armed Forces...(look it up yourself, I'm doing enough of your work for you as it is...).

Lastly, Dishonest John's Honesty. Well, if we discount the Keating Five, where the money made was $350k+, (as opposed to Clinton's piker $100k), we have Romney's Early Iraq Withdrawal lie. You can argue that it is a small thing, but I consider a man's good name no small thing. What else will we find from a man who would win at any cost?

I've noticed that, as McCain's position has drifted from its forced left-middle to his favorite place (where his best-buds: Kennedy &et al. are), left-left, the pro-<strike>a$$hat</strike>McCain people use 3 main methods of argument: endless repetition of discredited arguments, FUD, and the "shrinking goalposts". The "Shrinking goalpost" method is simply, every time your candidate commits an action that dumps one of your pro-points for him, you quickly acknowledge it, while at the same time minimizing it as part of the platform.

Now it would seem that this would eventually cause the candidate's platform to waste-away. What prevents this is the regeneration that is the other half of the method. For simple example, McCain will build the fence, "Damn it!"... but he has a big-wig from the Reconquesta movement as a good buddy. Well, he's strong on the WOT! He really understands that! Until he puts his foot in his mouth about Gitmo. Well, McCain will appoint originalist judges! Until he sponsors another bit that attacks the 1st, 2nd, etc., Amendment... Well, did you know, He's gonna build the fence!

Well there are my comments of this donnybrook, and why we who stand on principle will never see eye-to-eye with the McCaininites. I know it is long, may Ms Malkin forgive the length of it. I've tried to cut it down, but my PDA has a terrible editor, and a worse browser.

I will do my part to ensure this TRAITOR is not elected president.

Then we can relegate him to television ads for DEPENDS.

Every day, he reminds me more and more of a used one.

Crash/burn '08 = pick up pieces '12.

Conservatives intact.
