Obama and Hillary’s Ethanol Flip-Flop
Michelle noted below that the Obamessiah switches cars like the FBI was tailing him, trading his stylin’ Chrysler 300 for a Ford Escape Hybrid because of political mileage concerns. He must really love those things because in August 2006, he was already driving a “Flexible Fuel Vehicle” GMC Envoy, and admits he favors SUV’s himself.
Is that just two cars, or more? Because I’m starting to see why needed that adjoining lot from Tony Rezko–parking his stable of eco-toy cornburners. Noted an Obama flack at the time of the Envoy sighting:
The SUV in question, though, is a Flexible Fuel Vehicle that can run on E85, which the Senator fills it with wherever its available (and in fact he’s worked very hard to provide tax credits to increase availability and access to e85).
But not for long, friends. Obama and Hillary have both switched gears, realizing that burning our amber waves of grain has led to food shortages and smuggling all around the globe. Here’s Obama telling NBC that he was wrong about subsidies–well, without actually saying that, of course:
“What I’ve said is, my top priority is making sure people are able to get enough to eat. If it turns out we need to make changes in our ethanol policy to help people get something to eat, that has got to be the step we take,” said Mr. Obama on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
“We have rising food prices around the United States. In other countries, we’re seeing riots because of the lack of food supply, so this is something we’re going to have to deal with,” the Illinois Democrat said.
Hillary jumped on the dump-ethanol bandwagon as well:
“What we need to do is accelerate the research into farm waste and into other cellulosic plant materials. Because, I think, instead of using the corn, let’s figure out if we can use the corncob,” she said.
Well, there’s a whole new Democratic slogan right there. Please tell me there’s video.
P.S. First commenter to make a Sheryl Crow joke gets BANNED! Unless it’s really good.
BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: THIS JUST IN: Given the new-found unpopularity of ethanol, Obama and long-time supporter Bill Ayers have teamed up to announce that the Obama campaign will now travel in new hybrid SUV’s powered by burning American flags.

And try to figure out what the Democrats are smokin’ in it.
Lance Armstrong should begin work on his inaugural address.
Will we see a clarification about Obama’s campaign SUVs? That the Secret Service requires the candidates to use them?
Use of any food for fuel additives or bio-fuel is in my opinion just plain criminal.
In general I understand that producing biofuel may actually use more energy than the fuel produces.
Making biodiesel from waste materials may be the way to go.
This post is about what are apparently his private SUV’s, Mookie. Unless they’re loaners or something. But these choices have nothing to so with the secret service.
I have a great suggested use for he corncob invloving Democrats. However, given the fact that their heads might be taking up all the available space, we may have to go to Plan B.
The eco-mob must be GNASHING their collective teeth as they try to Re-wicker their argument. And not unlike changing the label Global Warming to Climate Change.
Yep, these two bozos were standing in the corn fields behind my apartment here in Johnston Iowa praising ethanol. They will say ANYTHING to get votes. They have the spine of a tooth pick.
I don’t want to start paying in the double digits for my corncob pipes! Of course, Hillary and Obama would increase the taxes on eeevil tobacco so much that it would be moot anyway. Oh well…I still have my cigars, right?…anyone?…Bueller?
When contacted for comment, Sheryl Crow said “One corn cob I can deal with, but thank goodness we’re not talking rice.”
hrobusto:
Make the switch.
Alchohol can be distilled from other things besides corn. Switch grass is one example. Another possibility is the corn stalk.
I think a better way to go is, DRILL HERE!
The fact that Hillary said that shows how ignorant she is of the process. The cellulosic conversion of a corncob into ethanol is simply energy inefficient. And has anyone calculated how much more fuel is used because of ethanols lower energy? Ethanol only makes sense if made from sugar cane.
Come on Michelle, we REALLY need to set up a contest for this one. ROFLMAO. This is too rich to pass up.
#10
So long AlohaGuy. Been nice knowing ya.
I expent commodity prices on corn cobs to go through the roof. Sepculators are all over this. How many shares does hc have in corn cobs stocks?
L
A vote for her is a vote for Universal Corncobs.
No cob left behind!
Think of all the trees we can save if we replace TP with corncobs. Or, we could burn them in steam powered cars. All that steam would raise the humidity levels enough to start our own rain forests.
“accelerate the research into farm waste …”
OK, I am from the city & I must admit that I don’t really know what “farm waste” is…
however I DO know that I won’t vote for it.
!!??
Hillarys still trying to get hers removed!
Thi sis typical Liberal flip flopping… i was for it before i was against it, but once i say your point i was for it agian but when i herad her point i was againist it again…
This is because liberals are always three steps ahead. The trouble being that the world is happening three steps back. Most of the time when they reach their three step ahead destination the world has changed so they end up six steps back and on the wrong path to boot. They are a threat to the entire planet.
Well I guess using corn stalks for decoration this Halloween is out too. Another institution bites the dust.
Too late. The $20Billon farm subsidy bill for this year already passed the Senate.
Mixer–
You couldn’t by any chance find a link to the voting results on that, could you?
We have plenty of oil, plenty of coal, technology for safe nuclear energy. What don’t we have? No frickin guts to go get it and say to hell with those who say we shouldn’t.
O/T, See-Dubya, What, No Cinco De Mayo post?
I’m not going to make any Cheryl Crow jokes… but there’s got to be a Bill Clinton/Lewinsky poor-taste joke in here somewhere….
But I’M not going to be the first….
Before the ethanol mandates, how many conservatives said it was a bad idea to turn food into fuel?
And remember how we were dismissed as earth-hating gas guzzlers?
Now riots, starvation, soaring food prices…wow.
We need politician with enough nerve to stand up to the NIMBYs and BANANAs and start drilling for domestic oil and building refineries here in the United States.
JR, then i will!
Bill says corncobs dont make good cigars, but CERTAINLY do for pipes for back in Arkansas..because thats how its done back in the country
Heh.
If only we could run our cars on hypocrisy, then the government might actually be able to take care of this problem…
Sorry Dave from Flint but rotting vegetation is the second leading cause of carbon emissions behind only the oceans. We all know the liberals like it rotten so the more trees we save the more pollution we have. Now if we trade trees for liberals we might finally see some progress. Save the planet, use excess TP. If we take the liberal view that man is destroying the planet and GW will destroy man then I would think they would support more of it. Anthropologic induced global warming, the stuff that dreams are made of.
TGusa #33….
To quote Monty Python….
“My Brain Hurts”
A spoonful of rotting vegetation will fix you right up jrlingreenbay. Plus theres a bonus you will be helping the planet get over its fever.
Where does the Sheryl Crow reference come from?
I’ve got a NEWS FLASH for most of you!!
****NEWSFLASH******
Jesus Obama and Hillary Rodham have about as much interest in GREEN as they do in watching old Ronald Reagan movies.
They will say anything to anyone at anytime to gain power and elected office. Neither Obama nor Rodham have any idea what stresses and struggles day to day Americans face. They don’t care. Jesus O’ and Rodham are FOR anything that GROUP X is for. Tomorrow they will be against anything GROUP Y is against. They are going to lower GAS PRICES, Bring Peace to the Middle East, they are going to put 2 chickens in every pot, and 2 pots on every stove.
Both Jesus Obama and Rodham are going to cure TOOTH DECAY by stopping TAX CUTS for the RICH.
Who are the RICH you ask???? The RICH are those who don’t vote for Jesus or Rodham.

It would appear the final vote is coming in the next few weeks.
See-Dub — Mixer must have stepped away, but here’s the link to the bill. It’s for $286B through 2012, and includes subsidies for farmers — regardless of need. I’m sure there are some good things in there — haven’t waded through the whole thing — but a number of proposed amendments to try to plug some of the waste were shot down. Passed the House (231-191) in July; the Senate (79 - 14)on 12/14/07. (I’m sure everyone can guess who didn’t vote!)
If Rodham REALLY believed the pap that she spews, we’d see her down at the Edward Jones office turning a $1,000 CORN COB FUTURES buy into $100,000 tout suite.
Hell, give her 15 minutes and she’ll come up with a “PLAN” to stop us from importing all that Middle Eastern Corn Cob.
Lan Astaslem - Thanks! Couldn’t find the bill - just the vote.
Hey Mixer! Sorry… I thought you were gone, and tried to help out.
Other famous flip-flops:
Nation Building — Bush was against it before he was for it
Torture — McCain was against it before he was for it
Conservative Christian “leaders” (Robertson, Dobson, Hagee, ..) — McCain was against them (agents of intolerance) before he was for them.
Bush tax cuts — McCain thought they were irresponsible (which is how he got a reputation as a maverick) until he started running for President.
Shia leaders allied with Iran and Hezbollah — Bush was against them until one was elected Prime Minister of Iraq.
On this blog, Republicans get to flip flop like a netted fish but Democrats chisel whatever they say in stone like Hamurabi.
EnglishQueen01 said “We need politician with enough nerve to stand up to the NIMBYs and BANANAs and start drilling for domestic oil and building refineries here in the United States.”
You forgot the CAVE people. “Citizens against virtually everything.”
A corncob is like a bigger, thicker cigar. Seems to me that Hillary has an expert in her camp already.
Where I grew up, that would be the corn silks. Just do not tell the Swiss!
Thanks for the eco-laugh See-Dubya … I needed that! LOL
Is lgm having some sort of ACID flashback or something. The boy isn’t well.
Man if Rodhams thighs could be used instead of corn, we’d be sitting pretty.
Well not pretty, but we’d have plenty o’fuel.
All joking aside, did anyone else see this article on corncobs? It doesn’t advocate using them as fuel, but says we can use them to store natural gas at high density and low pressure, making natural gas a viable fuel alternative. Cool, no? Like having little corncob fuel tanks, I guess.
Or we could just use them to make pens… I think that these are very cool, actually!
lgm,
enough with the Christian bashing already. That is two threads now.
That pen is really cool.
Thanks, Mixer and Lan Astaslem. Should have known none of the candidates had the cojones to take a stand on the issue.
So much for thinking “outside the box”. I like the box. The box exists for a reason. In this case, the box is the fact that oil works as a fuel. Corn works as a food source. Turning food into fuel doesn’t make sense; it has never made sense; those who think it is the answer to energy independence are the same people who believe paying farmers not to farm is a good idea.
Am I the only person here who actually raises corn? The government is not paying farmers not to farm.
Until the mid nineties the government paid farmers to leave a small percentage of their land idle. We planted small grains on those fields and kept them mowed during the summer. As I recall we left about 20 acres out of 450 acres idle.
That ended after 1996 or so. The government no longer pays farmers to idle good farm land. Another program, the CRP does. Only farm land which is suseptable to erosion, is flood prone or otherwise not as productive as normal land can be planted to grass or trees and collect rent from the government for ten years or so. It is good for the environment and for wild animals.
One fear of local environmentalists and hunters is the high price of corn will drive CRP land back under the plow, so to speak.
Until recently, farmers have received a pittance from the market and the government has made up the difference to help keep food cheap.
Farmers are suffering from high oil prices too. Nitrogen fertilizer cost around $150 to $200 a ton, but now is close to $750. Roundup herbicide has risen from about $6.00 per acre last year to $20.00.
I think switch grass is a superior biomass fuel once it can be efficiently refined.
C’mon guys, you know that when lgm has no legitimate response, he just tries to point out how regardless of how the Dems are bad guys, the Republicans are bad guys too.
This is, by the way, the funniest thing I’ve read all day. Problem is, now we’ll be dependent upon Berkeley AND the Middle East for fuel, if we go this route. They have the corner on that technology.
No, ethanol makes terrific sense. What makes no sense is burning perfectly good moonshine.
Well, I’m disappointed. Corn cob makes great tumbling media for those nasty range pick-ups.
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=541305&t=11082005
When will the country realize that the statement “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help” is in no way, shape, or form comforting? You want lower food prices, more and cheaper energy, and sustained economic growth? Laisse faire - leave us alone!
Hey #4,bear…
You’re right.
They’re trying to make biodiesel from algae, and of course, you can convert biodiesel from used cooking oil or animal fats. In fact one of our best batches of fuel we got here at work was a load of pork tallow.
Starts to comment and thinks better of it. And video of it? ewww
I’ll give you bonus points for the Hamurabi comment, but thats all.
We could sit here and type these kind of flip flops until our fingers bled, but what purpose does that serve?
I want you, just ONCE to condemn something like this as being WRONG, and take off the “well, if its a democrat, I have to defend” hat for just a minute.
If you were genuine about issues like this and really had something constructive to say, you would refute wrongdoing, no matter who it is.
But that’s asking too much, right? We don’t need truth, or honesty, or a desire to call WRONG what is WRONG…we just need to say “Well…but, but, but, but….these others do it to.”
Instead of finger pointing like a small child, try that approach instead. You’ll find that I take people to task, regardless of their politics, when I think they are in the wrong.
When you start doing that, you’ll find people will listen a bit more than they do now, because you’re moving from the fingerpointing, kindergarden style posting, to something of substance that’s worth a good debate.
And I personally don’t consider torture a bad thing in all instances.
Yeah, because we’re all about the McCain love on this blog.
ROLMAO
Biofuels are beginning to be recognized in many parts of the world as a crime against humanity. We need a Nuremberg type of tribunal to try Hillary, Obama, and Willie Nelson, but we can’t do that because we would end up with the unpatriotic Juan McCain as president. What a dilemma.
ROFLMAO was laughing to hard was unable to type…LOL
There once was a legitimate use for corn cobs - back in the days of the outhouse, before toilet paper. Could we use them to rub politicians today and wipe them off of us? Rough as H@@@, but gets the job done.
If you were wrong to begin with, is flip-flopping bad? I mean, supporting ethanol is now clearly a dumb thing to have done. Is changing your mind when it’s clear that you were wrong flip-flopping? There must be some space between pandering and stupidly sticking to your ideas, especially if it’s over an empirical issue (i.e., the effects of tying grain prices to oil prices; the efficiency of ethanol-fuel production), and not over a theoretical issue (that finding clean fuel is a good idea).
#61 LMAO, how about a spew warning next time.
So lets talk about tackling something hard, like bringing back DDT now that it’s been proved that the lies told by the nutcase psuedo-scientist Rachel Carson were just made up.
Estimates range up to 50 million black African children has to die for this liberal lie.
WHO authorized limited DDT use in 2006, it should now go full scale. How many more black kids need to die before the liberal relent.
In fact, does anybody know anything liberals have done that stood the test of time?
Nice pen! This is a much more constructive way to use a corn cob than Sheryl Crow would do.
By the way, every time I hear Sheryl Crows name, I get all icky feeling.
Yo, CW, have you read page 6 of the June issue of Popular Mechanics?
Liberal Lie MTBE safer than Ethanol….
This was one heck of a doozy pushed by Feinie and Boxer with relatively no research done as to its enviro effects… and then, opsie…contaminates ground water, back to Ethanol.
How much did that cost us ladies?
Politiking at its worst.
abstractmind: the reason is that the sins of Democrats are presented as though they disqualify the Democrat from office. Obama’s flip on ethanol is a great example. What bugs me is that the greater sins of Republicans don’t disqualify them from office. It’s not that the Democrats are without sin, but that the Republicans are the greater sinners.
If a tree fell on Lgm in the woods and no one was around…would there be a sound?
Just curious….
Problem solved: convert Congress to biodiesel…lotta pork tallow in that hole. soooooiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Oh LGM. Boo freakin hooo. The Dhimmicrats have the ignominious distinction of losing twice to the worst Republican candidate in recent memory. LMAO
And now the GOP is serving up a cadaver and the Dhimmicrats are still going to lose.
Ya have to get into office before you can be disqualified FROM office.
Obama’s stand on corn is irrelevant. If he was for it or against who cares? He is an idiot without a platform, as is the Pig In A Pant Suit.
I am under the impression that ethanol and biodiesel are different. Biodiesel has been made from used cooking fats and the original engine that Diesel made ran I believe on peanut oil. Does anyone know if biodiesel can be made from non food products?
Hey Hillary,
Why not use the corn cob as a suppository. It would then be very difficult to talk out of your *ss.
Bear on bear communication in progress….
to my knowledge it can be made from organic matter that can be refined into a food product…for example, a farm in Vermont uses raw sunflower seeds to make oil that can be converted.
ethanol is an alcohol based fuel made from corn. completely makes no sense in the age of 100 a barrel oil…and it is ruining the price of feed grains….of course, that is the libtard agenda…get rid of cars and carnivores.
Bear1909 out.
And pray tell what Ecclesiastic set of scales did you use to come to that conclusion?
And what set of sins are you using to compile your opinion?
If its about power and abuse, there ’s an FDR and Johnson for every Nixon and Bush.
If it’s about spending taxpayers’ money, there’s the raiding of the Social Security trust in 1966 to balance the budget under a Democrat Congress and the rasing of taxes to fund the Vietnam war (both Pres. Johnson) vs. the wild eyed spending that’s gone on for the past 8 years.
PS - Current Pork and Earmark King and Queen are Robert ‘KKK’ Byrd and Hillary ‘I can Outspend Aanybody’ Clinton.
Nobody is without sin - there are no virgins in Congress.
The problem is that the country club republicans in the RNC have gone completely DEAF to its conservative base who have been SCREAMING about the potential evils of biofuel since Carter first mentioned tinkering with the idea back in 1980. Our predictions are coming true and WHO turns around and grabs it? The libs! .. while idiots like McCain are left holding the bag as he and people like Newt are destined to do with the NEXT shoe to fall - AGW; another lie.
- lgm
Purely subjective statement.
Urg - I hate myself for wondering, but could you also use corn cobs for clean up after you’ve eaten corn?
What kills me about the push for alternate fuels, which can only be made “affordable” this far north of the equator through subsidies, is that nuclear power does everything that the global warming-mongers need, uh, only they’ve already decreed that we can’t use such a source.
Switchgrass is the magic solution to making all of this ethanol production cost effective, only they haven’t found the way to get the grass to directly convert into a alcholol yet….I should know this but don’t but I believe the corn is fermented to produce the alcohol? I guess switchgrass in it’s raw state doesn’t have fermentable sugars? I guess more “bad” science via genetically modified switchgrass is the solution, maybe the luddites will give us a free pass on this one…
Hey everyone, don’t mind LGM.
LGM thinks the terrorists in Iraq are patriots, that Islam really would leave the West alone if we left, and it’s okay if they kill women and children because LGM thinks it will make Bush look bad. Iraqi lives mean nothing to any and all democrats
LGM also thinks that conservatives stick to their guns and religion because of migrant labor
LGM also feels that everyone on this blog shouldn’t comment until we’ve seen the usual suspects in the MSM spin all the news to help get Obama elected so they can show how tolerant they are for helping a poor, widdle “Black” man who shuns his white heritage out of a false sense of guilt.
Just your average liberal who thinks he/she is the you-know-what because he/she comes to a place where opinions are far and away opposite but he/she MUST tell you his/her view because it’s right, and you wrong!
Just like some little high schooler on youtube or facebook.
ciao peeps!
