Obama’s sole venture into limited government: stopping the federal mob probe of the Teamsters
This is pretty juicy, I think. It’s in the Wall Street Journal news pages, but you have to get there through Google News.
Sen. Barack Obama won the endorsement of the Teamsters earlier this year after privately telling the union he supported ending the strict federal oversight imposed to root out corruption, according to officials from the union and the Obama campaign.
You know that Obama. He’s always looking for small-government solutions. Seriously, why would he want to drop the investigation of the Teamsters?
Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor confirmed the candidate’s position in a statement to The Wall Street Journal, saying that Sen. Obama believes that the board “has run its course,” because “organized crime influence in the union has drastically declined.” Mr. Vietor said Sen. Obama took that position last year.
Oh, well, then. The Teamsters’ full-throated endorsement of Obama had nothing to do with that.
I say it’s especially juicy because the Obamessiah and the Teamsters are both taking pains to deny it, and saying that Hillary does it too!
Tony Soprano was not available for comment.
In other Obama news, my little graphic about “Which terrorists support which Democratic presidential candidate?” earned lots of huffing, snorting, and eye-rolling amid the liberal blogs. Andrew Sullivan even nominated me for his coveted “Malkin Award”, which he awards to bloggers who are a bit emphatic for his refined Oxonian tastes. And someone else even described it as “red-baiting”.
With that in mind, I would caution the terminally sensitive not, under any circumstances, to follow this link to Nice Deb, who has compiled a list of “Reds Who Support Obama”.
So what, the comment trolls may ask. But in turn I’d ask them, why do you think it is that so many commies are backing Obama?
(I’d also ask them to remind me exactly what’s wrong with what they call “red-baiting.”)
If this list is somehow unfair, I invite you to compile a list of communists and socialists who are supporting McCain. Hey, I don’t like him either. But at least his interactions with communists have tended to be a bit more…adversarial.

I hope no one tries a list of illegal immigrants that support McCain. They’d run out of paper.
I like the way you put this, Dubya. What the heck is wrong with Red-Baiting? They (Reds) are diametrically opposed to our way of life and system of government, after all.
Which only underscores your question: why are they all behind Obama?
I say it is because they know his policies are closer to communism/socialism than pretty much any president we’ve ever had.

As a lawyer he doesn’t much discriminate where his fees come from. And like most politicians, all money talks regardless where it comes from…unless you’re caught.

It’s a shame this story won’t get any MSM coverage. People supporting him must be out of their mind, because a sane person wouldn’t even think of voting for this creep.

With a democrat Congress, hungry to tax and spend, and a rookie politician in the White House (or will Wright insist he change it to the Black House), look to see more damage than FDR years. Socialist countries will applaud and terrorists will smile.
We desperately need a young, conservative candidate to acquire the white house. I do think that McCain can beat either Democrat candidate, but do not believe that he can or would support conservative values. I specify young not as a counter to Obama but, rather, to eliminate those so heavily influenced by LBJ and the anti-government protests that have virtually ruined an entire generation of “conservative” politicians affectionately known on this site as RINOs (eg Bush and McCain). This is one of the dilemmas facing us today, in my opinion. To many conservatives, experience matters a great deal. However, an individual has to be of a certain age in order to gain verifiable experience. Almost all “conservative” politicians of a certain age have been adversely affected by liberalism during the LBJ and Nixon years. I believe that Gov Bobby Jindal is very promising; however, he is inexperienced.

the tape the teamsters have on Obama stating something along the lines of (paraphrased) ‘if you have friends in the whitehouse, you’ll see a difference in how these issues are approached’.
this is how the corrupt Chicagoland does business…after all, Obama’s not about change. now, you’ll note he stopped short of promising anything, but stepped out just enough to get solidarity.
I think the only thing we can hope for, as conservatives, is a good republican platform that comes out of the convention. Perhaps there will be enough rumblings that the delegates will have to come out with a conservative plan. So, until I can see the result, I’ll wait and hope, a forlorn hope perhaps. Voting this year is like going to my own execution…do I want the rope, the chair or the needle. Personally, given the choice, I’ll take the needle (McCain). Of course, either way, the result is the same. Maybe the convention will give us all conservatives “a reprieve”.
Rewarding illegal behavior while punishing the working class stiffs who pay the bills. Hope for change to what?
Damn I miss the good old days when you could get a nickel candy bar for a quarter and criminals of all manner still had to hide in the shadows.
And I see absolutely NO evidence to indicate to me that ANY of the candidates are any better … even with the appointments to SCOTUS.
I hate Teamsters pretty bad. My grandfather owned one of the largest trucking companies in northern New York in the 50’s and 60’s and the teamsters were blatant extortionists. They would demand payments of $10,000 or they’d shut his business down. Teamsters are scum and so is O’bama if he wants to take the heat of em’.
Liberals drive me crazy with their illogic. Crime is down, so we no longer need the oversight that created that successful result????
Global warming has drastically declined in the last decade too, so I guess we can drop all those programs as well.
Come to think of it, test scores have dropped even more than Teamster crime, so I suppose it’s finally time to abolish the Department of Education.

Of course the Malkin Award nominee mischaracterizes the news item. There is no ongoing “probe”. Obama is not obstructing justice. He’s calling for an end to government controls put on in the 70’s that have by now served their purpose.
It figures that the only institution the MM web site deems fit for government control is a labor union.
And speaking of mob activity, do you remember that a Republican fundraiser a few months ago was indicted for an actual mafia murder?

Thats like setting the speed limit lower in a residential area after a series of accidents, and then a year later upping the speed limit again since no one wrecked in 12 months.
But since we’re looking at outdated, dysfunctional things like this, can we address the tax codes too? By your logic, we could abolish the IRS and the ability government uses to take taxes out of my paycheck because they’ve collected taxes and I dont think they should anymore. They built a highway near my home, and since my taxes were used for it, I shouldnt have more removed since I know my tax dollars went for something already. See the fallacy in that argument?
