An early call on NC
We’ll see if this holds up: Blogger Bob Owens calls NC for Obama.
I just got off the phone with Mike Ash, Director of the Durham County Board of Elections in Durham, NC. He doesn’t have any numbers as far as percentages of eligible voters making it to the polls at this point, but said several polling locations have already hit record numbers. That is as of 11:30 AM. It appears that the record turnout in early voting on Sunday is expected to continue through today.
This matters because Durham is something of a bellwether of African-American voter turn-out in North Carolina. A high African-American turnout—and it appears that is indeed occurring—makes a Clinton win impossible.
At this point, the only thing worth discussing is Obama’s margin of victory here in the Tarheel State.
If you’re in NC, give us a shout-out nad let is know what you’re hearing/feeling.
***
Turnout is indeed high.
Will today be Obama’s Crackerquiddick rebound?

Naah, nothin’ racist about this election.
Wasn’t this a “given”? I expected him to carry NC, and Shrillary will take Indiana, and they’ll be right back at square one! Operation Chaos will continue, and McCain will have the freedom from the press interval to talk to La Raza, and not have it on the front page of the NYT.
After the 2004 general election, you’d think people would have the discipline to wait for real counts. Not us.
I am in NC and I am hearing that Obama will win. Well, that’s what a bloke down at the coffee shop said earlier…
I’m in Chapel Hill, NC. If the old saying of “whoever has the most signs up on election day will take the district” is true, Orange county is in the bag for Obama- in a BIG way. In downtown, the support is overwhelmingly for Obama. In the country towards Alamance county it’s closer to 1-1.
But then again, signs don’t equal votes, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Sausage – when you asked him about it – did he first say, “Can’t I just eat my waffle?”
If so – that may be a skewed viewpoint, albeit probably correct…
Vote Early! Vote Often! A vote for gender is racist and a vote for race is sexist and no matter who wins or who loses there are still court battles to be fought and riots to be had when “our” candidate loses.
Gotta love the Democrat process.
“A vote for gender is racist and a vote for race is sexist”
Does that mean that a write-in vote for
our lovely hostess is neither?
I’m in Charlotte but one thing I’ve learned so far this election cycle is to take nothing for granted. Heck, just six months ago, I was complaining about our late primaries and how by the time we get to vote, it won’t matter because the candidates will have already been chosen. Well, I was right on the Republican side but the Democrat side has turned out to be mighty interesting.
As for early calls, it’s just reading tea leaves at this point. Anyone who makes an early call is just guessing (or hoping depending on their personal agenda).
My early call…I mean, guess…Obama wins NC, Hillary wins Indiana. And we’re back to a knock-down, drag-out fight at the convention with the super-delegates.
“Super”-delegates…ha! Any of those who haven’t already made up their minds are the worst of the political opportunists. They’re fence-sitting cowards who just crave the media’s and candidates’ attention. The more the undecided super-delegates hold out, the more important they make themselves feel.
The stupid voters usually get what exactly what they want.
Well, I’m in Virginia, and if I look South toward NC I can see a flock of mallards in flight over John Edwards palace taking huge dumps and spelling “CHANGE” on his lawn. Seriously, in the state where the Duke U Lacrosse incident occurred, does it surprise anyone that Obamaramalamadingdong is doing well?
ahhh…but who are the dead, illegal, convicts voting for?…
In a logical and reasonable world that would be absolutely correct. However, just as many Asian students are not given affirmative action or even considered minorities due to the fact that their “test scores are too high” I think the libs would still find a way to make her out to be the racist in whatever passes for their sense of cognitive thought processing. As I recall, our beloved hostess has yet to be accepted to speak or perhaps even to attend the minority reporters groups.
The strange thing is that because she does not consider herself a hyphenated American, they consider her a traitor by some twisted sense of logic. If she does ever run though … she has my vote.
There are high turnouts because these are candidates Americans care about.
The true believers wouldn’t care if he had lit the fuses on Ayers’ bombs. They will make an extra effort to turn out just to prove their point.
Or not.

Yeah – I cared about tornadoes and high-wind storms in much the same manner, and for the same reasons.
and each half rightly so, they should all come together and dump them both.
I say do-over, throw the three little pigs out and start fresh.
How wonderful that would be if it were possible.
Then again, a divided democrat voting block is nothing but a blessing for republicans. I could imagine a worse situation that how it is now.
Because we know what you truly mean.
We voted (NC) because of the people we don’t like including JSM (and hope he gets the message.
I’ve been asking this for a month, can we have a do over before we have a do?
Show of hands here !
Who wants to start over?
Many people in my area are practicing
“Operation Chaos” – including myself.
Hopefully it will help Hillary get her numbers up!
Sorry, no write-ins here in NC
Obama may be winning right now cuz all the unemployed welfare people are at the polls…just wait till after 5pm when all the folks who work can vote…
Wait a minute…there’s no Republican running in this is there…
Never mind.
If you are voting for our lovely hostess because of her race or her gender, then your vote is racist.
If, like me, you think she’d be great for the job, then your vote is neither.
Verstanden?

Anyone else noticing the irony that the Obamessiah, who proclaimed himself the “post-racial candidate” who could absolve the wicked white devils of their sins, is banking on 110% support of black voters to ride to victory?
High turnouts usually mean there is serious trouble in the land and people are concerned.

yeah, i gotta agree — Michelle, we rightly pillory the nutroots when they try to make a call hours before the polls close; we should refrain from doing such, regardless of the candidates invovled. evening will come soon enough; and we can then find out just how good [or bad] a day b.o. had …

Buckaroo you are right on this one.
N.C. here, my husband and I went and voted today. I had him do the operation chaos thing and vote for the Hildabeast, and I voted for the Republicans running state wide for office. I felt that we needed at least one of us looking out for NC’s interest.
So I hope we did our part to continue the battle between the Hildabeast and Obamasiah.
Uh, there’s this other site called -o—r that’s saying that turnout is low.
Thank you.
I needed a good laugh today. You didn’t disappoint.
I’m sure there are strong feelings in about one-half of the part of the population that considers itself left, which is about 40% of the population, right? So, I guess 1 in 5 (half of that 40 percent) care about this democratic primary, while the other 80% don’t really care.
and there is not cure for stupid.
Here’s a shoutout from eastern NC!
I went to the polls about 2 p.m. during my lunch break and it was pretty slow. Our county is about 50% minority. There are few, if any black voters who are going to vote against a candidate of color. When you add the white liberal “change” voters to that number, I’m expecting an Obama win in our county.
Don’t you just love how people choose a candidate?
If you want to win a football game, you need to score points.
There ya go, one statement of the obvious deserves another.
Yeah, I’m on the other side of Alamance County from you and there was no line and no Obama sign anywhere around. I didn’t vote for McCain though. I hope McCain loses.
Yashmak,
Tomorrow will be different than today.
Change is not doing more of the same.
Love is better than hate.
I think I just summed up the Obama campaign, not that Hillary is any less useless. She is just nastier.

There’s your Obama campaign.
Racist or identity based? Name a southern state where Hillary didn’t get the majority of the white vote. Name a state where Hillary didn’t get the majority of the white woman vote, or senior vote(Hillary is what like 60?).
Huckabee picked up most of the evangelicals when he was in the Republican race.
It’s not an exact science, but generally speaking, most groups vote for people they feel they have the most in common with.
Wait till the general election, and watch how McCain cleans up with the veteran vote, and senior citizen vote.
Do you really think there is a racial animous involved in the general electorate? If blacks are voting for the black man in large numbers, I think it’s because they feel a common bond and identity. I don’t think it has much to do with racist feelings toward white people. There are racists in every race, but the vast majority of people aren’t racists. IMHO
tip to you:
don’t watch the Dolphins, Niners or Raiders if you want scoring…. rofl.
Intentional dig at Soap, Bear, Feebz and Eric…
The Raiders are going to light the scoreboard up this year. We just won’t be able to stop anybody.
Yeah, but…
…wouldn’t it be nice it this were hordes of honest blacks turning out to vote AGAINST Obama?!?!?
Wha…? Oh, damn. You woke me up!
I voted here in Eastern NC on Saturday. I as unaffiliated had to take the Republican ballot and not vote for Hitlery because getting rid of Congressman Walter B. Jones Jr. is more important (Everyone seems to forget he used to be a Demonrat)
Barakstar will win NC in my SWAG.An probably the Congressman that believes in Impeachment for the CINC will win also.
Once again America will lose
No, spin it any way you want – blacks vote for him because he’s black.
Do you thinks blacks would vote for Condi or J.C. Watts at the SAME RATE? I don’t? No spin, just a take.
Also, by your logic. Women voting for Hillary are sexist, and the seniors are “agists”.
Maybe it’s just the success of Operation Chaos.
There’s an update at Politico. Phil Singer denying Russert’s report.
For *all* those who are rooting for Ms. Michelle Malkin to run for President, I have very, very sad news:
She’s obviously, manifestly unqualified.
She’s honest.

You mean like how old white people all vote for McCain, or how white women vote for Hillary?
