I didn’t test well either, but nobody paid me to go to an Ivy League school. I did what most Southern, small-town guys do…joined the Marine Corps, came home and went to community college. I don’t see anybody pitying me for not being given the same opportunities as the Obamas. I’m happy with my life anyway, because at least I earned what I have acquired and I have a career I love. I was born poor, I’ll probably die less than wealthy, but at least I live on my own terms and don’t have to thank or blame anyone else for what I do.
Honestly, the Obama’s actually White House material? I don’t think so. Obama would do well to get his whining, elitist wife off of the circuit. She is damaging his chances (thankfully) for winning the nomination. If anyone really wants to see and learn what kind of people these two folks are, just listen to them and see what they have done. Inspiration indeed!

I often wonder why I have never seem Obama put on the spot in the following fashion:
Aren’t you, Mr. Obama, the very incarnation of the American Dream? Born into a mixed-race family, raised by white grandparents of limited means, foreign kid with a funny name and dark skin. If America is such an awful, evil, racist place, how is it possible that you and your wife have been able to access all of the incredible opportunities that have propelled you to this point. You sit before us a Harvard-educated US Senator, on the verge of being nominated by your party to run for the highest office in the land. Why is it that you seem to believe this country lacks these opportunities, and requires a radical change in order to provide hope and opportunity, when you and your wife have experienced those things first hand?
What concerns me is that the democratic party may be forced to put Obama on the ticket. With race being a large part of the campaign, the convention picking Clinton could upset a whole lot of black people in this country, especially inner-city people. There certainly won’t be any forgiveness from the Wrights, Sharptons, and Jacksons of the party, just cries of “racism”. The NAALCP-Liberal colored persons;they don’t support conservative colored people- will definitely have some negative things to say. Ms. Obama will be certainly at the forefront.

She inadvertantly admits what conservatives say about the liberal message: they have tried, and to largely succeeded, in creating a cynicism about America and planting the notion that the good life should be entitlement, not something that requires hard work and dedication which payoff in the long run. It is important that you should always feel good about yourself, and if you don’t something must be wrong with our society. The youthful Obamaniacs that are starting to realize that the world is not interested in their self-esteem are hoping that their messiah will save them from the harsh realities of the working world.
Michelle Obama is so “scarred” by her inpoverished childhood. Yes, Michelle Obama was so scarred that it forced her to go to the lily white campus of Princeton University and then on to the upper crust Harvard Law School. After finishing at Harvard Law, Michelle Obama was so scarred by her upbringing that she found herself forced to work at the white shoe country club law firm of Sidley and Austin. This is a national law firm based in Chicago where just about everybody has a country club background and a golf club membership. A quick look at the representative sample of Sidley & Austin clients includes large insurance companies, including health insurers, drug manufacturers, investment banks and large commercial and savings banks. At every stage in her life, Michelle Obama has chosen the most elitist place to go. Even now, she is “on leave” from a cushy executive job at the University of Chicago Hospital. This is one of the most elite hospitals in the US. It is about as far from the local neighborhood clinic as you can get. I think they even serve Belgian endives and arugula in the hospital dining room.
She and her like should be required to take the basic OT training camp w/ the Army-Marines-Navy-AF-CG.
Maybe there would be a chance to build some strength of character.

Thank you for your post. I did the same thing, The Corps, community college then Penn State. Held down at least two jobs while going to school. Wealth is so much more than the dollars on one’s pocket. It’s the looking in the mirror every day and saying, I did this by myself and the love of my family and friends. The only way the entitlement crowd can know that feeling is to shock them and deprive them.
Michelle Obama has absorbed much of Jeremiah Wright’s theology over the years she attended his church. This is the message that comes through loud and clear, especially in this latest speech she gave. It’s sad that instead of holding herself and Obama up as an example of what can be achieved by anyone, regardless of color or ethnicity,she whines that the ‘bar’ is constantly moving, and that is what is preventing them to claim the prize. Her message is the antithesis of ‘Yes we can’.

I’ve noticed that human ego is such that people who are elevated solely because of skin color or connections or luck often still attribute their good fortune to personal qualities and/or “hard work,” or perhaps “getting an education.”
Seriously, what does money have to do with this? Why is it someone with money is held to a different standard than someone without? Do any of you expect that having money changes something as obvious as depression? I’m no Obama supporter, not by any means but ragging on the woman for being negative is one thing. Wrong. They are not elitist because they achieved the “American Dream.” They are elitist because they are not appreciative of everything that they have and because they–but especially Michelle– think that talking about how OPPRESSED they were at Harvard and Princeton and how much they’ve struggled to live on a million-dollar budget is something the Average American can relate to. It seems like unnecessary whining because… well, frankly, it is. If I had the chance to go to Harvard Law, I’d go in a heartbeat. I wouldn’t be excited about having to take out and pay back loans, but I wouldn’t complain about it ad nauseum.
There’s definitely something admirable about graduating from Ivy League schools, but it’s hard to acknowledge those accomplishments when they spend so much time complaining. They may not have been born with “silver spoons in their mouths,” but they certainly act the part. Michelle clearly feels that she was entitled to her Ivy League education, even though she didn’t “test well” and probably took the spot of someone who had the scores and the grades. (That’s not a racially-fueled comment btw–I know several girls whose daddies “made a call” to get them into the colleges of their choice.)

If Clarence Thomas or Condi gave this same speech, some of you would be falling all over yourselves in praise. ODS is alive and well.
