Hillary’s buddy Paul Begala: Dems “cannot win with eggheads and African-Americans”
My, Paul Begala has a way with words, doesn’t he? You might remember him from the aftermath of the 2000 elections:
You see the state where Matthew Shepard was crucified on a split-rail fence for the crime of being gay — it’s red. You see the state where right-wing extremists blew up a federal office building and murdered scores of federal employees — it’s red. The state where an Army private who was thought to be gay was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat, and the state where neo-Nazi skinheads murdered two African-Americans because of their skin color, and the state where Bob Jones University spews its anti-Catholic bigotry: they’re all red too.
He’s got a little more respect for those red-state white folks today. Here he is, makin’ friends again:
BEGALA: We cannot win with egg heads.
Let me finish my point.
We cannot win with egg heads and African-Americans. OK, that is the Dukakis Coalition, which carried ten states and gave us four years of the first George Bush.
President Clinton — reached across to get a whole lot of Republicans and Independents to come. I think Senator Obama and Senator Clinton both have that capacity. They both have a unique ability –well it’s not unique if they both have it. They both have a remarkable ability to reach out to those working-class white folks and Latinos. Senator Clinton has proven it; Barack has not yet, but he can. And I certainly hope he is not shutting the door on expanding the party.
Very interesting–here’s Paul Begala and Rush Limbaugh basically agreeing on the same thing. Limbaugh also thinks Obama is unelectable.
They’re best buddies, you know.

Just amazing how time changes “perception”…
Begala’s head is quite egg-like. He ought to know!
dems telling the truth, repent the end IS near…
Remember 4 years ago in October the mid-stream media had John Kerry elected on the results of their polling data. Paulie has it right.
Anyway, Hillary may not get this Dem POTUS nomination, but, that does not mean she will effectively support B. Hussein Obama in the fall. If Hussein is elected that means he will be the presumptive Dem nominee in 4 years. THEN, Hillary could not run because Hussein would be going for a second term.
Look for “The Clinton Attack Machine” to go full bore after Hussein in the fall.
He sounds bitter. Was he clinging to a bible?”
He was pointing his gun at the bible.
The quote from 2000 bothers me a lot more than his most recent comments. The things that happened in WY, OK, and TX were all terrible, but it doesn’t have much to do with politics. After all, cities have the highest crime rates and cities usually skew blue.
As for the “Dukakis coalition,” he isn’t wrong. Reagan was able to dominate two elections with the help of “Reagan Democrats.” President Clinton won a lot of them back, but Dems certainly can’t take them for granted.
TimeWorn, please don’t tell me that Jesus Obama might contract Vince Foster disease!!
Looks like Rush knocked the moo off the moo-saih.
Hmmm, I’m not sure what to think. Obama shouldn’t have a chance at winning with Wright, Michelle Obama gaffes, and the bitter comment.
But on the other hand, current events heavily favor the Democrats this election.
And then you have to consider who the Dems are running against – McCain. Which will prevail? Will McCain pull in enough independents or will he lose too many conservatives?
I don’t know what to expect this election.
“They both have a remarkable ability to reach out to those working-class white folks and Latinos. Senator Clinton has proven it; Barack has not yet”
um, yeah, but he came so close when he handed that job over to rev. wrong …
/eyeroll
Gotta crack ‘em to make omelets. Right, William Ayers?
I’m sorry for the tangent, but…
I attended Bob Jones University. In my time there I never heard anti-Catholic bigotry. I DID hear discussion of theological disagreement (its a religious school after all). Is all conflict now considered bigotry?
Good points all around Rusty, expecially on Begala’s silly 2000 quote, but I think current republican, independent and moderate votes for Clinton are really votes against Obama.
If she were the nominee, moderates/indepndents, particularly men, will remember how much they hate her. She is still, rating rather high on traits such as dishonesty. I don’t think these folks will want to see the 90s fought all over again in the general election.
Obama had this coalition strongly considering him until the Rev. Wright scandal. I don’t think he’ll get them all back in Nov., but hopefully enough will reject the prospect of a third Bush term. Also, I think that Obama will bring in a large portion of new voters, and break records with the under 25 turnout, which I think distinguishes him from the likes of Dukakis or Kerry.
Bill, have you ever met a liberal who wasn’t anti-Catholic or a bigot.
I haven’t.
Libs are voting for Jesus Obama, BECAUSE he IS BLACK.
That is bigoted.
Bill Maher says what most libs think about the Catholic church.
And then there is the baby killing bizness.
Trollman, #10 re; “I don’t know what to expect this election.”
Expect to pay 80% in taxes, expect to speak Spanish & expect to face East while praying.
Have a nice day.
The other day Fred Barnes/Beltway Boys/Fox Cable offered Mc895 is busy reaching out to independents, moderates, and Regan Democrats, while neglecting the conservative base because the base is locked in (paraphrased). First, Barnes does not speak for me. Second, I agree with Begala, OblackMan has only been marginal in red states, and in the next 100 years will be known as the only black man to contend for the office of President of the United States.
However, I believe Mc895 is incompetent enough to alienate the Republic base and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Is he not now working on strike nine in slow pitch.
OMG! I agree with Begala! There’s a first!
Taking that one step further, no one has looked into why his name showed up on the captured FARC computer! There are still a lot of things we need to learn about the moo-siah! I believe we’ve just scratched the surface. [not meaning he's all that deep!]
Who is Begala?
So to follow that “logic,” all the gang crime, homelessness, etc., that occurs in big cities, make that big BLUE cities, is because they are concentrations of liberal voters?
Paul Begala is a fine example of “birds of a feather flock together” – a fast-talking, unprincipled opportunist who found his soulmates with the Clinton crowd of shysters and con men.
But even he is right, this time…the Dims can’t win!
Unfortunately even if the Republicans win we’ll be in for a rough 4 years with McPain at the helm raising taxes and starting new programs to fight global warming and to make all the illegals comfortable, while pushing for more legislation to end our First Amendment rights.
Dimsdale. “So to follow that “logic,” all the gang crime, homelessness, etc., that occurs in big cities, make that big BLUE cities, is because they are concentrations of liberal voters?”
You left out the part about kidnapping tourists and holding them prisoners in a mosque… but otherwise, yeah basically.
Yeah, Bill, it is pretty goofy when it gets to the point that disagreement on matters of dogma/doctrine is “bigotry”.
Most Lutheran synods, along with much of Protestentdom, incorporate in their confessionals the ancient affirmation of
the office of the papacy (not any given Pope) as the “AntiChrist”. Not a big deal in the real world, but someone with an axe to grind might try to turn into something more.
Fortunately for me (not so much for you), macro factors are almost always more important. The idea that these elections are horse races that can be affected by small events is just untrue. The economy, war, and the power of incumbency (sacrificed by the GOP this year) are all more important.
I had a professor who wrote a book on this. I don’t treat his system as gospel but it gave me some things to think about.

think carville’s twin — helped billy jeff win in ‘92, served as aide to him in both terms iirc, staple on the news shows for the last decade …
/rush calls him “the forehead” iirc …
You watch only CNN, ABC, NBC & CBS, right? Get educated, moron.
As time goes on with more and more people digging into Mr. & Mrs. Obama’s Marxist racist past, the more unelectable they will become. Sooner or later, it is going to hit the fan. Hillary is just hoping that this happens before the Democrat convention. So do I.
Comic relief via Iraq.
Thanks Buckaroo, I just wanted to hurt his ego.
Hello, Perot…anyone, anyone?
Clinton didnt so much as reach across (that would be Regan) to the other parties, Perot was the divide that allowed Clinton his victory.
Ok, I am done.
le Ops,
Reagan not Regan.
This also makes a case for a change in Congress, especially a Congress that promised change in 100 days.
Sorry for going off topic, but while the prospects for President all appear dim, this comment caused me to wonder about how Speaker Pelosi’s regime will fare as well.
For those conservatives threatening to stay home, please bear in mind that POTUS is not the only job on the ballets in November.
[Self-correction] For those conservatives threatening to stay home, please bear in mind that POTUS is not the only job on the
balletsballots in November. Not that the thought of a Congress in tutus didn’t make me laugh
Tim McVeigh was put to death for being a domestic terrorist.
Bill Ayers is Obama’s friend for domestic terrorism.
Why is that?
The RNC and Bush not fighting a campaign in 1992 is what REALLY won Clinton the Presidency. Let’s see, the Dems yelled, “It’s the economy, Stupid.” and the RNC gave no response. The Clintons would only be a footnote had the RNC merely responded, “It’s Capitalism, Lefty!” But they didn’t and they didn’t do much else, either. Current President Bush is President not because of his political skills but because after 8 years of that lying, thieving Commie and his wonks, at least 50% of the US decided that anything with the label Republican was better than this. The RNC needs to stand up and engage not simply the opposition candidate but the entire Left structure and use logic. Liberals can never win an argument when logic is introduced. Facts scare them. Much like black people scared Obama’s (likely Democrat) grandmother.
“they’re all red too.”
On the other hand the kill whitey (sexual preference immaterial) and recruiting bombers prefer blue.
I don’t like McCain’s platform but if I am going down I’m fightin all the way. McCain is wrong the demoncrats are a disaster. I’ll take my chances on holding his feet to the fire. Besides, when they lose I’m betting they try to burn the country down. It’s a safe bet and they provide the fire. Its a win win situation.
Where is the vast majority of crime in America?
Blue cities and counties.
Half of all murders in America are black on black.
Why is that?
Paul Begala wasn’t nice to gun owners either in 2000, but when you are an addict to power, you will perform political fellatio on just about anyone…
By the way its John McCain’s turn to do some political fellatio, and I’m running out of patience, darn it!
“Why is that?”
jeopardy style — “Alex, ‘what is the end result of 3 generations of complete breakdown of the family structure supplanted by dependence on the state?’”
This is recent and on point about the Democrat’s forgotten and abused ‘voters’.
La Raza’s man in the DNC
Surely Beelzebub must be sharpening his skates since hell has officially frozen over. The Forehead said something that makes sense for the first time in his life.
Since Begala is obviously not black, he must be in the
eggpinhead part of the Democrat equation.A lot of sparrows fall in this world. Following is my my outpouring of emotion over Matthew Shepard:
for the dems, this year is about two minorities: blacks and hispanics. the hispanic minority has a larger base of voters and is growing rapidly beyond that of the black base. the clintons realize this and they know that if obama wins the hispanic vote could be alienated or lost for decades. can the dems afford to alienate the hispanic vote? as it is apparent, that nothing they do has cost them the black base when that voting base should have walked away decades ago..
i think begala would love to say that but can’t as it would be considered racist by liberals but that doesn’t make it any less true.
He should face a firing squad. I would even deny him his cigarette.
Ignatius, the idea that Matthew Shepard was murdered by Republicans is okay by me.
If that’s the route libtards want to take.
Who is killing the approximately 8000 black men who are murdered each year.
I guess that would be Democrats.
Dude, that’s no forehead, that’s a fivehead
[rimshot]
I wonder who has the bigger “fivehead” Begala or Allen Combover? (Hannity’s sidekick.)
And here I thought it was because Ross Perot spoiled everything, giving Clinton a plurality victory.
Proves what I have been saying about Hillary and her posse all along: they’re racists.
I would also like to see more eggheads in the world. Everything would be nicer, and actually work the way it’s supposed to be, if only there more eggheads in the world.

oh, certainly paul, by a, uh, nose …

If that happens, I guess it would show that Wright really was being “prophetic” when he preached GD America.
Rusty said:
Well, I’m one of those folks that thinks it is probably better (in the long term) for a bad Democrat to get elected in ‘08 than a bad Republican.
The Republicans won’t be taking back the House or the Senate in ‘08, but we have a much better shot in ‘10 with a disastrous Democratic president.
WernerP:
You don’t want this, you really don’t….
Or this either….
I finally went to read on the Huffington Post out of morbid curiosity… and talk about time changing perspectives. There’s a bunch of whining about how Hillary has ‘morfed into something very distastful. And become such a liar.’
I was thinking, ‘Huh? She’s the same as she’s always been, they’re only seeing it now because they’ve joined the Church of Obamamessiah.’
Of course, he would never lie…
Anyone can put a spin on any opinion, no matter how stupid, by picking out some facts, and ignoring others. Reminds me of some people who post here. It doesn’t impress me and shows desperation.
-Trollman
I’m torn on that, personally. While I agree with what you say, I also know that bad policy, once implemented, is almost never entirely reversed. . .especially in the case of entitlement programs. After hearing the plans Obama has for health care (among other things), I’m fearful that whoever follows him will be unable to undo all the damage he’ll cause.
On the other hand, experience tells me Presidents are never as bad as I fear, or as good as I hope.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
I just have one question: what if Trent
Lott had said `We can’t win with eggheads and African-Americans?’
I agree that Obama isn’t ready for Prime
Time. I just can’t believe Begala has gotten a pass on this. I haven’t heard the question anywhere.
Cant win with eggheads huh? Begala should know. There does seem to be a resemblance.
Methinks Paul Begala just lost Hillary the coveted Egg-Headed African American vote for the next 100 years.
Was it worth it Paul?
I guess that leaves Michelle Obama out…she is no egghead as she didn’t score well on the SAT’s. Uh, what was the other category?
If my memory serves me right, in 1952 and in 1956, the literati and academics were thrilled with Adlai Stevenson because he was so smart blah blah blah and then were shocked-SHOCKED I tell you that the common folk didn’t go along with the program and elected Ike. Tom Wolfe has a quote in one of his books about these same people about George McGovern-whichh I will paraphrase, “I don’t know how he lost, everyone I know voted for George.” I will give McGovern his due, he flew many combat missions in a B-24 during World War II and I respect his service, just would never have voted for him.
Ross Perot and a lot of Republicans stayed home in 92. We might be seeing a repeat.
