With Barack Obama on the verge of sewing up the Democrat presidential nomination, my syndicated column this morning looks at his biggest general election liability: The Missus. I’ll be on Fox and Friends this morning at around 7:15am to talk primary results.

Are you ready for hope and change? Barack Obama better hope his bitter half has a change of attitude if she expects to assume the title of first lady in November. She’s been likened to John F. Kennedy’s wife, what with her chic suits and pearls and perfectly coiffed helmet hair. But when she opens her mouth, Michelle O. is less Jackie O. and more Wendy W. — as in Wendy Whiner, the constantly kvetching Saturday Night Live character from the early 1980s.
When last our worldviews collided, back in February, the other Michelle was expounding on her lack of pride in America. I gave her myriad reasons to cheer up — from America’s role in the fall of communism and our unparalleled generosity to our nation’s superior economic system, cultural resilience, entrepreneurial spirit, and ingenuity. But since then, Mrs. Obama has dug in her $500 Jimmy Choo heels and solidified her role in the 2008 presidential campaign as Queen of the Grievance-Mongers.
In one of her few (unintentionally) funny moments during a recent sit-down with comedian Stephen Colbert, Mrs. Obama claimed, “Barack and I tend to look at the positives.” That’s a side-splitter. As National Review’s Yuval Levin put it, Michelle Obama is “America’s unhappiest millionaire.” And she has the audacity to extrapolate her misery and her husband’s alleged victimization to the “vast majority of Americans.”
In South Carolina, she called America “just downright mean” and bemoaned “a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day.” And in case you hadn’t heard enough of her carping about how hard it is for a seven-figure-earning family to pay for ballet lessons and piano lessons and pay off college loans, Mrs. Oh-Woe-Is-Me was at it again on the campaign trail in Indiana and North Carolina before Tuesday’s primary.
On the stump, she warmed up (or rather, berated) supporters by complaining about how her husband is an underdog even after he keeps winning primary and caucus after primary and caucus. With a scowl etched on her face, she bellyached that “the bar is constantly changing for this man.” Call the waambulance, stat.
Barack Obama, the missus explains, is Everyman who has ever been put down by The Man. And “understand this” (a condescending verbal tic shared by both Obamas): Mrs. Obama is here to make sure you feel their pain. Which is really your pain. Because the hardships of a privileged Ivy League couple are “exactly” the same as the travails of miners or service workers or small-business owners: “So the bar has been shifting and moving in this race,” she grumbles, “but the irony is, the sad irony is, that’s exactly what is happening to most Americans in this country.”
Don’t tell Michelle about the Great Depression or the Carter Malaise. “Folks are struggling like never before,” she seethes.
Well, yes, gas prices are up. Some food prices are rising. And borrowers who bought more housing than they could afford are underwater. But “struggling like never before”? Didn’t they teach her about Hoovervilles and stagflation?
In Mrs. Obama, the fear-mongering pot meets the angst-stirring kettle: “Fear,” she froths, “creates this veil of impossibility and it is hanging over all of our heads.”
But what Mrs. Obama lacks in pride for her country and its promise she more than makes up for with bottomless pride for her husband. Her standard campaign speeches include at least a dozen references to how “proud” she is of him. And of herself. And of everyone who has overcome The Man and pierced the “veil of impossibility” to get to the polls and vote Obama. An online MSNBC report on a joint appearance by the Obamas on The Today Show in the wake of the Jeremiah Wright debacle included this tellingly narcissistic passage:
[Mrs. Obama]: “‘I’m so proud of how he has maintained his dignity, his cool, his honor.’
“Obama gently tried to interrupt, admitting to being embarrassed by the praise.
“‘But I am proud of you,” she said.
“I know,” he replied.
We all know. So get over yourself already, haughty spirit. Pride doesn’t photograph well. And bitterness leaves frown lines. Which means Botox bills. Which “struggling folks” like you and your husband simply cannot afford.
Try smiling for once. It’s cheaper.

When listening to Michelle Oblahma, I have finally realized what an “angry vagina” is. Have to admit that protest sign was befuddling.
Having to choose between John “La Raza” McCain and Barack “my wife has an angry vagina” Obama, I have one question. Can we have a “do-over”? We can whine that we didn’t know what we were doing and start over. It worked in grade school!
Michelle, that’s likely the main reason she is not proud of America. She is a socialist. The power of the Soviet Empire was a source of pride for her. Now, she can only cling to Chavez, Castro, Ahmed-whats-his-name, and other two-bit, tin-horn dictators.

A Jackie Kennedy, she is not. Jackie had a lot more class than Obama could ever hope to have. I see now that people will vote for anyone, regardless of political views, if they are democrat, entitlement givers and hate America. It wouldn’t surprise me if I read that Ayers and Wright were running for Congress and leading in the polls. How low are we to sink before the pendulum swings back again….

Gateway Pundit linked a story I saw yesterday. More could be coming out about Obama, as he was mentioned in the computer that belonged to the recently killed FARC leader. Should get interesting. They could take her off the circuit if they think she’s hurting him, but it seems like she “whips up” the black crowds that agree with her, at least in principle!

I guess its hard to have a level view of things when you’re busy looking down your nose at people. These people don’t seem to be in touch with normal, everyday people.
And the argument that they came from poor backgrounds, or whatever…pales in the light of their current situations. Seems like they might have forgotten about the roots from wence they came.

unfortunately, my black girlfriends - all college educated, most with grad school degrees, and several dating interracially, look at me with a straight face and say “race relations are getting worse” (the context of this is right after the Jena story broke - we haven’t since spoken about it).
i’ve found it’s impossible to reason with people like this. how can you claim race relations are getting worse when you’re black and your husband’s white?? i asked this question and got an Obamaesque answer…which is to say, no answer at all.

My biggest issue with Mrs. Obie is the fact that she has no idea what it is like to truly suffer and be one of the not-haves. So you were shunned in college and now you have student loans to pay off. Who doesn’t and why should we care about your loans? My childhood was one of abject despair. Yet, here I am making a way for myself, no longer holding onto how horrible things were back then because they are so beautiful now. No longer that angry young lady I once knew. Today there is so much to be thankful for - truly that in and of itself is a blessing from God. A God that Michelle and her hubby claim to serve. Yet, I have a very difficult time recognizing the Christian within them. They truly have been blessed by God and you wouldn’t know it to hear them speak. I’ll concede that life is rough but I’ll save up my tears for those who truly deserve them. Michelle and Barack are charlatans.

I’m a bit offended, as a Christian, that the Obama’s even claim to be Christian. They don’t sound like Christians at all.
The “suffering” that she talks about - that’s just part of life, sweetie. Most people are able to look back at their lives, recognize the hard parts and realize how these times helped them become who they are now.
This woman cannot even comprehend how hard life is for real people. I wish Americans would open their eyes and see what snobs the Obama’s are.

Are you a troll? The gist of this article by Michelle is his WIFE’s bitterness towards this country; a country that has given her and the world so much. I dont like McCain’s or Bush’s moderate politics at all, but each of them has a Wife that is unquestionably a loyal patriotic person. I think it would be a joke to characterize Michelle Obama that way. And for what her politics says about her Husband’s feelings about America, the jury may be out on that. I think his Wife’s feelings about this country are at the least, relevant, even if not necessarily dispositive of how Obama feels inside about the USA.

lgm suffers from BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) and has trouble staying focused.
My husband was poorer than Michelle Obama growing up. Lived on a farm (his father was a sharecropper), no running water, slept on a couch in the living room, never had much of anything. But he was smart and studied and went to university and then the Air Force and got his Master’s Degree and is quite successful. Never complained or cried that it was somebody else’s fault he had to struggle so many years, never blamed anyone, just worked hard and never looked back. I can’t stand the woe-is-me blather that comes out of the Obamas or, for that matter, so many liberals in this country. Being black has become an excuse for not getting what you want without putting any effort into it. And black leaders who continue to promote this idea are doing a terrible disservice to people they claim to care about. I’ll only give Michelle Obama one compliment: you watch her in a side-by-side interview with her husband and at least she’s got some passion. He looks and sounds like he’s falling asleep!

Now, back to Ms. Obama: She referenced the other day that she didn’t do well or score high on her SATs. Knowing Princeton is one of the top schools in the country, most students that get into that highly competitive Ivy League school typically have very high SAT scores, high academic achievements, along with many other attributes.
If MO had low SAT scores, how on earth did she get into Princeton?
Not everyone is as keen to the issues as they should be. Admittedly, my family will vote ‘Democrat’ regardless of the color of the candidate and their credentials.

I agree 100%. Whenever I see the Obamas I think she is the driving force behind this. Barack seems to never have expected to actually won the nomination, is rather stunned and overwhelmed to find himself in the position he is in and would still be amazed if he actually won the general election. Michelle on the other hand has her eyes firmly set on the White House with all the prestige and power that it will bestow on her. She comes across as far more ambitious and driven than her husband.

Good to see you this morning with the Fox Morning Lite crew. No doubt the “other Michelle” is the Hillary behind the scenes of her husbands campaign, and no doubt like Hillary she has more testesterone than her husband. I know Punahou and Hawaii quite well and have been trying to figure how a Punahou kid can end up in a black separatist church on the South Side of Chicago (my old stomping grounds). Well now I know. It is because of the “other Michelle”.
Figure her out, and you figured out what makes Obama tick.

Where did I say any of this? Besides, the fact that some of this is true - these are responses to her holier-than-thou, entitlement mentality and persona. Michelle’s over-arching and broad sweeping claims about AMERICA on the whole are based on her personal experiences over twenty years ago when she was in college and didn’t fit in. So that’s the impetus for blame-all-of America attitude? Puh-leeze.

When it comes to electing the next person to become President, I think their entire family and past has to be scrutinized. The job as President is too important to just let a person’s past and their spouse slide by without serious scrutiny.

That is exactly That is exactly what we are up against. We’re just supposed to swallow hook, line, & sinker “Hope and Change” without requiring an explanation. We are not allowed to make the connection between Mrs. BO”s words and the teachings of Wright. We are not allowed to question his true world view given the sleezy company he keeps. We cannot ask what his qualifications or accomplishments are that qualify him to be POTUS. We cannot even mention his middle name.

We know what we know about Obama by his associates, and his wife is one of them. If she puts herself out there with her appearances and interviews, then she is fair game. So is his pastor.
Every criticism is not racism or bigotry, nor any criticism of his wife unfair. She is an accomplished lawyer, and, by definition, has complete control of everything she says or does publicly. So one can only assume that she does not make gaffes, nor her husband.
They are the “best and the brightest” and if that includes a perverse interpretation or inner hatred of America, then it is not a mistake. It is deliberate.
I have a dream:
