Update: Pete Wehner on the significance of the little pin.

***

Speaking of flag pins, Obama’s been spotted wearing one (photo link here). No word on the star-count:

Barack Obama, who labeled discussion of whether he wears a flag pin in his lapel a false issue in a debate with Hillary Clinton, was wearing one Monday as he campaigned in West Virginia ahead of Tuesday’s primary vote there.

Obama made no reference to the pin, which could be clearly seen in television images and through telephoto lenses as he spoke in Charleston, W. Va., about veterans issue. There was no public comment from his campaign.

Monday morning, pollster and former Bill Clinton adviser Douglas Schoen wrote in an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal that Obama needs to better define his values heading into the general election. “First, and obviously symbolically, he must start wearing the flag lapel pin,” Schoen wrote. “He simply cannot afford to raise doubts about his patriotism.”

Although Obama sometimes wears the pin, more often he doesn’t. And he’s long insisted on being a different kind of politician who doesn’t resort to gimmicks or give in to pressure to conform to the status quo.

Indeed, so really the pin should have 58 stars. I recall last year when Obama confused the death toll of a recent tornado (~10) with Katrina (~1000) and came up with a figure of “10,000″ dead from said tornado. The man does seem to have a problem with numbers.

Yes, I know it’s cruel to pick on him, but it’s also fun and we need all the fun we can get in this tragic election. Anyone remember what the democrats did to Dan Quayle? Payback is a b*tch.

No, my middle school students would NEVER state that there are 57 states with two more to go no matter how tired they were.

Man, imagine if President Bush EVER stated something this dumb (ESPECIALLY in complete sincerity, as Obama has done), the MSM would be all over it. But President Bush is FAR more intelligent than Barack Hussein Obama.

Buckaroo, no Muslim thinks he is an apostate. They think he being very clever to pretend to the infidel that he is actually a Christian. Check out this article. He has made it clear to the Muslim world that he considers himself a Muslim when he chanted the prayers in “perfect Arabic.”

That’s not what his friends and classmates have said. Classmate Rony Amiris describes young Barry as enjoying playing football and marbles and of being a very devout Muslim. Amir said, “Barry was previously quite religious in Islam. We previously often asked him to the prayer room close to the house. If he was wearing a sarong, he looked funny,” said Rony.

Amiris, now the manager of Bank Mandiri, Jakarta, recently said, “Barry was previously quite religious in Islam. His birth father, Barack Hussein Obama was a Muslim economist from Kenya. Before marrying Ann Dunham, Hussein Obama was married to a woman from Kenya who had seven children. All the relatives of Barry’s father were very devout Muslims”

Emirsyah Satar, CEO of Garuda Indonesia, was quoted as saying, “He (Obama) was often in the prayer room wearing a ’sarong’, at that time.”

“He was quite religious in Islam but only after marrying Michelle, he changed his religion.”
So Obama, according to his classmates and friends was a Muslim until the confluence of love and ambition caused him to adopt the cloak of Christianity: to marry Michelle and to run for President of the United States.

I question Obummer’s patriotism when he won’t place his hand over his heart at The pledge allegeance to the flag, refuses (until now) to wear a lapel pin, doesn’t believe we should be fighting the people that has killed 3,000 Americans, and wants to “talk” to one of the worst terrorist on this earth. For you libs, I know the people that killed them or dead, but the armies they left behind aren’t and thay want to see the 9/11 numbers triple and quad triple. Obummer wants to help them, too. His backbone is the color of cheese and proably just as soft, for he can’t wait to tell our military to lay down their arms and come home.
Obummer and the people supporting him doesn’t know what the word patriotism means. To them it’s “protecting” the country by not offending someone who can blow us to kingdom come. They think if you don’t make them mad, they’ll leave you alone. Did the ones in the towers and in the planes make them mad? I don’t think so.
Patriotism to me is willing to fight and die to protect the borders, and all thats within the country, from people like the terrorists. I’m too old for the military, but not too old to pick up a rifle, if it comes to that, and with Obummer as the Commander-In-Chief, it might just come to that.

I don’t agree with his politics or his foreign policy prescriptions, but I really don’t doubt his patriotism. It would be tough to be unpatriotic and carry on a serious campaign for the Presidency.

The 57 states thing, which I heard when he said it, was nothing more than a simple flub. Do you truly believe that he doesn’t know the number of states?

All that crap about Islam and the Pledge and the hand over the heart…c’mon. Is that the best we can do? Is that what separates him from McCain? Phony stories about his upbringing?

Why do you think he wants to be President? Is it just an ego trip? There are far better ways to satisfy the ego. The job sucks. It is a thankless job. If you act independently, as GWB has (and, as I believe BHO will) you pay the price with every single person who disagrees with you. If you act in accordance with the masses, then you are considered weak and pandering.

Maybe everyone who runs for this office is just doing it for the ego trip. Maybe they just want to be remembered as the such and such numbered POTUS. Heck, they might even think that they can make a difference. They’ll get the blame or credit as the economic winds blow, so it doesn’t matter too much what they do.

Maybe I’m just suffering from a little Presidential nihilism. We concern ourselves with stupidest junk regarding these candidates. There isn’t any real definite differences in any of them. It’s too politically dangerous to take a stand on an issue. Someone might disagree and they might not cast their vote for us.

This is an awful election year. Worse than most. It’s like Ford vs. Carter. No one is qualified. No one stands for anything of substance. Even the Libertarian candidate will be nothing more than a milquetoast Republican reject, and because the GOP will be nominating one of those for themselves, they’re afraid that the LP candidate will take away precious votes.

We’re going to have to do some real suffering for four years before someone with a spinal column runs for office. Someone who doesn’t care what you and I think about the big issues because this person will convince us, persuade us, of what is right and good. But that person isn’t here this time around. They can’t survive in this knee-jerk anti-President environment.

In the meantime, let’s continue making fun of the candidates. It doesn’t help or hurt anything. If it makes us feel better, what the heck? Why not?

I apologize. I’m tired. I’m angry. But I am damn glad to be an American. That is no lie.

As for the job “sucking,” I offer you the job Slick did: NOTHING. All you have to do when you get the job is pretend you care, learn how to jerk a tear on command and then you can woo all the interns you want. Sit back and let the Republican congress do all the work, and just take the credit. You’re right about that — the Prez is going to get the credit or the blame, even if congress deserves it (either one).

Boy howdy do I remember how all that went down. It took years before the MSM and the leftards would let that one go. And frankly, that is “small potaotes” in comparison to this Obama flap. Think about it for a moment. You have a guy that is running for VP and he apparently lacks a mastery of spelling juxtaposed against a guy who is running for the big chair who isn’t clear on how many states are in our union. Which of those two is more frightening in the grand scheme of things? Don’t these presidential candidates have to take some kind of test or anything? This clown is a graduate of an Ivy League college to boot! This makes me kinda interested in hearing his educational platform. I’ll bet that would be very entertaining and depressing at the same time.

I will be interested in how much this will be played out in the MSM. I’m sure he won’t get the full Dan Quayle treatment…I mean, after all, he probably know how to spell “states”…he just isn’t too clear how many there are! These are some damn scary times we are living in folks!

And, if I remember those days correctly, it took two years of Willie (and the Hill) trying to foist their progressive agenda on all of us for that passionate congress to be elected. I’m hoping history repeats itself.

Schafley has said that this plan has been in the works by the globalists for a while. The new border will be the Southern border of Mexico. The amnesty was just phase 1 of the plan. And we saw the alliance of McCain, left wing republicans and democrats at work last year.
Then when it looked like the McCain’s campaign was dead, all of a sudden the MSM (including Fox) promotes the guy into the clear front runner.

I think it is now official. There is now only one political party. The Republicans have merged with the Democrats (even Newt has crossed over the the dark side). McCain is the choice to make Obama seem less radical. Obama will be the next president, and republicans will just subjugate themselves to the democrats.

In fact, our President has said so many impossibly stupid things that a new term was coined for his egregious misstatements, slip ups, and grammar-defying quotes: Bushisms. There are plenty of these gaffes floating around — although the now-famous “Make the Pie Higher” piece only uses a handful:

Also, I got to agree with nyk on the Marxist rhetoric. Democrats lean a bit more to the left than Republicans, but none of them compare with Marxists.

Try to imagine the media uproar if Bush had said that. Remember the recent coverage when McCain made a flub about Sunnis and Shiites? Remember the difference in coverage between the military services of Kerry and Bush? I sure do.

Every tiny mistake by a Republican is magnified beyond all proportion, while those of Democrats are stuck next to the obits if they are covered at all.
