Worst prom dress of 2008 nominee

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 12, 2008 07:14 PM

It’s that time of the year again. Prom season gone wild. We’ve got our first entrant for worst prom dress of the year. The girl seems to have confused her high school prom for the swimming pool. Because her outfit looks like it was meant to bathe in, not dance in:

1prom.jpg

1prom002.jpg

Where was the adult in this teenager’s life to block the door and say: “Nuh-UH, no way in hell you’re stepping out that door. Go put some clothes on or I’ll make you wear a sleeping bag to your prom.”

Classiness, RIP.

    I have sons and daughters and I won’t even talk about how my husband would react to my daughter putting that “dress” on, but beyond that, if one of our son’s date showed up in that get-up he would be going to the prom stag. End of story. No discussion. (We would probably be inserting ourselves as last minute chaperones too.) We went Saturday night to see the kids before prom and I saw a lot of tasteful dresses and a few who showed way too much cleavage. One of the Seniors we knew said the kids were all taking bets on who would show up in the “trashy dresses”.

    I believe you meant it as a slam, but it fell flat. And why you ask?

    Because it was just too lame.

    The dress was so inappropiate. I blame the parents. Just go to any store, starting in the toddler section and you’ll find mini hooker wear. If you allow children to have their way of dress all their lives, what do you expect? It’s not just a Christian thing, it’s common sense. Geesh.

    I liked how she and her friends thought that covering up her abdomen would solve the dilemma.

    The school authorities must have been too prudish to say, “Honey, it’s because your nipples are covered by a sheer piece of gauze.” Instead, they said that it was because she wasn’t wearing underwear, to which she rightly replied that she was indeed wearing underwear. She meant the thong that she was undoubtedly sporting, I’m sure.

    We’ve got to clear a few things up here:

    1) prostitutes do not dress this poorly and it is insulting to the profession to draw the comparison;
    2) some are assuming she has a father figure at home…it doesn’t seem likely, unless it’s Michael Lohan;
    3) there is nothing wrong with an elegant backless dress, or showing off some cleavage, it depends on its spot on classy to trashy spectrum;

    This girl seemed reasonable in the news interview. Why the need for attention, I wonder? Really, she appears as though she would have looked very pretty in a typical prom dress. Her date was looking sharp in that gold lame (accented ‘e’) vest.

    It also appears that the school had a written dress code for the prom. If she violated it, then she should not receive a refund.

    Come now. Let’s not disparage the date unnecessarily.

    At that age, had my prom date shown up wearing something like that, I have to admit my first thought would not have been “I wish my date had more self respect. It reflects poorly on her, and by association, me.”

    For better or worse, my first thought probably would have been something not appropriate here.

    But my actual prom date was a sweet, modest Presbyterian girl (Hi Tara!). So moot point.

    This is a serious cry for attention/help.

    Not to mention, this outfit is beckoning a lot of dangerous attention her way. Violent crimes are on account of 90% opportunity. Her dress certainly leaves little to none to the imagination…especially for sexual predetors out there.

    I think this is pretty frightening.

    The problem with the word prom is that it too closely resembles the word porn. Given what the schools are teaching now, I think it’s understandable that the words prom and porn could get confused.

    Yeah, that’s it. We’re so starved for sex the mere *sight* of a 17-year-old wearing practically nothing to cover her body freaks us out.

    /scarcasm.

    Why is it *this* is an expression of “sexuality”, but when women – like me – choose to dress modestly out of respect for our bodies, we’re “worthless prudes”?

    Newsflash for you, Steve. This isn’t “sexuality”, this is a cheapening of this young girl into an object. The kind of thing feminists were supposed to *oppose*, remember?

    There are healthy ways to express one’s sexuality; pretending you’re in a remake of “Pretty Woman” isn’t one of them. Those of us who understand that – you know, us “worthless prudes” – are capable of expressing our sexuality in a way that doesn’t throw it in the face of others. Like we’re supposed to do.

    Funny how liberals will argue that religion has no place in the public sphere, should be kept in the privacy of our homes (preferably with the doors locked and the windows drawn) but this girls bod does.

    She was 17, still a minor, at the time of prom. And – contrary to what some believe – just because we’re considered adults at 18 doesn’t mean we’re magically mature or responsible overnight.

    And you think that’s okay for a minor to wear this in public?

    Please.

    What a pathetic argument in favor of perversion.

    When someone told me about this story, my first reaction was to drum up some moral outrage. “How dare they arrest a girl for a dress, blah, blah, blah.”

    Then I saw the dress. It was more ridiculous than I could have imagined.

    I am glad she wasn’t allowed to the prom. The arrest still worries me. I read that she was arrested while she was arguing that she should get a refund for her now useless tickets. Fact of the matter is, blacks are much more likely to be arrested for any kind of public disturbance.

    And to anyone racist enough to turn this into a black and white issue, let’s not forget this beaut. This is from a catalog. Good grief!

    Rusty,

    I dont know how it was anywhere else, but…I know when I in high school, to fight with one black person was to fight with a whole squad of people. From what i’ve seen in the news and heard from my younger siblings, its nothing new.

    If that mentality still pervades, I could see why they are arrested in those instances. Because as a lone officer, or even 2 or 3, you might have a small, angry mob on your hands.

    Don’t know if thats accurate. Just my experience.

    This girl and her parents need some decency lessons, however.

    I’ll err on the side of caution on that, thank you very much.

    Fair warning…you opened this door all on your own.

    On kids, lgm? this is a high school kid. You’re ok with seeing high school kids dressed like this? Isn’t that kind of sick that you’re ok with seeing this on a young girl?

    And by comparing us in this case with our adversaries is intellectually bankrupt. It’s not even close.

    Here, this girl was escorted out of the place by the police and was allowed to go home.

    In Saudi Arabia, she’d have been drug out into the street by her hair and murdered by her own family, or if she even MADE it to a sharia court, she’d have been executed anyway. And I would believe it a sure bet she would be tortured a little before she was executed.

    Little different circumstance, but it shows the mentality. here, have a read, troll:

    Middle East Muslim countries
