Worst prom dress of 2008 nominee
It’s that time of the year again. Prom season gone wild. We’ve got our first entrant for worst prom dress of the year. The girl seems to have confused her high school prom for the swimming pool. Because her outfit looks like it was meant to bathe in, not dance in:
Where was the adult in this teenager’s life to block the door and say: “Nuh-UH, no way in hell you’re stepping out that door. Go put some clothes on or I’ll make you wear a sleeping bag to your prom.”
Classiness, RIP.

WOW, just wow. So, you will not mind if we invite you to go away?
Who left to door open?
“Dress” is a stretch of definitions when it comes to that yellowish hand towel she’s wearing.
Might I add that the school in question had published a rather explicit dress code about what would not be allowed in its prom. It was shown briefly in one of the news clips about this incident. One of the first regulations was something like “You may not show more than one inch of midsection.”
Perhaps she mistook “inch” for “foot.” Perhaps she can’t read at all; high school diplomas have been accomplished sans reading before. Most likely, she had absolutely no regard for authority, in which case I’d say that the handcuffs were a necessary start.
Oh, wait. Dress codes restrict freedom of expression. Cue the ACLU in 5, 4, 3, 2… /sarc
This girls mother and father need a slap in the face!
Prom dress!
More like HOOKER dress!
“Offensive” is in the eye of the beholder. You’re being more than a little hypocritical when you mock standards of decency espoused by some Muslims, while objecting because this dress violates your standard. How many of you laughed at the “prairie-style” dresses worn by the women from the Texas polygamy compound? What do the Amish think of the way your daughter dresses?
You’ll probably get an argument that this is all different because of the punishments meted out for the moral violation.
If we keep the arguments on standards of decency, the moral objectivity house of cards will come tumbling down.
If your comment generates some discussion, corona, this should be interesting to observe.
I live just outside Memphis and my wife and I saw this on the local news yesterday. Sadly, it did not surprise us as it comes on the heels of other news reports lately describing “typical” Memphis high school kids behavior such as a 14 year old picked up for skipping school to prostitute herself, cell phone footage of a local high school dance where kids perform the RAPE DANCE, humping each other and mimicking sex in full view of apathetic teachers who do nothing to stop it. This, along with skyrocketing STD rates (Memphis has the highest syphilis rate in the state), jammed abortion clinics, corrupt local government, a school system that is little more than a public day care, and a large portion of the local population that exercises its right to “exist” on welfare and other handouts is what you get when people suck eveything they can out of a system and give nothing in return.
No, not daytime TV (I assume you mean Jerry Springer, et al)–I have a job.
WOW, get a clue. Who’s standard? You may feel like this would be okay for your daughter. You may feel it was fine for her to sign a contract and then, show up dressed like this, in violation. Maybe we just HAVE standards and that is upsetting you.
If she showed up completely covered, she would have been allowed to stay. She was NOT invited to the Playboy mansion where her “dress” would have been met with approval. It was a prom with a dress code.
Get over yourself.
While i agree with the premise, the application doesnt bear out that way.
Had this girl worn a regular prom dress, this discussion wouldnt even be here.
While i agree its in the eye of the beholder…this beholder is seeing a bit too much from a girl thats too young to be wearing that.
just my 2 cents.
Yeah, because the fact that she’s 17 years old and violating school dress code has nothing to do with anything.
And the originall post dealt with whya parent would let their child dress like that. Hoenstly, if you cant see the difference between wearing a bikini to the swimming pool and dressing up like a street walker for prom then you have serious judgement problems.
Furthermore, the standards of decency for many muslim countries happen to be applied by the state, wherein they are not applied by the state, they are applied by mob rule. On the other hand, we’re bitching about it on the internet and doing nothing else other than wagging our finger at the negligent parents and an idiot child. See the difference? Of course not.
Yeah ok Mr. Pedophile!
Tie any young ones up lately Dahmer?
Here’s a key difference in the Muslim and Christian reaction to these sorts of things.
Muslims expect the girl’s family to stone or beat her to death for bringing dishonor to the family.
Christians tell the girl to go put some clothes on.
The Muslim’s main concern is how the girl’s dress reflects on the family, especially her father. Killing her is acceptable because she has hurt someone else.
The Christian’s main concern is how the girl’s dress reflects on the girl. Killing her is not acceptable because it causes greater harm to her than wearing the dress.
See the difference?
Great question. Sadly, some don’t.
What, this is bad? People have a right to express their sexuality anywhere, anytime in any manner they please. You are being far too judgemental. You might even be a right-wing Christian prude!
/sarc off
Not many. I know I didn’t. A little old-fashioned, perhaps, but nothing I would laugh at. Many, many women in American still choose to look like women and wear dresses, even “prairie-style” (whatever that means) dresses. Just because we don’t all want our daughters dressing like sluts doesn’t mean we’re hypocritical.
You build your strawmen pretty fast, taylork.
I’ve already posted on the fact that she violated the school dress code.
She looks ridiculous and the outfit isn’t worthy of name “dress”.
Corona brought up a topic of decency standards. If that means just following a dress code generated by a school district, then fine. In that limited sense, I agree that that is an acceptable standard. Those standards will vary from place to place and some will seem lax while others seem a bit restrictive. Which is right?
The argument about Islamic enforcement of some standard is irrelevent to the discussion, though I appreciate (and mostly agree with) your take.
As far as your condescending comments on swimming pools vs proms and whether or not I can see the difference? Well, I won’t join you that sort of thing. I’m sure if we were having a face to face conversation you wouldn’t make such oversimplified statements.
But by making the above statement you already did.
While I’l admit I was a bit terse and condescending, apologies, the swimming pool vs. prom statement is not an overly simplified. It was merely an example of how the appropriateness of one’s dress is contextually defined by both the location and event. A bikini in church would be no more appropriate than a prom dress at a funeral.
I wonder what sort of influence her parents had on her that she thought it was perfectly acceptable to go to a prom dressed like a hooker. Is she getting no parental direction and guidance, or did the single parent mother (assumption on my part – no father would let her out looking like that) think the “dress” was cute and told her “go for it, girl”?
We agree on that, taylork. (But I wouldn’t let my daughter wear gauze strips to the beach either, though.)
I guess that dress is appropriate for a gala event on Univision!
Does she look up to Paulina Rubio and Niurka Marcos? Google these names and you’ll see what I mean.
Maybe her parent are the one that admire them and she just wanted to satisfy her parents?
Maybe this was suppose to be a beach party prom but changed and she forgot to get the memo.
At least I feel comfort that a two pieced loin cloth like that would never be worn at our high school prom. 45 to 55 degree temperatures are not uncommon on prom night.
Someone paid for that. Shouldn’t the parents have helped choose the dress as my wife and I did?
HOT GHETTO MESS!
i heard she is voting repub..thats hot!

Why am I not shocked that someone here would post something like this? It’s so easy to have your stereotypes of conservatives confirmed here. And you never have to wait too long…
and of course, you don’t confirm a liberal stereotype at all…
(I’m not defending his comment, mind you, but coming from you that statement is laughable.)
And to add on taylork…
a stereotype would indicate thata majority of the people here are involved in the same activity.
you pulled one quote out of (presently) 125.
somehow, what you’re saying seems as ignorant as the nappy headed quote.
See, as a conservative, I can dismantle your argument AND condemn someone for their behavior, and never miss a beat.
All too easy.
If you think this prom dress is okay, you’re probably:
A fellow member of Skank High School, a parent w/out a moral compass, or a horny single male. (No father, w/ an ounce of dignity, would allow her out his front door!!!)
It’s such a shame. She is such a pretty girl with a beautiful figure. She could have shown class and chosen so many other dresses more fitting for the occasion. Instead she chose this “wrap” which sends the wrong message in so many ways. Hopefully she’ll learn from this.
= Obama supporter.
Rusty, you are too funny. You stated this immediately beneath this statement;
Were you trying to be funny?
Lets ask the Obammessiah and his full of hate wife about this situation. They have a lot of “street cred” and are uniquely qualified to give the final analysis of this situation.
Where are the parents?
Oh, Yea. They stopped caring a long time ago. Sad.

Now, I know that osama appreciates your front-line defense, lgm.
Having said that:
No, Mrs. Malkin was clearly saying that here in the West we don’t have to wear black cloth all over our bodies in 100 degree heat or at the beach, okay?
She clearly made that distinction in the article, too, which I think you should reread.
And this is different because schools have dress codes, lgm.
As a sterotypical liberal, you still have that black and white, either-or thinking of the 1960’s. There are more choices than just butt naked or burka, and I’m sure it would be nice to be able to take pics of the kids at prom for the yearbook without having to worry about child pornography.
It used to be that the father of the children would be the one standing there, telling the daughter that there was no way in Hell that she was going out of the house dressed that way.
The father.
The father that the courts and Liberals have gone to great lengths to remove from the family unit, making divorce something that everyone must have, making a father’s rights only something that is complained about by the countless fathers that are denied them on a daily basis. The father that the media, television shows, movies and so forth have made into a bumbling buffoon, only worthy of laughs at his “backwards thinking” and over bearing ways. The father that is the butt of all jokes, that, according to television, movies and even commercials, is incapable of cooking, cleaning, taking care of children, incapable of changing diapers, and someone that becomes a hated, pathetic figure while “Desperate Housewives” complain about him and do everything they can to go behind his back to get a illicit lover of their own.
That father…is not there. Murphy Brown started it all, and the media helped by making anyone who thinks that a father is needed, and a single mother who refuses any help what-so-ever from a man is the most empowered, strong, worthwhile human on the planet that all our daughters should emmulate. All our daughters are told they not only do not need a man in their lives, do not need a husband, but that they also need not isten to the father that might, against all odds, actually be in the home because he is nothing short of a clown who, if breathing wasn’t an involiuntary reflex action, would just plain forget to do it and die.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the result of all that. It has resulted in the Paris Hilton-ization of all our daughters. ‘Stupid Spoiled Whores” used to be an insult, something that a girl would be forever sccarred simply by the thought that she was being perceived as such, but now, it is something the aspire to become. “South Park” actually had an episode about this and made the point very well that it is something attrocious and not what a girl should want to become…but yet all one has to do is look at any television show or news article and see all the “crotch shots” and other photos of all the girls put before our daughters as their idols to see exactly where it has gone.
And the father? Well, who really needs the “Baby Momma Drama” anyway. Statistics do not lie, and all one has to do is look and see just how many families these days consist of a woman and several children, with several different fathers and none of them around.
Thanks Liberals…you have done us all a great service in turning girls from aspiring to be lawyers, doctors, and other wonderful things that involved self-sufficiency, brains, education and such into worthless crap that looks to whatever “stud” stupid enough to come along, donate some sperm and make them reliant on their bodies and not their minds.
I thank God that my three daughters actually look at those “wpmen” with disdain. I actually believe it is becase i am not only in teir lives, but actually partake in everything they do, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
Soap-box off now.
lgm demonstrates that he doesn’t understand the difference between a formal function and the beach. My daughters’ swimsuits had more material that that “dress” when they were her age.
