Betting pool: How long ’til the GOP starts claiming “We are the change that we seek?”

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 13, 2008 11:25 PM

1achange2.jpg I really didn’t think it could get much worse than the GOP’s “Change You Deserve” crapola that I blogged about this afternoon.

Should have gone to bed without checking my e-mail one last time.

Because GOP House leader John Boehner’s latest press release tonight on the Mississippi special election loss just made me lose my late-night snack. (That–and the return of Zubaz pants. Agh.)

After you read this, make your predictions: How long ’til the GOP starts co-opting Obama’s stupefying line, “We are the change that we seek?”

It’s only a matter of time:

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) tonight responded to the special election results in Mississippi’s First Congressional District. Boehner released the following statement:

“The results in MS-01 should serve as a wake-up call to Republican candidates nationwide. As I’ve said before, this is a change election, and if we want Americans to vote for us we have to convince them that we can fix Washington. Our presidential nominee, Senator McCain, is an agent of change; candidates who hope to succeed must show that they’re willing and able to join McCain in a leading movement for reform.

“We need to stop wasteful Washington spending, fight and win the war on terror, and stop the largest tax increase in history. That is truly the change the American people deserve — and that is a message on which we can succeed.”

NOTE: Boehner recently delivered a presentation to the House Republican Conference entitled “Why We Can Win.” In it he argues that the 2008 electoral battle is a battle the GOP can win by showing Americans that Republicans are agents of change. And yesterday, GOP Leaders distributed a memo to House Republicans on “The Change America Deserves,” setting the stage for a “positive agenda of reform that delivers the change the American people are crying out for.”

Boehner serves as honorary chairman of The Freedom Project (www.freedomproject.org), a political action committee (PAC) established in 1995 to provide assistance to Republican candidates for federal office. Its mission is to help Republicans earn back the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Freedom Project is committed to a better America based on freedom and security, empowered citizens and personal responsibility.

Next up: GOP leaders rap about how they’re “the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

How much “change” did these feckless Beltway Republicans spend on the high-priced consultants who have turned them into Obama wannabes?

***

Time to bring out that classic SNL Change Bank skit again. Who knew I’d have to resurrect it to ridicule the Republicans…

BLUF: Conservatives cannot compete with liberals on the same level as liberals.
As proven here, Republicans cannot compete toe-to-toe with Democrats in ad hominem games. They lose every time. Rather, Republicans need to assume the American people have a few brain cells left to discern a good idea from a bad one. What made Reagan’s ‘64 speech so great? He called liberalism out for what it was and communicated something better. Read the scorecard aloud concerning the democratic leadership and policies during their reign, then follow up with better ideas. Use historical examples. Use science, economics, logical reasoning, and embrace our Founding Principles and Christian morality. Don’t be scared of getting hurt by personal attacks. If you have a good idea and explain why it’s a good idea, then people won’t listen to ad hominem garbage. Reagan was the “Teflon president,” a little because of his shrewdness, but more so because people embraced his ideas and refused to allow such attacks to hurt their view of him. Maybe we should look to great Republican leaders of the past rather than potential future Democratic presidents for effective ideas and ways to communicate them.

I daresay you’ll next be telling me that wearing my Bugle Boy overalls with the tops hanging down, or girls hair-spraying their bangs straight up were fashion faux pas!

Seriously, though, at least we kept our underwear hidden. Plus, there’s probably more material in a pair of Zubaz than there was in that “prom dress” from yesterday.

Anyway, I’m off to do laundry. Got some sweet acid washed jeans that need cleaning, plus a whole bunch of Levi’s Botton Your Fly, No Fear, and Nike Bo Jackson and Air Jordan shirts to wash. Oh, and I gotta let the air out of my Reebok Pumps. See ya!

this sentence is the sole statement John makes that contains any real substance, the rest is p.r. b.s. that, for reasons that completely escape me, the gop has chosen to put into a press release. Taking this statement on its face, it touches on 3 areas where republicans DO WIN, and if they do keep to those 3 things [stop wasteful spending, defeat our enemies in battle, and lower the tax burden] the gop can win in november, despite all the egg-tossing from the sidelines by our hostess, a. coulter, and, well, seemingly about 1/2 the right side of the ’sphere.

We keep letting Democrats beat us with conservatives. If Republicans want to win they’re going to have to make it clear that there is nothing conservative about the Democratic Party.

My own slogan would be something like: Bread, Milk, & Fuel.

These are items that everyone has seen spike in the last year. Republicans should commit to bringing inflation under control by strengthening the dollar, eliminating bio-fuels, and expanding our supply of energy to include nuclear power, offshore drilling and ANWR –Unfortunately, John McCain is going to be a problem on this

Let me get this straight: the change we deserve is…what we should already have?

This is a fairly lame list of objectives. I want specifics, with delivery dates.

Here’s a couple of changes we could use at the outset:

    1) TERM LIMITS. Now. Let’s go with three for the House and two for the Senate. No grandfather clause, if you’ve done them, you’re out next cycle. Everyone. Now! Time to join the rest of us citizens in the real work of the nation. Amend the Constitution to make it as permanent as possible.

    2) BALANCE THE BUDGET. Make some hard choices and get the fiscal house in order. Make it the law of the land. Amend the Constitution to make it as permanent as possible. No exceptions, even in a time of war. We’ll make sacrifices now rather than force our descendents to make sacrifices later. These idiot Keynesians (who don’t even know that they are so) are the reason that most American debt is owned by other nations. It is not a position of strength.

I said a couple, so there’s two. There are hundreds of specific things, many unpopular, that need to be done to “fix Washington”. But it will never happen.

One cannot fix what they don’t recognize as broken. It is never the person with the bad breath and the body odor who suffers.

Mr President, members of Congress, could you do something real for us? Could you go brush your teeth and take a shower, please? And you, yes you, GOP Caucus, you need to floss, too.

This is why I am intrigued right now by anyone else entering the race. I am sick and I mean really sick by this stuff. I hate to think about what is to come in the US and I am not even sure we all have a clue. We need someone else, across the board and we definitely need someone else than our current Pres. Candidates.

The real dilemma right now is that in order to overcome who we have now to choose from, that person must be recognizable and a big figure. How do you get that without them also being part of the elite and susceptible to “compromise?” Recently, Bob Barr was being bashed just for showing up and not really on his credentials, which I admit, I don’t know anything about, but then again I am not saying I am voting for him just giving an example. I just think we need to stop thinking of someone else entering as being a “third party.” Who is to say they are the third party? Why isn’t the GOP the third party? Why not make them the 3rd party?

We all here at MM.com have a lot of opinions and most do not support McCain. A matter of fact, the supporters don’t actually seem to be supporters as much as they seem to be trying not to lose. These are the same people that told me a year and half ago that I had to vote for Rudy because he is the only one that can win. Really??? People say Bob Barr who, but I say Rudy who?

Why don’t we MM.com followers come up with a candidate. I am not and will not vote McCain and this bs about him being better than the alternative is like asking me if I want to be shot in the head or the stomach? I don’t want to be shot at all! McCain is against us on taxes, against on immigration, says he will support conservative judges but what “conservative” definition is he using, the same one the gang of whatever did, hates the first amendment and is really iffy on the Iraq war (we know he wants to stay, like forever). On top of that we have the choice of three Senators, the same bunch that hold to some (maybe) principles for 16 months they are in office and the rest they spend frolicking with each other and going to parties and participating in bipartisanship. Blthhh! You think McCain is a better choice, why, what is the proof? You don’t think he would cave to get attention and the much needed love he needs?

I don’t know, I just feel kind of queasy. Any thoughts?
