We lived in Columbia for 30 years until we moved back to upstate NY 3 years ago.

Columbia is a ‘liberal’ town without a doubt. One year a while ago, the elementary school near us had a “Martin Luther King” day in the auditorium. White students were not allowed to attend – - just blacks. My sons had already moved on from this school by that time, but I remember thinking if they had been there, I would have raised ‘hell’…probably should have anyway.

This cross issue doesn’t surprise me at all.

we cant let facts get in the way of discussion! And when we do put facts, we have to put them COMPLETELY BACKWARDS so it fits our narrow and small-minded world view! How else would it explain why we see everything, ya know,in the completely opposite way that reality works?

Im OK with a cross. But are you OK with a Mosque? A few months ago there was lots of approval here for the guy who built a pig farm next to an Islamic center just to annoy them. Are you for religious tolerance or just Christian tolerance?

I’m okay with a mosque as long as terrorist-sympathsizers like you aren’t allowed to speak or distribute literature there.

And somehow, I doubt your claim is the entire truth.

You’re using logic, and they’re too intellectual to understand that.

The majority of the people in this country who claim a religous affiliation are some sort of Christian. Yet, Christianity is the only religion one is allowed, even encouraged, to discriminate against.

I totally agree. Logic~I forgot that’s not so common anymore. And I have said more than once that Christians are the only group that it’s okay to discriminate against.

Some residents of Columbia are objecting to plans by one of the town’s six interfaith centers to place a 16-foot cross on the exterior of a new building.

Hell, we got gay designers plastering the sides of NYC public buses with homo-erotic “kiddie porn” ads twice that size. Not that size matters, right?

No wonder they call it How-wierd County.

Believe it or not, Howard County used to have a Republican County Executive. Then Her Smallness, Barbara Mikulski got the nod and things went downhill real quick.

To give people an idea of the elitist nature of Columbia, one won’t find a bowling alley inside the town proper (too plebian donchaknow). ONe won’t find a church building either. they’re known as ‘Inter-Faith Centers’ which is another term for ‘Don’t spread your religious cooties on us!’ Lastly, even if you own your own house and property, the local People’s Architectural Committees will come to your door to inform you it is the wrong color; even if no one can see it from the road due to the 3 sided courtard in front.

Ok, Ok! Then just move the pig farm next to the Kennedy compound on Nantucket Sound and move the Wind Farm next to the Islamic center.
