The stupid party strikes again: “The Change You Deserve”

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 13, 2008 11:38 AM

Oh, dear Lord. The hapless Republican establishment has gone and made a public embarrassment of itself again. Can your hearts take much more of this?

Mine can’t:

Hoping to get things moving in a positive direction, House Republicans will on Wednesday begin rolling out their own policy agenda, trying to showcase their differences with Democrats on issues such as health care, the economy, energy and national security.

In a memo to be sent to Republican members today, the leadership hints at a new slogan building on the change message that has already been shown to have political resonance with a public unhappy with the nation’s direction.

It looks like Republicans will counter the Democratic push for change from the years of the Bush administration with their own pledge to deliver, drum roll please, “the change you deserve.” The first element of the party agenda developed over the past few months by the leadership and select party members will focus on family issues.

“Through our “Change You Deserve” message and through our “American Families Agenda,” House Republicans will continue our efforts to speak directly to an American public looking for leaders who will offer real solutions for the challenges they confront every day,” said the memo prepared for lawmakers.

Conservatives have spent the entire campaign season eviscerating Democrat candidates who’ve tattooed themselves with the empty “change” slogan. So what do the brain-dead strategists and p.r. market wizards of the GOP go and do?

Wrap themselves in “change.”

What about self-preservation? What about sovereignty? What about consistent adherence to constitutional principles?

Nope. We get more insipid “change.”

The crack research staff at GOP HQ somehow missed that “Change You Deserve” is the marketing slogan for Effexor, an anti-depressant.

Brilliant.

The GOP lemmings deserve everything they’re going to get in November.

    12. Include “none of the above” as a choice on the ballot.

So what would you do if everyone did that- wrote in “none of the above”, and no one was elected? Someone has to run the country…someone has to be our representative. If no one is elected, then what? Then Nancy Pelosi picks the president.

Voting for no one doesn’t solve anything. It makes a point that people aren’t happy with the choices- which is a good point- but at what cost? At the price that no one is behind the wheel. And we can’t have that- that’s BAD for America. Think of the time it would take ro run more candidates? At least another year. So we go a year without representation? That’ll never happen. It simply cannot- the world won’t wait, and we couldn’t either.

Also about political parties- I totally agree with you. Do you know that they’re private parties? They’re not regulated by the people, and that’s how they’re getting away with nixing Fla. and Mich. (I actually just learned this a couple weeks ago- I never knew they were private parties.)

The single greatest force in the US economy to affect all voters, regardless of party affiliation and social values, is monetary policy and taxation.

The rest of the “issues” are distractions away from the single biggest threat to Americans: asset evaporation- from our homes to our passbook savings accounts.

Vote for McCain simply because his choice of Treasury Secretary (Phil Gramm) will ensure you don’t go broke by 2010 because your paper becomes worthless.

Check into it. Voting on issues is kinda bullshit anyways because these dogs lie when it comes to socio-political issues anyway and sell us all out in some way.

However, wealth preservation (even if it is just 4 bucks in your savings) is the key this time around. No one is talking about it. There is plenty about “economic growth” and job creation— that isnt what it is about. It is about the money you get and what happens to it once ya get it.

House Republicans Should Call an Emergency, Members-Only Conference
Faced with these election results, the House Republicans should hold an emergency members-only meeting. At the meeting, they should pose this stark choice: Real change or certain defeat.

If a majority of the House Republicans vote for real change, they should instruct Republican Leader John Boehner and his team to come back with a new plan by the Wednesday before the Memorial Day recess. This plan should involve real change in legislative, communications, and campaign strategy and involve immediate, real action, including a complete overhaul of the Congressional Campaign Committee. The House Republican Conference would then vote for the plan or insist on its revision.

If a majority of the House Republicans are opposed to acting then the minority who are activists should establish a parallel organization dedicated to real change. This group should focus its energies on creating the changes necessary to survive despite a conference with a minority mindset that accepts defeat rather than fights for real change (which is what we had when I entered Congress in 1978).

No Republicans should kid themselves. It’s time to face up to a stark choice.

Without change we could face a catastrophic election this fall.

Without change the Republican Party in the House could revert to the permanent minority status it had from 1930 to 1994.

Without change, the majorities of Americans who support the Republican principle of smaller, more efficient, smarter and fairer government will be in for a rude awakening.

It’s time for real change to avoid a real disaster.

Lonewolf, I concur with your observation. The only difference I see between the Republican and Democrat parties is that one is in more of a hurry to go left. We’re being slowly ratcheted to the left. Obama and Hillary are so to the left that we are forced to take McCain as the only real alternative. Yet, McCain would have been considered an extreme socialist-leftist if he had run in the 1960’s with his current values. Here’s an interesting website explaining this concept of “Pressure From Above And Pressure From Below“.

That’s how I think it happened that we get McCain as a “conservative” choice. What is so interesting (and troubling) is that McCain is offered as the conservative, but he is almost as big government as the Dems. Makes me think that the powers are going to try to make a huge power grab this time around, ala the “New Deal”.

    Regards…

    Dog and Ansell show,
Please quit with the Abbott and Costello “Newt’s on first” routine. Back and forth, on and on, “Who can save us???”

Newt is applying for Dhimmi Carter’s old job at the book of the month club. Seriously, is he hard up for cash or what?

    Let’s examine his strategies:
1.) Pronounce that Global Warming is real in the hopes that we get a place at the liberals’ table.
2.) Create a legislative laundry list that would be at home in one of Bill Clinton’s State of the Union Adresses.
3.) Repeat mantra of “real change” ad nauseum.
4.) Incite fear in Republicans of dire consequences if we don’t buckle to embrace liberal concepts.
    5.) Goto step 3.

This is not 1994. And before we start to celebrate the Republican heyday of the nineties, remember that Republicans:
    * Lost the fight over the government shutdown
    * Lost to Clinton in 1996
    * Lost the impeachment battle
    * Lost control of spending priorities
    * Lost all credibility as the fiscally responsible party

So please, enough about Newt already.

Michelle is right about the lame slogan, too!

    How about:
    *Change that Works!
    *Got some Spare Change?
    *Love America for a Change
*Change your oil every 3000 miles, or we’ll send someone to do it for you because you deserve it

BLUF: Conservatives cannot reach people on the same level as liberals.
Liberalism is based upon emotions and fallacious arguments (e.g. sound bites.) Conservatism is based upon thinking with our minds (e.g. policy papers.) Conservatives are noticing, just like the smart kid does in 4th grade, that the dumb, popular kids saying, “Vote for me and you’ll have no homework the rest of the year” while wearing the cool clothes and making jokes wins over the crowd. All the while, the “smart kid” is sitting there thinking, “wow, I have all these great ideas, but no one listens to me. I’m boring.” So what does he do? He tries to be as cool as the other kid and loses at the sound of the other kids’ laughter.
Liberals say, “Vote for me and vote for change and a worry free life.” It entices the weak or lazy minded folks. Of course the media laps this up like a thirsty dog because, frankly, they see the ratings for American Idol and Survivor and know what makes TV-addicted people tick.
So, we have the Republicans who try to act as “cool” as Obama and end losing because A) they aren’t cool, and B) they no longer have the good ideas.
Solution: Republicans need to forget 4th grade and, for once, assume the American people have a few brain cells left to discern a good idea from a bad one. What made Reagan’s ‘64 speech so great? He called liberalism out for what it was and communicated something better. Maybe we should look to great Republican leaders of the past rather than potential future Democratic presidents for effective ideas and ways to communicate them.
