Hot ticket: The GI Film Festival

An awesome event kicks off in Washington, D.C. today. It’s the GI Film Festival, honoring the successes and sacrifices of the American G.I. They’ve got an excellent line-up of documentaries, debuts, panels, celebrities, and most importantly, military heroes. If you have a chance, go.
A few highlights:
On Friday, my friends David Chavarria and JD Johannes debut Outside The Wire: Danger Close. Here’s the trailer:
On Sunday, there’s a panel of milbloggers discussing the portrayal of GIs in the media.

From the halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country’s battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.
is that 2 things that are pro military that have gone on in DC in the last week? the book signing and now this?
must be a record or something.
Too bad i’m farther away, or i’d definitely attend.
I looked and couldnt find out if it’s coming to other cities, do you know?
I met JD at CPAC in February, along with Bill Roggio and Jeff Emanuel. He’s done some great stuff. Outside the Wire is a MUST-SEE. My copy is currently out on loan to my circle of friends.
Here is a link to a trailer for a DVD that I believe is going to be at the festival. You can order the DVD. If the movie is as good as the trailer, it should be an awesome movie.

Hopefully events like this will encourage more of-age men to enlist rather than just giving Soldiers a pat on the back saying, “we support the troops.” Nothing like hearing, “oh, I could never do that” or “I don’t know if I’d want my boys doing that army stuff” to bring a little encouragement to your day. Want to motivate a Soldier? Enlist, praise his accomplishments despite the hardships (rather than talking about hardships alone), and get the rest of the government to shoulder their share of this task. Frankly, we’re tired of the empty “We Support the Troops” marquees and bumper stickers.
undrseige247, That glorious hymn is locked into my iPod, played every day in my faltering ears, and still — to this day, after my discharge in 1990 — provides mountains of goose bumps each time it is played.
“Till there be no enemy, but peace.”
Very impressive! Warms my heart! I’m with aj, are they touring?
thanks radio….
One other note:
/shameless plug on:
I wrote a column many years ago, called Yellow Magnets Aren’t Enough. A later column, called Let’s Hear it for the Wives! Enjoy!

It’s more like locked into my brain, everytime I see a Marine hear about a Marine the song pops into my head, I have the same reaction to it when I hear it. I am honored to have served my country under the name Marine. Uhra! Semper Fi
I do so wish I could attend, but I have to work over here in the other Washington. But thanks Radio Relay for that link. I can go that route instead ! Carry on……
It is about time somebody praised some of America’s REAL heroes.
The Left forget: Freedom’s not Free.

I go to these sites to see the beautiful young faces who are willing to put it all on the line.
Started out as a Navy Corpsman, ended up a Marine. I proudly served with the Marines in Vietnam & to this day consider myself a Marine. Uhra
Looks very good, but having spent 12 months in Anbar and 3 more rounding out the surge to the south of Baghdad, I think I will wait a while! I haven’t even organized all of my own pictures yet. Maybe I will set them to a good soundtrack; I liked the music in the trailer.
I wanna go!!! I hope they come to the “other” Washington as well! At least it’s happening somewhere!!
I can’t wait for the film fest to come here to Boston…oh yeah, I keep forgetting.
Never mind. I’ll have to order the DVD.
This should have been the nightly news and weekend section of the dead tree media.
Instead we’ve spent at least five years looking for the My Lai Massacre of today, the soldier/killer who comes apart back in the States and kills self or others, etc., etc., etc. What a shame, with so many wonderful military folks doing so many good and brave things.
Well stated undrseige247

Ever look on Heavens scenes
They will find the streets are guarded by
The United States Marines
OOHRAH!!!
I just now saw a video on CNN which shows LAFCA president Lael Loewenstein saying its ok now to poke fun at 9/11 and other terrorist stories.

When done in DC, I think them boys should take that show on the road! You know…all around the country.
Where do I buy my ticket?
Wish it were here.
