How about Professor Tancredo?
GOP Rep. Tom Tancredo answers the pseudo-call of the University of Colorado at Boulder for a conservative professor. I like it. Har:
U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) today sent in an application for the new conservative professor job at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Tancredo, a former teacher, was excited that the liberals on the CU staff decided to diversify their educational programs.
I should be the clear favorite for the job, Tancredo said. Who doesnt want a slightly used Congressman, with a 98% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union, educating their children?
As for his references, Tancredo listed conservative commentator Pat Buchanan as well as the entire Minutemen organization.
The Tancredo suggested curriculum would include Western Civilization and the threat of Islamofascism, English Only 101, and American Assimilation, which would replace Chicano and ethnic studies.
Tancredo also plans to secure the border around the CU campus with a 20 foot high fence.

Now that’s harlequin.
I would commute from Iowa to Colorado to take his classes!
ROFLMAO
I can’t WAIT for a response from the college on this. He’d turn that place upside down, and i’d love to see it!
Go, Tom, GO!
I sure would have been very happy to vote for Tom instead of what we now are saddled with as our choice on the R side. I just can not bring myself to vote for either bho or hc.
L
Is this Affirmative Action for conservatives?
I’ll go online and register if they offer that!
Tom Tancredo is still and will always remain the shining star of otherwise dirtied, timid, corrupt and rotting US politics.
Americans, present and future, will pay a heavy price for the foolish mistake of rejecting this patriotic statesman. Personally, I laugh when Americans complain about illegal immigrants and Islamic terror, because Tom Tancredo, who is knowledgable and astute, would have taken the bull by it’s proverbial “two horns” (illegal immigration and Islamic terror).
But then, Americans have a right to be stupid, which comes at the cost of the very freedom to be stupid, if you see the irony.
Will he still be able to be my VP, even while he is teaching?
Tancredo’d need security to escort him to and fro his car everyday.
What Congressman Tancredo doesn’t realize is that when they said they want a Conservative Professor, they didn’t mean they want a CONSERVATIVE Conservative Professor. What they had in mind was more of a John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Christine Todd Whitman type Conservative.
Doesn’t he know how to read between the lines?
Not that’s classic.
I live in Boulder. The liberals here are vicious. Even Tiger Tancredo should be afraid.
Good luck to Tom Tancredo on the application. His presidential run proved anything is possible.
ROFLMAO
I would love to see someone like Tom Tancredo get a full professorship at CU or like schools.
But, as Michelle’s post on 5/13/08 points out, CU isn’t necessarily looking for an actual conservative. They are okay with another liberal on faculty just giving their interpretation of conservatism.
I thought that is already what we have on most university campuses.
Ditto. Now wouldn’t that be hilarious for all the far left nutballs teaching there if a truly conservative professor got so many requests for online classes that he had to turn away thousands of potential students due to limited seats. Lol, at least Tom has a sense of humor. Great article.
I know how you feel. Tancredo was my first choice for President until he withdrew last December.
Neither can I, which is why I firmly support McCain in spite of the La Raza episode.
I am a CU alumni (class of 2003), and you would be surprised how many staunch conservatives there are on campus. You get tough surviving the liberal fire with your morals and principles intact. Having Rep. Tancredo would be great! I saw him at our convention last month and the room gave him a 10 minute standing ovation. He is very respected in Colorado communities.
I would love to see him get the job,but I’m afraid his classes would be interrupted by the don’t taze me bro’s and code pinko types. Can they afford to have someone like him that would teach the truth?
Tom Tancredo for President. My possible write-in choice. His talents would be wasted at CU, all that pie throwing and other childish stuff.
Tancredo is one of the few representatives who have refused to participate in the “spoils sharing” that goes on in DC. I deeply admire and respect the congressman. It’s a
damn..oops… shame an honest man cannot be considered a viable candidate….common sense is an obvious defect in our “democratic” Republic. (sigh)Still voting for you, Congressman Tancredo.
I think the fence should be used to shield the rest of Colorado from the campus.
Too keep the people of CU in, I hope.
LOL good work. Can’t wait for their reaction..
As great as it would be to see Tancredo teaching at CU I’m sure he’ll be getting a letter thanking him for his interest but informing him that they’ve decided to hire someone with better qualifications. Like Ward Churchill.
I voted for Tom. If McCain picked him for VP I would vote for that ticket but I’d still have to cover up the part of the ballot that said “McCain” when I pressed the ‘vote’ button.
It takes a record of scholarship to get tenure at a good university like the U of C. Tancredo does not seem even to have a PhD, let alone scholarly publications.
Contacted by the Rocky, Tancredo spokesman T.Q. Houlton confirmed the news release was “definitely a joke.”
What a shame. They would have been great classes. I would have taken English only 101. LMAO
Oh, well. It was a nice thought while it lasted.
He would have to make sure to bring lots of pie wipes with him to class and take agility courses to learn how to duck and weave … or maybe Ann Coulter could show him how it’s done! You’ve got to love our universities. They’re just so inclusive of all viewpoints.
This kind of post is excellent Troll bait.I’ve been waiting for one to bite.If I could put this on a hook I would always catch fish.I guess he is not smart enough to teach at a “good”university but any Dem will qualify, right lgm?
So many comments, so little typing space.
If i grant that you’re correct, I would also point out that there are many people who are given honorary titles at colleges, or allowed to teach there with like circumstances.
For instance, Al Gore was given Doctor honoris causa from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. I can’t tell from publications if he has a Masters or a PhD, however, and its not listed in algore.com. He’s taught at 4 universities in the past (including the local MTSU in Murfreesboro). I dont see him as a lifelong educator.
Don’t be so quick to dismiss people based on that view. I certainly dont qualify Gore’s global warming hysteria papers and his crap-u-mentary as terribly scholarly.
No it doesn’t.
Ask Ward Churchill.
abstractmind (#33):
It’s true that you don’t need a PhD to get an honorary doctorate. Last year, basketball great Bill Russell got an honorary degree from Harvard. The honoris causa in Doctor honoris causa means: this is a sign of respect but not an academic credential. (Or, more plainly, this plus $2 will get you a cup of coffee.).
Ward Churchill also didn’t have a PhD and should not have been a professor at Boulder.
#11… “TRE” You are right.. They(the University of Colorado)..dont want a “CONSERVATIVE” conservative, any more than the Conservatives want a Real CONSERVATIVE Nominee for President. Could that be why we have the Liberal “Maverick” that makes most of us want to literally throw up in our mouth everytime we see him?? You Betcha..I Don’t think I’m up for four more years of regurgitating my Meals.
Well, I am not sure if Tancredo is really a doer. All I have seen from him is talking and more talking with no results.
Anyone remember OVERDUE immigration bill he announced last year. After getting excited, I was waiting when this bill would move forward in the House. The bill never moved forward – not because of lack of support or lack of votes – but because Tancredo did not even bother to submit the bill!!!!
I think Tancredo will be the happiest person if we continue to have open borders since he can keep on talking about it and make some cheap name just as doing here. Anyone can give guest lectures, but you definitely need a PhD to become a professor and does Mr. Tancredo got a PhD?
If he were really serious about this, he could have searched and persuaded a real conservative professor to apply for this and then do some pressurizing on University board or market the professor so that CU-Boulder hires him. But no – Tancredo is not interested in getting real results.
Heck. I would transfer.
I was listening to Mike Rosen (a conservative talk show in Denver) today. His show was pretty much entirely on this topic. I guess he had been working with CU Chancellor Bud Peterson, to get an endowed conservative chair in the Political Science Dept. That’s a little different than a regular professor.
Too bad that Tancredo isn’t interested. Just joking about applying is driving the lefties nuts at CU.
Go, Tom, Go !!
Would love to take a class under Professor Tancredo –
I understand. And thank you for backing my post up and agreeing with me
Later folks!
I’ve seen Tom Tancredo debate. He doesn’t need any job that requires speaking articulately in front of a large group of people.
Not if you toe the politcal line. Probably most ethnic studies departments in America have exceptions.
I’ve seen mistressjustice debate and she doesn’t have a clue. Ideology trumps everything with libs.
It seems Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn found Universities that needed terrorists on their staffs.
You think Tim McVeigh would have been hired for ROTC???
Imus Tells people to stop saying he called Gwen Ifill a Cleaning Lady. Paging Mr Garbus, Paging Mr Martin Garbus. Gwen Ifill talking smack, I am not sure but this must have something to do with ABC and Diversity.
http://imustimes.wordpress.com/2008/05/14/imus-ifill-throwdown-next-time-its-garbus/
I tried not to laugh, but I failed at the attempt. But at least you conceded that UoC-Boulder already broke that fake premise by having Churchill on their staff.
UofC-Boulder hiring preferences
So much for hiring based on credentials and actual knowledge in a particular subject area. Diversity first people, we get more money for diversity! And we wonder how we end up with places like U of C – Boulder being labeled as one of the most liberal colleges in the country.
It’s an affirmative action PC job, not a regular professorship. The CU campus has 825 faculty members and only 23 of them are registered Republicans. And those are probably all in the hard sciences.
The problem of leftist teachers injecting leftist principles into every subject would still exist.
The fence would have to be around the entire county, the same leftist BS has infected the high schools and places like Longmont, where my BDS sister-in-law lives.
Tom’s just waiting for McCain to announce that he, Tancredo, has been selected for the VP spot. Tanc is McCain’s first and only choice really.
Really, I promise, a genuine dem or liberal promise. ( in other words,I’ve got a week or so to tell you what I really meant to say)
can you see it now?
Tom , John and Juan all in the same room…heh, my $’s on the Tanc.
Tom in 2012!
THAT should piss off those ponytailed 60s retreads real good ! This is a man that actually fights back. If it does happen, sparks gonna fly………
Common Sense said (#48):
I don’t doubt that this is true but I wonder how you came to know it. Do you know how many are registered Democrats? Probably most faculty are not registered in either party.
The U of C has hundreds of faculty in “nonpolitical” departments like math, science, and engineering. Do you know why even these faculties are so solidly liberal? Maybe its because thoughtful people tend to be liberal?
“You don’t get it, do you? I’m not trapped in here with all of you… you’re all trapped in here with me.”
That particular quote comes to mind when I think of Tancredo going to UC Boulder.
I’m thoughtful and I’m not liberal.
Ward Churchill is liberal and he’s not thoughtful.
Tom, I wish we had you at the top of the ticket.
You aren’t the best orator in the bunch but I’d take a straight shooting, USA loving, butt kicking guy any day of the week over the pack of weasel wieners we have now.
We need a guy who has a pair running the show.
clarification:
Pair of good shoes… Lot of walking around involved in running a show. sorry.. I was wound up just thinking about the rino gang.
Ward Churchill was hired with no PhD, given tenure a year later (generally reserved for a PhD professor with 6 years experience), and became chair of the Ethnic Studies department. Typical liberal double standard.
If Mr. T were a teacher there- I’d encourage my “kid” to enroll. Does U of C have decent computer and math program?
BTW- I have a degree in sp. Ed. w/LOTS of extra courses + 10 yrs teaching exp. + HomeSchooled my “kid” to one of the M. Academies-do you think I could get a position there? I’d be a site better than Churchill.
Fixed it for you.
He could always get an honorary degree. I think he deserves one.
Actually, LGM, not every professor has the highest degree in their field, it’s more or less bragging rights for college admissions flyers that are sent in the mail to recruit students for liberal indoctrination.
Rep. Tancredo’s website states that “he headed up the Independence Institute, a libertarian think tank based in Golden, prior to being elected to Congress in 1998.” http://tancredo.house.gov/about_tom.html
IMO, working at a think tank MIGHT be good experience that could carry over to an academic position at a university.
No LGM, GUTLESS people tend to be Liberal. Now go hug a tree. They don’t fight back, we do.
Maybe if “thoughtful people” (read it: touchy feely) tend to be liberal, then thinking people (read it: logical, deep thinkers) tend to be conservative.
As for “nonpolitical departments,” how do you define this? You are in a math department, yet you are clearly political, so how does this figure? Frankly, the fact that you can state that these “nonpolitical” departments are solidly liberal is tacit admission that they are in fact political.
To wit: take a look at the economic department headed by on Micheal Meeropol, who is the son of convicted traitors Ethel and Julius Rosenberg and is unrepentantly liberal. He frequently writes in the Springfield “Republican,” denouncing any plans to reform Social Security etc. and taking stabs at Bush in the process. Oddly enough, his subordinates in the department also occasionally write in the paper, and have opinions that agree with Meeropol. Ya think there is a bit of a bias in the selection of tenure tracks there?
Yet he was. And why? Because he claimed to be an American Indian and was essentially a crackpot liberal. I doubt a “crackpot” conservative with the same credentials would have been considered, much less hired.
Yeah, tell that to James Miller of Smith College. Read his trials and tribulations for being an “out of the closet” Republican, and how the liberal profs of his department tried to derail his tenure appointment, and how this was aided and abetted by the AAUP.
Oh yeah, and ask why Professor Jennie Traschen, of the “nonpolitical” physics department at UMASS Amherst was busy denouncing the U.S. flag as a symbol of terrorism at a selectmen’s meeting on 9/10/01.
I would love to see Rep. Tancredo become a professor. Somehow, I think with the current mindset of academia it will never happen. Of course, he would make a much better candidate than what we have now.
americangrunthog, I share your wish very strongly.
What a hoot! Go Tom!
I want to see the reasons for them turning him down because we may have to sue for discrimination.
Hey, CU morons…be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
Chances for Tancredo to become a Professor of anything at C.U. -
1) None
2) Zero
3) Both of the above
Sorry, boys and girls, I lived in Boulder County for nine long years. It isn’t going to happen. It would be equivalent to Billy Graham becoming an instructor in Christian Studies at a Saudi Arabian Mosque.
How about adding, 4) None of the above.
Tancredo is a all-talk-no-work kind of person. He will be most happy if the problem persists so that he can keep talking. Check out my post at 37 on why I say so.
I used to wonder why lgm never replied to my retorts to his thread defecations.
Now I don’t.
