How about adding, 4) None of the above.

Tancredo is a all-talk-no-work kind of person. He will be most happy if the problem persists so that he can keep talking. Check out my post at 37 on why I say so.

Sorry, boys and girls, I lived in Boulder County for nine long years. It isn't going to happen. It would be equivalent to Billy Graham becoming an instructor in Christian Studies at a Saudi Arabian Mosque.

What a hoot! Go Tom!

I want to see the reasons for them turning him down because we may have to sue for discrimination.

Hey, CU morons...be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

I would love to see Rep. Tancredo become a professor. Somehow, I think with the current mindset of academia it will never happen. Of course, he would make a much better candidate than what we have now.

Oh yeah, and ask why Professor Jennie Traschen, of the "nonpolitical" physics department at UMASS Amherst was busy denouncing the U.S. flag as a symbol of terrorism at a selectmen's meeting on 9/10/01.

Common Sense said (#48):

The CU campus has 825 faculty members and only 23 of them are registered Republicans. And those are probably all in the hard sciences.

I don’t doubt that this is true but I wonder how you came to know it. Do you know how many are registered Democrats? Probably most faculty are not registered in either party.

The U of C has hundreds of faculty in “nonpolitical” departments like math, science, and engineering. Do you know why even these faculties are so solidly liberal? Maybe its because thoughtful people tend to be liberal?

Maybe if "thoughtful people" (read it: touchy feely) tend to be liberal, then thinking people (read it: logical, deep thinkers) tend to be conservative.

As for "nonpolitical departments," how do you define this? You are in a math department, yet you are clearly political, so how does this figure? Frankly, the fact that you can state that these "nonpolitical" departments are solidly liberal is tacit admission that they are in fact political.

To wit: take a look at the economic department headed by on Micheal Meeropol, who is the son of convicted traitors Ethel and Julius Rosenberg and is unrepentantly liberal. He frequently writes in the Springfield "Republican," denouncing any plans to reform Social Security etc. and taking stabs at Bush in the process. Oddly enough, his subordinates in the department also occasionally write in the paper, and have opinions that agree with Meeropol. Ya think there is a bit of a bias in the selection of tenure tracks there?

Ward Churchill also didn’t have a PhD and should not have been a professor at Boulder.

Yet he was. And why? Because he claimed to be an American Indian and was essentially a crackpot liberal. I doubt a "crackpot" conservative with the same credentials would have been considered, much less hired.

It takes a record of scholarship to get tenure at a good university like the U of C. Tancredo does not seem even to have a PhD, let alone scholarly publications.

Yeah, tell that to James Miller of Smith College. Read his trials and tribulations for being an "out of the closet" Republican, and how the liberal profs of his department tried to derail his tenure appointment, and how this was aided and abetted by the AAUP.

Rep. Tancredo's website states that "he headed up the Independence Institute, a libertarian think tank based in Golden, prior to being elected to Congress in 1998." http://tancredo.house.gov/about_tom.html

IMO, working at a think tank MIGHT be good experience that could carry over to an academic position at a university.

He could always get an honorary degree. I think he deserves one.

Actually, LGM, not every professor has the highest degree in their field, it's more or less bragging rights for college admissions flyers that are sent in the mail to recruit students for liberal indoctrination.

BTW- I have a degree in sp. Ed. w/LOTS of extra courses + 10 yrs teaching exp. + HomeSchooled my "kid" to one of the M. Academies-do you think I could get a position there? I'd be a site better than Churchill.

Ward Churchill was hired with no PhD, given tenure a year later (generally reserved for a PhD professor with 6 years experience), and became chair of the Ethnic Studies department. Typical liberal double standard.

Tom, I wish we had you at the top of the ticket.
You aren't the best orator in the bunch but I'd take a straight shooting, USA loving, butt kicking guy any day of the week over the pack of weasel wieners we have now.

We need a guy who has a pair running the show.

clarification:
Pair of good shoes... Lot of walking around involved in running a show. sorry.. I was wound up just thinking about the rino gang.
