No sanctuary for illegal alien students

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 14, 2008 10:52 AM

I can hear ACLU and La Raza/The Race lawyers stampeding to file their lawsuits now, along with the NYTimes editorial writers and Barack Obama supporters preparing to lambaste this community college system’s decision as an act by “bitter” people “clinging” to the rule of law.

Good for them:

The N.C. Community College System will no longer allow illegal immigrants to enroll in curriculum degree programs.

Community college officials made the announcement on Tuesday in response to recent advice from N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office.

“We asked the Attorney General’s Office for clarification of our present policy and will abide by their advice,” N.C. Community College System President R. Scott Ralls said in a statement. “We will continue to be a primary source of economic advancement for the state by providing world-class education and work force training to every student eligible to enroll.”

Tuesday’s announcement reverses the policy updated in November, which stated all 58 community colleges could admit illegal aliens who pay out-of-state tuition, are 18 years or older and high school graduates. At the time, the Attorney General’s office supported the N.C. Community College System’s “open door” policy.

Cooper’s office suggested to community college officials last week to drop the open admissions policy. Under federal law, the state would have to pass a law to allow illegal aliens admission to community colleges, the office said.

From sanctuary nation to sovereign nation. One step at a time.

Maricopa County (the one with the Phoenix metroplex in it) passed Prop 300 last year passing into law:

Proposition 300, passed by Arizona voters in November 2006, stipulates that college students who are not legal United States citizens or are without lawful immigration status must pay out-of-state tuition, and that persons who are not United States citizens and who are without lawful immigration status are not eligible for financial assistance using state money. The law requires that those who are not citizens or legal residents pay out-of-state tuition

Good to see other states following suit.

It is my opinion that beneath the radar of the MSM there is a quiet revolution taking place.

The people who make this country work, just like these folks in NC are fed up.

This is great because it shows where the real power is in this country. Of course there will be push back from the left, when is there not, but that push back is becoming less and less effective every day.

While the MSM will not admit it yet, we are winning, and for those touchstone issues yet to be fought, we will win the day on those as well.

Never give up, never surrender, loss on a single issue is not what defines us as conservatives.

Our parents and grandparents lived through the Great Depression and never gave up. Who are we to even imagine packing it in, simply because a few liberals were louder than us today.

If found to be true (Which I do not doubt)

Which is exactly why our Founding Fathers explicitly limited the powers of the federal government and I can never forgive Abraham Lincoln or praise him as a hero for centralizing that federal power and usurping legal and sole power from we the people and the states … IMHO it was not in order to preserve the Union but to create a new federal nation as opposed to the Independent but United States we were started as originally.

Again, if this is the case, it is the federal government overstepping its constitutional boundry.

Since the feds refuse to effectively deal with illegal immigration by fully enforcing current laws, who else but the states and local governments to deal with the illegal invasion.

It seems to me that if they KNOW that they are illegal, they should be DEPORTED! Am I missing something here?

Yes, the feds lack the will to do their jobs, intimidated by the usual suspects, LaRaza, ACLU, Demoncratic Party, RINOs, and all other abbetors of the illegals.

Its due time to reign in their influence with our polictians and government institutions.

Other good news on the illegal immigration front with the single largest site-raid in U.S. history by ICE in Iowa…

Federal officials said Tuesday that they had detained 390 illegal immigrants after a raid on a meatpacking plant in Postville, Iowa, in what they described as the largest single-site raid of its kind nationwide.

The detainees include 314 men and 76 women, according to figures released Tuesday by federal authorities. Fifty-six detainees - mostly women with young children - have been released under the supervision of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A similar factory raid in New Bedford, Mass., last year netted 361 arrests, most of whom faced deportation and were separated from their families.

“We’re here to discuss not only the largest operation of its kind ever in Iowa, but in fact the largest single-site enforcement operation of its kind in the country,” U.S. Attorney Matt M. Dummermuth said.

The detainees included 290 who claimed to be Guatemalans, 93 Mexicans, three Israelis and four Ukrainians. Among the detained were 12 juveniles, six of whom have been released…

Here is one of my favorite quotes to drive home the revolving door issue in illegal immigration…

She was instructed to fill out paperwork that detailed her date of birth and country of origin. She is from Guatemala but said she told investigators that she was from Mexico.

When she’s deported, she said she would rather be taken to Mexico, where it will be easier to reenter America.

There are those of us who DO, in fact, report these people to the authorities. We had a house with 15 people in it down the street from us before we moved into our new home recently. I didn’t call the authorities on them because they were hispanic. I did so because they were packing a ton of people in a 1 bedroom house, there were all kinds of shady characters there at all times of the day and night, all of the vehicles that were there that belonged to the people living there were all over 6 months out of date, and their children were running in the street unattended and almost got struck while out playing.

The police were going to charge them, according to their neighbor/translator whom i know, NOT with being here illegally (and they were shown to be as such, which was told to me by said person), but because they were violating a city code having too many people habitating in a house of that size. They were cited for the license plates as well, but nothing more.

Less than a week later, they all packed up their things and left, for who knows where. Once the police were involved, they got scared, and left.

Its when people turn a blind eye to this, and let these people run wild and are not REported and then DEported, that it becomes a problem.

If its an issue where you live, have ICE on speed dial.

I also saw where the Arizona governor is taking a $1,600,000 contract the state had for anti-illegal immigration enforcement from Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Maricopa County, AZ…

Gov. Janet Napolitano ordered the state to end an anti-illegal immigration contract with a high-profile sheriff Tuesday so she can pay for a larger effort to track down thousands of felons around Arizona.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Tuesday criticized the governor’s decision as a maneuver to thwart his efforts against illegal immigrants.

“Dirty politics are at work right now,” Arpaio said at a news conference.

Arpaio, who describes himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff” and is best known for feeding jail inmates green bologna sandwiches, clothing them in pink underwear, and making them work on chain gangs, received praise for his anti-immigration efforts from many who believe the federal government isn’t doing enough to remove people in the U.S. illegally.

But his raids and sweeps of illegal immigrants in Phoenix and nearby Guadalupe have drawn protests from community leaders and civil liberties advocates. Arpaio, a Republican, has also been criticized for letting thousands of felony warrants go unserved while he chased illegal immigrants……

Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, “Improper Entry by Alien,” is the law in question. There are tons, but this is the base for them all, i believe.

    hope that helps :)

Also, to clarify a misrepresentation in that AP article … the raids were not immigrant raids …

The raids were concentrated in areas of high crime … they arrested almost 600 people they were looking for on outstanding warrants and as part of ongoing investigations … 390 of those people turned out to be illegals and were held for ICE proceedings … so the AP statement these were “immigrant” raids is totally bogus …

    Thanks, DL.

I’m not sure if it’s been posted, but knowing what I know about NC and the idiocy of their government otherwise, it won’t be long before they pass said required law and all this will be for naught.

    gayle,

I hate to say that NC will not have a Rebublican Govenor. Bev will win. However if Fred Smith had won the primary we would.

I’m just happy that Scott Rawls did this at the direction of the AG. Scott’s got the balls to do it and I appluad him. What a great choice for the President of the NC Community College system.

    So in recap…………NC

Closes loophole for illegal drivers license…..check

NC closes loophole for illegal Community College enrollment in degree programs……..check

Walter B. Jones Jr, still a troop hating, pro impeachment, tax raising RINO………..check
