The proud Obamas lash back
You know what I have to say about Barack Obama calling the Tennessee GOP “low-class” and “unacceptable” on Good Morning America because of its ad answering Michelle Obama’s lack of pride in her country?
Barack, sweetie, your conversation with ABC News’s Robin Roberts insisting that your wife’s public remarks on the campaign trail be exempt from public criticism doesn’t help my children.
The proud Obamas claim they want to talk about the “issues,” rather than “distractions.” But when the candidate puts his bitter half on stage and his chief public surrogate, what comes out of her mouth is an issue.
Michelle Obama was asked about the ad on “GMA,” but her husband said, “Let me just interject on this.”
“The GOP, should I be the nominee, I think can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record,” Obama said. “I’ve been in public life for 20 years. I expect them to pore through everything that I’ve said, every utterance, every statement. And to paint it in the most undesirable light possible. That’s what they do.”
“But I do want to say this to the GOP. If they think that they’re going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because that I find unacceptable,” he said.
Obama praised his wife’s patriotism and said that for Republicans “to try to distort or to play snippets of her remarks in ways that are unflattering to her I think is just low class … and especially for people who purport to be promoters of family values, who claim that they are protectors of the values and ideals and the decency of the American people to start attacking my wife in a political campaign I think is detestable.”
Obama later added, “I think that the American people also would like to see some restoration of decency to this process. And when you start attacking family members, there’s a lack of decency there.”
The only ones engaged in distraction are the Obamas when they pout about being held to account for her statements and how they reflect his own ideological underpinnings. The Macho Man act is a poor smokescreen.
If the Missus cannot take the heat, keep her away from the microphone.

I thought the Tennessee ad was brilliant, not for its criticism of Michelle Obama but for its portrayal of real Americans who do love their country.
Sitting in a church where the preacher advocates the overthrow of the white government and saying she has never been proud of the U.S.A. is NOT patriotic. Nobody in their right mind wants this type of first lady. If you don’t want her to be part of the campaign, then lock her away somewhere where we don’t have to listen to her.
Obama is obviously thinned skin. If he thinks he and Michelle are getting heat now, wait till he is President. If he can’t handle it, then why not do the job he is paid to do, and be a senator.

As disgusted as I am with all three candydates, this is going to be a very interesting election.
Obama’s wife became a target when he became a candidate.
I would, however, lay off the kids (so far they are still safe, as far as I know) until they start getting before the crowds to give speeches – like Chelsea. She’s now open for backfire.

I agree with TMoney. Candidates and those around them are going to be scrutinized. Its all part of the process.
But MO opens herself up as a target when she makes statements as she has in the past. And I don’t think using the “its snippets of things she’s said” works either. It wasnt a doctored quote or some partial sentence that could have been part of something else. Her statements were as clear and direct as they were offensive and telling of her character.
Again, why would anyone allow the opposition dictate what can and cannot be discussed or debated? The socialist democrats never cease to amaze me with their expectation of “special rights”. Somebody tell the Obama’s to get a thicker skin and stop whinning over every comment made about them.

I agree…when you watch the video, it definitely sounds like he is threatening them. These people are so thin-skinned…and why can’t Michelle Obama be held accoutnable for the vitriol coming from her mouth? Its absolutely relevant that she wasn’t proud of her country, and the TN GOP had the cajones to call her on it. I noticed in that video that Robin Roberts doesn’t press her on it either. The question had to do with these mean Republicans “attacking” his wife, not an examination of why she said what she did.

How does the TN GOP video equal running against the spouse of a candidate? All they were doing is contrasting her words with those of TN citizens who ARE proud of their country, folks that I assume aren’t Ivy League-educated millionaires. Here’s a free bit of advice for Obama. If you don’t want what your wife says to be scrutinized, tell her not to be acting as a surrogate of your campaign. If she acts as a member of yoru campaign, she is fair game, period.
I can see why he is upset about it. If she holds such anti-American sentiments, it would stand to reason that Obama does too. But, it is too late Obama. No matter how much you want to whine about it, she has already said it, it has been preserved for all to see over and over again on YouTube and it isn’t going away. Sorry!

We all know that dear old Michelle O sees herself as the co-Presidential nominee and hopefully the co-President. Listen to her talk. She uses the word “We” as in she and Obama when she talks about change and policy. A MM poster brought that up recently. I’ve been listening more intently to Michelle O and watching her body language. Its clear to me that if you vote for Obama that you get a two-for-one.
Remember the last time we had two lawyers in the Oval office there was the rise of Osama Bin Laden, two World Trade Center attacks, the USS Cole, crappy foreign policy, disrespect of the military, an energy policy that put us in the situation we are in right now, etc.,
Expect more of the same if these two whiny babies inhabit the oval office.
I will not subject our great military to the Obama’s. I will not let the Obama’s set foreign policy or select judges.
McCain is far from perfect, but I’d rather battle him like we did on Amnesty for four years then have two socialist lawyers completely ruin my country.

It is abundantly clear that Obama thinks he can win this election by shutting down ALL criticism of him, his policies, his attitudes, and also those of this wife’s. As soon as any source gets remotely critical of anything to do with his candidacy, he, or his surrogate start screaming RACISM. This is going to get very tired and very old.
It is also abundantly clear that the STATE parties are going to have to be the one to set the issues and objectives for their states because McCain is certainly not going to compaign to compare and contract himself with Obama. God forbid Obama calls McCain a racist just because McCain tries to contrast their issues!! To avoid that, McCain is going to run a duck and cover campaign which will be inadequate for this election cycle.
Since the press is totally in the tank for Obama, there is going to have to be a reach around to get the REAL issues in front of the voters so we can avoid getting a thin skinned, appeasing, snively vapor man crammed down our throats as President.
After reading the NRCC comments section (from Michelle’s top story on this blog over the past 3 days), as well as adding my own, I fear a HUGE loss of seats in Congress this year. If we lost the Presidency to this complete anti-american socialist, I fear for our country. As suboptimal as McCain is, he can at least veto a Congress that will run amuck.
However, I think we have a blanket amnesty in our future for illegal aliens and that makes me so mad I could just spit nails. How did we get to this point?
Someone in the NRCC comments section said we should just start over with a new party, and naming it the Freedom Party. I wish it were that simple. Sigh.

Every single intelligent person that heard or read Michelle Obama’s comments were appalled. She represents him and I think they share a lot in common, which is frightening, if he were to become president.
I believe her views are his views but he tried to pass himself off as a clean cut guy, where she looks like a militant and it shows by the way she talks—and that’s without adding their affiliations. He does need to account for what she said and I love that ad. I read her remarks first thing in the morning and came up with so many things to be proud of in this country. I am sure if you let her talk, lots more would come out.
