TV news crew attacked at Minneapolis tax-funded Muslim school
Twin Cities readers send word that a KSTP TV news crew was attacked outside Tarik ibn Zayad Academy, the Minnesota Muslim charter school. Looks like the administrators were not happy with the results of a state probe of their religious practices in public classrooms:
The state Education Department on Monday directed a Minnesota charter school to “correct” two areas related to religion at the school. Tarik ibn Zayad Academy, which focuses on Middle Eastern culture and shares a mosque with the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, came under fire after a teacher alleged that the school was offering religious instruction in Islam to its students…
…In an attempt to report about the new findings from the Department of Education, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS went to TiZA. While on school grounds, our crew was attacked by school officials. The two men were able to grab our camera and kept it until police arrived. Our photographer was treated by paramedics after suffering minor injuries.

This kind of reminds my of Sandy Wells getting assaulted when he was reporting on the racist school named Academia Semillas Del Pueblo Charter School. LAUSD, wasting more money than we can print.

For some reason as soon as I see the standard issue head scarves on the children, the religious aspect of this school becomes unmistakable. As a religious organization they should not receive public money.
I would suggest that all catholic schools in Minnesota step up and demand public funds on the grounds of descrimination. This would be the quickest way to have the situation resolved by the state government.

Freddy (#15) - all of this is so much worse. Our state funds, to the tune of $3-4M per year, fund this school. One of the large expenses of the school is to pay rent to the Muslim American Society that owns the building and shares it with the school.
So, effectively, the taxpayers of MN are partially funding the Muslim American Society of Minnesota.
There is a local legislator (democrat of course) who wrote a scathing critique of Katherine Kersten, the columnist that broke this story in her 2 articles.
That (democrat) legislator visited the school to ’see’ what the fuss was about. After her visit she said she saw nothing wrong with such a fine school and she proceeded to publicly call for the resignation of Katherine Kersten (the columnist).

I’m pleasantly amazed the local media is even covering this, I’ve had about much use for them as for the network news. My telly is seldom on these days and those short times it is on, it’s not to catch the “news”.
Though Dave Dahl is one of the best weather guys around. He’s worth tuning in. But it’s hard to find local newspeople like Katherine Kersten, who aren’t hyper-PC. I hope she’s not in any danger for her reporting - we’re talkin’ people who go kill-crazy just over cartoons.

Best idea of the day. At the very least, regulate schools on the local level and cease and desist illegal federal control and get rid of the NEA and teacher’s union while we are at it.

mngirl(#20) - I have no doubt that this religous school is gaming the system. I am not surprised to hear of a local elected official that would try to cover for them. I am willing to bet the local media is having a field day with both this school and that official! I am always amused when I hear of a story of a government official abusing their position in an attempt to ‘control the press’ as that can lead to even bigger lawsuits for the government to fight.
What will get the real attention of the rest of the local and state governments is a nice budget busting demand! Clearly, the state and local govts cannot afford to start subsidizing all religous schools, even for one year, let alone all of the years they might be found in arrears for by a jury.
This will force them to correct this mistake faster than anything.
The “Religion of Peace” is trying our patience. At what point does our patience run out? The radical muslim is using our freedom and laws to implant their way of life in our society while making us pay for it.

There recently appear some sort of muslim teaching facility on a side street between University Blvd & Colonial Rt 50 near CFU in Orlando. Only men are allowed in and there are thuggish looking guards at the entrance. It appears mostly middle eastern men going and coming. Why the guards?

If you listen to the audio on the video, it’s clear the camera guy (shouting “Press! Press!”) initially thought it was basically a misunderstanding - that he thought they were pervs shooting the kids or something. Although how you can not recognize a professional news crew I don’t know. When that doesn’t work he says “What are you doing?”
It just shows how dangerous any kind of reporting can be - you have press credentials and you’re at a school and the officials can attack you. If you’re not safe there, then where?

The reporters attacked were from the local ABC channel, so the NBC commentator made a point of saying that the attack was the KSTP newscrew’s fault for violating a police order for them to stay away…of course NBC was welcome on the campus….go figure!

This morning, I heard Laura Ingraham’s interview with the Red Star Tribune columnist who tried to expose this school. Apparently the Demoncrat legislator who supports the madrassa is trying to get the columnist fired! I guess she can now go after the news crew.
Where is the ACLU indeed. The MSA opened this school with the thin veil that this is not a religious school per se but a “cultural” one. If tax dollars can’t directly support a yeshiva or a Catholic school, then tax dollars shouldn’t support a Muslim school either. But the Muslims are starting to get concessions left and right that other religions don’t get, thanks to the useless idiots who support them.
How about the Isabel & Ferdinand Charter School, Home of the Crusaders, right across the street from the madrassa? It’s just a cultural institute, mind you…

The Twin Cities is the biggest collection of airheads in the Mid West. The Somalis are running wild here and no one will say anything (except my wife who’s tired of their nonsense). Pretty soon we’ll be banning beef and pork at all public markets so as not to offend anyone.
Get used to it, the assault has not just begun, it is in full swing. Plato, or one of them guys said “Democracy sows the seeds of its own destruction.” If B. Hussein O. is elected, borders will be eliminated and the entire military will be decimated. He has already said that. A perfect recipe for your & my grandkids, and maybe my kids.
Attacking the news crew might be able to be spindoctored as defensible (how many of us have looked on and wished Bolton, Chaney, or W had physically attacked certain media “personalities” aka moonbats, instead of continue the “interview”)(and it could be plausibly claimed that the school staff somehow believed that the clearly identified TV news media was somehow a physical danger to the students)(with the same skills of keeping a straight face while telling blatant lies that allows them to claim secular school funds while running a militant Muslim indoctrination center)
Taking the camera away is not so defensible. Either the crew was a perceived danger and the police were called to contain that danger while the staff took such minimum actions as were necessary to contain the danger until the police -who would have been already called- arrived at the scene to take control of the situation, or they were attacking for the sake of censoring a marked news crew and taking the equipment away for the express purpose of preventing the creation of an unfavorable story.
And the latter is not supposed to be legal in this country even if it is legal in the countries they devoutly wish to emulate here.
Given the value of the camera, it should be classified as a felony. Depending on the manner of the confrontation maybe even illegal restraint of the news crew.
If the station does not push for those charges, it will happen again both to them and to other news crews across the country (media tends to get up on their high horse about defending the interpretations of law that allow them the most latitude to do their work, at least before Muslims became involved)
Two large tools other than a questionable “right” to shut down the school are 1) remove public funding, and 2) remove accreditation.
With the first, it was stated earlier that they did not have enough money to keep running the Islamist indoctrination Center, so without tax dollars, it would either close or get money that would not be available to use in other indoctrination efforts.
Known as win/win.
With the second, the grades and transcripts are not automatically applied or even acknowledged as going towards secondary education. They would have to take, and successfully pass, the same tests a home-schooled kid would. That would make at least some of the scholastic requirements get some attention at the school (reports of Islamic School curriculum indicate a concentration of efforts in learning Islamic beliefs and Arab culture until the last couple of years of the primary school enrollment.)(anything that bites into that time is a good thing)
Not to mention that many employers treat graduation from unaccredited schools as nothing. So the Islamic Center graduate of an unaccredited school is treated the same as a highschool dropout.
We will see how much spine the Minnesota Media and State School systems have.

I’m not interested in wrath. I just want America to stand up for itself. I want for us to tell Muslims that they are not a special case and that if they want to live in this country, they have to follow the same rules as everyone else. And, the penalties for failure to do so should be exactly the same as they would be for anyone else.
