Question: does anyone know what happens if a Senator cannot work. Can that Seator send in proxies to vote on his behalf? I always wondered about that when they take long breaks from the senate.

I would submit that the comments left on those sites about Roberts and Rehnquist were not even CLOSE to the ones posted here so far. There is a temperence here, even from those not wishing him well, that you would NOT find in your example.

    For the record:

His politics are aside in this issue. This man has blood on his hands. He deserves no sympathy. For decades, he has enjoyed the liberty to live and breathe. He has had children, and lived a full and eventful life. The person he left to DROWN AND DIE in a car had no such luxury. She was never afforded the chance to continue her life. She was never given a chance to grow old and die in her bed surrounded by her family. May whatever lies on the other side judge him accordingly.

I’ll save my concers for those who truly deserve it. Real had it right earlier.

The difference between traditionalist and conservatives vs socialist liberals is the respect for life. Although we are continually labled as people that hate you can clearly see the difference in the responses you find here compared to the responses we have seen recently from liberals whenever something tragic happens to a conservative. (see recent comments towards Nancy Reagan and Jerry Falwell)

I guess when you don’t believe in anything but yourself and when life doesn’t matter you are destined to become very bitter, angry and vile. Does anything define socialist liberals more accurately than bitter, angry and vile?

    Absolutely.

Frankly, whether or not you believe Ted Kennedy has lived an honorable life — personal or political — I cannot imagine not feeling empathy for him in this moment, and my heart goes out to him and his family. Cancer is an awful, vicious disease; anyone who has had to watch a loved one die of it knows it is an incredibly painful, difficult experience. I wish him the best.

Jewels, I’m with you. Any diagnosis that may result in an unexpectedly quick decline in health is horrible for the family and the person. My prayers are with the Kennedy family.

I will pray for Senator Kennedy. Dying from a brain tumor must be awful. I can’t think of anything worse except perhaps suffocating at the bottom of a tidal pool in a ‘68 Oldsmobile. Alone and scared. At 25 years old.

Given all those shows (House, Grey’s) where strange behaviour is blamed on brain tumors (”It’s not him, it’s the cancer.”), wouldn’t it explain (and excuse) his voting record? Makes you wonder how long it’s been there undiagnosed.

Joking aside, I hope he recovers his health, if not his senate seat.

My prayer for them is that they repent, convert to Christianity, get saved, and then turn themselves in to pay for the crimes they have committed.

I do not give a damn what someone on some site does when a conservative dies or faces a life-threatening illness.

It in no way means that I act that way.

Respect for a person suffering is simply that. If you do not have it for political adversaries, keep it to your self.

I do not ask for that which I am not willing to give.

When the history of Senator Kennedy is written, his failings will be evident. Till then he and his family deserve civility in the time of their suffering.

May god bless he and his family with the strength to continue as this terrible disease is unremitting.

It’s not a conservative/liberal thing in spite of what the libs will think. I was actually saddened when Wellstone died. He was as far left as you could get but he wasn’t a bad man.

Ted Kennedy is a bad, bad man.

Not a fair comparison. The terrorists are clearly evil. Their whole MO is to kill innocents. Ted Kennedy is not evil. Misguided, selfish, maybe, but not evil. Even if you include Chappaquiddick I don’t think you can say he intended to kill.

Anyway, if OBL did get brain cancer, I’d still wish he’d catch a 5.56 between the eyes from one of our own.

The KosKids are already lamenting that Booosh and Cheney are not the ones affected by this terrible diagnosis. Classless and typical. Let’s rise above.

Kennedy’s personal life deserves no respect, and his political accomplishments no praise. However, when it is all said and done, this reminds us of how similar we all are. This could happen to any of us, and I would not wish this difficult and tragic diagnosis on anyone. (right_on has a good point though. I doubt I would pray for UBL or Ahmadamnjihad…) But my prayers are with Senator Kennedy. The prognosis is grim, but I still will pray that he and his family do not suffer.

Actually, it makes sense that our commentary could reflect on her, Salt. We are in her house, figuratively speaking, by being granted permission to post our commentary on her blog.

If she is deemed to be surrounded by like-minded people, someone could easily make the leap that she is in agreement with what is said by some of her guests on MichelleMalkin.com.

Make no mistake, I am about as far removed from being a Ted Kennedy fan as you can get. But, cancer is an awful thing. And, no matter how repugnant one might find Sen. Kennedy, his family must also endure the toll it takes on him directly and, indirectly, on them.

May God’s will be done, whatever that may be, and may his family have peace.
