#192 EQ said, “Being the age I am, I only vaguely remember the Reagan era. I do, however, freely admit I sobbed to watch Nancy leaning over his casket, whispering “Don’t leave me…” at the funeral. How utterly heartbreaking.”
Me, too, EQ. I cried all day.

Mookie, mpChops, and other indignanticos:
Relax and back off the torque on your sphincters.
The Grim Reaper is coming for all of us and we’re pretty much powerless to fight him. The best we can hope for is to laugh in his face.
When I go, I hope to go out in a manner that makes at least one observer chuckle.
Trust me, if Teddy passes and is given a proper Irish sendoff, there won’t be one dry guest at his wake.
he surely won’t be mourned like his brothers.. he can blame that on his political choices..
******************************************
John Edwards, look out.. See what happens when you endorse Barack Obama…
You’re right on the button, Ms. Malkin-
time to put aside tawdry politics, and pray and wish for Mr. Kennedy’s successful recovery and well being.
The fireworks can resume once he’s back in Washington.
I did think it was nice that the Red Sox pitched a no hitter Monday night, for their fan, Mr. Kennedy, too.
It’s not that people are commenting on it, it’s the content of the comments. To say that people are commenting are obvious, and the fact that people are typing words on a message board is not the focus of my criticism.
Even more so, to say that “most have been respectful” proves my point, as you acknowledge that some have not been respectful. Which is why i referred to it as the “depths of humanity” rather than the “standard for humanity”.
I lost two friends of mine to cancer within 3 years of each other just a few years ago. The older of the two was only in her early 30s.
Regardless of my rather strong feelings toward Ted Kennedy. I pray for God’s healing for Sen. Kennedy, his family, and all of us.
that’s funny right there, I don’t care who you are..
Kennedy’s a scumbag, but I certainly wouldn’t wish cancer on him.
Sorry, I find it hard to feel sympathy for a man I sincerely believe has committed treason.
His family on the other hand, I do feel sympathy for. I am sure that there are many decent Kennedy’s out there who love him dearly. And I have no doubt that he honestly loves his family. And while I could never pray that a traitor be allowed to continue his work, I do hope that God will ease the suffering of his family.
Now that is what I call a fitting expression of condolence that I can heartily endorse.
Hi Rose – I wasn’t replying/responding to you in my post there. but to someone else.
But I’ll just say that if God gave me “what I deserve” (or were to give any fallen human what s/he deserves) I’d be rejected by all, deserted by close friends, arrested and given a mock trial, nearly whpped to death, and ,finally, have my hands and feet nail unto wood and then hoisted up to spend long hours dying. After that, I would be seperated from God and His lovingkindness for all eternity.
However, the way of life is that “the rain falls on both the just and the unjust” – but through it all, His mercy endures fprever.
yeh – yeh – yeh
So here we are, sitting here comiserating over Teddy’s Tumor, while the Senate is passing a resolution to take the rest of the week off, for Memorial Day.
Suckers
Hate Kennedy’s politics and morals which is all the more reason to pray from him. I know what the family is in for because my grandfather died of a brain tumor, wasn’t pretty. I’ll certainly remember them.
That kind of thinking truly baffles me. I love the sport of politics but if I ever reached the point where I had that kind of venom towards someone on the other team, it would be time to find a new hobby.
Even though I’m a slightly left tilting independent, I had a huge, huge soft spot for President Reagan. When I was seven years old, there was a massive fire in my neighborhood that destroyed almost the entire downtown of city (Great Lynn Fire, for the trivia buffs). My parents and I weren’t allowed to return to our house for over a week and when we did return, I was absolutely terrified. I wanted firemen to live on my street so I did what any seven year old would do: I wrote the President and asked for him to send me some firemen. About a month later, I received a letter from President Reagan’s secretary, telling me that the President wouldn’t be able to give me my own firemen but I should still feel safe because my parents and the firemen at the fire stations would protect me.
I still have the letter.
I don’t agree with his politics either. It will be weird not having a Kennedy in the Congress.
I have prayed for the Kennedy family and will continue to pray for them regardless of their politics.
You can find more about brain cancer in a online journal by a man called David Welch
at 38 Lemon
Being in the medical field, I have sympathy for him as a patient. Personally, if he was under my care, I would give him the best I can, like all patients. Perhaps, he can be amiable as a person, as long as politics aren’t discussed. That, I don’t know. However, I have little respect for him as a senator, and I have little respect for the Kennedy family; knowing where they come from (Joseph Sr.) and what they are trying to do to this country.
Nothing.
(In keeping with the adage)
Thank you for the quote of James 5:15-16. As a person in the fight against cancer it is reassuring.
I, too, despise what he stands for and has done to innocent people, but I’ll let God take care of the judging, name calling and pointed comments. You know those are the only ones the MSM will quote.
The only modern day person, not counting Hitler, Saddam, etc., I have been glad to see go was Timothy Leary for the damage he did to countless lives.
Again, thanks for the quote. I hope his family is as comforted by it as I am.
Regards,
Gene
Slightly left tilting????
I’m sorry Mookie but you’ve fallen left and you can’t get up.

Well said.
Some Christians spend their lives asking God for mercy on themselves while asking Him for justice for everyone else.
My nephew passed away nearly 3 years ago at the age of 14 due to a brain tumor.
Its something I would not wish on anyone.
Politics aside, Ted Kennedy and his family deserve our prayers. He has mine.
.
wow, i came back to read the posts. i know there are those chidding others for ‘malicious’ posts, but cannot see that these are truly all that ‘malicious’. blatantly honest, yes, but not anything of the vile nature as seen today.
one should not pray for someone unless they are led to by the Lord. and, even if it is the ‘right’ thing to do in your logical mind, if God is not leading you in prayer, well your prayers fall to the ground. so, i say pray as the Lord leads you. if He doesn’t lead you, you are not guilty of insensitivity, He just has chosen you for other prayers.
i was only led to pray for the Senator’s family. period, not the man, so i will pray for them as they go through these trying times and for their up and coming loss.
Well…his son, Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) might feel slighted by that observation.
I think there at least several of the Kennedy clan in Congress, CHS; just not in the Senate.
I agree Michele now is the time to offer
prayers for Senator Kennedy & his family.
Politically I detest Ted Kennedy and believe that he has brought more ruination to our country than any other politician to date.
The millions of unborn babies whose deaths were co sponsored by Ted Kennedy cry for justice. Mary Jo Kopechne’s death cries for justice.
That’s why, despite my loathing for the politician, I will pray for God to have mercy on this man’s soul.
Walldog, a few posts above this one, noted he had a nephew who passed away due to a brain tumor at the age of 14. I imagine most of us have similar stories we could share.
I don’t believe such things are “God getting His revenge”.
We’ll all be alone when we’re judged and we’ll either bear the weight of our actions/inactions/words or that weight will have been borne by the man with the nailprints in his hands. Here’s hoping the senator has the grace to be saved before his time comes.
Luke 13:1Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
I applaud Mrs. Malkins for asking us to prey for him. She is a bigger person than I can be. I cannot in good conscience do so. I feel bad for him, but I truly believe Kopechne’s death is on his hands.
It has nothing to do with my political feelings towards him. I would feel the same way about OJ Simpson or Michael Jackson, or any other overly powerful individual escaping the law.
Now if Al Gore, John Kerry, any of the Clintons, or any other prominent liberal democrat was diagnosed with cancer, I would gladly pray.
I am sorry, I cannot.
Ever ready to swim against the tide, and (truely) meaning no disrespect to Michelle or Teddy, I have an honest question:
Mr Kennedy & his ilk actively pursued policies, laws & positions to advance an ideology that made Hitler’s blood-tally a piker’s score.
Here at home, he hungered after policies, laws, etc, that are the equivelant of slavery, (if you believe I speak in hyperbole, I give you New Orleans).
At what point do we say: “I’m sorry, sir: May God Have Mercy On Your Soul…”; instead of “let’s put politics aside and slobber all over the poor guy…”?
I’m LDS, I’ve been commanded to forgive him:
Would we all “put politics aside” and slobber over [an Ameican] Hitler? I’m not saying Teddy is that — the blood is spread ove more hands…
I am HONESTLY asking: where is the line, and why is it placed there?
For those who say his blood-work is indirect: what of S.Vietnam? What level of stupidity is required to excuse what the American Socialists caused there? And, if we excuse, by ignorance, that, what of the double-dozen times they did the same after?
I think we really need to answer this, so we may move forward w/clarity of purpose. If we don’t answer these tough questions, we’ll never get anywhere, we’ll spend all our time fighting among ourselves.

I don’t wish bad things on anyone. And hope he lives out his days in peace. HOWEVER, this man has single handedly done more harm to this nation with his horrible policies than all other politicians in the past 230 years. I just pray the people of Mass. don’t replace him with someone as bad or worse.
Yeah, that and a host of like Scripture citations also came to my mind, Fineous.
And I agree that the one positive thing of being reminded of our mortality is it causes most to see things in an eternal perspective.

Vic, this is a confusing time for everyone here, but don’t let others bring you down. If you are sensing darkness, light a candle.
Imagine the bitterness with which the Kopechnes, Senator Hightower, President Carter, Judge Bork, (and the many others who he maliciously demeaned, derailed, ridiculed, hurt, etc.) could have allowed Kennedy to destroy their souls with. But they didn’t. They lit a candle and refused to curse his darkness.
Now it’s our turn. Rise above it and go shake what God gave ‘ya.
Martin, you do realize you’ve proven the old internet maxim known as

Well put. Amen…
As I hit send, I thought to add:
We also need to know wherethe line is both for the sake of the Libs & for ourselves. Unless we can articulate our reasons for our actions, the Libs won’t know that we are sincere — and niether will many on our side of this.
We know from bitter experience that the Libs wouldn’t be sincere in an equivelent situation, and people tend to judge others by the yardstick of their own actions and motivations.
I guess that more fully explains the thrust of my question previous…

I once had a spiritual adviser tell me I should pray for a couple of people who had done me wrong. He said if nothing else I should pray that they would get what they deserve. I understood that “what they deserve” would be for God to decide, not me.
I never had a good word for him previously, but am saddened by the news.
I am a brain tumor survivor and if MGH can’t cure him, he can’t be cured.
Luckily mine was benign.
What a terrible way to go.

I will pray for Ted Kennedy’s salvation and that God will have mercy and grace and comfort his family as they go through this process with him.
I will leave to God how He will judge Ted Kennedy when he stands before Him as we all will for all the other things I believe he has done that have done serious and wanton injury to many. Millions of the unborn. “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people:and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:27…and “How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge: I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:29-31. For Ted Kennedy’s sake I hope he understands this in his heart before his time comes to an end.
In your case, was a seizure one of the first signs that something was amiss – or no?
Please.
Sir, godwins law doesn’t apply.
read the in Communism’s bloodbook.
And, try to answer this seriously, I posed it seriously
It’s a shame you feel the need to score brownie points rather than address the question.

I’ve been complaining about Kennedy for forty years, from his turn-tail tactics in veitnam that caused the death of millions, to “The Great Dig” in Boston that cost me countless dollars, and I live in Georgia, untill I retired in 2004, and I’m not sure it’s even finished today. I’ve complained about his constant insulting the President since 9/11, and find that contemptible. His crucifying the troops accused of crimes before a trial date was even set, I find contemptible. If I waited until after his death to say this, then 29victor would accuse me of badmouthing a man that couldn’t defend himself, and he’d be right. I don’t wish the man dead, I’m not rejoicing over his illness, it’s just that I can’t forget and forgive him for what kind of a low down person he was, and how he’s hurt the people in this country, and what he did to Mary and her family. I can’t be a hypocrite and say what a nice person he was, and what a good senetor he was for the country. His family has my sympathy, and I wish them well.
A few months ago, I joked with my mom that Kennedy better watch out because bad things seem to happen to people who cross the Clintons.
In any case, for all we know, he may be back on the Hill in no time, just like Snarlin’ Arlen. However, as someone with a family member who died from complications stemming from a benign brain tumor, this is going to be a long, tough road ahead for him and the Kennedy clan.
Purple – began losing balance and hearing on left side. Lesion was pressing on auditory nerve.

“Judge ye not, lest ye also be judged”.
I have sympathy for all who have cancer. And I do have some for Senator Kennedy even though he is a despicable human being whose behavior and policies in his life have hurt other people and our country about as much as one individual can.
It is a failure of our system and especially of the people who keep electing him that a man like Kennedy, after leaving Mary Jo Kopechne to die and cowardly thinking of himself and his career first and only instead of her life, could go on to have an illustrious and celebrated (by some at least) life. He should have been run out of town on a rail at that point, along with the people who helped him get away with it.
My heartfelt prayers going up tonight for Mr. Kennedy, and his wife and children. May God give them peace, comfort and understanding in the difficult days ahead.
I don’t think anyone here is demanding that we praise him. Just that we don’t act like the jerks like the previously mentioned liberal blogs. That being said, Your comment was well thought out and quite on the mark.
Sorry I cannot summon any sympathy for the author of the 1965 destructive ‘immigration bill’ that he last year tried to top with an even more destructive ’scamnesty’ bill. He has done more damage to the USA than any other 10 senators put together. So, upon his demise, we are holding an exuberant ‘Irish wake’. Can hardly wait!! Again, sorry that I offend any sensibilities for my lack of charity. Maybe Mary Jo Kopechne’s family will be more charitable than I can be.
Well, if you can’t say something nice…
The Kennedy name has protected Ted throughout his life, but not from this cancer. Hold him and his family in your prayers people.
“Judge ye not, lest ye also be judged”.
This needs to be put it context. Our choice to not judge is not so that we somehow come out ahead here. By judging others we are not loving others…plain and simple, and that is not our job to do…the precepts in the Bible, Christian tennants are not the foundation for passive aggression – taken in it’s entirety – it is to always love one another as Christ also loves the church and we contanstly pray that he can make this a reality in our lives because in doing so, we become the individuals he wants us to be because it is good.
Live life every moment. Some people’s lives are short. Some, like our military, are cut short in the throes of service to their country. Others live full lives and are at the peak of their game well into the advanced stages of life. Senator Kennedy has survived car crashed, plane wrecks and broken back and years and years in the Senate. By any standard he’s lived a full and very, very rich life. Every day is a gift.
I agree Michelle. I have rarely agreed with Senator Kennedy, but I do hope that God will be with him and his family and friends. God Bless, Senator Kennedy.
Ah, the wakes for the Irish-I always thought the original meaning of the “Irish Wake” was a “wake” of friends and family before a loved one set sail to the US from Ireland because chances were pretty good, you might not see the bulk of those people again but I could be wrong.
On the other hand, the talk of the Wakes the deceased Irish reminds me of a story my Dada (maternal grandmother) told me of her growing up and marrying in Boston (my grandfather was stationed in the Navy there and from AL). She said that everyday she would get the paper and look to see who died. If it was someone she knew in passing it was acceptable for them to go. My grandfather didn’t understand this ritual being from AL but went a few times. He told his parents about this in a letter and they also thought it was strange. My paternal grandparents would tell me the same type of stories when I was young as well. I think when I go, I would like a big party as well. It will be the last party I can give and I want all my friends and family to remember the fun I always had.
As someone else said, the Grim Reaper is coming to get us all whether we like it or not, there is no escaping that point. It will come for the powerful just as it comes for those without. The best we can do is try to live a good life and pray God gives the punishment we deserve.
I will continue to pray for him and his family at this difficult time in their lives.
I will pray only that God’s will be done. Being a christian doesn’t mean suspending one’s grip on reality. It is perfectly appropriate to be angry at this man who has engaged in nearly every deadly sin. He is dishonest, a murderer, and has spent his career fighting those who would put more of Christ’s influence into American society. This is not judgement, it is fact. As for judgement, that can be left to God who will impose his divine judgement on Mr. Kennedy and all of us.
I am perfectly comfortable with that. I will not honor a dishonorable man.
While I would not have wished this on TK, my sympathies are with Mary-Jo. I really would have prefered that he had been voted out of office. He has had a death grip on this country for too long.
Actually, it does – it makes the observation (from the link I supplied):
“As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
(in one of its early forms Godwin’s Law referred specifically to Usenet newsgroup discussions, (ca. 1990) the law is now applied to any threaded online discussion: electronic mailing lists, message boards, chat rooms, and more recently blog comment threads)”
I just simply noted that law was proven in this case, evidenced by your post. It wasn’t at all a commentary on you, “Communism’s bloodbook” or whatever issues you have in mind. It was only an observation of an “internet curiousity” on my part.
I suspect you are quite serious, Martin, but Michelle, our host, was just as serious in saying:
Put aside your political differences and join me in keeping Sen. Ted Kennedy and his family in your prayers as they grapple with the news of his malignant brain tumor diagnosis.
There will be many opportunities – right times and right places – for any/all of us to complain about Senator Kennedy’s political positions, policies, character and actions ad infimitum.
This just isn’t the right day for that and I would tend to think so even if Michelle hadn’t enjoined us to set aside such things for the time being.
(Of course, my view is not binding on you or anyone who would care to discuss/debate whatever issues you feel are important right now.)
I have seen members of my family on both sides die from brain tumors. It is a very sad and a very unpleasant way to die. Regardless of how I feel about his politics or the man himself I would not wish anything like this on anybody. I will pray for him and his family and for healing.
I will pray for Mr. Kennedy. I hope gets through this.
May God Bless and Comfort Sen. Kennedy and his family.
He and his family are in my prayers.
It’s interesting how different diseases can manifest themseles and be diagnosed. One woman I knew was told she should see a cardiologists just from a routine optician/opthomolagist exam. (I believe it was the state of the blood vessels in her eyes).
So far I’ve been graced with relatively good health. I’m grateful every morning that I can breath and get up. Though it’s a bit more creaky going as the years go by.
Glad to hear that your condition was treatable, I hope there were no lasting effects from it or it’s treatment.
Tonight I’m going to drink to that man’s health.
While it is sad, he has lived a long life–much longer than Mary Jo or the countless aborted children his political views have supported. His politics are immoral; what does that say about the man’s character? He’s lucky he has the time to, hopefully, come into God’s grace and atone for all he’s done.
I’m sory, but I’m with abstractmind on this one. Kennedy let a woman die and never attoned for it. I don’t really care how much he took care of his family it’s the actions of a human being that indicate real character content. This man was lost to God long before his diagnosis.
I’ve never liked him. He and his party are a good example of political machine politics, lemmings voting for a name instead of a leader. This man wasn’t a lion as McCain asserted, he was a crapweasel. I can’t pray for someone I never respected.
Yes, others can offer their prayers and while that is very kind-hearted it’s a waste. Your time would be better spent praying for the people like our military who’ve sacrificed more than Kennedy ever did for this country.
Wise_man, you’re an example of exactly what I mean.
Look, guys, we’re always hammering the Libs that they emote, they don’t think thuings through.
They look at us as hypocrites and say we do the same. I can’t begin to tell you how many conservatives tell me they believe in what Reagan believed — who when queried, couldn’t tell me thing one about what he stood for.
We need to understand the intellectual basis for our decisions, and how we arrived at them from the emotive days of our youth, or we’ll never have the tools to convince them.
This situation is a perfect example. Some attack me because I pointed out that Kennedy time & again sided with people who’s only desire was power at the cost of enslavement & death of whole peoples.(those of you who don’t beleive he did, I’ll give one example, then cease to respond to you for your lack of seriousness: Kennedy broke our laws to give to the Soviets in an attenpt to stop Reagan. They didn’t trust him enough to fully move based on what they gave him. If Teddy’d been successful, the Berlin wall might never had come down…)
Why do we forgive that? I know why I do it… in addition to it being a command from God:
I do it because, while I may not feel able to forgive him and feel sorrow for him today, or tomorrow, or even the next day, my intellect tells me I should feel mercy & compassion for a fallen foe, so I’ll keep practicing at it, wanting it, praying for the ability to do it, until I master my emotional self… because I am not a beast, I control my emotions, not they me.
That is why it is so important to “go there”, because the hallmark of Liberalism is unbridled emotions… look at what they glorify: it reduces Man to a Beast. If we don’t provide an example , while showing them that it’s not that we’re made different, but that we
work at it, we might make headway.
We can show that there is a way from there to here. At the same time by defining our reasons behind our positions, we can grant mercy with out being weak, (like “compassionate conservatism”…), because we’ll know what the boundaries are.

WOW!, I made the “depths of humanity” for saying something another poster said was funny? Ok, maybe I shouldn’t have thought it was funny, but “reaching the depths” seems a bit extreme.
Anyhow, the post are gone now and I wish his family well….feel better?
Purplepeep, you’re wrong, post a throwaway email address, and we’ll take this private.
I absolutely MUST go, be back later…

emjem – Why cannot someone pray for both our troops and for the Kennedy family? If prayer is a “waste of time”, why pray for the miltary?
God: the ultimate term limit.
Pray for him, pray for the family, pray for us all.
sic transit gloria mundi
Christians,
Senator Kennedy will answer before God for his actions here on Earth, probably very shortly. Mercy and forgiveness do not supercede the necessity for justice, but listing his offenses will not satisfy justice, no matter how accurate the list may be, OK? Now is the time to reflect that, for the grace of God, we might be in his position, and to be thankful that when we are called before the throne of God, Christ will name us as one of His own. We are all sinners, correct?
Also, not only are we commanded to pray for our enemies, we are also commanded to pray for those in positions of authority. This would be an excellent time to obey that.
We can talk about his record later. Now is not the time.
I have gut feeling that it’s pretty shallow at mpChops’ end of the humanity pool. Hope he has one of those cool dolphin slides.
The comments have been fascinating.
I honestly don’t know what happens to us after we die. But, I’ve never heard a theory that states that your salvation, damnation, karma or whatever(pick your theory) is dependent on other people’s opinions of you.
Soon, Sen Kennedy’s fate will be beyond anything we can control. I personally choose to wish him well, despite our differences.
It always was.
Why don’t you think you shouldn’t have thought it was funny, and more than that, why do you think it was appropriate to comment that it was funny?
I ask because I personally feel the apathy the we have for each other is very much the depths of humanity, and that apathy has allowed very inhumane things to happen.
Not all will understand and colorful pictures will better suit them, but you at least seem to agree that it was, at the very least, inappropriate.
Leave your honesty at the door on this one hey Michelle?
Sorry, ban me if you will but I simply can not do it!
Where is the empathy for Mary Jo?
Perhaps I should get on my knees and say a prayer before I pretend…yes?
I’m sorry, Martin, I dont have the the time or interest on anything here to take anything “private”. (That’s not to put you down or trivialize yout topic.)
I don’t think there’s anything at all wrong with you pointing out here any flaws in my reasoning, though.
I’m just not going to bash Ted Kennedy, at least for today, or to rationalize his being diagnosed with a horrible condition (much less celebrate it).
For those of you who say it is unChristian to NOT pray for Kennedy’s HEALING, and COMFORT at a time like this, I ask you, what say you to the Apostle Paul, who knew the value of forgiveness of sins more than we all, as the number of folks he tortured and killed was never named for sheer weight, and then God Himself sovereignly intervened in his life and made him the primary evangelist for the Gospel among the Gentiles, by the end of the Book of Acts, and who wrote more than half the New Testament?
He has the authority, not only of the Anointing of His Apostolic MAntle and of being a primary writer for the Bible Scriptures, but also by virtue of his personal testimony of a life of being found FIGHTING AGAINST GOD HIMSELF, and thus found LACKING, though NOT a CRIMINAL, but still a man who KILLED THE SAINTS, believing himself to be doing God a favor in so doing.
Here we deal with a man, Ted Kennedy, who is a SELF-PROFESSED Catholic, declaring himself to be a Member of the Church, a Christian IN GOOD STANDING WITH GOD AND MAN AND THE CHURCH, who is in fact an unprosecuted and unpunished MURDERER, and a man who has perpetrated much evil on the United States of America as head of the Kennedy Machine in Massachusetts, and a Senator in Congress writing LAWS after being it known in EVERY PUBLIC QUARTER of the PLANET that he murdered, and then was KEPT ELEVATED in high political places of honor, called “Distinguished”, and every other good name, but what he is.
He is a “Christian Brother” who has done morally wrong and reprehensible acts, and has been admonished “MORE THAN 3 TIMES IN HIS LIFE and has NOT seen fit to REPENT, PUBLICLY, which would be called for UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, si nce his HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS have had such astronomically high profile.
And THIS is what the Apostle Paul had to say on the matter:
1 Corinthians 5 (entire Chapter, please):
1 Corinthians – Chapter 5
1Cr 5:1 ¶ It is reported commonly [that there is] fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.
1Cr 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
1Cr 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, [concerning] him that hath so done this deed,
1Cr 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Cr 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1Cr 5:6 Your glorying [is] not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
1Cr 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
1Cr 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth.
1Cr 5:9 ¶ I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
1Cr 5:10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
1Cr 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
1Cr 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
1Cr 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
THEN AFTER REPENTANCE:
2Cr 1:23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.
2Cr 1:24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
2 Corinthians – Chapter 2
2Cr 2:1 ¶ But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.
2Cr 2:2 For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
2Cr 2:3 ¶ And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is [the joy] of you all.
2Cr 2:4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
2Cr 2:5 But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.
2Cr 2:6 Sufficient to such a man [is] this punishment, which [was inflicted] of many.
2Cr 2:7 So that contrariwise ye [ought] rather to forgive [him], and comfort [him], lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
2Cr 2:8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm [your] love toward him.
2Cr 2:9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
2Cr 2:10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I [forgive] also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave [it], for your sakes [forgave I it] in the person of Christ;
2Cr 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
2Cr 2:14 Now thanks [be] unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
2Cr 2:15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
2Cr 2:16 To the one [we are] the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who [is] sufficient for these things?
2Cr 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
…
(2 Cor. 2 WAS ABOUT REGATHERING THE REPENTANT SINNER AND TOTALLY FORGIVING HIM, THE SAME SINNER THAT PAUL WROTE TO THEM ABOUT IN 1 Cor 5.)
THERE IS NOTING IN ALL OF THESE TWO BOOKS BY PAUL – PLEASE NOTE Chapters 11 and 12 – WHO CALLS HIMSELF THE SHIEFEST OF SINNERS, ABOUT MOLLYCODDLING SINNERS IN THEIR SIN, and rather than asking you to feel sorry for sinners who are suffering, the admonition was they turn such a sinner over to Satan for the DESTRUCTION OF HIS FLESH, in order that HE MAY PERHAPS REPENT OF HIS SINS IF IT WERE POSSIBLE.
He is telling them to save all their PETTING for AFTER repentance AND THEN NOT TO APOLOGIZE FOR DOING WHAT IT TOOK TO BRING ONE TO REPENTANCE.
So it would seem also tha t the PENALTY for one who CALLS HIMSELF A BROTHER, yet sins as the World sins, WOULD BE MUCH HARSHER than that for the man of the WORLD who doesn’t belong to God in the first place, to whom we have a called mission to EVANGELIZE.
Entirely different treatment!
2 Corinthians – Chapter 4
2Cr 4:1 ¶ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2Cr 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
2Cr 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
2Cr 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
…
2Cr 5:9 ¶ Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
2Cr 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things [done] in [his] body, according to that he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad.
2Cr 5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
…
2 Corinthians – Chapter 6
2Cr 6:1 ¶ We then, [as] workers together [with him], beseech [you] also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
…
2Cr 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,
2Cr 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
…
2Cr 7:8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though [it were] but for a season.
2Cr 7:9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
2Cr 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
2Cr 7:11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, [what] clearing of yourselves, yea, [what] indignation, yea, [what] fear, yea, [what] vehement desire, yea, [what] zeal, yea, [what] revenge! In all [things] ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
2Cr 7:12 Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, [I did it] not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.
2Cr 7:13 ¶ Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
…
2 Corinthians – Chapter 11
2Cr 11:1 ¶ Would to God ye could bear with me a little in [my] folly: and indeed bear with me.
2Cr 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present [you as] a chaste virgin to Christ.
2Cr 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
(CHAPTER 11 LISTS THE THINGS THAT PAUL SUFFERED FOR THE SAKE OF THE GOSPEL)
(Chapter 12 is pertinent)
WHAT SAY YOU WHO DEMAND “CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY” FOR KENNEDY – DO YOU DENY THE APOSTLE PAUL TO BE THE AMBASSADOR OF GOD IN THE AREA OF MERCY FOR SINNERS?
Acts 5.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
I believe those are good thoughts for Christian folks to take to mind and heart, GreyFox.
Ted Kennedy & Cancer.
Could not have happenened to a nicer guy!
Wonder how all of you “Christians” felt when Saddam was hung, or when Mcveigh was executed, how bout Bin Laden…..would comments be so rigidly controlled were they the story…….I think not…hypocritical…you tell me.
Ombre Rose, Wow.
I would like to add one more thing, in case anyone should think that I’m totally hard-hearted against Kennedy. I’ve seen the last days of 3 of my loved ones. One in particular was hard to bear… my maternal grandfather.
My grandfather physically/emotionally abused my mother her entire life until she left. He was an alcoholic, much like Kennedy, who never compromised with others unless it served his own purposes. He smoked and drank himself into a hospital bed where I sat next to watching him die of heart disease and total organ failure.
It wasn’t pretty. He was a shell of his former, overbearing self. I didn’t weep for him because he made it hard to love him. I didn’t like that he was in pain but he never attoned for what he did either. I couldn’t forgive him. While I sympathized with his suffering (because I would never want to see anyone suffer like that) I had a hard time forgiving him. His life was a lesson to me in how to treat human beings… unfortunately, there are many who overlook such “sins” and say let’s forgive the overall human being instead of taking in everything the person did.
I wouldn’t wish cancer on my loved ones and while I sympathize with those who have this disease, I feel that to falsely adulate a person who hurt many, who acted selfishly, who also drank/overate himself into health problems serves no purpose.
Yes, we can be above the fray but let’s stop lying about this man, shall we?
Look! It’s the essay portion of mpChops’ application to the Thought Police Academy.
Hey chopsy, in the immortal words of Sergeant Hulka, “Lighten up, Frances.”
I have seen a lot of strong emotion on this thread, but frankly, I have not seen any celebrating – as most have commented, we all have family and friends, or perhaps even some here, themselves, who have Cancer, or who did, or who might in the future, we’ve all seen it way too up close and personal – and I don’t think many UPON REFLECTION think that Kennedy has it AS JUDGEMENT FROM GOD, though they may feel he has it as a NATURAL CONSEQUENCE of his own overindulgent living.
I am frankly very glad that this even HAS THE POTENTIAL of REMOVING HIM FROM PUBLIC OFFICE.
I don’t celebrate his illness, I’m a sinner saved by grace and I would hate it if all my personal foibles were on international display – and I shudder to think what my sins have earned me BUT FOR THE SAVING GRACE OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS, Who alone is my Righteousness and my Vindication.
However, the Bible shows NOT ONE WHIT of need for SYMPATHY for such a person as Kennedy, being too often reproved and rejecting it soundly and emphatically.
Some may be moved to it, and some may be moved to it BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD HIMSELF, I am not one to say – and have already pointed out the case of the Apostle Paul several times in this thread.
The Bible does recommend being overcome with a sense of awe and fear of the admonition of the Lord God and His Holiness.
But I do attack the notion that those of us who don’t have bleeding hearts for Kennedy are somehow HATEFILLED AND NOT CHRISTIAN or worthy of living on this planet. (As I said before – HEROD comes to mind in the Book of Acts)
Because for that, I would just say, WAIT TIL THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE JESUS HIMSELF IN ACTION! Because the next thing on THIS EARTH that Jesus is scheduled for is NOT going to be pretty!
I.e., Ezekial 38 and 39, and the Book of Obadiah! Standing just offstage, waiting to be fulfilled LITERALLY ANY MOMENT.
The sadness and suffering that the Kennedy families have endured is beyond huge. Papa Joe must have really angered the powers-that-be. Not many happy endings. I hope Teddy goes in a peaceful and painless manner. Another broadside to the family.
I say this because I feel that Kennedy was a man without honour whereas I feel our military possesses the honor people like Kennedy pretend they have while acting otherwise.
I never said that people cannot pray for both our military and Kennedy, but I also feel that Kennedy turned away from God. His soul is compromised in my opinion. I’m not a theologian, nor am I a perfect human being but I’m not going to lie to people on here and profess a prayer I neither feel nor would act on.
I’m not without sympathy for those afflicted with cancer or any other disease. However, I would like some kind of perspective to be observed in a forum like this.
First, blade, I don’t like grammar-copping, but the term is “hanged”. “Hung” makes me giggle as I recall a line from “Blazing Saddles”.
Second, to answer your question – when corrected
– I believe in the cases you cited justice was done. Neither wasted slowly away from an awful disease. Even then, more importantly to Christians, they had to face the Judge of us all. That’s an even much more serious proposition.
Third – as far as I know, Osama Bin Laden hasn’t been capyured or tried, much less executed for any crime. If/when that occurs, feel free to re-pose the question.
I lost a twin brother to cancer of the bile duct. He too suffered a stroke, and the doctors couldn’t find the cause until shortly before he passed. I felt like I had been cut in two.
That’s why I will pray for Senator’s recovery. While I detest most everything he has accomplished, no person deserves this illness.
I’ll reserve my opinions on him for another time.
For now, let him fight the good fight for his situation and have the best outcome possible for he and his family.
Absolutely nothing here compares to the vicious hate-filled attacks the left said about Reagan, or almost any other Conservative who was ill or dying.
I have heard that if you can say nothing good about a person, then you should say nothing.
Well, Nothing.
I’m not one to make special suck up to the rich and famous on that basis alone.
Some say this post is funny, some say it is not, some say it is inappropriate, and that to think it is funny is also inappropriate.
I say that while I don’t know about FUNNY – it is EMINENTLY APPROPRIATE!
The entrenchment of Toady Chappaquiddick Kennedy in the Senate, in a prestigeous seat of power as the chairman of powerful powerful committees, INCLUDING THE ETHICS COMMITTEE – THAT is what is INAPPROPRIATE and an affront to the HUMAN RACE – it is an affront to EVERYTHING that is decent and right and good and healthy!
And it is INSANE to tell folks it is “INAPPROPRIATE” to make a statement that he does not belong in the Senate.
NOTHING COULD BE MORE APPROPRIATE than this post #91.
The only thing MORE APPROPRIATE is to say that Toady should have spent all that time ON DEATH ROW after being convicted of the FELONY MURDER and attempted COVER-UP of his MALICIOUS BEHAVIOR, ever since the day Mary Jo was MURDERED by this man.
Some of you guys need to discover the DICTIONARY DIFFERENCE between “Christian”, “DOORMAT”, “ENABLER”, “Passive”, “Assertive”, “Aggressive” , Beligerant, “Egomaniacal” “Powermongering” “Sociopathic” …
There is nothing “CHRISTIAN” about being a PASSIVE DOORMAT – and a RED CARPET and CATERING doormat at that!
Miss Manners and Dr. Laura would slap you three times for THAT!
There is a point at which you have to stop playing the hostess to COMPANY long enough to realize you do NOT treat a GATE-CRASHING GANG of STREET THUGS the same way you do honored guests in your home, and the same is true of your POLITICAL OBLIGATIONS to your community!
Emjem -
Can you point out anywhere here where anyone has “lied” about Ted Kennedy? If you cannot, then you’re making a very flimsy “strawman” argument, i.e, in effect arguing with yourself.
I believe the “worst” you could cite would be Michelle asking us here to:
“Put aside your political differences and join me in keeping Sen. Ted Kennedy and his family in your prayers as they grapple with the news of his malignant brain tumor diagnosis.”
But I don’t see a lie in there, or in respecting her invitation; basic human civility and Christian kindness, yes. But a lie or falsehood(s), nope.
You might have a reading disability. Let me spell this out for you.
No where in the quote above is there a call for you to “Leave your honesty at the door”. When the phrase says: “Put aside your political differences” it means “Put aside your political differences.”
You’re welcome.
