When the shoe is on the other foot
Last week, I questioned the McCain camp’s inclusion of ultra-liberal bloggers in its regular blogger conference calls while excluding this and other conservative blogs critical of McCain.
Nutroots bloggers snickered and mocked.
Now, liberal bloggers are up in arms over the Democratic National Convention Committee’s blogger credentialing decisions, which left many left-wing blogs out in the cold. The shoe is on the other foot. Via Ambinder:
There’s a bit bubbling controversy regarding a backlash to the Democratic National Convention Committee’s selection process for state bloggers. 21 bloggers representing 12 already-credentialed blogs sent a letter yesterday to DNC Chairman Howard Dean protesting the DNCC’s selection process that appears — in the viewpoint of the bloggers — to have been used by state parties to silence critics.
From the bloggers’ letter to the DNCC:
We write to you today out of concern that the same principles that have strengthened our party are today being ignored in the state blog credentialing process for the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer. As long-time progressive state bloggers, we have now witnessed many of our well-respected colleagues from crucial states be passed over. In many states, it appears that parochial politics and hurt egos played a role in these decisions. These concerns run counter to our shared goals of using programs like the state blogger pool to
“tear down the walls” in Denver — and better connect the American people with the events on the ground. The Democratic Party endangers its own long-term viability when it makes fealty a criterion for inclusion.
Unlike those who ridiculed me when I made much the same point about those on our side of the aisle, I wish these bloggers nothing but the best in their quest for access.

The Democrats can have McInsane.
I must admit, I haven’t really been following this situation very closely, but I do hope that it helps Michelle Obama’s kids.
Michelle:
If they ever do credential you and you choose to go. Please bring LOTS of Huge security guards!
They are NUTS!
but of course the difference is that the conservative blogs didn’t start screaming victim.
let em in, in the mens room….. lol.
karma.
I’m coming to grips with the thought of Obamachrist as president. His wife is a bit hard to swallow, but she’ll help kill his presidency just that must faster after we rid ourselves of all these RINO bastards.
We’re being flushed by our government, so it might as well be a Dhimmicrat to do it.
It’s ok when they are dissing our hostess … but out of line when they get the same treatment … the usual double standard …
A possible soution? …
Let me be the first to recommend to the RNC and the GOP in general that one way they can save a ton of money is by holding a joint convention with the rest of the liberals … in Denver …
One can only hope the nutroots and the liberal fringe will do to their party what the RINOs have done to the GOP.
I have only one sentiment for the lefty bloggers with so much venom for everyone.
SCREW ‘EM!!!
So the Lefty blogs are protesting their treatment to Howard the Duck ? Why ? He has no idea whats going on in his DNC ! It is comical to hear these whiners when they finally get the very treatment they think WE should receive daily !
To all lefty bloggers,do you think they care about you, wait until they get total control, you will be down in steerage with the rest of us.
now that they’ve gotten the shaft, what’s the high/low that any of them will see how elitist and full of liars their party is?
Only Michelle cried foul even though people like me who are critical of McCain get on his weblogger calls.
If there’s no room left at the inn for moonbat bloggers, then maybe the donkeys can dust off “The Cage of Freedom” like the one they used at their 2004 convention?
I love that line.
A member-driven organization is holding a meeting and they won’t just let anybody in? If these progressive bloggers are ultimately admitted, well, you can hear the arguments against it can’t you? “If we let you in, then we’ll have to let anybody in, like a…a…Malkin!”
Fealty? Who the heck uses “fealty” these days?
Check the comments left at the “Think Progress” blog…I count six (6) comments before I am able to call “Godwin’s Law.” No one to argue the counterpoint and they ran out of fresh material in just six posts…I love it.
Sometimes I can’t help but the laugh at the liberals, so proud yet so confused in their thinking.
I was not the only one. (Also heard from several other blogs asking how to contact Patrick Hynes.)
And it is not playing the “victim” to question McCain’s strategy of reaching out to HuffPo bloggers before reaching out to more than just a few conservative and right-of-center blogs.
And yet, President Bush STILL sits for interviews with reporters from the likes of NBC, who trash him daily. He can take the criticism, apparently, liberals can’t.
to use a line from the site here, slightly different…
blogging for me, but not for thee is ok with them..until its someone else saying it
LC #17. Agreed, and what a bunch spewing hatred from self-proclaimed “liberals”. They have obviously never read one single post by Michelle.
Keep up the good fight Michelle!
Where’s your fealty for McCain, Michelle? They have that over at Huffington, I hear. I wonder how one shows it.
(Disclaimer: I only land there (HuffPo) when I’m not paying attention to my search engine results.)

Actually, there was outcry — not unlike, say, an open letter to Democratic party leaders — from conservatives who felt they’d been omitted. Including on this very blog.
It’s not weird or “crybaby”-ish that Michelle or any other political blogger — particularly those at the grassroots level — would want to be included in the actual process. They dedicate countless hours of their time to distilling all the noise down for us, on both sides. It says a lot about the image-projection desires of party leaders that they’d be willing to marginalize those who’ve done so much to inspire passion and keep us all in the loop. The DNCC is playing a typical game and I fully understand these bloggers’ frustrations.
They should consider themselves lucky, sounds like the food is going to be awful at the dem convention!
Very typical of the childish left. What a shock to the world if the should ever grow to adulthood.
What is McCain’s core base obviously he doesn’t want conservatives. I can’t imagine one of these three canidates being the ruler of the free world. It takes an “Alpha” they are all “Betas”
There is an old saying:
What comes around, goes around
Laree, after 4 yrs of one of these dolts there may not be a free world.
I griped at the notion that McCain’s team was cherry-picking webloggers who are only nice to the Senator. If that were the case I wouldn’t be invited to any calls. I’m no cheerleader. In fact I’m more anti-Obama than pro-McCain and am ticked McCain has failed to reach out to conservatives. His CPAC speech was lip service.
My guess is a combination of veterans, Reagan Democrats, and Schwarzenegger Republicans. McCain didn’t need conservatives to win the nomination and probably isn’t comfortable interacting with them so he thinks he doesn’t need them for victory.
Never expect any class or fairness from the Left.
You’re a class act, Michelle, which is why your sites are my only daily reads.
Although I am a green and conservationist, so many democrats/liberals are lacking in class and respect for our country’s ideals I can’t stand them or their forums.
Senators McCain and Obama can cherry pick the bloggers for their “official” sites all they want. In this day and age it really doesn’t matter. We are here. They, the Official People, had their run with the MSM and the MSM is losing everyday. We, the UnOffical People, can and do end run them everyday. Senator McCain is counting on a block of voters he feels can go nowhere else. Maybe. President Bush the First tried that crap in 1992 and it cost him a job. We read his lips.
We are screwed in 2008 but the terrible Wednesday morning after we mount up and ride. Ever hear of Valley Forge? Blogg on.
Si Si pueda!!!!!!!!!!
Boo Hoo for them! This will just ruin my day!!! Sarcasm off!
