Congressman admits Dems “stretched the facts” about stopping the war to get elected

By see-dubya  •  May 23, 2008 08:47 AM

Headline says it all:

As Jeff Emanuel notes, there’s an extra little dollop of condescension to leaven all that honesty:

“Now anybody was a good student of Government,” said Kanjorski, “would know that wasn’t true [that they "could stop the war"].” Fortunately for those Democrats who campaigned, and were elected, based on their war-ending promises, their hardcore supporters, their activists, and their base of voters, are all made up of people who are, by Mr. Kanjorski’s reckoning, very, very poor students of Government.

But all of that was justified to these incumbents and first-time candidates. Taking advantage of poor, uneducated rubes? Abusing trust, and leaving those who offered it stranded along the way? All acceptable — because, again by Mr. Kanjorski’s own description, of “the temptation to want to win back the Congress.”

As Krusty the Klown once remarked, “Oh crap, I said the loud part quiet and the quiet part loud!”

H/T to Ace.

Does this really surprise anyone with half a brain? Politcians say whatever they have to to get elected. ” i was for it before i was against it”. I see nothing in changing your mind but to do it for political reasons just shows how shallow and self serving these elected knotheads are.
If you think about this we use to elect common people and revere them to a level of kings and queens. We are now electing people who act and think they are kings and queens who try to convince us they are just as common as the rest of us.

Listen, lad. I built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started here, all there was was swamp. Other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show ‘em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one… stayed up! And that’s what you’re gonna get, lad: the strongest castle in these islands.”

You know, it must be so hard for LGM – visiting a site he hates, reading comments from conservatives he can’t stand. It must be very stressful as he tries to reach his goals in DNC points. I feel sorry for him. Maybe, next time he makes an off-topic comment, we can say something to him to make him feel better. Not answering his questions, of course, but asking him how many more posts he needs to make before he can redeem his points for his signed Howard Dean glossy photo with the little hearts along the frame. It would free up the page from his many attempts to drive the topic from what it’s supposed to be – to whatever new topic he’s attempting to get us to talk about. It would also be a great gesture to him to let him know we care, because he must really want that Howard Dean photo to put beside the nightstand.

I think that he would like that.

If you’re asking whether we’re making progress in Iraq — maybe in some areas. It’s hard to tell.

If you’re asking whether progress in Iraq would bother me — it wouldn’t.

I think it would, judging by your litany of commentaries. As for the progress being “hard to tell,” it would be so only if you immersed yourself in the types of sources that you typically cite. A good scientist (does this include mathematicians?) review all the date before coming to a conclusion. You might find that useful in your “global warming” commentaries.

As for my “wandering rand (sic),” a review of my retort (#67) to your statement (reproduced in #67) seems particularly apropos in response to you point. Was it “wandering” simply because you didn’t agree or couldn’t counter argue, or did it just give you a way to snip it?

Back to the point: what about the solvency of Social Security and the references I gave you (#80)? Do you need further clarification? Please tell me how great SS is, about all of that money just sitting in the “trust fund” (a misnomer if there ever was one; doesn’t a fund have to have money in it?), and that there will be anything returned to me after my involuntary contributions when, or if, I retire.

I am especially interested in your definition of “a little money” in the following quote (your #60): “the Social Security Trust fund is projected to last just fine form many years and need a little more money to keep it going as far as we can do projections.”

And you actually wonder why Medicare is in bad shape? (Hint: run by the same group of gangsters)

…I’m NOT a republican, but none of them are going to say there are 9-11 links to Saddam. Because it’s simply not true.

I will argue that that are links – they’re not the type of links you might think – but there are definitely links which I’d be happy to explain.

And by explain, I mean that I will simply remind you of current events which make perfect sense when linked.

    Bob in Topeka,

Speaking of pols lying to get into office, how in the heck did Nancy Boyda win her house seat? I know her and her husband. Ok people but she is not what I would look for in a representative. I know that I have been away from there for a while but Nancy Boyda?
