Plugs? How about nasal amputation?...

"Sorry, Juan. I went to extreme lengths to try and vote for you, but still couldn't. (Although I did get this nifty T-shirt!)"...

This election is a true heartbreaker; three candidates with no particular love for this country. Yes, all three of them are Internationalist as was Clinton I and Bush I & II. All three of these candidates wish to make American sovereignty subject to international norms. John McCain would make our laws conform to Mexico's Napoleonic code. As in Individual Rights are limited to a very very important people and the rest of the folks don't need them. Juan Hernandez has laid it out rather nicely for the Senator.
I do not feel good about this.

OK....Here's a little "straight talk"

All three candidates are elitist politicians who will pander to any group in order to get elected. They refuse to recognize that the American electorate is capable of seeing through the campaign rhetoric. Washington seems determined to believe that the American people are "stuck on stupid".

We gave the current administration the benefit of the doubt for the last eight years. This includes both our elected representatives in congress and our president. We can rant and rave about the failures of government but we have to remember that WE voted these people into office. And we have to take responsibility for that. And throughout the primary process WE are responsible for the selection of the candidates for POTUS that we have now.

I believe that it is possible to affect change. But it will take time to build momentum. It will require a thoughtful and informed electorate that is truly concerned as to what kind of country we will leave to our children and grandchildren. This will require a long term view as opposed to reacting to whatever the media sqauwked about a half hour ago.

It may require a grass roots rebuilding of the Republican party from local candidates on up. It may require the formation of a third party that isn't marginalized like the current ones. It may require 4 years of Democratic control to incite enough outrage to cure apathy in the voting booth.

We do have a new avenue to influence our government. The e-mails and phone calls to our representatives at least staved off "comprehensive immigration reform" last summer. We can use the web to double check the statement made in the political arena. And thanks to bloggers like MM and others we can stay aware and vigilant when our goverment tries to get out of hand.

We may be screwed in '08...but that does NOT mean we are screwed forever.

Could someone just once ask McCain why he thinks anyone but him and the left buy his stupid mantra of "secure the borders first?"

His statement is patently offensive to anyone with half a brain. It is obviously a poor obfuscation.

greggtex,

RE: post #38

Your post is interesting in that you do not account for the fact that Hillary/Obama cannot just walk in and just do what they want...they have to overcome competing interests -including conservatives within their own party.

We can use this to our advantage as we just did on the recent re-attempt on amnesty...If McCain gets into office it will be perceived by RINOs and libs in the Democrat party, that the great conservative Right can be overwhelmed...at that point RINOs and libs will definitely go for the jugular and WE WILL suffer greater loss on issues than we have experienced to date while under a congress run nominally by Democrat
liberals..

Why have we been successful at not having our agenda rolled back?
1. vigilence
2.more importantly, doubt as to the size and strength of our grassroots power.

You need to try better than post #38

NEWSFLASH- This election is a sham from both views..demons and repugnants.
I think Americans need to wake up that the powers that be are controlling this election from your choices (McAINIAC) to the candidate left standing
(OBOY!-AMA). Keep wringing your hands while your country is raped, pillaged and finally burned down!

You bring up a very important point on why we need to control our borders...The Mexican ambivalence to Nazi and Japanese agents during WWII...

Also considering how impotent the current Mexican Government is against Drug Cartels...

McCain has pretty much trashed any chance he had of winning.

Yes, about 40% of the democrats are saying they won't vote for Obama, but after 5 months of Democrat attacks few of them will vote McCain either.

Moderates are currently breaking for McCAin, but the Democrats are already planning on protraying McCain as Bush 3, and they will succeed. McCain will struggle to win here.

McCain has eliminated the conservatives from the GOP base. Less than 30% of them currently are still willing to hold their nose and vote for him, and that percentage keeps dropping.

The GOP can never win if they don't get the conservatives, and most conservatives are interested in throwing votes in for liberal-lite government ever again.

Sorry McCain, but your ego wasn't listening to the voters very well. Your mouth just trashed the one chance you had of winning.
