Hillary’s foot-in-mouth moment: Will Bobby Kennedy assassination remarks be the final nail? Update: “Regrets”
Stick a fork in her. She may, at long last, be done.
Or will she? I’ll put up a poll, but first, here are the reports of her Bobby Kennedy allusion in an Argus Leader editorial board meeting this afternoon. Spreading like wildfire:
NYPost -
“Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against Barack Obama. ‘My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don’t understand it,’ she said, dismissing calls to drop out.”
“Clinton made her comments at a meeting with the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader’s editorial board while campaigning in South Dakota, where she complained that, ‘People have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa.’”
Obama spokesman Bill Burton responded to Clinton’s remarks. “Senator Clinton’s statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign.”
MSNBC –
NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli notes that Clinton said something similar the day after the Indiana and North Carolina primaries. “Sometimes you gotta calm people down a little bit. But if you look at successful presidential campaigns, my husband did not get the nomination until June of 1992,” she said. “I remember tragically when Senator Kennedy won California near the end of that process.”
In fact, the specter of assassination was first raised in this campaign on January 8, when a Clinton introducer, a retired teacher from New Hampshire, brought it up before Clinton spoke. “If you look back, some people have been comparing one of the other candidates to JFK, and he was a wonderful leader. He gave us a lot of hope,” the retired teacher said. “But he was assassinated, and Lyndon Baines Johnson actually did all of his work and got both the Republicans and Democrats to pass those measures.”
ABC –
The Clinton camp explained, “She was simply referencing her husband in 1992 and Bobby Kennedy in 1968 as historic examples of the nominating process going well into the summer. Any reading into beyond that would be inaccurate.”
Hot Air’s Allahpundit links to a video snippet of the remarks. “Exit question: Will the number of Democrats who want her out of the race still be in decline after this?”

OK, weigh in:
***
Commenter John A.: “Hillary and Huckabee sitting in at tree…”
***
Update: She regrets it. For once, I believe her:
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton quickly apologized Friday after citing the June 1968 assassination of Robert F. Kennedy in defending her decision to keep running for the Democratic presidential nomination despite increasingly long odds.
ADVERTISEMENT“I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation and in particular the Kennedy family was in any way offensive. I certainly had no intention of that whatsoever,” the former first lady said.

I think everyone is ignoring how narcissistic both Hill and Bill are. She probably thinks that she is the victim of a sexist (character) assasination on the part of the MSM, hence the refence to a real and tragic victim, Bobby Kennedy.
A gaffe has been defined as a politician unintentionally telling the truth. In this instance, as the New York lottery pitchmen say, “Hey, you never know.”
Yogi Berra-
“It ain’t over, ’til the fat lady sings!”
Hillary Clinton-
“La Don-na Mobile-eh..?”
“..and, ya know, I’m from Arkansas, and I’ve learned from personal experience, from ‘day one,’ that, ya know, anything can happen when a Clinton is running for, or from, anything,” she added.
#92
Agree with a twist. They, like any politician, are certainly narcissistic. Their “problem” (ours?), is that they are, without a doubt, sociopaths. Remorseless, eating machines (ok, “Jaws” was on recently). Human garbage. This would be no problem if approximately half of our population weren’t stupid enough to adore them. They are not the problem we face. Nor is the racist Obama family and their followers-who are gonna “git you sucka”. Our problem is the millions of idiots who were raised, uh, poorly, by idiots who grew up watching MTV and ESPN. Compound that with the staunch conservatives who nevertheless are scared to death to “call a spade a spade”, and this great country is in big trouble…
It’s all ’bout da’ ‘Bama, don’t ya know.
But, now that his thugs have mentioned it, maybe it is possible that a Communist with Muslim ties might not be everybody’s favorite for POTUS.
What has me laughing is the libtard need to defend what she said.
It was beyond stupid.
But libtards think they can defend the content. It was a stupid way to illustrate her point. If any Republican had used the analogy libtards would by shyting their already piss stained panties.
Storm in a teacup.. but then again, the media are under the Obamessiah spell now, so they’ll likely make sure the storm stays out of the teacup.
Nyc123me, it’s a typical ham handed Rodham story.
Imagine Obama told Clinton to take the VEEP job, because. Bill was impeached twice, you never know!! If I (Obama) should get impeached and removed, you could be President. Rodham was tasteless and desperate.
Per usual.
HRC and B Hussein O seem to speak, for the record in public, before their thought process is engaged. This has happened on a more frequent basis lately.
Now, that may work well for School Boards or perhaps City Council meetings in smalltown America but Senators in pursuit of the highest office in the Nation?
They are not fit for the offices that they currently hold.
Overly Ambitious types, Affirmative Action Types, Entitled types, Racist, Sexist and Marxist types, financed by America Hating Soros types are neither qualified for higher office or accepable.
And please remember that a Palestinian was one of the assassins.
I say “one of” because what Thomas Noguchi, the coroner of Los Angeles said:
The shot that both Noguchi and the Los Angeles conclude killed Kennedy – the one that entered the back of his neck, fragmented upon impact and lodged in his brain stem – was fired so close that it left thick powder burns on the skin. Coroner Noguchi estimates (and the LAPD concurs) that the shot was fired at a range no more distant than one-and-a-half inches. Yet, according to all witnesses, Sirhan Sirhan shot in front of Kennedy and, as far as anyone knew, the senator never had the chance to turn his back towards his hunter.
The woman who filled in for Hugh Hewitt tonight was howling like her hair was on fire over this comment and just sounding like a lunatic. I’m no fan of Hillary!, but to say she was trying to hint that someone should whack Barry O’Bama is ludicrous. She was just saying that past campaigns have taken until June to sort out the nominee, so why should she have bailed after Iowa?
Hillary! lied about snipers; here she just misspoke. These people suck hard enough to bend light, so let’s stick to the solid issues and not get all petty and stupid like the bozos trying to use old Al Franken Playboy articles against him. At the rate we’re going, some people would only vote for Jesus after he got rid of that hippie hair and started seeing a woman instead of hanging out with just guys.
Oldtrooper, I disagree with you.
Rodham is calculated as calculated can be. She is a pathological liar, and she plans almost every word she says. I cannot imagine what kind of REPTILE would work FOR or WITH her, except that there are REPTILES who would work for SATAN. She lacks any kind of human decency that I find valuable. She is not feminine. She is not charismatic. She is not warm, nor kind. She is as narcissitic and self absorbed AND ambitious in the negative sense as any person I’ve ever seen. She is worse than the Michael Douglas character from WALL STREET. Thing is, NOW, she is desperate. She has lost, but she clings to any glimmer of hope that her REPTILE EYES can see in the dark. She has no SHAME, she is so used to lying with impunity without being called on it…. so now she is willing to say ANYTHING without regard to it’s calculation. She cannot do focus polls every day. She is showing the human filth that she truly is. She is flinging mud/feces at the wall in desperate hope. The RFK comment was so low class it was Clintonesqe.
On the other hand, Obama is LIGHTER than a LIGHTWEIGHT, sans teleprompter.
Obama has no political experience. No legislative experience. No life experience. No business experience.
He is black. That is his cache.
To deny it is simply a joke.
His followers want him to “wash away their iniquities” and cleanse them from their liberal racial guilt/sins. If these kumbaya delinquents vote for THE BLACK MESSIAH, they can prove they aren’t racist and change America.
That is RACIST and MORONIC in/and of itself.
Obama is unfit to manage a DQ. AND he is a marxist with race issues. He can’t even pick decent friends.
Imagine his picks for cabinet members.
Dirk, I agree, but the comment by Rodham was completely distasteful.
She didn’t have to invoke RFK’s brutal murder to make her point. She is without “couth” as my British Mom would say. This discourse seems to be missing a major point.
She could have said. It ain’t over til it’s over.
She could have said. I’m not going to quit until I’ve been defeated.
She could have said. I’ll concede only when I’ve lost.
She could have said. The nomination has been decided AFTER June in the past.
She made an “uncouth” hard edged, insensitive, desperate, cold analogy.
When speaking “off the cuff”, she is as bbad as Jesus Obama. As I “RIP” Hillary Rodham for her latest COLD statement, I must add… that I find her FAR FAR FAR FAR more intelligent than Obama. I find her far far far more savvy than Obama. I find her ability far far far superior to Obama’s.
But she isn’t honest. She isn’t kind.
She loves HERSELF more than she loves anyting else.
And she sickens me.
Obama being elected President of the United States scares the shit out of me.
If I were Obama, I would get as much distance from the Clinton’s as possible.
If Obama picks Hillary as Veep, he better be looking over his shoulder all the time
I tell you when Hillary puts her “sights” on the Presidency she means business.
Clinton’s poor knowledge of 1968 political history led to this completely avoidable gaffe.
Robert Kennedy had almost no chance to win the Democratic nomination.
Tom Wicker, the NY Times reporter covering Kennedy, and Larry O’Brien, Kennedy’s campaign manager, both stated after Kennedy’s death that his chance for victory was “slim.”
Hubert Humphrey had a commanding lead with the 1968 version of “Super Delegates,” and Humphrey also held a plurality of pledged delegates.
Those who claim that Kennedy would have won believe that Eugene McCarthy would have pledged his anti-war delegates to Kennedy at the Convention.
In fact, McCarthy felt profound bitterness toward Kennedy.
Before the primaries the anti-war Kennedy stated he would not seek the nomination.
After McCarthy demonstrated that an anti-war candidate could win and Johnson withdrew, Kennedy leaped into the campaign, which almost guaranteed McCarthy’s defeat.
If Kennedy had secured McCarthy’s delegates, Kennedy supporters claim that Kennedy’s charisma and momentum would have then won over enough Humphrey Super Delegates to give Kennedy a victory.
Although possible, a neutral reading of the political facts in 1968 make both those speculations unlikely.
Indeed. But you miss the point.
Rodham has ZERO INTEREST in HISTORY.
She is “calculating”.
RFK, ‘might have won” after June ‘68.
Don’t you people “get it”.
Rodham is clinging to FLOTSAM and JETSAM.
All of the political REALITY that you present DOES NOT HINDER, phonies like Rodham.
She is desperate. She’d kill her own young for POWER.
Hillary Rodham, is a waste of space.
This “feminist” attacked and slimed numerous women that her HUSBAND had either BEDDED or had used his “position”, to have sex with, or to proposition them.
Flowers, Broderick, Jones, Willey, Lewinsky and more.
Rodham, allowed her husband to USE WOMEN and to do so by CHEATING ON HER.
Rodham ATTACKED women with whom Bill Clinton had used for SEX. The 60 MINUTES interview. Rodham AIDED and ABETTED, B.J.CLINTON’S affairs. Rodham was the VICTIM of those AFFAIRS.
Yet RODHAM, SLIMED, the WOMEN, that her husband……PRESIDENT W.J.CLINTON used.
FEMINIST HILLARY RODHAM……..attacked the WOMEN, that her HUSBAND “abused”.
And in his “abuse” he CHEATED on Rodham!!!!!!
Libtards DO NOT CARE.
Libtards care about IDEOLOGY.
Rodham tries to manipulate that.
What a sick freak.
Naw – she’s just getting a dose of being a Republican in an ultra-leftist racist world that hates whites.
{^_-}
As much as I dislike Hillary, I really don’t see this as the big deal people are making it out to be. I took it to be an illustration of past candidates campaigning as late as June or later. It’s getting really tiresome that we spend so much time on the trivial blips that come out of their mouths rather than statements more relevant to the character and beliefs of the candidate. We should conserve our energy for more important battles.
Lilycat,
Yes and no. I agree she is making the case that many of the primaries have gone down to the end and Bobby was one who was going to run to the end even if it looked bleak. As for the character and beliefs goes, she believes that she is owed the presidency because she spent eight years in her husbands shadow being embarrassed on a consistent basis.
She does not have to character to bow out gracefully and will pull every dirty trick and foul play to get what she wants. This is all about her and has nothing to do with the country or with the people of the United States.
Saying that I want her to stay to tear the democrats apart before the General Election.
I’m no fan of Hillary but can’t anybody say anything without a major fire storm. It is totally obvious that she was simply making a point about late changes in the dynamics of the race.
I do not believe for one moment that Hillary did NOT know what she was doing.
She is calculating and cold.
We know that.
She is trying to stay in the spotlight folks and will do anything to keep it on her.
She is being the Hillary we all know.
At least she’s “honest” about it. LOL!
The assassination ploy was to perhaps frighten voters away from supporting Obama. Think about it. Fear is what she is now attempting to instill in the black voters. Why vote for him IF there’s a possibility he could meet the same fate as Kennedy.
That was her sole purpose in MY opinion.
Same old Clinton act. Not much different than B. Hussein Obama.
They speak impulsively and offer retractions later.
Ambition over rides common sense.
If McCain had said it the Media would have him in stocks in the public square.
“Regrets” are cheap talk.
The usual suspects express regret while wiser folks think before speaking.
Nothing to see here folks, move along now.
I think it’s wishful thinking on her part, for she knows she doesn’t stand a snowballs chance in hades of wining the nomination. She just happened to be thinking out loud at the moment.
Why was it just dandy when she said this to ABC months ago?
Isn’t it just Wonderful when Democrats beat up on each other? With just a little bit of luck the moon-bats will tear the Democratic Convention apart this August.
Being part of Mrs. Barrack Hussein Obama’s Mean America I must admit one of the high points of my life was seeing the damn hippies getting whipped in Chicago August 1968.
Repeat.
But wasn’t Saint Robert Kennedy the man who much of the Civil Rights movement blamed for the illegal wire tapping of MLK?
If Obama has a shadowy power broker my bet is on Radical Islam. Hamas and so forth have always supported these leftocrats every election. I’ve never seen them set up phone banks before. They’re usually too busy killing the innocent. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out Barry is getting his money from Iran, Syria, Yemen, Saudia Arabia, etc. He was raised in a madrassa only to switch to Trinity church out of political necessity. And lest we forget, Trinity has crazy strong ties to the Nation of Islam. It would be a horribly sad irony to be attacked by Islamofascists only to give them the keys to the kingdom 7 years later.
Sir, I am lost.
This all conjures up the phrase, “Dual use technology,” for me.
History has shown that liberals never say such controversial things without thinking them through beforehand.
If the above bloggers view is correct, and if she is as smart as some people view her, doesn’t it make sense that the most simple, direct thing for her to have said was, “Our election history has shown that in many cases, the candidate has not been chosen until the end of June?”
I strongly believe that her remarks were contructed to have two possible meanings. This would allow her to say insensitive remarks, planting the idea of possible assassination as, I don’t know, maybe a warning, and then being able to fall back on the benign meaning of her statement. By then, the damage will have been done, and she could claim that her statement was “misunderstood”, or “taken out of context,” then come out with an insincere apology.
I think we would all agree that she, and her “posse” are THAT calculating.
The only reason she came so close to receiving the nomination is because the MSM carried her for years.
She probably had mistakenly thought that she had earned it.
She must feel very abandoned now that the MSM has ditched her for Obama.
Obama probably thinks he’s earned it, too.
As much as I despise the Hildabeast in pantsuits. I do believe that this is “Political Correctness run a muck”. I really don’t see anything wrong with what she said.
Just imagine the out cry on the left if John McCain said the same thing. He would be vilified for weeks or months not days. Please don’t miss understand what I’m saying about John McCain, I can’t stand the man and plan on a protest vote for either Fred Thompson or Duncan Hunter.
I was watching PS-MNBC this morning and the talking heads said by Monday that this would be a non-issue after the Sunday Morning talk shows. However the racist part of the Democrat party is trying to make hay, and call her on it.
Remember folks that this the Democrat Party where racism and feminism rein supreme.
I need to get some more popcorn and wine and sit back and enjoy the show!
She could have reached back into the earlier part of her campaign – A Harlem February 2006 speech – and responded to the MSM with “and you know what I mean.“
Since when has making a statement of historical fact become an attack or something worthy of contempt? Obama’s people are really getting thin skinned to be throwing a fit over this. I am no fan of Hillary and will be glad to get her and Slick Willie off the national stage once and for all. Besides, how is this helping Michelle Obama’s kids?
And this is why BHO will never accept her as his VP. Can anyone say “Vince Foster”?
I agree that Barrack Hussein Obama can say anything and get by with it. Some conservates, like here for instance, will call him on it, but it doesn’t mean a hill of beans to the people that have been brain washed by his rhetoric. I’ve read on other threads and heard some on the talk radio circuit say that he won’t be elected because of his gaffes, but I see no sign of that being true. Instead, it appears that the more he gaffes, the more people he has drawn to him.
There seems to be the false assumption that he won’t beat McCain because the Hillerhead people hate him so much, that they’ll vote for McCain. I disagree. For all of the Democrats’ short comings, it’s a well know fact they stand together. With two people vying for the nomination, it stands to reason that everyone isn’t going to be for the same one.
I predict that not only will the Hillerhead people hop on the Barrack Hussein Obama wagon, they’ll take the one’s that’s pi$$ed off at McCain and some of the fence straddlers with them, and it will be the worst defeat in our Country’s History.
When I say the pi$$ed off ones, I mean they’ll: 1. stay home; 2 write in a name, and 3 vote for Barrack Hussein Obama with a “protest vote” and help vote this Country as we know it now right into oblivion, (I hope that’s spelled right) but that’s my humble opinion and I’m sticking to it.
Peggy Noonan has a great article today talking about Golda Meier, Indira Ghandi and Margaret Thatcher vs Hillary Clinton. Hillary is out-classed, out-flanked, and out of touch.
Months ago someone asked me, if you could vote today, whom would you vote for? Without hesitating, I blurted out “Margaret Thatcher”. Where did THAT come from? From the depths of my subconscious, I guess. I live in FL, by the way, not that it matters. MY vote counted, I’m a Republican. LOL
Inspite of everything HRC has done to sink her own nomination, BO still can’t leave her in the dust.
Sorry about the mix up. Believe it or not I thought I was on obummer’s thread. I’ve been going between he and what’s her name’s threads, but I’m still sticking to my opinion. I’ll say goodnight before I make another gaffe.
Brain dead>>>Ted Kennedy…errah>>>Robert Kennedy.
I love all those who think they have to EXPLAIN what Rodham meant, and that there was no INTENT to be crude and uncouth.
I mean after the explanations of what she meant, I’m much at ease with her DISTASTEFUL ROUGH personality.
But if a Republican says ANYTHING that a LIB can USE against him/her, they don’t get the chance to EXPLAIN.
What Rodham said, COULD MAKE SENSE. HOW SHE SAID IT, makes her look utterly COLD and WITHOUT A SENSE of propriety.
What a coincidence. She is COLD and thoughtless.
If I was to say. HALF OF AMERICAN MURDERS ARE BLACK ON BLACK.
I would be accurate. But LIBTARDS would attack the fact and ME SAYING IT, rather than attacking the TRUTH and FIXING IT.
Rodham is not a nice person. NO ONE LIKES HER. NO ONE.
Except some of you, who do not know her.
Lady Macbeth…
She will not be denied.
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express
Really, why on earth is what she said such a big stinking deal? When you look at the crap Obama and his wife have spewed, this is nothing. I should add, I despise Hillary and it’s really saying something to admit that compared to Obama, she almost looks reasonable.
Frankly …it was stupid of her to leave herself open like this.
Oh wait…given the choices we have this November it may be impossible to opt out of “Stupid”
To all three presumptive party nominees……..”Here’s your sign”
Perhaps Hillary could teach Obama how to dodge Sniper fire as a gesture that she did not mean anything by the assassination comment.
My question is, “Where is lgm during this discussion?” Perhaps on a “black ops” mission for Rodham? Conspicuous by his absence. Just sayin…
Probably out the boardwalk with all the other seagulls, begging for french fries.
She is more upset for people not getting why she is still in the race…..”I just don’t understand…”
It’s all about HER.
Gads.
Nobody cares but the media and whats his name. BUT…if HE had said it????
I hope she gets the nomination……so we can smoke her when the time comes! Nuf said about this crap, let’s move on to more important things!
This whole flare-up was pretty stupid, IMO. There are a lot of reasons to hate Hillary, and far be it from me to defend her, but this isn’t one of them. It was not a gaffe. I was an honest reference to history to discuss the fact a particular primary, one that involved Kennedy, was still ongoing in June. She was trying to pick an example that was memorable, and one involving an assassination of a popular, well-known candidate would certainly fit that purpose (we all remember where we were on those sorts of historic days). She didn’t make light of the fact that Kennedy was shot, and it wasn’t in bad taste. She simply stated a historical fact.
But this is what happens when you have liberals running the world. They won’t even let another (out of favor) liberal get away with a justifiable, non-PC reference.
