Audio: A special Memorial Day song from my 4-year-old son
Hope you are enjoying Memorial Day. My son loves to sing. He’s learning “God Bless the USA” and we sat down to record it this afternoon for your listening pleasure. We are grateful for all of those who have served and sacrificed for the freedoms we have today:

You spoke my truth, it’s a good thing my fingers know the way, ’cause my eyes are leaking!
There you go, nice job Malkins!
Ten years from now, a not-so-little J.D. won’t believe he used to hit those high notes.
Don’t forget to pull this one out when he brings his first date back to the house.
A special Memorial Day to all.
JD sounds like a very enthusiastic patriot and supporter of the troops. He’s being raised right.
God bless the USA.
Thank you Michelle and J.D. My kids and I truly enjoyed this.
Semper Fi JD
That was awesome. It put a smile on my face. Your son sure can belt it out. Thanks for giving us another glimpse into your personal life.
Play that back for him when he gets older and watch his face turn red. At least you didn’t get him on tape singing to “In The Navy,” like my mom did to me when I was a kid.
I can’t believe I just admitted that.
Whatta set of lungs! That’s one fine young singer. Thanks for sharing that.
That was great! Bravo!! Well done JD, you brought a big smile to a lot of people’s faces, and that is not such an easy thing to do. Thanks.
And thanks to Mommy for sharing.
God Bless the USA!
Great choice of songs, Michelle, but you gotta get that kid to come out of his shell (smile)
lonewolf, he did sound like he was being forced a little, shy like his mom.
thanks MM, your a great mom, i can tell. Another proud American at 4.5 (JD, i can relate, I’m 62&3/4′s)how can we lose?
Great job JD! — Michelle thank you for sharing that song with us.
Great job JD. You are a true patriot.
And I am proud to be an American just listening to your son.
The winner of AMERICAN Idol! We are all sitting around listening – laughing and crying. Thanks Michelle and JD.
JD, you are a true AMERICAN! GOD Bless the Malkin gang (can I say gang?)!
Michelle, You have to include this audio in those care packages! Awesome.
Michelle, you and the Mr. are doing a fine job raising your kids. It’s great that they are being taught the real meaning of Memorial Day and that it isn’t just a day off work and family picnics.
Good Job JD!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s really cute. . . thanks for sharing MM. I thought that was ‘Proud to Be American’ by Lee Greenwood.
First time I heard that song was by Greenwood at the World 600 race Memorial Day weekend in Charlotte. I was like 12 or something and it was amazing.
Nobody puts on as good a Memorial Day weekend show as they do in Charlotte for the race there every year. They had an entire brigade come in to the infield via helicopter and set up cannons, tanks, communications units, took up positions during the pre-race celebrations some years. I was always amazed how fast they set up, did their stuff, and left.
I recommend the World 600 to anyone if you get a chance (they run half of it at night now so you don’t have to sit in the baking sun like we used to for the whole day). . . my memories of these events were in the early 80′s so I’m sure it’s even bigger now.
Anyway the song brought back great Memorial Day memories for me when I was little. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Memorial Day!
A real American Idol! Cutest thing ever!
Get him over to the nearest V.F.W. post to entertain the troops.
Absolutely adorable! I can’t wait to have little ones.
My favorite line?: “The flag still stands for fweedom…”
Thanks, MM. Thanks, JD.
God Bless you all.
Dear JD, Hearing you sing “God Bless the USA” made me stop and thank God for you and to ask Him to bless you and your family! On Memorial Day, our family visited Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery where hundreds of Scouts had placed American flags in front of the white headstones of the HEROES. My loved one returned from his third tour of duty in the battle zones last fall. I am grateful for all the soldiers who make each day we spend with our families so precious while they are away from their own families. We are “Proud to be Americans” and grateful for your heartfelt song that reminds us all of the meaning of Memorial Day! jb
Young man, you are very talented. Thank you.
Thanks Michelle and JD
