Audio: A special Memorial Day song from my 4-year-old son

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 26, 2008 01:07 PM

Hope you are enjoying Memorial Day. My son loves to sing. He’s learning “God Bless the USA” and we sat down to record it this afternoon for your listening pleasure. We are grateful for all of those who have served and sacrificed for the freedoms we have today:

***

And don’t forget to order your care packages for the troops for the “From The Frontlines” campaign!

That was awesome. It put a smile on my face. Your son sure can belt it out. Thanks for giving us another glimpse into your personal life.

Play that back for him when he gets older and watch his face turn red. At least you didn’t get him on tape singing to “In The Navy,” like my mom did to me when I was a kid.

    I can’t believe I just admitted that.

That’s really cute. . . thanks for sharing MM. I thought that was ‘Proud to Be American’ by Lee Greenwood.

First time I heard that song was by Greenwood at the World 600 race Memorial Day weekend in Charlotte. I was like 12 or something and it was amazing.

Nobody puts on as good a Memorial Day weekend show as they do in Charlotte for the race there every year. They had an entire brigade come in to the infield via helicopter and set up cannons, tanks, communications units, took up positions during the pre-race celebrations some years. I was always amazed how fast they set up, did their stuff, and left.

I recommend the World 600 to anyone if you get a chance (they run half of it at night now so you don’t have to sit in the baking sun like we used to for the whole day). . . my memories of these events were in the early 80’s so I’m sure it’s even bigger now.

Anyway the song brought back great Memorial Day memories for me when I was little. Thanks for sharing.

    Happy Memorial Day!

Dear JD, Hearing you sing “God Bless the USA” made me stop and thank God for you and to ask Him to bless you and your family! On Memorial Day, our family visited Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery where hundreds of Scouts had placed American flags in front of the white headstones of the HEROES. My loved one returned from his third tour of duty in the battle zones last fall. I am grateful for all the soldiers who make each day we spend with our families so precious while they are away from their own families. We are “Proud to be Americans” and grateful for your heartfelt song that reminds us all of the meaning of Memorial Day! jb
