“Well meaning” Government plan = Ponzi scheme = redistribution of wealth = socialism/communism

Subtract out the loopholes that will be made for Congress and bought by “preferred industries,” the exorbitant “administration fees” and outright vote buying via earmarks etc., and you have just another ineffective goverment boondoggle that will degrade the quality of life in the USA and help no one but the politicians in the process.

Call me cynical, but when you see the same stupid moves, over and over again, it just gets predictable.

As you are well aware, I am the person who personally planted every tree that is less than 45 years old in Yellowstone National Park, (please see attached photos). The carbon uptake as a result of my effort is estimated to be worth $125 million over the expected life cycle for those trees. I do not wish to quibble over an exact amount so please send me a check for $100 million to me and whatever balance as a bonus to IPCC scientists to encourage their continued effort to study the global warming problem.

Point taken, but with a slight nitpick… I believe you meant indulgences when you said “absolution.” The wiki article I linked goes into more detail, but the thumbnail version is this: Indulgences do not forgive sin, but are the removal of temporal punishment for sins already absolved through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. So even when people were paying for indulgences, they weren’t paying to absolved (unless they misunderstood doctrine — certainly possible); they were paying to lessen or remove any time spent in purgatory for sins already confessed and absolved.
