Obama also spoke about his uncle, who was part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz. He said the family legend is that, upon returning from war, his uncle spent six months in an attic. “Now obviously, something had really affected him deeply, but at that time there just weren’t the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain,” Obama said. “That’s why this idea of making sure that every single veteran, when they are discharged, are screened for post-traumatic stress disorder and given the mental health services that they need – that’s why it’s so important.”

Auschwitz of course is in Poland. It was liberated by the Red Army on Jan 27 1945. Poland, on most maps is usually placed to the east of Germany, although we may need to investigate the geography textbooks the Messiah used as a child…
The Allies were wrapping up the battle of the bulge in late January of 1945 — the Rhine crossings were still well into the future when Auschwitz was liberated.
Either Obama’s uncle served in the Red Army, or he’s spinning Clintonesque lies about Auschwitz to sell his government programs. Hey, it’s for a good cause…but it’s not enough for him. It has to be personal. It has to be all about him.
It’s like Bill Clinton whining about those Arkansas church burnings he witnessed as a child–church burnings which never actually happened.

This is just another dsitraction. This conversation isn’t helping Michelle Obama’s kids, either. My grandmother is a typical white racist and my grandfather lived in attic. I offer hope and change.
You have got to be kidding, right??? Now if this story was relayed by a REPUBLICAN, not only would it be plastered on front pages across the country, but they would investigate if HE even had an UNCLE.
PTSD is a very serious matter and support for evaluations to diagnose and treat it is laudable… it doesn’t need to be muddied up with tall tales from the dark side of Obama’s upbringing.
Meanwhile, his support continues to grow…

He may have jsut gotten the camp wrong. I distinctly remember reading a story in the book The Holocaust by Martin Gilbert, an account of a concentration camp being liberated by black soldiers. It was a first person account of a Jew that said he was liberated by a Negro United States tank crew.
Forgive me for not typing in caps but there is nothing funny about the Holocaust.

There were so many camps and sub-camps that getting a name wrong would be easy, especially as the stories were passed on from family member to family member.
If you change Auschwitz to Dacchau, Buuchenwald, or Belsen the story works.
That makes me more interested if he ever had an uncle that lived in an attic because of it.
People are already starting to issues the apoligizes and of course the first tact is to say he named the wrong camp. If a presidential candidate retelling a personal story does not do enough due dilligence to make sure it is accurate it certainly doesn’t point to his ability handle complex issues very well. Second since it was personal there would have been no need for his staff to “fact check” it. So he can’t even surround himself with smart people to at least advise him that if he isn’t sure about the camp then he needs to speak in generic terms.
No, this was an attempt for him to try and settle down the grumblings among his Jewish supporters while at the same time pushing some sort of line of reasoning that he could correctly identify an American soldier in 3 out of the 4 movies he has seen. (He had trouble when viewing the “Green Berets” determing which ones were US but he is pretty sure it is the ones who kicked in the doors of the innocent civilians house and dragged them out of bed and then abused him before secretly rendering him aboard an aircraft and sent him to a private prison never to be seen again.) That would be the movie review of that John Wayne classic today.
Anyway we all know the spin, and I don’t know why he wants to since none of this will be seen on TV so none of the people currently going through American Idol withdrawal will ever know anyway. Think it will make the cover of Time or Newseek?

I would think getting Auschwitz (as the most infamous and well know name of such camps) mixed up with another place would be odd, at best.

You seem like a decent person, which makes your willingness to excuse Obama’s perpetual truth-stretching confusing. Even if he had given the correct date and location, why tell the story at all? How is mandatory screening for returning soldiers today going to help his psycho grandfather? If I told you I was going to mandate the use of seat belts on tractors, because my grandfather didn’t have one and almost died when he fell off his Farmall as a child, what good would that story do for my cause? It’s all past tense.
Someone needs to put a story like this out with a republican’s or McCain’s name attached to it and then after the public massacre say, Oops it was really Obama that said that.

I think everyone here is missing an important point. If Barack can be conceived in 1965 and travel back in time to 1961 for his birth, then a mere uncle to the messiah can certainly teleport to Auschwitz and back.

Buchenwald was liberated by the 4th Armoured Division. Ohrdruf was the subcamp where Ike, Patton, and Bradley toured the carnage on April 12, 1945. As tough as Patton was, he wrote in his diary that he had never witnessed anything like it.
I’ve seen the pictures and if I had been among those that liberated one of these camps, I too would probably have spent some time in the attic. Humanity run amok.

Well, it seems there was a Black group that took part in the Liberation of a camp. The 761st Tank Battalion, an all-African American tank unit, participated in the liberation of Gunskirchen, a subcamp of the Mauthausen concentration camp, in May 1945.
However, the Liberation of camps by different units and such are all very sketchy at best, as the period of time during that war were very chaotic, and many unit histories are missing or distorted. As for movements of various AA units, those are also hard to find due to said chaos going on…especially the two AA units…the 761st Tank Battalion and the 183rd Engineer Combat Battalion.
Those are the two Battalions featured in a PBS “documentary” from the early 90’s that came under harsh criticism at the time for “fudging” a great many facts in order to make the two units out to have done far more during the war than they actually did, rewriting history in order to boost AA involvement in WWII.
It seems that B. Hussein “Empty Suited Messiah” Obama’s speech writers and handlers need to do a beter job of homework when attempting to make him relevant than they are doing, and not just following e-mail forwards that tout things that are questionable at best in order to make him appear relevant and strong when it comes to our Military and It’s Veterans.
Come on, get with the program. Most of us remember things that actually happened. BarryO’s so amazing, he doesn’t have to limit himself to that, he can remember things that didn’t happen!

Since the Left already believes that the only thing the Military does to our men and women that serve is turn them into baby-killers and father rapers, stating that we basically have every one of our men and women coming home potential ticking time bombs without the Government doing anything about it fits their ideals perfectly. Having a made-up story about some mythical relative hiding out in an attic somewhere because of what they allegedly saw during WWII only serves to give them a picture of what could be going on now…regardless of the fact that it was the Dems in charge back then and liberating Death Camps is a far cry from what is going on now.
As long as the Status Quo of portraying the Military and the brave men and women who serve as brainless robots trained only to kill is met, it makes no difference how said theory is told.

Well, I say…produce the records. Produce the proof that said Uncle was in the military and what unit and when and where he served.
If it is good enough for them to say about Bush, it is good enough for us to say about said Uncle.
If the Empty Suit wants to clear this up, then present the facts and proof. Otherwise, come out and come forward with an apology and an admission of guilt.
I don’t know what the big deal is anyway because The Holocaust never even happened and I’m sure that’s what he wants to talk to Ahmadinejad about.

* Why did he never mention it before, in either of his books?
* Why did he not bother to get the basic facts regarding it correct?
* And why did he, as far as we know, never discuss it with Reverend Wright after the latter’s rants against Jews, white people, and the American Military?
I think these questions answer themselves. Obama, as Thomas Sowell stated some weeks ago, is not so much a liar as a lie. Obama is obsessed with race and the leftist view of the world. He can provide no historical context, justification, or understanding to anything he says. This has gone way beyond being funny. People need to focus on what is going on in this man’s mind. Not so much what he is saying, which is confusing enough, but why he is saying it. I’m not the only one who is beginning to wonder if he is either on drugs, or has a drug-damaged brain.

This guy talks about 57 States in the USA, talks about his uncle liberating Auschwitz, talks about 10,000 people being wiped out by tornadoes in Kansas, and he’s a HARVARD GRAD.?!? Makesm e wonder wehat kind of an education students get at Harvard. If I was HU’s president, I’d disassociate my school from ever having known Obama….
