How come we have all these car accidents by students with learner’s permits who have driver’s ed in these same schools, but manage to get into pretty terrific wrecks? Shouldn’t the outcome be the same as you predict for for sex ed (total, Sweden like perfection), or are we destined for lots of sexual “car crashes?”

Or perhaps the liberal establishment in Hollywood is responsible for undoing all the fine work of sex and driver’s ed, with movies like “Fast and Furious” for cars and just about any of their crap for sex, including television and the commercials therein?

Actually, JA, the 5 year old child in question has Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism.

Asperger’s Disorder is a milder variant of Autistic Disorder. Both Asperger’s Disorder and Autistic Disorder are in fact subgroups of a larger diagnostic category. This larger category is called either Autistic Spectrum Disorders, mostly in European countries, or Pervasive Developmental Disorders (“PDD”), in the United States. In Asperger’s Disorder, affected individuals are characterized by social isolation and eccentric behavior in childhood.

His offenses in her class included humming and eating his papers. While he may seem like he should have been acting the same as other children in his class and age group, his disorder places him in a markedly different category regarding behavior and how it will impact him.

By definition, those with AS have a normal IQ and many individuals (although not all), exhibit exceptional skill or talent in a specific area. Because of their high degree of functionality and their naiveté, those with AS are often viewed as eccentric or odd and can easily become victims of teasing and bullying.

Where would the teacher’s actions of encouraging other children in her Kindergarten class to vote him out fall – teaching, encouraging, bullying or something else? His ticks with humming and eating his paper, while not normal behavior for most is normal for him.
