CNN is reporting this afternoon that Sen. Barack Obama is leaving Trinity United Church of Christ, his longtime religious home on Chicago’s South Side and a place that has triggered repeated controversies during his presidential bid.
Whew! It’s a good thing Obama got out in front of this controversy before it started to hurt him.
UPDATE: Here’s the YouTube of his press conference. I think he did this about as well as he could–the way he tells it, that gosh-darn press was harassing Trinity, so he’s trying to leave them in peace–but it’s still going to hurt him.
He sat in those pews for twenty years and was quite familiar with what goes on there. He benefited from that association as he rose in Illinois politics, but as he himself admits, Trinity’s radical, politicized preaching is now hurting his Presidential campaign. Business is business:

I do not agree in sitting home—that’s plain stupid, you might as well vote for Obama then.
But this Omabapod Nation is insane as is their leader. He’s not quitting the church cause it’s racist, marxist, or anything–only because it hurt’s his career. If anyone has brains they would know that. His views haven’t changed, he said honestly why he is leaving and it’s a darn poor reason, just another reason to dislike him even more.
Yeah, I go along with those who are routing for Hillary over him.

At least he cared enough to quit the church that has cast such a shadow on his campaign and left him with more targets then a firing range.
I’m no Obama fan….hate his view on immigration. But, I read and heard his comments on why he is resigning from his former church. Sorry to say it folks, but I detected a bit of logic and class in his reasoning. Now if he could only apply that logic to other issues…..but he won’t….

Okay, help me here. I was too poor for an Ivy League education, so I need some help with the logic behind Obama’s latest move. Obama says he’s leaving his beloved church for the church’s own good. It seems the big, bad, ugly media are harassing Trinity’s members because he’s running for president. So, he’s doing the noble thing and leaving for their sakes. But fear not, he and Michelle will find another church.
If he’s really leaving for such altruistic reasons, why would he want to subject another church to those same nasty media types? If the problems are all the fault of an overzealous media, then isn’t he setting up some other poor church for the same problems?
Odd, I’ve been watching presidential campaigns from a voter’s perspective since the 60s and I don’t ever recall a specific church being subjected to scrutiny before (Religions? Yes, Kennedy in 60; Romney this year, but not specific churches).
Maybe the scrutiny that Trinity is experiencing has something to do with its blatant racism and liberal politics. There is certainly a lot more of that being practiced there than any religious philosophy.
Win or lose in November, BO will be back at Trinity by Thanksgiving.
Can’t wait to hear the things that are going to come out from (a scorned church now) now…

This whole cycle I have been trying to figure out this clown’s appeal and Bismarck states it so clearly in one sentence. Thank you good Bismarck.

He was neither cold and clever enough to unload his church before it could become an issue, nor brave and principled enough to stick by them after it had become an issue.
And his cover story about sitting there for 20 years without realizing that his preacher was a flaming anti-american racist was completely lame.
So whether you view him as a sneaky operator, a man of principle or an outright liar he is a failure in every capacity.
He actually poses a tough choice. It’s hard to select his main failing. Is it cowardice, dishonesty or plain garden-variety stupidity?
Hard to say. But none of them what you want in your local dog-catcher, much less a president.
His popularity among the young gives us a fair measure of what the colleges are producing these days.

You know what this Pfleger assh*le scares me. He seems like the type of person who’d load all white people into cattle cars have them murdered and their bodies incinerated AFTER he seized all their assets and redistributed them to “the disenfranchised”. I looked at Pflger’s wikipedia entry and his community activist work is something I’d typically agree with but heh, Hitler was a social activist too. Hitler was a animals rights activist and was staunch anti-smoker. Keep in mind Pfleger is one of Obama’s minions and think about the hundreds of ’social activists’ that would go to town if this Obama creature is elected President. It’s time for America to take its head out of its a$$ and march against liberalism.
Just got off the phone with my brother who lives in a Chicago suburb. Said the priest at his church got up at the homily and told the congregation he wanted them to call about this “so called priest” and to stress to the Cardinal’s mouthpiece that he needed to be gone. He then continued with the Mass and reminded them again before they left and kept repeating the number.
So there is hope.

Why is anyone surprised by this. It’s no secret that extremists of all stripes will lie about their beliefs and agenda in order to gain mainstream acceptance. Then, once they’ve got power they attempt to implement as much of their agenda as possible while still maintaining power.
It’s my hope that Obama will be defeated. Failing that, I hope he will be ineffective enough to get booted in 4 years, but not so ineffective as to do the country permanent harm. Failing that, I hope his presidency will at least give this country a good taste of what living under a far-left regime is like. Perhaps that will wake us up & we’ll start electing conservatives & libertarians to office.
Although Pfleger is a Catholic he and Jeremiah Wright are both Disciples and students of James H Cone whose book “Black Theology and Black Power” is the foundation of what is commonly called Black Theology or Black Nationalism. And as a white, brown, or asian there is not much you can do to mollify them.
If you have access to National Review of May 19, 2008 they have a good review of Mr. Cone’s views-Pg 28 ‘Context You Say?’. Mr. Cone’s Favorite Quote:
Cone goes on you explain that MalcolmX was not far wrong when he called the white man the devil. Jeremiah Wright became pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago on March 1, 1972 for the express purpose of instilling Black Theology there, driving out the Vanilla Christians and building the church. As we see he succeded.
This man Pfleger certainly fits Mr. Cone’s Good Liberal Radical. I guess millions of others do also. God Bless America, stock up on food, water and some extra ammo. We are in for a hell of a ride either way it goes. If we have to have a next battle of the Revolution this is good a time as any to fight it.

A bit off topic, but has anyone else heard about the alleged Michelle Obama “Whitey” video that the GOP is hiding until October. It’s a hot rumor, Rush, Hannity, and FOX were all talking about it.
Fool, America hater wife, racist, friend of terrorists, inexperienced, opportunist, elitist, flip-flopper etc… If all these things could be proven to be true beyond a doubt it wouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference among his suppporters and the MSM sycophants. Nothing could shake their faith in Hope and Change.
Actually, there is one thing. If it could ever be shown he was briefly a Republican, or had some over to his house, or associated with some Rebublicans outside the Senate that would raise some eyebrows. Then we would see some serious concern about his suitability for the presidency.
Those videos that show that church and their crazy “Planet of the Tapes” is an example of why the USA is soon to be doomed. The United States was a noble experiment, but my children are going to have to live in a Mexican world… a liberal world… a “we will bow down to the rest of the world because we are evil” world… the good times are gone, and the USA is done. As he stated he is not leaving the church because he disagrees with the views, but because he wants the Media to stop reporting about it. I think that tells all we need to know about his beliefs and values.
