Breaking: Obama throws his entire church under the bus?!

By see-dubya  •  May 31, 2008 05:54 PM

Drew M. at Ace says he just saw it on CNN. I’ll look around for some info.

I guess he needed more time to plan that trip to Iran, huh?

YEP. UPDATE: CNN says Barry and Trinity are splitsville:

CNN is reporting this afternoon that Sen. Barack Obama is leaving Trinity United Church of Christ, his longtime religious home on Chicago’s South Side and a place that has triggered repeated controversies during his presidential bid.

Whew! It’s a good thing Obama got out in front of this controversy before it started to hurt him.

UPDATE: Here’s the YouTube of his press conference. I think he did this about as well as he could–the way he tells it, that gosh-darn press was harassing Trinity, so he’s trying to leave them in peace–but it’s still going to hurt him.

He sat in those pews for twenty years and was quite familiar with what goes on there. He benefited from that association as he rose in Illinois politics, but as he himself admits, Trinity’s radical, politicized preaching is now hurting his Presidential campaign. Business is business:

If he agreed with the politics and “theology” at Trinity, why compromise himself now?? Isn’t what he believes more important than the presidency? Because if it wasn’t, then he wasted a lot of time believing in something that was not worth his time. Believe me, if I had to choose between what my religious beliefs were and the presidency, the presidency would have to be ditched.

Get my point? Were obama’s religious beliefs not ever really important to him?

The man pretty much said “I’m quitting the church out of political expedience.” Not that the Marxist media will point that out.

It’s been obvious to me from the start that Obama’s a fly-weight. But now. Now he’s starting to seem creepy, even by my fairly generous standards.

Someone on this thread mentioned that the crocodile-woman looks good by comparison. Funny, I was just thinking that today. As much as it pains me, I’m going to have to vote McCain, out ot fear that staying home may be a vote for a thinly-disguised Communist.

Interesting. Obama notes that he, his wife and Moss had been discussing this for a few weeks now. Phleger, per the Obama campaign “left” the campaign a couple of weeks ago.

So, Moss is well aware of Obama’s possible departure from Trinity. Phleger is aware that Obama denounced Wright for his racist antics. And Phleger is well aware of other members of the campaign being asked to leave. Yet Moss allows Phleger into the church where Phleger delivers an uninterrupted tirade, in Moss’ presence, filled with both racist and sexist comments.

If Moss knew of Obama’s concerns, why allow Phleger in to deliver a Jeremiah Wright performance? And knowing that the press is present in the church, why doesn’t he attempt to stop him?

And if Phleger knew of Obama’s concerns, why would he choose a venue certain to have the media present, to launch into such a divisive screed?

When Obama chose to spend Easter in St. Thomas, it was reported (I think by Pamela Geller) that Wright was staying at the Hyatt there at the same time. It was after Easter that Wright delivered his now infamous remarks that led to the mother of all denouncements. Why would Wright continue to run his mouth when he was certain that (1) they offended Obama and (2) when he knew they would be picked up on the national news?

Wright,Moss and Phleger all knew that their continued pattern of racist behavior would hurt Obama, whom they connsidered their “friend”. Did they not care enough about Obama to tone down their rhetoric or limit it to private conversations? Didn’t they realize that they had the potential to torpedo Obama’s chances for the White House?

Interesting questions. And they beg another question: Was this choreographed by the Obama campaign as a way to preserve the black vote while assuaging the concerns of white voters by exiting Trinity? Perhaps that gives Obama too much credit for forward thinking, but it fits the rather Machiavellian imprimatur of Obama’s political career.

I don’t think they thought that far. These people live in a “vacuum”. They actually believe that most other Americans think as they do, considering the portrayal the MSM, Hollywood, et al like to project.

As far as Obama and his staff “orchestrating” anything, I doubt if they could manage it.

What use has a communist for a church?

I think the more appropriate question is “What use has a communist for religion?” What I’m seeing here isn’t a religion as defined by any sane person, but rather an outlet of shrieking hatred, which doesn’t necessarily require a religion to spread itself. If you can manage to throw in a little race-baiting and class envy to spread the word, all the better.

When you think about it, a communist does have a religion. He worships power and control over others — in other words, the government.

In that context he figures that we’re going to be attacked again anyway for that to happen so a liberal letting it happen sooner would be better than country club republicans and RINOS putting it off until later when it might be so large that we will be unable to ever recover no matter how much the surviving US population finally wakes up.

So while we shouldn’t pick little specks out of what we hear at Trinity – we should know whether Obama leaves or not, he’s committed to the Trinity values: racism, hatred of whitey and AmeriKKKa.

The telling part of this is the “…until later when it might be so large…”. Who’s to say the next time isn’t “it”?!

That is why I respectfully disagree in the sense that, whoever is in office at the time of “the next (likelihood unknown, but not unreasonable) attack” will benefit (we’re speaking politics here, no cynicism here, in the event of a real attack…) from the nation rallying around him.

In that respect, I most certainly do not see having Obama as President as a plus.

    Dear. Rev. Moss:

We are writing to make official our decision to end our memebership (sic) at trinity(sic).

We make this decision with sadness. Trinity was where I found Christ, where we were married and where our children were baptized. We have many friends among the 8,000 congregants who attend there and we are proud of the extraordinary good works (sic) the church continues to perform throughout the community to help the hungry, the homeless and people in need of medical care. We also have come to appreciate your ministry and both think you have been, and will be, a wonderful pastor for years to come.

But as you know, our relations with trinity (sic) have been strained by the divisive statements of rev. wright (sic), which sharply conflict with our own views (laugh). Our larger concern is that because of my candidacy and membership at trinity (sic), these controversies have served as an unfortunate distraction for other trinity (sic) members who seek to worship in peace, and have placed you in an untenable position as you establish your own ministry under very difficult circumstances.

Our faith remains strong and we will find another church home for our family. But we also know that faith and prayer are not merely exercises to be discharged for two hours on Sunday. They are and always will be a bulwark for us in our daily lives.

We are grateful for our years as part of the Trinity community, and wish you all the best as you lead the congregation into the future. You, your family and the entire Trinity family will be in thoughts and prayers.

    Sincerely

    Michelle Obama
    Barack Obama

    So there’s the resignation letter.

Mind you, both of these rock stars are supposed to be graduates of Harvard Law…so why does read like a 15 year old wrote it?

Not only does it make me cringe grammatically, but it’s verbose and a letter clearly not repudiating the Church.

All you have to do is look at the “God hates everything” church he attended for 20 years. As to the emails I receive about Obama being THE Anti-Christ from the Book of Revelations, that is what I’m having a problem with. What is a shame is that he has a huge following that think along the same lines as he does. How can anyone that has a belief in Christ follow someone like him. I would have to assume (which I know is wrong) that all of Obamas followers are non-believers. How can they be believers knowing what type of church he attended for 20 years and knowing that he attended a Muslim school growing up? Am I wrong?

So, he’s doing the noble thing and leaving for their sakes. But fear not, he and Michelle will find another church.

If he’s really leaving for such altruistic reasons, why would he want to subject another church to those same nasty media types? If the problems are all the fault of an overzealous media, then isn’t he setting up some other poor church for the same problems?

Maybe the scrutiny that Trinity is experiencing has something to do with its blatant racism and liberal politics. There is certainly a lot more of that being practiced there than any religious philosophy.
