Free Speech for liberal and Islamomutants but not for thee. So merely throwing evil-ass imams’ own words back at them reflects badly on the religion and is an attack on said “religion”. Ok, no first amendment in Canada, but Canucks sure like to brag how wonderful life is there with free health care and freedom for terrorists to do what they will or pretty much like that.
The Human Rights’ Commission should be vilified and prosecuted themselves.

Islam is a religion that breeds hate and I can’t think of any reasons or positives for it. It persecutes women and stones them to death when they get raped. That’s just one example. I am tired of sitting down watching those that spread this terror to get more rights and how we have to feel obliged to follow their rules. I don’t CARE about CAIR and no sharia for me.
Here’s hoping that Mark’s trial is a step towards breaking the backs of those who would oppress free speech.
Ther should be a “Shock and Awe” Campaign started on these low lifes in our country doing things like this to our good people.

Actually, I have been reading about it for months and have enormous respect for Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant.

My guess is that they are as offended at a reference to prayer as to gunfire.

No one expects the human rights commission.
Just to be accurate, Mark is appearing today in front of the BC Human Rights Tribunal. Contrary to the absurd legal principle that you can only be tried once for a crime, the “Human Rights” commissions allow you to be tried and retried in each of their jurisdictions for the same complaint.
So Macleans and Mark Steyn were facing complaints accepted by the BC and Canadian HRC’s. In addition, a complaint was filed with the Ontario HRC, which reluctantly decided it didn’t have legal jurisdiction over printed material, but found them guilty anyway.
I bought two books, one as a gift. He was signing them for free/included with the purchase. Makes a nice gift.
What a huge asset to America this man has become.

This trial is an excellent example of socialism at work and the importance of Article 1 of our constitution. I predict that the idiot liberals in Canada have painted themselves into a corner on this. I don’t think that Canadians are that stupid or submissive.
The hate speech nannies are going to a gun fight with boxing gloves. Steyn will make them look so foolish that people will pity them.

I have got to meet a lot of Canadians in the last year or so, mostly from western Canada. Nice people, friendly and such–but seem to accept what ever the Government wants to do is fine with them. These Canadians will openly admit the Government, courts and commissions run rough shod over their rights–but they often have the attitude Government knows best.
When talking to them about gun rights they uniformly state “we never had that right, the government never gave it to us”. Free speech seems to fall into that category; it is something the government gives them. What the government gives it can take. The concept of Free Men and Natural Rights does seem to be one of their traits. Government.
Well God be with Mark Steyn and do pick up his book AMERICA ALONE. Excellent read.
Will the BC Civil Rights Commission BAN the Qur’an? All that talk about killing people who abandon Islam, killing non-believers, specific antisemitic language clearly hateful in tone - surely this cannot be tolerated by the Kangaroos? Then there is Sharia. Shouldn’t all the female Kangaroos in court be banned unless their husband is present or a male family member. And how can they have a woman judge! When will the women be beaten for not wearing modest clothing? Are there any JEWS in the court? Do the plaintiffs not believe it their duty to kill all JEWS? Why are the plaintiffs not on trial? Why is Islam not on trial?
If he’s on trial, odds are that he’s guilty, just like all those detainees at Gitmo. Yup, all guilty.
Mr. Steyn will baffle and belittle them with his vast intellegence and eloquence and they’ll (Human Rights Commission) be surrendering faster than France.

I seem to recall in an interview with Hugh Hewitt, Mark said the HRC member’s were trying to find a way out of his being brought up on charges. That conversation was a couple of months ago.
Hugh had asked him to blog from the trial, if possible, though both thought it doubtful.
Mark, may I also add one more American praying for you. Canada needs it’s conscience raises and it seems to me, you are just the man to do it.

it doesn’t mean that they AREN’T guilty.
The court system ISN’T about justice, it’s about winning and losing. It’s about who is the better tactician and about the leanings of Judges.
Until we get a way to honesty, INDEPENDENTLY, evaluate Judges and candidates for the office of Judge, we will not have a lot of Judges without “leanings”. We struggle with this issue in the SF Bay area. WHY DO YOU THINK THE DEM’S IN CONGRESS ARE SITTING ON SO MANY CANDIDATES NOMINATIONS that Mr. Bush has put forth?

LGM is a liar,,, He keeps telling us about abortion clinics being bombed by rightwingers and as of yet I have not seen any of this on the news. If the nation ever turned Islam the LGM types would be the first to lose their heads because they would be considered traitors and could not be trusted in any islamic gov’t. I wouldn’t hold my breath though. Here in Finland, we have already had a few Internet “hate crime” show trials with all convictions. Seems the leftest media (which is pretty much we only have) does not even care.
One of the cases had some English covarege (e.g., here). The latest trial (with no English covarage AFAIK) was held just last week. A man, who would have been in the old times described simply as “crazy”, was convicted for 2,5 years in prison (more than a serial rapist usually gets here) for “libel” and “breach of freedom of worship”. The latest turn in the case was that yesterday the prosecutor and police adviced (here, in Finnish) “those who have been offended by the convicted man” to contact directly Google for the “removement of the pages from Internet” as the pages are on American servers and “likely protected by American freedom of speech laws”, and therefore inquiry by the authories would not result into the removement of the pages!
Thank God for your first amendment, it is protecting the freedom of speech even outside your borders!

Come to the US. Europe is a lost cause, as you well know. Eurabia will become reality in my lifetime, unless something drastic happens soon. A dying native population, astronomically high cost of social services, utter moral decay, and a booming Muslim population spell disaster for Europe as we know it. There are neighborhoods in Europe where burkas are required. 40% of Rotterdam’s population is Muslim.

have an election here in California today. Canada needs to vote out small minded people like this. It’s hard to imagine that even Canada gives it’s Citizens grief about Freedom of Speech.
I wish Mark could make some ringing retort. But with such small minds, people who are only interested in their
sphere of influence, their power, hope is the best I can do. It might not help

Good points. Thank God our rights are much stronger in America. For now anyway. We all must help Canadian bloggers get this out to the world. Bludgeon the HRC through the blogosphere, continue to mock and expose their lawbreaking. We must keep educating people about this stuff so we stay far away from that PC craziness.
This whole Steyn, Levant and the Canadian bloggers V Mark Warman thing may end up being the beginning of the first death knell, the beginning of the end of the HRC’s lawless actions. Or not.
Canada’s Supreme Court and Parliament will eventually be getting involved I imagine. I certainly hope so.
Let real Lawyers battle it out in argument. Of course the Left doesn’t want this. They know they have the weaker case.
I can’t wait to see a tape of Steyn in front of the commission. The one with Ezra Levant was a real hoot. Ezra skewered them.
