Pfleger: “America is the greatest sin against God;” new “statement” to come?

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 2, 2008 12:00 AM

More video of Rev. Michael “Vanilla Ice” Pfleger’s race-baiting sermon last week at Trinity United Church of Christ has emerged on YouTube. Boy, was he on a roll. If you thought his bug-eyed, Jeremiah Wright wannabe mimickry of Hillary Clinton’s “white entitlement” was over the top, you’ll love the new excerpts in which Pfleger inveighs that “America is the greatest sin against God.” (”God damn America” was already taken, of course.)

My question is: What will it take for the Catholic Church to cut themselves loose of this racial huckster? “Have the balls” to fire him already. (See also Catholics against Pfleger.)

(Hat tip - HA headlines. More here.)

Pfleger is complaining about “ugly” rhetoric–and is promising to make a statement today. Chutzpah:

The Rev. Michael Pfleger, who helped reignite Barack Obama’s pastor problems by mocking Hillary Clinton, said this evening he’s received “thousands of hate threats” since his videotaped pulpit rant.

“They want to kill me,” Pfleger told parishioners during a service in a St. Sabina Church chapel on Chicago’s South Side this evening. “It’s been very ugly.”

In his brief comments this evening, Pfleger did not name any candidates, and said he would address the controversy at a Sunday mass at St. Sabina.

“I’m not going to make a statement,” Pfleger told the crowded chapel. “My real statement will be tomorrow.”

But he did say it’s been a difficult week filled with an unspecified surgery on Tuesday and a deluge of threats.

“It’s a very difficult situation,” he said. “I’ve received thousands of hate threats.”

He did not offer any specifics from the pulpit, and declined through an aide to comment further. That included declining a specific request by the Sun-Times for a comment on Obama’s decision to leave Trinity church.

Meanwhile: The Axelrod-Pfleger connection.

Obama, for his part, continues to rely on his apologist talking point about how all of his men of bad faith are being quoted out of context.

In what context does “America is the greatest sin against God” not sound like the demagogic spewing that it is?

***
James Lewis at the American Thinker presses the Catholic Church:

Father Pfleger brings public scandal to the Church. He clearly and obviously, on videotape, preaches racial hatred. He does so with plenty of prior rehearsal and maybe coaching, in order to sound just like race-baiting ole’ Reverend Wright, who has apparently been conducting a school for race baiters over at Trinity United. The Democrat Party of Chicago, Louis Farrakhan, the whole den of thieves of the Illinois Democrat Machine has obviously known about this for decades. The radical Left and ACORN (Obama’s “community organizing” radicals) must have known all about it. The Obamas were up to their necks in guilty knowledge. The Clintons knew. Everybody knew…

…Does the Catholic Church recognize any responsibility to deal with Father Pfleger? Do the words of Vatican II mean anything in practice?

Of course if her husband WAS to get shot while at the gas station it most likely would not be “whitey” that did it, but “whitey” would be blamed sur nuff suga pie.

I have yet to hear anyone in the Media ask Sen. Obama about the Black Value System all members of this church must support and endorse to be a member of this church.

This is where Rev. Wright and Rev. Moss get the material for their sermons that they have been preaching at the church.

I also found it interesting that while they said Rev. Wright retired, he is still listed as the Pastor at this church if you go to their website also.

To hear these race mongers you have to believe racism by whites against blacks is more prevalent today than in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.

To hear them you have to believe nothing has changed and blacks have no opportunities and no hope in this country.

To hear them you would have to believe blacks are being dragged into the streets and beaten by groups of white people and nothing is being done to stop it.

To borrow from our good friend Hillary, you would have to have a willing suspension of disbelief.

Some Catholics will tell you that Vatican II is the root of the problems in the Church today.

I think most people are aware of the priest shortage, so they won’t fire him on whim.

It’s unfortunate that Rev. Pfleger has been threatened.

I’m really beginning to wonder how he even got into this, and that the Illinois media completely overlooked this stuff during the state-level elections.

Or maybe this is common in Chicago these days?

At any rate, as a Catholic, Rev. Pfleger is becoming annoying. I really don’t wan to hear about politics at the pulpit, and I can’t stand whites who seem to hate themselves to win the approval of minority groups. That may be Pfleger, and it may not be.

“In his sermon, ‘The Final Dictator,’ Hagee described the Antichrist as a seductive figure with “fierce features.” He will be “a blasphemer and a homosexual,” the pastor announced. Then, Hagee boomed, “There’s a phrase in Scripture used solely to identify the Jewish people. It suggests that this man [the Antichrist] is at least going to be partially Jewish, as was Adolph Hitler, as was Karl Marx.”

This “fierce” gay Jew, according to Hagee, would “slaughter one-third of the Earth’s population” and “make Adolph Hitler look like a choirboy.”

It’s just a wonder that McCain took so long to denounce him, but I guess that the conservative vote was just too valuable to him.

Eww, don’t go there. I got an image of Pfleger serving wine to a shirtless Dudley and Arnold from “Different Strokes”. Yuck.

When I was younger, I used to hate preachers like this, because of their phony showmanship and manipulation. As I’ve gotten older, I just find them funny and darkly entertaining. I’ve actually gone to some of these mega-christian churches with friends purely for fun and the theatrical experience. The fact that people actually believe in this type of garbage really amazes me, but it just shows how gullible and needy human beings are. People actually buy what this dude and his “black preacher drag” is selling. I remember years ago some televangelist convinced viewers to send millions of dollars by a certain date, or God would kill him. Dude got the money. It’s a hustle. Some people peddle Jesus with a fear and hate, and some peddle him with a dose of white guilt an pandering. Hagee, Wright, Pfleger, Robertson, Falwell(the Clinton Chronicals…Hahhahahahahaha), Parsley, Swaggart, Jackson, Sharpton….I think they are ALL a bunch of hustling clowns, and I don’t feel bad for any of the fools who buy into it.

Funny guy you. What moral equivalence. I’m not doing any balancing act, and I’m just calling them all out on being phony, self-rightous clowns. They all have their own quips. You mention Hagee, who talks about the Catholic Church being the Great whore, and called Hitler a hunter, and Hurricane Katrina was a punishment for New Orleans from God.

Any bishop or priest unfaithful to the teachings of the Church should be shown the door without ceremony. Defrock them immediately and return to the orthodox practices of *true* Catholicism.

What did Pfleger say that opposes Church teaching in any obvious way? Speaking out on strictly political issues is bad practice, and depending on when this was taped violates the agreement he made with his bishop to be quiet, but it isn’t like he’s teaching a heresy. I mean, can you show me where the Church in her magisterium has said “America is not the greatest sin?” There are a lot of reasons someone like this shouldn’t be at a parish, but why exactly should he be defrocked?

I’m not saying that he’s right. Fr. Pfleger’s wrong, but he hasn’t fallen into formal or even material heresy. I don’t think ‘America is a sin’ is even grammatically sensible enough to be meaningfully called true or false; but it isn’t heretical. On the other hand, the anti-Pflegerites and the folks talking about withholding their tithes are inching towards a form of Donatism or Jansenism. If you’re so set on *true* Catholicism, you need to remember that political questions are only theological questions when they are also moral questions.

Dakine. Thank you for your thoughtful rejoinder(s). Your Sophomore..”blue book treatise” was LONG on “angry”, but way way toooo short on substance.
Let’s review your “macho diatribe”. Shall we?
1)”Religion is a hustle”. WOW PROFOUND!
2)You are “tough”, because you call out those who you disagree with, by calling their opinions….INANE CRAP!!!!”
BUT!! You don’t refute said “INANE CRAP”, you merely AD HOMINEM aforementioned “inane crap” writers as CANDY ASS WANNABE TOUGH GUY KEY BOARD WARRIORS” You continue to ad hominem pontificate about “WORLD CLASS TOOLS” etc etc etc etc.
Dakine, NO-WHERE in your SILLY LIB PAP RANT, did you REFUTE ANYTHING.
You’re a CLOWN. Don’t be offended! I understand that you DISAGREE with me and another commentator, but if you weren’t a REEEEETARD, you would have LOGICALLY REFUTED MY WORDS.
    YOU DID NOT REFUTE ME.

You didn’t. Ergo. You are an ass-clown.

You know, I am getting pretty sick of people saying how Trinity, Wright, and no Father Racist have done such wonderful things for the community, how they are doing such great works and ministries, etc., etc., etc., as if that is supposed to make any of this crap more palatable.

Just because they go and do some good should not and does not give them a pass on all this rhettoric that has been coming out of that place.

Hitler did a great deal of good for Germany in the 30’s as well. Does that mean we should give him a pass on all the evil he was responsible for? Stalin? Castro? No. So why should there be these mitigating issues presented every time someone points out the hate and racism spewing forth from anyone related to this “church”.

Why should we give B. Hussein “Empty Suited Messiah” a pass on any of it as well? He has stated…is on record in many different forms…that Trinity is a very large part of who and what he is, and that Wright and Pflager were both his “Spiritual Advisors” amongst other things. obama was there for 20 years. These two people did not just suddenly fly off the handle and leave the reservation two+ months ago. They did not come up with these beliefs and philosophies over night after Obama became the front-runner. No. These feelings, beliefs and philosophies were nurtured for YEARS and have come out more than once from that “religious” pulpit in that “Den of Iniquity” called a Church. There is no way on God’s green earth that either of these two “men” did not ever broach any of these subjects with Obama either in private or in his office or anywhere else before, during or after he became a U.S. Senator and Presidential Candidate.

The fact thatobama maintained friendships with these two scum-wads after the first time, let alone any of the subsequent times is a clear indication that he believes in, supports, and more than likely…contributes to their philosophies more than enthusiastically. It is only now, having had it come to the public light, that Obama is playing the innocent, hoping…apparently quite successfully…that the people of this country are just that incredibly stupid and gullible to believe him when he does the “shuck and jive” about how “shocked and dismayed” he is concerning what they are saying and doing.

This is the man that they want in the White House. A biotted, racist with more than fanatically insane ideals and beliefs, cleverly trying to keep them all under wraps until after he wins in November.

I really hate to sound like one of those Lunatics on the Left…but shold this creep actually win the election…I am actually quite terrified of what the repercussions will be. This country will take decades to recover from the amount of damage he could do. The fact that he shows signs of being a “Truther” alone is terrifying, let alone what it means for him to think that all islam needs is a hug and a pat on the butt and all will be forgiven and well.

God help all of us, should this person win. There isn’t anyplace on earth that would be safe from the damage that the Democrats and Obama stand to commit should the insane get their way in just 5 short months.

Libocrat again. You started this you pathetic jabroni with your post on 124 which failed to address my points, but rather included another childish, pointless insult. The blogs are just a place for you to vent, and provoke as opposed to exchanging thoughts or strong views. You are a joke. And this right here is great:

Misstress. I’ve got something you’ll never have. Character/Intelligence

Hahateehee. That’s just a lie Libocrat, and I feel sorry for your son.
You treat the blogs as some type of juvenile competition, and endless war of partisan snipes. You casually pick fights that are way off base, and beyond the tone of the threads, and have the nerve to question pissy responses. You are indeed a dummy, due to your idiotic obsession with CAPITAL LETTERS. You are also wholly incapable of sensible disagreement.

I believe it was Dakine who claimed that you are actually a Koskid trying to make conservatives look bad, and really, really moronic on the blogs. That may be the case. Perhaps, your screen name is a knowing wink to your true identity. If you are a mole, then I’d suggest you tone it down, because you are simply pouring it on too thick. Also, don’t you have better things to do? If you aren’t a mole, I’m firmly convinced that you are a drug addict. I don’t get the mentally handicapped vibe I get with other posters here that I choose to no longer bully. You are either a mole, or an unhinged drug addict, and either way a poor example of what a so-called intelligent man should be. Get help.

That about sums it up mistress. My guess is that you and I disagree on quite a few issues, but I find your comments well written and rational, and you only resort to the LCD stuff when absolutely necessary (as with a tool such as libocrap). BTW, I actually think libocrap is kind of a typical way far right fundamentalist Christian who is filled with sort of a righteous anger. A damaged and incomplete person who uses blogs like this one as an outlet for his many and varied issues. Hard wired wrong or just generally messed up.

Props to you also Dakine. You represent conservatives very well. Hell, I can passionately debate and or jokingly needle with most conservatives here. There’s always punks out there who need to be “helped over the fence”. I work very closely with right wingers whom I respect, and a couple are very close friends of mine. Of course these friends of mine also have common sense, tolerance and intelligence. Take care, Dakine.
