Pfleger: “America is the greatest sin against God;” new “statement” to come?

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 2, 2008 12:00 AM

More video of Rev. Michael “Vanilla Ice” Pfleger’s race-baiting sermon last week at Trinity United Church of Christ has emerged on YouTube. Boy, was he on a roll. If you thought his bug-eyed, Jeremiah Wright wannabe mimickry of Hillary Clinton’s “white entitlement” was over the top, you’ll love the new excerpts in which Pfleger inveighs that “America is the greatest sin against God.” (”God damn America” was already taken, of course.)

My question is: What will it take for the Catholic Church to cut themselves loose of this racial huckster? “Have the balls” to fire him already. (See also Catholics against Pfleger.)

(Hat tip – HA headlines. More here.)

Pfleger is complaining about “ugly” rhetoric–and is promising to make a statement today. Chutzpah:

The Rev. Michael Pfleger, who helped reignite Barack Obama’s pastor problems by mocking Hillary Clinton, said this evening he’s received “thousands of hate threats” since his videotaped pulpit rant.

“They want to kill me,” Pfleger told parishioners during a service in a St. Sabina Church chapel on Chicago’s South Side this evening. “It’s been very ugly.”

In his brief comments this evening, Pfleger did not name any candidates, and said he would address the controversy at a Sunday mass at St. Sabina.

“I’m not going to make a statement,” Pfleger told the crowded chapel. “My real statement will be tomorrow.”

But he did say it’s been a difficult week filled with an unspecified surgery on Tuesday and a deluge of threats.

“It’s a very difficult situation,” he said. “I’ve received thousands of hate threats.”

He did not offer any specifics from the pulpit, and declined through an aide to comment further. That included declining a specific request by the Sun-Times for a comment on Obama’s decision to leave Trinity church.

Meanwhile: The Axelrod-Pfleger connection.

Obama, for his part, continues to rely on his apologist talking point about how all of his men of bad faith are being quoted out of context.

In what context does “America is the greatest sin against God” not sound like the demagogic spewing that it is?

***
James Lewis at the American Thinker presses the Catholic Church:

Father Pfleger brings public scandal to the Church. He clearly and obviously, on videotape, preaches racial hatred. He does so with plenty of prior rehearsal and maybe coaching, in order to sound just like race-baiting ole’ Reverend Wright, who has apparently been conducting a school for race baiters over at Trinity United. The Democrat Party of Chicago, Louis Farrakhan, the whole den of thieves of the Illinois Democrat Machine has obviously known about this for decades. The radical Left and ACORN (Obama’s “community organizing” radicals) must have known all about it. The Obamas were up to their necks in guilty knowledge. The Clintons knew. Everybody knew…

…Does the Catholic Church recognize any responsibility to deal with Father Pfleger? Do the words of Vatican II mean anything in practice?

Amazing. Obama cuts himself loose NOW, which confirms the fact that he didn’t really care about the hate-preaching from his Reverend.

Don’t look for any objective coverage from the MSM: When Obama gve his speech, it was a defense of Wright. When Wright went farther and when Pfleger surfaced, he finally cut the knot. In both cases Obama is a saint to Chris Matthews…because to the MSM, Mr Good Judgement doesn’t make bad decisions. Bad things ‘happen to him’ and anything he does to get out of them is “the right decision.”

Since the man believes America is such a horrid place, the Church should dispatch him to an envoronment more suitable to his tastes – the Sudan comes to mind. They could use a good champion for Christianity in that country.

If the Church hasn’t figured it out yet, this man is a profound embarrassment to all US Catholics. Pfleger is about as far away from a man of God as you are going to see anywhere in the world.

Since the Diocese of Chicago refuses to take any subtantive action to relieve Pfleger of his duties and dispatch him out of the country, perhaps some subtle persuasion is in order. This doesn’t just effect Catholics in Chicago – it effects Catholics everywhere. The Church can take its time dealing with Pfleger, and Catholics can take their time making contributions to the Church. I’ll sit on my wallet until the blight is removed.

bayou22, we can only hope a lot of people are disillusioned with him. However, I’m not so sure. One of my older sister said she might vote for either Obama or McCain. She had never heard of Wright, Rezko, Ayers, or Michelle Obama (only half-joking on the last one). After I told her about Ayers, she said it definitely influenced her to rethink voting for him.

My point it: moderately political people like my sister, who listen to NPR, have probably never heard or Wright, Rezkoo or Ayers. And they probably won’t.

The problem with Obama voters is that it isn’t abouot qualifications in the first place, it’s entirely about projecting personal ideas about “goodness” and “fairness” and “newness” onto Obama. Once they’ve made up their mind, once they’ve seen that Che Guevarian poster, they need know no more.

Protestant and Catholic churches will get rid of deadweights like Phlegger when he no longer brings in the money .
Moreover since no one wants to do his kind of job, he will get to keep his despite his blasphemy.
This is one my problems with modern Christianity-the churches are driven for money, power, cliques and feminism, not doing what God would want.

I could tell you all of a few tawdry tales of what I observed during my time as a voting member of a protestant church-and I eventually and willingly left that environment.

No I have not lost my beliefs, I just don’t know where I could go to worship and not be chagrined again.

Who does the following quote remind you of?

Hitler promised the people employment and the return to socio-economic well-being. He presented himself as a prophet and was so portrayed by his paladins and followers. He possessed charismatic appeal and was experienced by multitudes as a captivating orator who gave them hope and they willing submitted to his wishes and dictates. Joseph Goebbels and other Nazi leaders availed themselves of modern technology to spread Nazi ideological propaganda to reinforce Hitler’s personal power and appeal. A personality cult was developed which made the people stand in awe of Hitler. Hitler was accepted as supreme leader who could not fail and do no wrong.

The mechanisms and techniques are the same, just the names and places are different.

    From Wikipedia:

A cult of personality or personality cult arises when a country’s leader uses mass media to create a heroic public image through unquestioning flattery and praise. Cults of personality are often found in dictatorships but can be found in some democracies as well.

It seems like the media and the Democrat party is doing its level best to build a cult of personality around Obama.

I have a bad feeling it will work out just as well as all the other examples.

Statement of apology to the church family.
Last Sunday, I was invited by Trinity United Church of Christ to come and preach on the topic of race. …

Last Sunday, I was invited by Trinity United Church of Christ to come and preach on the topic of race.

I agreed to do so because of my love for Trinity, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Rev. Otis Moss, III and because all my life I have sought to deal with the reality of racism. As I said, Last Sunday, I have committed myself to tear down the walls that divide us wherever they stand.

In 1966, as a junior in high school, amidst all the hate and meanness that surrounded me in Marquette Park, I heard more than the voice of Dr. king calling for community over chaos. I heard that small voice from within, that said, I am showing you this now, because you must spend your life trying to eradicate this.

The last few days have been the most painful days of my life, even more so than the murder of Jarvis, my foster son.

For years I have had to deal with media that have sought to define me and often times put me into their box or stereotype.

But that was the cost of being a public figure and for fighting in public battles. But this was a new level, when the world is meeting you for the first time from a dramatization in a sermon that I felt was in the sacredness of a sanctuary, among people who know me and then find a “Youtube” that in no way defines the sermon or the message that I preached, nor the person or pastor that I am. It is painful and shattering.

It is painful that as a result of this video over 3,000 email of hate, threats, and name calling, who go so far as to ask you to kill yourself or take your life, greet you in less than 24 hours, and you are bombarded by mean hateful and racial name calling, yes, it is very painful.

It is also grieving to me when a 1.5 minute “Youtube” video becomes the headlines across the world of papers and news stations, while the tragedy and death of earthquakes, cyclones, and tornadoes that have taken lives of people around this world, while the killing of our children across the country and here in Chicago, and the easy access to guns have become stories on page 18 and 19, and while people are at my front door, looking for food to eat or gas to get to work, indeed that grieves me.

Brothers and sisters, racism is an explosive and sensitive sin in our world and it is against the command to love, and against the God of love.

I said on Thursday, I apologize for words that I chose. I apologize for my dramatization that was for many who do not know me, simply typical dramatics I often use in sermons.

I apologize for anyone who was offended and who thought it to be mockery, that was not my intent, nor my heart.

For whatever damage that was caused to any human being and for any offense felt, especially to any of the candidates or their families, I am deeply sorry and I pray that my apology will be accepted even by those who say they won’t accept it.

I am neither a racist nor a sexist. I am constrained by this great Gospel that I have been called to preach, to be an agent of reconciliation, as well as a truth teller.

However – we must, if we are to move forward and become who God has called us to be as a human family, we must be willing to have an honest and open discussion on race and justice, and it must be on the equal ground at the foot of Calvary.

We have as a Country done many great things, but we will never become a great Country until justice flows like a river and righteousness like a mighty stream, for each and every human life.

As for what is next, I ask that you wrap me in prayer – I don’t know.

I ask that you pray, that I still might be a voice of truth, in season and out of season, and that I might have the courage to bear whatever wounds that may cost.

As for my defining – Dr. King, my mentor said, that he only wanted to be remembered as a Drum Major for Justice and indeed that is my only hope, and that is what I have tried to do since that afternoon in Marquette Park.

Hate me if you will. Hate my imperfect presentation. Hate my imperfect dramatization. Hate my imperfect articulation. I have never presumed to be anything, but imperfect, but I pray I can still beat the drum of justice, even if sometimes I am off beat.

    Thank you.

Statement of apology to the church family.

Scary dude, indeed. I may have to vote for McCain after all. There can be a huge difference between bad and worse.

    Bingo.

The two forms of mental laziness we will have to overcome in November are:

    1. The willful ignorance of the Obama worshippers. Others here have already pointed out how so many of them have no idea of his sand-poundingly poor judgment when it comes to the people he associates with, and their general unwillingness to learn. Recall that John Kerry still got what, 60 million votes in 2004 despite all that was revealed about him? It’ll be the same with The New Messiah. There really are none so blind as those who will not see.

    2. Conservatives who, in their quest for perfection in a Republican presidential candidate, breezily equate McCain with Obama and say that they’ll vote for neither. As it becomes more and more obvious just what kind of a man Obama is, his campaign theme is going to have to change from “Change we can believe in” to “All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing conservatives to stay home and pout or throw away their votes.”

Not really looking for perfection. You have to have your head in the clouds in order to believe you’ll find that in any man here on earth. What I believe we are looking for is a Republican candidate who stands on Republican principles. Unashamedly and unapologetically, of course. :-)

That, of course, is not the issue here.

The issue is that Barry is exposing himself for two things:

    1) He’s a political opportunist just like so many others, hence the “change” he keeps droning on about is just change for change’s sake, and is not beneficial; and

    2) He’s as radical as they come (something the MSM will NEVER report, since they like it that way).

They agree with Pfleger in many ways, and give Rome the proverbial finger.

Bob, you are certainly correct. Hillary is helping to achieve a major schism in the Democrat party and that is great. I know the democrats are notorious for killing each other and then holding hands the next day, but hatred and racism runs deeper than that and I don’t see a lot of the true democrats voting for a black man when they have had years and years of hating the race.

I think we will see Obama getting his wacko liberal votes, McCain getting his racist, moderate democrat votes and then there leaves the true republican voter, 20+ million strong. I think we are doing ourselves a disservice by even wasting our time talking about McCain and not instead spending our time recruiting a new candidate.

As for his “vigorous campaigning”, don’t get suckered by the press spin…vigorous was never Fred’s style to begin with, and his reluctance to be President wasn’t due to a lack of personal enthusiasm, but rather to having to endure the rigors of a modern campaign.

Thompson always said he was lead to run because he felt he could simply help this country. His “First Principles” spelled it out very clear, he was motivated by the greater good over any personal ambition.

If there’s any “Dark Horse” in this year’s Election who’d have a chance of winning the White House, I think it’d be Fred. He was literally “head & sholders” above any other candidate.
