Babs Boxer: What better time to raise taxes than during a recession!
Via Marc Morano, here’s your eco-nitwit thought of the day from Babs Boxer:
Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), the chairman of the Environment & Public Works Committee, declared in her opening floor speech today that a “recession is the precise time to” enact the Lieberman-Warner global warming cap-and-trade bill because it “brings us hope.”
The Lieberman-Warner global warming bill would have many consequences, but “hope” is not among them. The Cleveland Plain Dealer editorialized on June 1, that the bill “will just bore new holes into an already battered economy.” American workers, already suffering from a weakening economy, skyrocketing home energy, and gas prices would face more economic pain under the bill. With average gas prices across the country approaching or at $4 a gallon, the Senate’s global warming “de-stimulus” bill will further drive up the cost at the pump.
Despite these economic woes, Senator Boxer claimed that now is the “precise time” to pass a bill that will raise energy prices. “Why do this [the Lieberman-Warner bill] now? We’re in a recession. Precisely because we’re in a recession is why we should be doing this. This bill is the first thing that brings us hope,” Senator Boxer said during her opening remarks on the Senate floor today.
We’re in a recession. Ergo, tax the poor!

They won’t quit until they we go to work, they get our pay, and they dole out our allowances, will they?
Stop taking my money, you eco-nuts and corrupt politicians.
I’m sick and tired of you living high off the hog while the rest of us have to pay more out of our pocket for your bloated government.
Seriously. If a corporation ran the way the government does, the CEOs would be in prison for mismanagement and fraud.
You don’t need hope, Babs. You need a clue.
When all else fails – raise taxes! Great, while [raising taxes] is bringing the folks on Capitol Hill, hope. I’ll be back here in New Jersetaxy drowning from taxes at both the State and Federal level. Brilliant!
We’re not in a recession.
But, thanks to her, we will be.
“Barbara Boxer Isn’t Smarter Than A Fifth Grader…”
Hardly news, wouldn’t you agree?
The woman’s an idiot, this is provable and bearable. What takes getting used to is that there are so many other idiots that she keeps getting elected. That’s what I find hard to digest – that such a depth of stupidity exists and appears to be growing…
Unbelievable… And what’s even worse is that so many “Republicans” seem to be supporting it. If this ever passes we are headed for financial ruin and we’ll surely drop from our superpower status, but that’s probably what they want.
“We’re in a recession. Precisely because we’re in a recession is why we should be doing this. This bill is the first thing that brings us hope,” Senator Boxer said during her opening remarks on the Senate floor today.”
The woman is certifiably insane. Hope? For what, a depression?
Welcome to my sad little world. Time to move to Montana.
That friggin’ audacity of hope raising its ugly head again.
Why does this remind me of the commercial – “This is your brain – This is your brain on drugs.”
It would be great is we could require elected leaders to take an introductory class in economics.
Boxer is a moron.
orlandocajun,
It [hope] worked for Obie’s campaign…
Put a positive spin on what might be the straw that broke the camel’s back and people will not only accept it, they want it all the more.
As far as they’re concerned, any time is a good time to raise taxes.
Recession: raise taxes
Full blown depression: raise taxes
Economic boom: raise taxes
110% unemployment: raise taxes
110% employment: raise taxes
This woman should be smacked in the head with a cricket bat.
Another example of stupidity at its highest level…lets tax people while we’re already overtaxed and overstreched by a democrat controlled congress who just want more out of my paycheck.
Send these people down to Mexico. They’d fit right in with the culture of corruption there.
Put a positive spin on what might be the straw that broke the camel’s back and people will not only accept it, they want it all the more.
Repeat a lie enough and people will begin to believe it’s the truth.
Boxer is easily one of the dumbest people in Congress.
1. We’re NOT in a recession.
2. But pass your dumb bill and we probably will be in one in a hurry.
It’s thanks only to the inept CA GOP that out of 40 million people, it can’t find a single person who can beat her in an election.
In the words of the great and wise philosopher Bugs Bunny:
Yep, the elitist idiots on the left won’t be happy until everyone of use has been reduced to indentured servitude to the Nanny State. This potential serf has just about had it with you lying crapweasels. It is time to fire up the torches, sharpen the pitch forks, heat up some tar, and gather some feathers. Barbara stuck on stupid is no way to go through life.
tre,
Only a Dem could think that raising our taxes would give us hope. Taxation without representation.

Hmmm, seems right out of the same book as these gems from Marx…
“The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property.”
“For the bureaucrat, the world is a mere object to be manipulated by him.”
Remember, they got elected because of their “vision.”
Are there no conservatives left in CA? If so, why don’t you run for office?
NEWSPEAK! War is Peace. Weakness is Strength. Taxes are Properity!?!? Sheesh!
Yes, let’s just make life even harder for the average, American taxpayer, Boxer. What freakin’ planet do you libs live on?
How does increasing one’s taxes bring “hope?” I think somebody has been sucking up the Obummer fumes and doesn’t know the difference between the words “hope” and “doom.”
What better time to kick a man than when he is down?
Remember, this is the same idiot that was caught bouncing over 700 checks at the House Bank a decade or so ago. All the while, being a millionaire thanks to her husband. Even better, not only was this clueless knowitall re-elected, she ended up on the House Banking Committee when she reported to Congress. Who says politicians don’t have a sense of humor?
Dems have done this in Michigan for the past 3 – 4 years and look at the results there.
As Michael Savage said, if Boxer hadn’t moved to California, she’d be selling bras in Brooklyn.
You know, the republicans and democrats haven’t really done anything for anybody. Wouldn’t it be great if citizens would show the politicans how to unite by voting all of these bums out of office.
Time for another Tea Party?
I wonder how much money these Eco terrorists receive from OPEC? Everytime they stop a nuclear plant from being built, stop a wind farm or stop a company from drilling for oil it just makes more money for OPEC.
Must be something behind it. It would be interesting to see where the funding for these Environmental lobbyists comes from.
.
She must mean ‘hope’ as in
‘we hope this tax increase brings more $$ into the social welfare kitty, so that I can get more votes to stay in this job.’
Now I get it. All this ‘hope’ Obama keeps talking about is actually a massive tax increase. In which case ‘change’ would be new government spending. Note: this is not to be confused with ‘contributions’ and ‘investments’ of Clinton-speak.
What the hay? Boxer is so out of touch with real America. This is usually the by-product of being a rather protected name brand in liberal bag of skin.
Hey, Barbara: How about building a damn refinery in your state–or allowing a little petro exploration off the coast of your state? Have you been to Long Beach? No one (sane) swims there anyway…what are you protecting? Your legacy? Your moonbat constituency?
It doesn’t matter Michelle, taxes will go up with the next president. They have to. There is no way to hide the massive amount of government spending anymore. The budget deficit is growing every year, the national debt is out of control, other nations are losing trust in our treasuries, ergo less money to borrow and inflation to export.
The high gas/food/commodity prices are a symptom of the government’s money printing to make ends meet. Inflation is their new MO, and it will fail as well, destroying the middle class in its wake. Our congress/president seem to have their heads in the sand, and are still passing massive spending bills.
This sh*tstorm will hit the next president, and hard. They will be forced to raise taxes, as the recession will not end with the Federal Reserve’s MO of simply printing money.
There will be two choices: Massively cut government spending, or massively raise taxes. Can you guess what any of the three candidates will choose?
On June 3rd, 2008 at 12:10 pm,
Yep, I’m sorry to say that I voted for both her and DiFi back in ‘86 or so when I lived in CA. Only took one term for me to see the seriousness of my error.
Now I have to deal with the fact that I voted for John McCain last election cycle. Gaaaaah!
Money isn’t their primary currency… power is. Whatever it takes, whoever has to suffer (I’ll give you a hint: it won’t be them!) and they will crush the economy because it doesn’t matter to them anyway. Means to an end.
I’m confused. How will Lieberman-Warner cause Babs to slip and fall in her bath tub? ’splain please.
Jimnospin,
You have, what we in the business call – buyer’s remorse. Now, now, I know. You had no way knowing what you were doing and it’s okay. I’m here to help.
You can buy my self-help book for a low introductory price of $59.95 and I will throw in one counseling session
absolutely freefor $99.95. So you see, for less than $160 I can make sure that you never, ever have to experience buyer’s remorse ever again. Cash only. Please.I gotta say… I’m speechless. This woman (and probably her constituents) is as stupid as a human can possibly be. It’s clear the congressional marxists think they are like kids loose in the candy store. How can we survive as a nation if they take both houses of Congress and the White House. They will collapse the country within two years. We will be in an economic “nuclear winter” that will be impossible to recover from.
And if that’s not enough, check this out: http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/06/03/america/03venez.php If Chavez can do it, so will Obie. Hang on to your hats girls, we are in for a rough ride.
Anyone notice how all the new hoax taxes get used?
The Democrats should have chosen a real person to front their scam. It’s interesting to see how Democrats don’t care a bit about you, your well being, your financial wealth or freedom and liberty. It’s good to see who the liberals really are, exemplified by Comrade Obama.
McAMENSTY is on his own personal power trip, so that’s not much better.
How did America end up with such a group of schmucks to pick from.
Yet another moron in government.
#39 30 pcs of silver:
You forgot the “aftercare” social work-inspired program of weekly meetings for six months @ $99 per session.
Charge it to you HMO.
this is one of the reasons why I converted my car to run off of waste vegetable oil…
In other news… “The beatings will continue until moral improves!”
Thanks Cosmo!
How could I have forgotten the
motherloadthe needs of the patients. Yes, weekly sessions are to make certain that you do not relapse. We wouldn’t want you regretting your decisions…now would we?Babs and the rest of the dem’s and RINO’s are not stupid, they are self-centered, pompous, arrogant, elitists that know how to work the system they designed for themselves.
The hardest part to accept, is looking at how many really dumb constituents keep voting these fools in office.
Most politicians have forgotten “they work for us, we don’t serve them”
CAP AND TRADE MY A$$, call it what it is, CAP AND TAX!!!
Trade adds to the economy in a positve way.
Taxes have a negative impact on the economy!!
First Kanjorski, now Babs… Liberals make my head hurt.
Idiots all.
There are times when I think it would be great to hand this country over to libs and let them have their way with it, just for the pleasure of watching their society slide into chaos and all the moonbats slowly waste away as they try to create their utopia. Unfortunately this would cause untold pain and suffering to normal Americans in the process. Maybe we could rent Canada for a few years and watch from afar and return to pick up the pieces after the last few have starved to death in their caves.
jsr,
Sounds like a page from Ayn Rand’s book – Atlas Shrugged.
We’re not in a recession yet, but we soon will be, hastened by the nitwits among us.
30,
Good pick-up. It has been many years since I read Atlas Shrugged but as I recall the producers decide to return to society when it collapses and chaos ensues. I wouldn’t be so generous as to return so quickly and save the libs from themselves after just a few day or weeks of suffering. I say let them live off the land like Indians for a few years to let it sink in what it really means to live in harmony with nature, if any of them survive to learn the lesson.

They wouldn’t last long. When was the last time that you saw A herd of TOFU?
I wonder if this has been run by Minitrue. It certainly fits the Ingsoc ideology, though. But let us extend it:
War is peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength, And All We Need to Give us Hope in a Recession is Higher Taxes.
From Orwell’s 1984:
Maybe we should send all members of congress and house a copy of Atlas Shrugged!
FruNoblux,
1984 hits a little too close to home. Everything in it reminds me of liberals and their vision for the US.
Re: xler8bmw
Man we’d then see a book burning not witnessed since, well… you get the idea.
Hey, the government needs your money! You still have some left – fork it over!
#58 lol. It’s scary because here is a paragraph from the book. Pork is a perfect example of them lining their pockets.
Because of the government’s socialist policies, the collapse of the U. S. economy is imminent. Francisco d’Anconia destroys his holdings and disappears because his properties worldwide are about to be nationalized. He leaves the “looters”—the parasites who feed off the producers—nothing, wiping out millions of dollars belonging to corrupt American investors like James Taggart. Meanwhile, politicians use their economic power to create their own personal empires. In one such scheme, the Taggart freight cars needed to haul the Minnesota wheat harvest to market are diverted to a project run by the relatives of powerful politicians. The wheat rots at the Taggart stations, the farmers riot, farms shut down (as do many of the companies providing them with equipment), people lose their jobs, and severe food shortages result.
my morale is so shot full of holes, they will just be beating a dead horse.
complete and total maroons!
Even Orwell after the Spanish War saw socialism as BAD!
Re: 30 pcs of silver
I take it you’re including Bush and McCain in ‘liberal’ category? Nothing reminds me more of 1984 than combining many nations into Unions (Oceania), Massive surveillance of the citizenry, limits to political speech, Indoctrination centers for all children (public schools), Fear mongering to keep the citizen’s attention somewhere else (Emmanuel Goldstein), and of course – ‘War is Peace’.
Boxer is a Dem. In her view, there’s never a BAD time to raise taxes!
Ahh a lion,
Absolutely. I find it very difficult to differentiate the RINOs from their counterparts and will do no such thing anymore.
I tried giving GW the benefit of doubt… that didn’t work out so well.
Like I said, 1984 hits a little too close to home. It’s frightening when you think about it. Yet, they’ll continue on this collision course. I’m guessing they think that they can make all of the failed “isms” work the
secondfifth time around.Right. And the Democrat’s mantra is, of course, “Capitulation is Peace”.
#66
The democrats historically are just as entitled to Orwellian ‘War is Peace’ as are the new Republicans of today.
Why should she care? She’s loaded. Or her husband is…
Ah! It will give us HOPE™!
Actually it’ll be something more like a swift kick in the teeth to normal Americans, but Babs doesn’t have to worry about that. After all, she’s smarter than we are.
I know our Revolution was about “Taxation without Representation.”
But, ya know sumpin’, taxation WITH representaion ain’t so good either.
I need to go ride by Harley a while to clear my mind of all these negative vibes.
it would also be the only thing we’re left with.
Oh, now I understand what Obama and the liberals mean when they talk about bringing us hope. It’s a code word for higher taxes and bigger government. Yes, of all the things to hope for, higher taxes is number one on my list.
What I don’t understand is why Sen Boxer said this bill is the “first thing that brings us hope.” Does that mean she has never had hope in America before, like Michelle Obama has never been proud of America before?
Hope is for pansies! Give me action and this doesn’t do it. Ignoring the fact she is trying to convince us we are in a recession, hope is a waste of time. Hope is what you do when you are dead and nothing left. Hope doesn’t pay the bills, hope doesn’t clean up the waters (or whatever), hope does spur economic growth.
Why didn’t she just call in David Coperfield and start talking about Magic. I would much rather listen to some Senate buffon give a long rambling speech on magic.
Barbara Boxer is actually espousing a new concept on the left: Supply Side Environmentalism: Shrinking the economy to get less environmental impact. The idea is, that if we are not working, we are not creating green house gasses.

Hmm…
This global baloney tax anything that moves is such a stupid idea, it deserves looking behind the curtain to see what’s really it’s goal.
Taxing the lower and middle incomes who’ve been getting a bigger and bigger free ride with the income tax may have some merit.
Perhaps if one could trade (aka repeal) the income tax for an energy tax, you’d really be getting somewhere.
oBORGama in 08,
Tax the ignorant, ain’t it great!
No thanks. It sounds too similar to my book “How to stop being so gullible” for only $149.95 that I don’t think it would help me. Thx for the thought, though!
Boxer and her socialist colleagues need to read Atlas Shrugged. It won’t be long…
Did you miss that California is already Mexico again?
For Democrats every day, any day is a good day to raise taxes.
Well, I guess that after this idea gives us all of the hope that a deeper recession and higher unemployment can bring, we can look for a revival of FDR’s alphabet soup of make work government jobs programs.
Never a dull moment with this wacky babe is there?
Americans can’t afford health insurance.
They are paying through their noses for the Gas.
High food prices, a slumping real estate market, stagnating ecomony.
The cure for all these blues is to raise the cost of goods and services, all in the name of curing the earth’s fever.
Higher costs will be rolled into products and services.
But don’t worry. Government is somehow going to protect the Poor and Middle class. With precise execution, this time it surely will hit only the Rich.
Vast right-wing propaganda machine is spewing lies about more married couples getting snarled into a tax net known as “Alternate Minimum Tax”. It is a myth. Only the rich are forced to pay the AMT.
I am having a sweet dream: I am in the good hands of our government, well taken care of.
Please don’t wake me up.
Sure, raising our taxes now, while we’re struggling to make ends meet as it is, is a great idea, Congress. That is, if I was drunk, and on drugs. That would be the only time I could justify such a stupid action.
…since ‘Fahrenheit 451′
where do you get this information?
This is the right thing to do!
Despite the naysayers who have factual, scientific reasons for doubting the manmade global warming hypothesis, we know (in our guts) that MGW is a fact, and we have to do something about it now!
If we do something, it should be dramatic – like, uh, like, killing our economy so we are on the level of like VietNam. or, or like since we are one of the most environmentally conscious nations on earth – we need to pay for our consumerism! Yeah! After all, we could have clean, cheap, safe nuclear power and use electric cars — but no, let’s stop all nuclear power plants, punish our clean use of coal (while ignoring Russia’s and China’s very dirty use of coal), and move toward totally economically infeasible alternatives – wind and solar power. We need to make sure not to ruin Sen Kennedy’s view while we put out the windfarms, and no rodents should be endangered (Franks). Anyway, we could be the really, really, really cool guys if we all try! Really!
All the USA envy would be gone! Of course, that would be because we would be irrelevant, but that would be good! Then we could learn Maoist thought, the benefits of socialized medicine, and how to survive on two bowls of rice a day.
Hope is when the political class begins to trust the will and wisdom of the people, and believes that a free people acting as a free people make everything better for everyone. Passing feel good legislation and raising taxes undermines not only the Constitution and Bill of Rights, but the entire nation. Eventually, if you take everyone’s dollar then you have the United Socialist States of America (USSA).
We are becoming more and more like the bankrupt European nations every day and it is not a pretty future to behold.
Totally of topic but Tre why is it that all Harley owners need to say I have to take a Harley ride? Do you need to justify in your mind that you paid WAY to much for a POS that just makes noise and doesn’t do much else?
Myself I go on a bike or motorcycle ride. I would push my YAMAHA FJR 1300 for miles before I EVER rode one of those cave man technology bikes AKA Harleys.
Sorry for the off topic folks these things just get my goat. Back to the discussion.
Boxer is an IDIOT of the first order. JIMNOSPIN in post number 36 you picked a cadre of losers every time! Are you going to buy a clue sometime soon? Thanks for your part in the great demise. On the bright side at least you can admit your mistakes.
Why is anyone on this thread surprised that Nancy & Co. want to raise taxes – at any time?
ANY time in a good time for them to raise taxes.
If you haven’t noticed, there aren’t many sub-millionaires in either house of Congress – and with the lack of accountability (e.g., term limits or strong ethics laws) thay have no real idea of how this kind of fiscal mis-management hurts us all. They can afford the tax increases – without much fear that they’ll be voted out of office for doing so.
