    Those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it:

    “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence:

    From bondage to spiritual faith;
    From spiritual faith to great courage;
    From courage to liberty;
    From liberty to abundance;
    From abundance to selfishness;
    From selfishness to apathy;
    From apathy to dependence;
    From dependence back into bondage.”

Then, everything will be sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows. It reminds me of the day after election day in 1992. Remember that Bill Clinton rode the “it’s the economy, stupid” slogan to “victory” in the fractured ‘92 race? Well, the day after election day, I remember vividly that Dan Rather came on the air and said that there are signs the economy was looking up! Looking up!! Just two days prior, he had been reporting on the economy being in a tailspin. That was the very moment that the lightbulb came on and I realized for the first time what the MSM was up to. I haven’t trusted them since. We’re going through the same thing, now. The constant badgering on how bad the economy is, how bad the war is going, etc. Everthing will be doom and gloom until election day. Then …

    I’m interested in people’s opinion on a topic I read not too long ago.

    Ms. Malkin has said in the past that she is not a fan of using Barack Obama’s full name.

    The great Michelle Malkin gently chided me for using Obama’s middle name. After my initial shock (after all, anyone who continually refers to “Obamasiah” isn’t someone who shies away from edginess) she went on to explain how the loony left has honed in on her maiden name as a way to try and attack her with some kind of racist smear about her ethnicity. So I think she feels the use of a name to make a point, legitimate or not, is unnecessary.

    http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/MikeGallagher/2008/03/07/barack_hussein_obama

    On topics about Sen. Obama here, we see his middle name used constantly: B. Hussein Obama, Barack HUSSEIN Obama, etc.

    My questions are these:

    Is Ms. Malkin correct that it is not appropiate for people to use his middle name to make a point?

    If it is OK to use an entire middle name, then will those same people use the entire names of the other individuals such as Sen. John Sidney McCain III?

    BTW: Yes, I know people say Hillary Rodham Clinton sometimes. At the same time, I rarely hear people say William Jefferson Clinton unless in a formal setting.

    Thanks.

    What’s on my mind? How disappointed I am in the American people who have shed their patroit armour and put a racist, marxist,person within spitting distance of the Oval Office. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a bad dream as I read other posts where this person is lauded as the savior of this country.
    His supporters are blind sheep that are leading this country down a destructive path, and don’t have the sense to know it. All they can see are many more handouts, and some will quit their jobs to live off of the land–tax free.
    And then there are the conservatives who have shed their armour to give the finger to McCain and the rest of America by sitting home, going fishing, or writing in another name. We’ve had open borders since way before I was born (69 years ago) and since McCain doesn’t seem to want to close them, well, we’ll just give the Country to Barack Hussein Obama, and then reclaim it after four years.
    I’m afraid it won’t be that simple. We might not reclaim the Country for the next 30 years. How long were the democrats in power (The Oval Office and Congress) prior to 94?
    I don’t agree with McCain on several issues, the border being one, but I’ll be diddly- dad- burned if I’ll just turn this Country over to the Communist and terrorist. Putting Barack Hussein Obama in the Oval Office, and democrats in charge of the Country, will do that very thing. I don’t want that on my conscious, by not voting for McCain.

    All issues and serious concerns are deflected and likely will continue to be so: he frames everything as something beneath him (makes him “more grand” and Messianic, I venture to guess) and thereby “doesn’t have to” even comment on much of anything. Just repeats grandiose, meaningless terms like “change, healing, we can, this nation, change…”

    Bring up Rezko. Quote Obama’s empty rhetoric, irresponsible absenteeism in that regard. And what was the wife’s involvement, too, by the way? Does she now respect her big old house or is that something she’s ashamed of, too?

    If there’s “not quite something right” about a man’s middle name, what does that say about the man?

    If someone’s ashamed or embarrassed by their own name, most would do what was necessary to change it. In Obama’s case, he didn’t do that, so, obviously, he’s indicated he’s fine with his name the way it is, and what it is.

    THE POINT is that he’s not fine when others speak his name. Draw your own conclusions. It’s more evidence of that Messianic complex thing.

    Not to me a Mr. Smarty pants or anything, but I had to address that quote. Turns out it’s not actually attributed to Tyler nor is it found in any of his works. It is actually at least two different quotes which can be traced back at least to the 1950’s, or so says the research I read. The first sentence by itself, and the “bondage to spiritual faith” sections have been used by themselves in many political speeches, including Reagan, since the 50’s. It can most likely be described as a modern day proverb attributed to at least two unknown authors. It is a great piece of work though and is historically accurate.

    X2 on this. I see these people with Obama stickers and buttons and I want to shake ‘em and wake ‘em up. In addition to being a racist, Obama is a liar. On top of it, he’s not only getting a free pass from the media, they’re basically behaving like one of his campaign offices.

    I’m feeling pretty sick and pessimistic right now.

    Add me to the list. Right now I’m more optimistic about the future of Israel than I am the USA.

    As I sit and listen to young folks in my neighborhood talking about this presidential race I have to admit I am terribly afraid for my country. We have an entire generation that is incapable of critical thought and logic is totally beyond their ability. We are where we are because we have dumbed down our schools and worried more about self esteem than education. We have not taught the 30 and under electorate how to think beyond themselves. It’s no wonder that we end up with candidates succeeding with nothing more than “hope and change” as a platform.

    I’m wondering if Drudge is for Obama. I read a column at Politico about that on Monday, and now I see “Time for Healing” with a picture of Obama covered by his fans.

    I have a feeling the guy writing the talking points for the rest of press nation is playing for the other team.

    hrm. For the 2nd day in a row, CNN completely drop a red-letter ‘breaking news’ story with no further mention whatsoever. I’m beginning to think they’re just making stories up to keep people on their site.

    Here’s where your charity dollars really go. The DNC convention is receiving funds from the ‘Friends of New Orleans’ charity.

    From ‘The Denver Post’.

    Pays to be careful who you send your charity money to. I’d like to know if this breaks any FEC laws or laws about solciting charitable dollrs for one purpose and then using them for political purposes.

    Obama’s middle name.
    I use it for two reasons.
    One is that others use ‘messiah’ when referencing B. Hussein and that is extremely offensive to me. I get the ‘joke’ but it’s just offensive.
    Second is B. Hussein continues to lie about his childhood and the schools where he was considered a Muslim and studied Islam daily ( not to mention he is 8% black, 50 % white and 42% arab…he is not even LEGALLY an African American)
    If he owns up to the truth about his muslim past, I’ll drop it.

    I doubt I can get allahpundit nor anyone else to stop with the messiah crap, but one out of two would be a start.

    On a side note, IT IS HIS NAME. Why should we back off of another subject about this guy? Is anything about his past a topic we can discuss or even mention?
    Look what they do to President Bush.
    Barack Hussein Obama, IT IS HIS NAME, why is that so wrong?
    I didn’t name him, it is part of his life and, he wants to be my president.

    Thursday Morning Greetings Mrs. Malkin and loyal community,

    In sorrow for my short-sighted comfort-seeking countrymen, I wish to endorse Sea_Dog’s contribution of this morning:

    “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence:

    From bondage to spiritual faith;
    From spiritual faith to great courage;
    From courage to liberty;
    From liberty to abundance;
    From abundance to selfishness;
    From selfishness to apathy;
    From apathy to dependence;
    From dependence back into bondage.”

    —Alexander Fraser Tyler

    Thank you Mrs. Malkin for this well-tended venue, thank you Sea_Dog for your most cogent contribution, and let there be prayers that His wisdom will yet attend us!

    Free hugs in Berkeley? A simple little concept, but in my opinion brilliant:

    I know a lot of you are going to think this is wacky Berkeley liberalism at it’s finest, but I would ask you to think about the underlying concept.

    I don’t know if you would get the same reactions standing on a street corner in Atlanta or Chicago or Boston, or anywhere, but you probably would on any college campus in America.

    These kids are our bright future and this simple video displays something that all politicians and religious leaders should be reminded of: Openness, acceptance, kindness.

    I’m thinking Obama is going to be the next POTUS, and I wonder what exactly he will do about illegal aliens, shamnesty, etc. Yes, I know what he has said and done up to now, but there’s politics and there’s reality. I want to know what he plans to do as POTUS about this hideous problem. Will he push for shamnesty with all is energy? Or, just muck around with it as George Bush has done? Any chance for a flipflop?
