Early in the investigations, based upon unknown evidence, Democratic Rep. John Murtha (PA) stated that “there was no firefight, there was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”
Barack Obama, asked about Murtha’s charge by Alan Colmes in June of 2006, stated, “I would never second guess John Murtha… I think he’s somebody who knows of which he speaks.”
Murtha’s “in cold blood” statement and the Democratic Presidential nominee’s unquestioning acceptance came seven months before the military charged eight Marines with various offenses in December of 2006. Charges against five of the eight Marines have since be dropped for lack of evidence, and in the first of three scheduled trials, Grayson has been acquitted. It remains to be seen if Rep. Murtha or Senator Obama will offer Lt. Grayson an apology, cold-blooded, or otherwise.
Of the two cases remaining, only Staff Sergeant Frank Wuterich faces charges directly related to the killings. The most serious charges he faces are nine counts of involuntary manslaughter. Curiously, his case has been postponed indefinitely, and was not expected to resume until after both of his military defense attorneys had retired, weakening his defense in a complex case. Late-breaking information from Bruce Kessler of The Democracy Project, who has been covering the Haditha cases in detail, states that Lt. Col. Colby Vokey will delay his retirement again to stay with Wuterich’s defense.
The third case, against commanding officer Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani, is said to be tainted by “unlawful command influence” in charging Chessani according to the judge presiding over the case, suggesting that Chessani is a political scapegoat for higher-ranking officers seeking to appease anti-war politicians. His trial is expected to commence June 17.

It’s disgusting that these Marines were wrongly accused. It’s obvious that this was a corrupt prosecution that wouldn’t have happened if not for Murtha’s unfounded accusations. He’s one of the most vile, despicable exuses for a human being I’ve ever seen, ranking only a few paces ahead of Judas Iscariot of thirty pieces of silver fame.
Once Sgt. Wuterich and Lt. Col. Jeffrey Cjhessani are acquitted, I will demand a full apology from Rep. Murtha. This blog’s followers know that I called Murtha’s DC office to get his statement after the charges against Justin Sharratt were dropped in july, 2007. I just finished reading our daily, The State and did not see this story. Typical.
Eat crow John Murtha.
Hopefully this will be the beginning of the end for the slander of the USMC started by Jack Murtha.
Al Quedas US Senate rep loses another round.
Murtha is a disgrace not only to the Marines but to our Country. However he is a typical Democrat, not that I’m questioning anyone’s patriotism or anything.
War is not politically correct. War is not “equal opportunity” or “affirmative action”. War is a mess - war is Hell.
The system has worked and rendered its judgment for these Marines. Noone wants atrocities committed by our side - but neither should we tie our troops’ hands unnecessarily. I say turn ‘em loose and let ‘em fight to decisively win, without the stupid rules of engagement that do more to endanger their lives than to protect the innocent.

Why am I not surprised?
Oh. But, don’t question their support of the troops. Never. You can’t do that. They can denigrate our men and women in uniform, calling them murderers, etc. but it is just their support. Obviously, people like me are just to bitter to pick up on the deep seated support they have for them.
Congratulations Lt. Grayson. I am glad to see that justice has prevailed. I hope the same can be said for the remaining cases.
Thank God Lt. Grayson was found not guilty…now we have to do one thing: Vote out John Murtha.

I am proud to be a conservative Republican. If I were a Democrat, I would find it hard not to feel some guilt by association - when I look on the other side and see how bad the Dimocraps are.
How can ANYBODY STILL be a Democrat?
Too bad our legal system doesn’t work this well with criminals.
Here, for what it is worth, is my analysis based upon news reports and other sources.
Obstruction of juctice: They dropped the primary charge of obstruction, mid-trial. Two senior NCO’s had also ordered the photos deleted, in addition to LT Grayson, because they had no intelligence value and it was policy to delete such extraneous to their duty pictures (they dump what is known as war porn of the dead).
False swearing: Grayson correctly told the Army Colonel investigating 1) the photos did not exist and 2) they had been deleted. What riled up COL Wood and made him suspicious was the LT refused to sign a Privacy Act form but the intel guys were under orders not to sign such forms without higher HQ’s okay; al-Qaeda has a bounty on all our intel exploitation troops. The Army Colonel ran into a rabbit hole and Naval Criminal Investigators followed him down. Verdict: not guilty.
Fraudulently separating from service: 1) The intelligence battalion commander (BC) testified that he signed Grayson’s discharge papers because “there was no legal hold” on him. It takes 2 minutes for the form and 30 seconds at a computer to put a legal hold in place (I know because as a top NCO, I did that as an additional duty). 2) A Major admitted to giving the young LT bad advice, telling him that he was under no obligation to stay put, he could out-process, take his honorable discharge, and go home. Bad advice as the specification includes ‘knowingly’ but it is thin. Verdict: not guilty.
The last remaining shooter is no longer even charged with killing in cold blood. Time mag’s Taliban-loving McGirk and jerk Murtha cost Marines honor, time from their lives and careers, and their families immeasurable heartaches for freakin nothing.

Thank God for our Marines who are fighting for our security. Murtha and the rest of the liberals have no idea what it is like to be in a war where anybody and everybody is trying to kill you. This not some video game on the computer. They must defend themselves and their comrades.

And the conservative blogosphere has an OBLIGATION to keep hammering this story home and demanding apologies in huge front page splashes like Michelles, for the sake of these honorable, falsley-accused Marines and their innocent families.

The time for your apologies has come and gone, and still you remain spinelessly silent. ENOUGH!
Just who the h*ll do you think you are, gentlemen? You are not so important that you are immune from having to face the consequences for wrongful/hurtful behavior and make amends for it.
You have savaged the lives of these decent and innocent men, AND their families, with your careless words. And you have caused immeasurable grief and pain for these families.
This Marine mom suggests that its’ time for you to behave like the men that you claim to be,and publicly apologize to these fine young men. Nothing less than a full and public apology will do.

This is your golden opportunity to prove to the American people that you are not the spineless cowards that you appear to be. You can do the right thing here, or you can continue to behave like pigs and continue to do the selfish thing. What’s it gonna be?

The patriotism of anyone that can stand there with a straight face and reflexively take a position against our troops before he knows anything about situation can be called into question.

Can you imagine Obama’s face, if he were confronted at one of his townhall meetings by Lt. Grayson and other Marines that have been cleared of the allegations in Haditha and them asking him if he would like to second guess John Murtha now?

Thanks again for the follow-up Michelle, because we haven’t heard a lot from the military bashing MSM on this case now that these young men are slowly and quietly being cleared or acquitted of all charges.
Sounds to me like somebody in the Naval Criminal Investigation Service and the Staff Judge Advocates Office went way over board on this case and somebody has some explaining to do. I have seen other cases when on active duty of convening authorities in the chain-of-command pressuring the JAG (my gut feeling on this one) to push a case they ended up losing in a Courts Martial. The worse was a young Airmen they sent back to Osan AB, Republic of Korea to face rape charges that turned out to be nothing. Of course it cost the young man and his family over $12,000 in legal fees to send over a civilian lawyer to win his acquittal. Most of the time the Military Justice System works this time it has failed these men risking their lives while fighting for our safety and security completely.
Fixed it.
24 Iraqi civilians were shot to death - nothing has changed on that score.
Two other Marines, including accused ringleader Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich, still face courts-martial over the events at Haditha.
At the expense of correcting our gracious hostess, I would say its more like this for Murtha:
You can run…but you can never run far enough.
These Marines deserve our praise and gratitude, and not the venom and condemnation by people such as this lowlife Murtha. And compounding his ignorance is his previous military service…it shames me to think people such as him ever wore the uniform.
I’m glad these men are being publicly exonorated and freed. It is the least they deserve.
If you havent lately, call your local recruiters, or send an email to the websites of the military folks, and thank them for their service and sacrifice. I do so every chance i get here at work with people i deal with during the day. Thank them, and let them know they are always on the minds of good people all over our grateful nation.
My opinion, the McCain campaign should use Obamas quote about the Haditha situation, tie it into a rundown of all the Haditha Marines who were found not guilty or had their charges dismissed, and have Mr. McCain ask the American people why we have not seen even a single public apology to them from a man who is campaigning to be the CIC of our U.S. Armed Forces.
Seriously.
Sadly the left will see this as yet another example of a cover-up that goes all the way to the top; you know, how the evil Bushie personally ordered the Marines to kill innocent civilians in cold blood, and is now covering up more of his war crimes.
The fact is that the Marines are heroes, and should be compensated for having to fight on 2 fronts.

24 Iraqi civilians were killed by these marines - we know that as a fact. So we have been told that the majority are innocent of the crime of murder… but they still killed the civilians.. That’s probably why people are still just a bit upset about it on the Iraqi side.
You know, families of those killed. Just a bit pissed off.
The Marines have been found innocent of killing them on purpose. They just killed them by mistake.
Again, not difficult to understand why some people might think - Gee, killing a few Iraqi civilians in a strip of homes could be considered a mistake - but 24…? That’s quite a lot of mistakes. Especially as babies tend not to carry guns.

I don’t know what to say at this point in time. Murtha’s and the Pentagon’s witch hunt has gone on forever and it has been painful to watch. While I am so pleased that my brothers , one by one, are exonerated, I have no love left for political hacks and those who damaged my beloved Corps. I know all will survive and continue to be the great men and women they are… but this will hurt for a long time.
Can these Marines sue Murtha for slander?
On # 51, I didn’t mean to forget the rest of the Corps, I just feel particularly bad for these gentlemen and all they had to go through with the trial by media, and Congress as well.

24 Civilians are dead. It’s a terrible thing. However, one does not win wars by winning hearts and minds. One wins wars by causing so much death and destruction upon one’s enemy that the enemy quits the field (that means surrender - I KNOW you understand that word).
To send Marines in to combat but cripple them by giving them “rules of engagement” like they were Police Officers is insane. Clinton found that out in Mogadishu. Bush is finding it out in Iraq and NATO is finding it out in Afghanistan (we were winning up to the point NATO commanders took over from Americans). I am only upset with President Bush’s failure to win these wars. It could have, and can be, easily done. We have the skill, power and personal will. What we do not have is the political will. Frankly, it won’t look good on television to see death on such a massive scale. But that is what it will take. If we are unwilling to cause so much death and destruction that our enemies quit, then we shouldn’t be there.

Murtha is a bastard, his motivations are obvious. His biggest downfall as a politician is actually saying what he thinks - now you get to face the backlash.
However, Murtha is just a secondary player in this. These troops were imprisoned, in solitary, for over a year (some even more), with only charity to pay for their defenses. They were accused by a far left reporter based on testimony from Iraqi insurgents.
I have no explanation why our government has spent so much time and money prosecuting these brave soldiers. The fact is obvious that these men were set to be crucified, by our own government. Nobody stepped in to prevent this, in fact it seems like it was a crusade of some sort.
Rumsfeld should be ashamed, Gates should be ashamed, Bush should be ashamed. Just like with Ramos and Campeon, you will serve up our brave troops as sacrificial lambs to the god of political correctness.

Now, I’m no lawyer…but it seems to me that if they have already, basically, said…with the acquittals of the other six…that there has been no crime, then it stands to reason that there was no cover up as well. Hard to say that they are covering up that which never occurred, thus the acquittal of the other two is just a mere formality at this point.
However, to think that there will be an apology or anything else that even remotely resembles an admission of being wrong…horribly, horribly wrong…by ANY Liberal, regardless if they are a politician or just your run of the mill dope smoking, long haired, tree hugging, free thinking, patchouli drenched, wannabe hippie on the Berkeley campus…I wouldn’t hold your breath. You will only turn a funny blue color and get a headache. I have recent examples of their illogical approach in the form of Ramos, Compean, and Libby …
All of them are in jail over alleged “cover ups” of things that were not crimes to begin with …
When things don’t go according to the Anti-American crowds way, they only have ‘cover up’ to fall back on.
