Good news: The Lieberman–Warner eco-boondoggle is set to go down in flames today. But this is no time to rest. While the massive tax hike/green slush fund bill will most likely be shelved, it’ll come back sooner or later. And when it does, keep your eyes on “moderate” Republicans such as John Sununu who will try to appease their red-faced greenie donors and lobbyists by pulling a “for it before I was against it maneuver” this morning a la John Kerry.
As for the presumptive presidential candidates and the hanger-on, none of them are expected to show up today to vote.
It’s leadership we can believe in!

After a week of partisan squabbling and parliamentary maneuvering, the chamber will vote Friday morning on a motion to invoke cloture and limit debate on a substitute amendment by Barbara Boxer , D-Calif., chairwoman of the Environment and Public Works Committee. If, as expected, the motion does not get the required 60 votes, the bill is unlikely to come up on the floor again this Congress.
“We really didn’t expect to have such a truncated debate,” said Boxer. “We are working colleague to colleague to see how many votes we have to stop the filibuster.”
Supporters of the bill had hoped the Senate would begin to lay the political groundwork for action under the next presidential administration. But the unrelated fight over judges halted floor discussion on the legislation only two days after it began.
With both parties accusing the other of obstruction, it is unclear if either of them stands to reap a political gain. “I don’t think either side came off well, politically. Dysfunction doesn’t serve either party’s interest,” said Paul Bledsoe, a spokesman for the National Commission on Energy Policy.
A spokeswoman for Majority Leader Harry Reid , D-Nev., said if the cloture motion does fail, there is a possibility the Senate could take it up again. The bill would be placed back on the calendar after Friday’s vote. However, Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin , D-Ill., said it was “not likely” that the Senate would revisit the bill.

As all of us should, I have my representatives on speed dial. Someone usually answers and already knows why I’m calling. It will likely be the same with this.
Legislating us into higher prices at the pump, in the grocery store is keeping me from my annual donations to my favorite charitiy: the indian casinos. I’m really upset about this.
If Obama is elected be prepared for the Dimocrats to totaly destroy the middle class, If you have’nt noticed wake the he!! up they have already started with the increase in gas, food etc…

Back to the bill: It was a bad bill, alas it will be back, and probably worse. This is the most incredible Congress–all the emphasis is on stuff that hurts the US and its interests, but looks so good to the George Soros crowd–but so little focus to timely passage of what is really needed.

I’m unhappy that this bill never made it to the floor and unhappier still to see that Senator Inhofe voted against cloture. What I do not like specifically is that now there will be no debate concerning the actual validity of there being any connection between human CO2 and global warming to begin with. There isn’t any validity to it in terms of actual physical evidence and that fact really deserves seeing the light of day on the floor of Congress to kill it for good. Certainly the environitwits want us all to die in order to ‘save the planet’ but the enviro-elistists do not want the truth to come out because they would rather keep this bill ‘on the shelf’ in order to repeatedly reference it as proof that ‘something needs to be done’ but its just those damn ‘deniers’ who keep obstructing ‘progress’ – as they continue to profit from the hysteria as Al Gore certainly has. He has amassed nearly $100 million in personal gain from global warming hysteria while his nitwit minions attack people like Fred Singer for accepting a $10K gift from Exxon.
Meanwhile the EPA can continue digging in its heels to regulate carbon emissions per the absurd Supreme Court decision, (enviro-fascism), which will have nearly the same affect as this foolish bill would have had but without threatening the flow of income to Al Gore, Maurice Strong et al. They would have suffered financial loss had this bill passed because the government would then be able to ‘get in on the action’ diverting funds away from carbon investment companies like this one Generation LLP.
There is just no way it would have passed anyway so I think it would have been far better to have brought it up for open debate.

Y’all, in our interest to get a greater number of GOP, especially CONSERVATIVE GOP, look to Club For Growth and Freedom Project for what you can do, and for whom you can vote this fall. The Congress is our only hope for revitalizing Conservatism. Don’t sit this one out just because you don’t want to vote for Juan McCain.
Maybe – maybe not. I think $4 gas has changed the minds of a few constituents – especually those scraping by. We might begin to see some change here. Don’t forget $4 gas translates into $3-4 heating oil (and natural gas always follws the price of oil increases). Freeze a few people in the Northeast and mid-west and you’ll see them change their tune.
Oh, I don’t think this will happen overnight and I do think we nnedto stay vigilent.
I’m really surprised neither of the two major political party’s anointed ones could bother to show up for work today. Considering the primary season is pretty much over you would think they would get back to the job they are paid to do. Sounds like neither one of them want to go on record for their stance on this piss poor piece of legislation, which I am sure from earlier statements they both support and would sign into law should they become POTUS.
I have been calling and e-mailing my Senators daily to vote against this suicide pact dedicated to the vanity of junk science. You would think that somebody would buy a clue when over 30,000 scientist raise the BS flag on the Global Warming/Climate Change (what ever the hell they are calling it now) caused by human activity. It does sound like many people have realized this will not only put a significant increase on the average working person’s tax burden with the jobs lost due to this bill (if passed into law) would tank the economy and there would be a lot less of use working to pay these new taxes. The increased cost of gas and inflation driven by it is having a significant impact on our local area and many that were just scraping by are beginning to drop cable, satellite, internet, and even telephone services so they can still keep a roof over their head and barely manage to eat. You think these lying crapweasels in the leadership of both houses would come up with a better plan than to ask the President to do something by going to the OPEC cartel only to get the middle finger from his good buddies in the House of Saud.
Meanwhile, the do nothing congress wasted a week, when they could have been putting forth legislation that would have us drilling domestically and thus at least making an attempt to reduce gas prices.
These clowns don’t care about gas prices, we pay for most of their fuel, their drivers and if its not the taxpayer directly, then in the case of Feinstein and Boxer its some ‘cushy’ multimillion (or billion) $$ deal they funneled to their husbands via military contracts or something else.
This same congress that is pushing their “Green” agenda with asinine Global Warming bills; telling us what type of light bulbs we can use; a “food for fuel” push of ethanol is the same one that has created the high cost of energy by blocking new refineries; drilling off our coasts/ANWR and other so-called “enviro-friendly” rules. Then they have the audacity to complain about the rising cost of fuel. What chutzpah.
We need a clean sweep and remove all those “not serving” in congress – which is probably all of them.
Virginia now has two Democratic Senators – Jim Webb and John Warner (soon to be replaced by another Warner (D)). Since the one sponsored the bill, you can guess how far a call will go with him – especially now that he’s a lame duck and has nothing to lose by exposing his true politics.

Selling and trading emission allowances is a scam! That means only those who can afford to do so will be able to – and that this only applies to the US. China, India, Russia don’t have the same ‘Gulliver Ropes’ tying them down.
I read all of the time how people and companies can buy ‘carbon credits’. Where does the money go? How are the reults tracked. How do we know it’s doing any good? We don’t and there are is nothing in this bill that addresses this.

I will remind you that several years ago a bill to force us to use ethanol in gasoline was so perfect that it would even not affect the price of a bag of chips. Forward to earlier this year wher we have found a stagger rise in the cost of basic foodstuffs (corn, wheat, rice, soy) as farmers have stopped growing them for food and began planting corn for fuel. That’s not over yet – wait until the costs are translated in beef, pork, chicken and milk products. And that is the hard reality of that wonderful bill. It is now in the land of unintended consequenes.
The Lieberman-Warner bill is just as flawed – yet we all want to feel good about global warming. Phooey. It is a SCAM – and when the unintended consequences of it are realized in the years to come – our nation will suffer!
Again – I implore you to vote against this bill.

I’m not referring to your views on global warming; I am referring to your views on Republicans who are at odds with the party platform. It seems as if you defer to party instead of principle. You seem to believe one example of votes on one example of legislation nullifies any and all criticism of votes on other pieces of legislation, or on stated positions of an issue that is made in public discourse.
Seems like maybe a partial solution to solving America’s energy problems, mainly lack of new refineries and nuclear energy plants might just lie with the American Indian nations. I’d rather be paying for clean energy produced by Indians or on Indian lands than the people of century old civilizations, and calling them civil-izations is being generous with the word.

Open floor debate will allow their opposing views to be presented and then become part of the Congressional record. When the views from the likes of Richard Lindzen, Freeman Dyson and Frederick Seitz, (who passed away recently), hard core PHD physicists, are entered into the record the libs will have no room to claim that there is any so called ‘consensus’ on this issue. They and 9000 other PHD’s, (40 of them are members of the National Academy of Science – snort that fact realclimate!), say that it is NOT a basket of ‘settled scientific fact’ that any government ought to be putting ANY of its eggs into let alone all of them. They far outnumber the AGW scientist crowd, easily have more impressive academic backgrounds than these computer modelers at the IPCC and they have solid scientific proof against the notion of AGW where the modelers have ZERO physical proof.
If Congress is intent on ruining our country on the basis of dishonest junk science then they MUST be forced to record the opposing view by the honest scientists. How else can that happen if not on the floor of Congress?

And while John McCain isn’t the RINO-est of the RINOs, the only reason to vote for him is that he is a 1960s Scoop Jackson style Democrat, and Obama is probably a Marxist, as DeLay says, even if it is considered impolite or brings charges of being hysterical to say it.
And Warner needs to step down before he embarrasses himself further.
And the two reasons why a Scoop jackson Democrat in all but name, and a grievance monger wealth redistribution Marxist are different:
1) Judges. McCain wouldn’t give us more Scalias and Roberts and Thomas’ if he wanted to. He will almost certainly have a Demonrat Senate, and will have to appoint ‘moderates’. Of course, he’d nominate ‘moderates’ even if he could get his choices confirmed. But an O’Connor or Anthony Kennedy, right about half the time, is better than more Ginsbergs and Breyers and Souters, who always vote against America and for internationalism and Marxism.
2) McCain is a lot less likely to curl up into the fetal position and surrender in the Global War on Terror.
I know the argument of letitng the real Democrat get elected, so when the pooch gets screwed, Republicans will get elected, but I think Obama will screw the pooch so hard it’ll die.

About voting for a RINO, McCain. Yes, he is por-amnesty, and a global warming hysteric.
But the Dems are nominating a flat out communist.
McCain is probably almost an ideological twin of Joe Lieberman, another global warming hysteric, but unlike most Donks, one that doesn’t hate his country.

I like your assertion the ‘the will of the people is to do something about global warming’ Do you have the final vote tally on that one? The only will of the people you’ve seen is what you’ve been reading or seeing in the news media. They wouldn’t know how to solve finding their butt in a closet with a flashlight and a compass – yet you beleive every misguided thing they say about global warming. I got news for you – despite what Al Gore thinks, the debate ain’t over.
Problem is only one side of the arguement is being published or championed in the media. If you did nothing but read the newspaper you’d think that global warming is a fact and that only by taxing the big bad US that it can be solved. You’d think that higher taxes are the cure for all ills. You’d think that it’s OK for foreigners to break our laws and not face deportion. You’d think that self-determination and self reliance were abohorrent and that only the government has all of the answers and cures for society. Obviously – a lot of the balance has been filtered out. What passes for news is more editorial and spin than fact.
I do agree that this administration has done nothing to stop the growth of government. You’d think that FDR or LBJ were at the helm. But it did cut taxes – significantly – and despite what has been said about the deficit – we are now pulling in more tax dollars per quarter to our treasury thatn in any other time in history – despite the lower taxes (see the Office of Management and Budget if you don’t beleive me.
Come November we’re looking at Democrat candidates who would love nothing better than to tax us to the hilt to support their noble govermental giveaways (Universal Health Insurance, Universal Disaster Insurance, Universal education Assistance, Universal Homeowner Mortgae Assistance). Nobody ever askes where the money is going to come from – and nobody ever really looks at other governmaet programs and compares their orginal ‘estimated costs’ with their true costs. The plans also smack of class warfare. If the Democrats really wanted to be fair, they’d look at a flat tax (and if that wouldn’t be good enough – exempt the first $60,000 of income from any source and tax the rest at aflat rate and do away with the political tax cronyism that is inherent to our current tax system.
A little off topic but I think you get what I’m driving at.

Sometimes, you have to choose the best of the worst.
